I have bought every copy of COD since COD 4 - after playing MW2, i stopped playing cod all togther. When black ops came out, i thought eh, ill give it was 2nd try. I played the game maybe for 2 weeks. Never even thought of looking up this game. tested it out at my buddies place and saw that game has not changed since MW2. Same old run and gun.

This game is just so awful I'm cringing at the fact I actually bought this. Its actually embarrassing admitting to you all I bought this game. I used to be a huge fan of MW2 when it came out, never played BF. I pre ordered BF3 before MW2.5 and it is a brilliant game, step above the rest. Its not perfect, it has its flaws but It is great.

Then I played this...abomination, thats all you can

Because this game is now linked to my steam account with a few others I cannot sell it again so the games dvd's have now become the most expensive coaster for my beer I have ever bought. At least I'm getting some use out of my money :)

I think this below video is quite a hoot:

In there is a hilarious piece of commentary, the guy says "Yes it crashed on me once and it then said MW2 has stopped working..." Well to end off I am sincerely hoping that other fellow pc gamers read these reviews and stay away from the game.

Pretty much the game thing as MW2, except for a few new guns and maps. Hell, even the error screens say 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2'.

Graphics are nothing new. The engine is old and doesn't seem to run well on PC. BF3 looks way better and still runs smoother.

    Disappointed.

Graphics are a step back from Black Ops as is the soundtrack. The Black Ops soundtrack and graphics engine were amazing and a leap forward from Modern Warfare 2. I feel like this title lost all that progress and went back to the Modern Warfare 1 engine. Can not get this game to look decent in 1920x1200 even with "native" rendering setting. As far as game type, game play is uninspired and, again, takes the franchise back before Black Ops. Feels recycled and overdone.

Classic example of group think on the dev side-- devs were apparently too pleased with what they had going and did not bother to make a meaningful update. Effectively turned this franchise into a yearly Madden.

Tie this into a neat little bundle with an aging graphics engine and another Unreal Tournament style multi-player (yep, no skill, tatics or team work required - can't you just wait for the YouTube glut of auto sniper mega fast hacks..... uh, I mean kills to appear) and what you have is a regurgitated pile of tat.

Someone wanted to squeeze the last few bucks out of a tired engine and game model. Please no more, in an age where the arguments against piracy are shouted from every moral pulpit perhaps the evangelists should look at what they are providing for sale - quality always provides a decent argument for revenue.

So its back to BF3, oh and for controversies sake, I still think the last MOH game had the best and most fulfilling multi-player of recent times, its just a shame it did not do SP Whack-a-Mole well enough to please the paid critics.

When I saw the first videos I didn't expect much. Now that I have played it, I can say it: this game is just a DLC of MW2. The graphic engine is just the same, Black Ops graphics were better IMO and they couldn't improve even that. Multiplayer is simply MW 2 but with new maps and new killstreaks, nothing much.

In conclusion, Infinite Ward wants us to pay for a game which is just a "DLC" of an older one at full price. I didn't bite, hope you won't.

I find the menus very nice and the layout is pretty nice as always. It's easy to get an overview of what you need to do to unlock your next weapons, attachments etc and the new "Lobby Leaderboard" feature gave this part a huge plus. I would still like to see some more Callsigns and Emblems to the game from the Spec Ops part,

I would still like to see some more Callsigns and Emblems to the game from the Spec Ops part, but well... Overachiever is pretty nice.

The multiplayer gameplay would be great if they hadn't done the exact same thing in their two previous Modern Warfare games. The graphics seems to be somewhere between MW1 and MW2 and the weapons are pretty much the same (except for a huge damage decrease on UMP). This was not what I expected at all and after playing it for some hours I had feeling that I was playing Modern Warfare 2 and not an entirely new game. My personal feelings towards this is that 90% of the game is old content taken from previous games to make a cheap solution to something with great potential.

The game also has the features Survival Mode and Spec Ops. Every CoD fan knows what this is (I presume), and the Survival Mode is extremely fun to play with your friends. It's split up in difficulty maps, and this works great. The Spec Ops are as they were on MW2 except that they have removed the last few missions with the juggernauts, which makes the Spec Ops overall easier than before. Even though I missed that insane challenge, I had a blast playing through all the missions.

