This is the first COD I've bought since COD 2 in 2005. I've played Battlefield for the past few years, from Battlefield Bad Company 2 to Battlefield 4, which I got sick of, because DICE are a bunch of incompetent morons that can't write the networking part of a game properly to save their lives.

Earlier this year, I uninstalled BF 4 because it is a completely frustrating piece of **** and installed Planetside 2, which I've been playing since.

Yesterday, I bought COD:AW, played the single player campaign and loved it.

Today, I attempted to play multiplayer, IT WAS **** HORRIBLE, AND STILL IS, the **** lag is WORSE than Battlefield 4 because of the lack of **** dedicated servers.

Sad state of affairs when COD 2 in **** 2005 had better netcode and dedicated servers, and when a huge game like Planetside 2 feels better and more responsive to play with 200 other players around you.

In AW, I constantly get killed in one **** hit from EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING, by laggy ****

If they do not add dedicated servers like EVERY **** PC multiplayer game should have, this is the last **** COD game I am buying AND I will ask for a refund. This is bull****, 110 dollars for a broken piece of **** that makes me want to punch a hole through my **** monitor EVERY TIME I get killed in a complete bull**** way.

And it's not like I am some scrub, either, when I played a test match to get used to the gameplay in that simulation thing they have, my score was 40-3 at the end of the match. I've been playing shooters since 1995 and usually my KDR in multiplayer games never goes under 2.5.

In this **** my first match was KDR 9, and every single **** one afterwards was under 0.6 and I've finished either last on the scoreboard or third to last. Absolute unplayable CRAP at this point, people will leave in DROVES if they keep this **** as broken as it is. I am still **** struggling to get my KDR to 1, because every **** thing kills me in one hit and 5 meters behind cover, and it takes my entire mag to kill anyone. Melee is also broken as complete **** last death I had today before I just **** rage quit, I went up to a guy, fired half a mag into his face and then meleed him, yet when the **** killcam showed, it just looked like I was running up to him, staring like a moron while he emptied his mag in my face.

    Absolutely **** shameful.

I am surprised this **** is not illegal, in ANY OTHER **** industry, if you buy something and it's broken as **** or does not work as advertised, you have the right to get your god damn money back, but in gaming you get ****ED out of your money and can absolutely **** NOTHING to do about it. Bull**** theft, that's what it is.

The game would be awesome if it had **** dedicated servers, so I could choose to play on servers with other people that have the same ping as I do, so we have a level playing field, and I'd be able to vote kick people with high ping or the server would autokick. With this **** you get ****ed by lag switching **** or some **** from China with ping of **** 600. BULL****.

Like Ghosts this is not optimised for the PC at all. I have i7 3930K @4.3ghz in a watercooling loop along with two GTX780s all running at 35°C and 32gb RAM - and still this game won't play smoothly at 1080p! I don't expect much from CoD anymore but this is utterly worthless. If you enjoy PC gaming for the enhanced visual quality it offers - Don't buy this game.

After that done you realize that you bought a laggy, peer-to-peer multiplayer network game with a seriously bad collision query responses. Is it 2060$ up to 3060$ worth it? Well, this game has its amazing graphical moments, it has its new shield armory, jump around moments, a tiny skill system plus they lent from Batman the grappling hook, but unfortunately, no its not worth 60$ plus the massive amount of hardware invest, because the only reason for buying this game was the dedicated server feature and they messed it up by just using a peer-to-peer client network - what a big big mistake. Very poor game. Campaign has no FOV slider making me feel sick playing it. If the game crashes, you quit or even change a graphical setting, the intro video plays again (un-skippable) and the game has to reload, extremely annoying.
The multiplayer has an FOV slider that goes up to 90, good enough for me. Well, it would be if the multiplayer actually worked! I haven't been online since November since the servers have never worked! Activision has been less than helpful until finally I spoke to someone who went through all the troubleshooting steps with me with no avail, so he said he would create a case report. I hope that something gets done about this.
I should have listen to the "mixed" reviews on Steam and not bothered with this game.

Been playing COD since the first installment (yes, I’m that old). Skipped Ghosts, but bought all the others, even though I started to like the franchise less and less. Tried Advanced Warfare for a good three weeks and have just uninstalled it. Here are my two cents:

    - Poor optimization for pc: slightly larger maps (roughly half of all the maps) lag intolerably for minutes on end. And yes, my system (decent i5, 32 Gb of Ram, SSD, Radeon R9 290) should be able to handle the game easily. Hell, all the other games (including the new Wolfenstein) do. When the lag settles (about five minutes in) the game is almost over. The lag never goes away completely, it just becomes less of an issue. At the start, it’s like wading through mud. In an iron suit. Turn shaders on (an in-game video setting) and you’re lag free. But in that case most maps won’t load. At all. Pick your favorite option. Rinse and repeat.

    - Poor optimization for pc: the lag compensation is laughable. The faster your connection, the more you will die. According to the killcam, you might even die standing up when you’re actually prone. Or die while in cover, when killcam shows you in the open. Et cetera.

    - Bad anti-cheat (if any). There are cheaters. Period.

    - Small maps: the map may look big at first, but they aren’t really. You move so fast this time around (thanks to the exo suit), even the larger maps take seconds to cross. That is, if you can overcome the ever present lag.

    - Unbalanced guns: the laser guns require no aim. Whatsoever. Say ‘bye’ to skill.

    - Poor patching choices. Instead of fixing (or even addressing) the lag issues, the developers decided to tweak some guns. I can live with that, since the balance was not all that great. So what they did, was make lasers stronger. That’s right, the already overpowered, no aim needed gun was made even stronger than it was in the first place. Now all pre-teens really have to use them.

    - Controllers are allowed on the pc. They have auto aim. Which sort of defeats the purpose of skill based shooters.

    - Because controllers are allowed, pitch and aim (turn-speed) are adjustable, not in game, but in the configuration. On many maps you will see people constantly doing 1260’s in the air, while they quickscope anything bigger than a flea with amazing ease. I wonder if that was supposed to happen.

    - You will get shot in the back. A lot. Sure; flanking has always been a valid tactic, but this time around, because of the extremely fast movement, the ability to do all kind of jumps (exo suit) and the poor map design (did I mention they are small?) most one on one gunfights end by being shot in the back. Not by the player you were fighting, but by someone else entirely. This accounts for about 60-75% of all the