I rate the game a 4 in total (Multiplayer 2, Single Player 6) and if you consider buying this game, you should only buy it because of Spec Ops, Campaign and Survival Mode - Not because of the multiplayer part.

People also compare the differences between MW2 and MW2 on one side and BF2 and BF3 on the other. Of course there are going to be big differences between BF2 and BF3. There has been quite some time between them. The difference between both Modern Warfare games is 2 years. Single Player:
The campaign was interesting and I liked it. I liked the entire storyline of the whole Modern Warfare series. People seem to forget that four of the games in the series were about the same thing: WW II. Modern Warfare started a whole new story and it seems like it reaches it's end after this part. The whole story is rounded up now (not gonna give any spoilers ^^). I don't know about 4 hours to finish the game, maybe on the lowest difficulty. On Veteran it was quite a challenge and frustrating at times.

Another aspect I really liked about the campaign was the setting. I have been to London and Paris myself and could really recognise the environment and that added something to the game in my eyes.

Also, the story may not be that original, but YET another game about World War 2 is not what I'm waiting for. Modern Warfare brought something new to the table and I like it. Multiplayer:
I see a lot of players saying it's a lot of the same as MW2, blah blah. Please tell me what's the difference between FIFA 10, FIFA 11 and FIFA 12? A lot of the same, teams get updated, etc. It's the same for the other yearly releases. Still MW3 brings back a lot of the original aspects of the game and has some new features.

The updated killstreaks are very neatly done. It's not anymore like Black Ops where 80% of your kills came from killstreak rewards. There is more gun on gun gameplay. The maps are a bit different though. There is a lot of cover and not a lot of open ground. They also separated Ghost/Cold Blood into two separate perks. One hides you from air support and one hides you only from UAV. That was a very good step as well.

The added gametype Kill Confirmed is also very fun to play. It kind of forces you to go out in the field and play like the developers intended. If you just sit in a corner or in a tower and wait till people walk by, your kills will just get denied, your team will get no point and will fall behind eventually and rightfully so.

The guns are balanced really well too. There are no really underpowered weapons, except for the shotguns. They are just complete garbage. All the other weapons are competitive and useful. The way the weapon upgrades are done is good as well. The â

The whole RPG'esque upgrade system is also quite satisfying, for an old Diablo gamer here :)
The new game mode 'Kill confirmed' has a great dynamic feel to it. People naturally group together to make sure the other team won't get the score when their mate dies.

The story mode doesn't do much for me. It's a little boring.

Modern Warfare 3, of course is the next iteration of a yearly franchise.

Naturally, the engine is bit out of date, but it still produces graphics that are at least better than Half Life 1. The campaign was full of (as most reviewers say) Michael Bay action and destruction moments. Not that there's any wrong with that, though I find the AI still rather terrible, though if you compare it to the AI from Call of Duty 2, it's an improvement. It was an exciting campaign, a good continuation of the previous two games that wrapped up all the loose ends, and most of the questions.
    Now onto the multiplayer:
Almost all of it is like the previous, more guns, more maps, reworked perks, killstreaks (which are now pointstreaks, which I'll admit, was a great idea.) Everything is as fast paced as ever, and delivers the same action that you'd expect from Call of Duty. That's good and bad, both that Call of Duty didn't innovate too much in this release, but that it didn't try to fix what wasn't broken. I think a bit of experimentation would be cool, because after a few years of the same concepts with different guns, maps, and perks, it can get old. My attention span with Call of Duty games has been declining lately, though MW3 held it longer than Black Ops did for sure.

    So, in a gist:
-Graphics: Rather outdated, but still better than Half Life 1
    -Campaign: Actiony, destruction-packed
    -AI: Bad
-Multiplayer: Same old same old. Still no dedicated servers... wtf? (I miss CoD 2 in that regard)

The Bad: Then they took the bad things out of Black OPS and magnified them x5. Maps are terrible, besides 1 or 2, everyone camps, and everyone uses akimbo. There are already hackers and quickscoping is easier that ever before. The spawning system is the same as it was in Black OPS, you are running around the map and people are spawning right behind you.

The Ugly: Although they introduced Kill Confirmed (aquire dogtags), camping in this game is worse than MW2 or Black OPS COMBINED! Due to the amount of added obstacles and buildings into the game, it begs for campers. Players of MW3 are only concerned about their K/D. I was amazed at the amount of players that don't even go after the dogtags of the players they kill. They wait for one of their teammates to get it for them.

Overall: Fluidity is better. Funfactor is not.

Yet, despite most of the additions related to Modern Warfare 2I have awaited Modern Warfare 3's release and being able to play it with a moderation of expectations. Interestingly these expectations have been met as they were: moderate. Modern Warfare 3 is hardly more than the continuation of the Campaign as well as a rehash of the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer with some new fresh ideas. Yet, despite most of the additions related to Modern Warfare 2 add new nuances to gameplay the whole package seems rather dated compared to it's competitors. The old reworked IW5 hardly turns any heads by now, yet still delivers adequate visuals as one plays through the campaign. The campaign itself is likely rather short as it is common for FPS games right now, but isn't short on action. If one wills it, the immersion in the action can be rather satisfying. Right now it is plagued by a few bugs which can be surpassed if one knows how to do so, but for the unschooled player that is unaware of the existence of Wikias the game ends at Hamburg, killed by a reliable-command-buffer-overflow and a return to the main menu. The multiplayer can best be described with S.S.D.D with extras. As mentioned earlier some of the elements newly introduced can enhance the gaming experience and some rather helpful changes were made compared to it's predecessor. Unfortunately it also suffers from a few new problems. The maps feel cramped and small compared to the more open and wide maps of Modern Warfare 2. The new strike packages were done almost perfectly and open up many new ways to introduce killstreaks to the player's playstyle. For anyone who wanted the dedicated servers and is disgruntled about them being unranked, I cannot comment on this, sadly. To me this is a viable design choice. These servers will likely be better populated as soon as more players reach the prestiges at which they want to stop prestiging any further. Naturally there still is the problem of hackers and hacked lobbies in the P2P variant of the game and it BAFFLES me how the developers could miss such a thing as game client checksums to prevent game file alteration. All in all, the game is not as bad as one would perceive, especially from the notoriously vitriolic community. However, at times it feels uninnovative and static considering the lack of actual steps forward in development compared to the entire spin-off of the franchise. With this lack of creative movement it strikes me as unbelievable, that not only the game was released with a price tag of 60â Expand

It's good Activision did make their game compareble to Modern Warfare 2, which was a pretty fun game, but it's not acceptable they make such little changes to their follow up. I can keep ranting, but I think the UserScore says enough.
There ARE a few GOOD changes though. The killstreaks are nerfed compareble to Black Ops, and the Noobtube has been nerfed so badly it almost became useless. I will conclcude that the game is a piece of garbage compared to AAA+ games such as Skyrim and BF3. Leave it in the stores untill it's on sale for only â

Just like black ops, this is a game you fire up but don't enjoy. MW2 built on COD4 and even without dedicated servers, it was still ridiculously fun and challenging. Killstreaks don't make any sense in MW3 - you can die 10 times with minimal kills and still call in stealth bombers. If you're a sniper, forget it. The only reason I'm not still playing MW2 is because Black Ops and MW3 have killed it. If IW could at least re-release the old maps (without ridiculous DLC prices) I might start to enjoy the game.

The bottom line is, MW3 is everything MW2 was, but every good aspect has been replaced with something worse. The loss of stopping power is frightfully irritating - a reminder of how tedious it is to kill others in Black Ops. If you like COD4 and MW2, you won't like this game. If you have never played Call of Duty, now is certainly not the time to start.

The campaign itself is somewhat entertaining, but too short. Spec Ops missions are enjoyable and the survival mode is a decent time killer.

Multiplayer? The game still feels like a console port. The lack of lean removes a feature that was much needed, the game speed was reduced as well as the jump just to make sure the casual gamer gets a chance against the hardcore gamers and a direct reply to the complain of casual players claiming "bunny hopping" was overpowered. P2P seems actually worse than in MW2 because they introduced some sort of anti-lag feature to take away the advantage of the host by giving them the same ping as the next lowest ping on the server. Also, you can be in North America, Europe, South America, Asia, Australia... you'll get people that aren't near you in your game and the hosting will not be computer spec dependant, but instead it will be based on the average pings.

Field of View being locked along with max FPS and custom binds. Gone are the days of tweaking your config to match your PC and get the best FPS possible if you cared for that. You're stuck with basic settings with maxed FPS that isn't even syncable with your 120hz monitor if you have one. You also cannot bind a key to say something such as "Sorry for the team kill." or "Planting B! Cover!". Attempting to change any of those settings deemed "unfair" by IW will guarantee a reset of your config. Making it read only won't help either as the game will load a "factory" default config of those settings you tried to change.

When it comes to actual gameplay, the game is OK at best. Being a Search and Destroy player, you'll notice that maps are so small that there isn't any reason to play that gametype minus for a few maps that could actually work out with the gametype. Kill Confirmed is nice and "new" but it stops there. A new gametype isn't gonna make the game worth 60 bucks.

Too long, didn't read? Here's the general thoughts:

No Dedicated servers for Ranked gaming.
Locked config. (FoV, FPS, Binds, Lagometer, FPS Counter, etc.)
No sound options which makes it hard to be able to adjust the volume correctly.
Tiny Maps, some slightly larger that can allow for Search and Destroy play.
Fun Campaign and Spec Ops. Decent new gametype for Multiplayer.
    Modern Warfare 2.1
Gameplay modified to give a chance to casual gamers.
P2P ranked games worse than MW2.

The PC community was promised that dedicated servers were going to be brought back (which they were). The PC community was promised that they game would be competitive (lol) and that the new methods being implemented would help deter hackers.

I wish to convey the message that we may not have been lied to directly by any of the above mentioned companies, but we were not given full truths. Developers wished to promote Call of Duty Elite which in their opinion was something that was needed for gaming. However, PC community did not get it and recent reports claim may not ever get it (not that we asked, or were excited or even cared about the service). This service is the reason developers claim that the PC community is too unstable to create a worth while game. With inherent hacking and glitching they could not offer a valid means to roll out the service. This being as it is, developers wanted to make this their big thing for the launch and were very insistent on making this happen, even at the cost of the players. To help them make sure the game would be able to be launched on their terms (not the players) they went against what they knew to be the overwhelming majority in the PC community. They made sure dedicated servers were able to be manipulated so that hosts could unlock or lock whatever they wanted on the games. They also made it so that players could not rank up while playing on dedicated servers (everything is already unlocked). Which naturally leaves the Peer to Peer match making the only way to get the Call of Duty experience of leveling. These could be fixed if developers find away to reverse the negatives (which are major and mainly why scores are down) and do as company slogans have been across the markets "the customer is always right". While they may have beaten sell numbers from previous games I would be hard pressed to think that it will be that way (at least with PC) next time.

To validate the +2 on my score (-8 being mentioned above) the game meets co-op expectations, although barely. While the game is fun and new many game types, the game has many glitches and problems that should have been found in beta testing (although it was not offered as an OPEN beta on PC). I have found that the game is merely something to put on the shelf (or the imaginary one of steams uninstalled games) and say "Oh yea I remember that, meh lets play something else.."

There is something truly special about that game. It provided a compelling story, excellent multi-faceted gameplay, amazing multiplayer, and the overall presentation felt like a modern action movie. MW2 came with its controversy. It's campaign was a continuation of the COD:MW. It tied up the story quite nicely. It's multiplayer left something to be desired. Black Ops had a very intriguing campaign which was fun to experience. It's multiplayer crawled further into the hole that MW2 dug. Modern Warfare 3 is a continuation of the MW 2 campaign. It shares elements of the first and second MW games. It's graphics are starting to show rust around the edges of an aging engine. It's gameplay is far more more more. By that I mean, someone must have looked at COD:MW and said, like that only more. More enemies, more explosions, more chaos. That doesn't translate into a compelling experience. It's the Michael Bay formula. While I'm usually a fan of the continuation of a compelling story, this game just didn't deliver. I honestly would rather have watched it than played it. That's the type of experience it was. It didn't make me feel anything. in COD:MW you felt something when Cpt. Price led you through enemy territory to a sniper hide. You felt something when the nuclear bomb went off. You felt something when controlling the Spectre gunship. Even in MW2 you felt something when you chose to become a terrorist. This game elicits no emotion. The closest they came is at the end of the game. This final scene only solidified my desire for this to have been a watching experience instead of a participation. It was loud and chaotic and failed to connect with me. Given the controversy with the studio who made the first two modern warfare games, I feel it may be unfair to judge Sledgehammer games for this. Their next title may well end up in the echelon of COD:MW and COD1. Unfortunately, this pusillanimous title may have been the mandate of the publisher. The multiplayer experience in this game is geared towards those who prefer the style of Black Ops moreso than COD:MW. It is rife with gadgets and streaks and kludgy perks. It is fast paced and rewards twitchy hands over strategy and stealth. It does not have dedicated ranked servers. With the addition of MW:Elite, I feel the franchise has entered into a new territory which can only serve to hurt the community and will punish the loyalist who can't break free.

In the end, I gave it a three of ten because this title lacks all courage. It stuck to a formula which it knew would sell to loyalists. This is, of course, a review of the PC version. Once you move to a console version, the multiplayer issues disolve and you're still stuck with the loud booming and explosive chaotic experience which all the kids love. Problem is, this is a mature title.

Campaign story was great, but it was kinda too short... Other than that, nearly everything is from mw2, some weapons have no change in recoil, and most of sounds are from mw2 too.. It feels like mw2 without overpowered grenade launchers. PC version is bad. Some of features was even taken off, like adjustable FOV... Im disappointed, its not worth 60â

    Summa summarum
    >mfw 2011 no new graphics
    >mfw gun sounds are still same
    >mfw all this hype for mw2.1
    >mfw map structure is same
    >mfw they still keep those "perks" and "camp-eh... I mean cough kill streaks"

At least they did improved co-op a little but spec-ops missions are not very good and survival is ridiculous. Missions are very short and quite easy, only thing what make's em look "hard" is that you will die easier.

If this was the first game in the franchise, and it wasn't just a juggernaut to make Activision money then this game would get a 7 from me, because in gameplay and everything, its a decent game. Fun, but not to fun or innovative. But since they got rid of some of the new things black ops added and just pretty much did the same thing as MW2, just some new perks and killstreaks, I gave it a lower score. Don't be fooled, if you played MW2, you played this game, same lone wolf style multiplayer (unless you make your own team with friends or a clan), same formula on the campaign except now its getting predictable and boring, and really rushed. Nothing changed, they hyped it up and people bought it. And now people can see that it is stupid, which is why people came here like me to put a bad review on it. Me and the other 3,437 people. I like more of a thinking mans fps, I like to have a lot of communication when I play online and strategies. Multiplayer on this came is all about how you yourself can be better, and not what you can do to help the team and win, its all about YOUR Kill death ratio, and things like that. So I would much rather play Battlefield 3 which has a lot more strategy to it. More thinking. But don't get me wrong, I have a place for these games, I get bored and just want to run around a knife some people without thinking too. Which this game does well, but thats about it. If thats all you want then go buy this game. But for me, and some others, we want more, not the same game every year, with a new case for 60$. Expand

Multiplayer is the same repetitive junk seen in all CoD games ever since the first modern warfare came out. This is a perfect example of a game gone wrong and I hope that all the other FPS developers see this. This is what made me switch over to the Battlefield franchise. The single player is the usual fast-paced, action packed campaign that you'd expect from call of duty. It is much better than the battlefield 3 single player (I love both games). While it is a great tutorial for the multiplayer, playing it through on veteran is a rewarding challenge in its own right. The special ops mode is similar to that of modern warfare 2, with the exception of the newly added survival mode, in which waves of enemies come at you from land, air, and canine. Special ops can be played online with a friend or with some random online player. Multiplayer is very addictive and fast-paced. It is more run and gun than Battlefield 3, with less strategy and team play, but more "action." You can level up you weapons as well as your soldier of course, which is definitely needed to compete. The biggest disappointment I see with the game is the quantity of cheaters/hackers in the multiplayer. In Battlefield 3, this is not a problem. In MW3, a game is ruined the moment a player with an aim-bot or with the ability to see/shoot through walls enters the game. You can be having a blast playing and then the cheaters/hackers ruin it for everybody. This Really Needs to be addressed in a game update or something. Again, I love both MW3 and BF3. Both are great in their own right. Hope this helps. Expand
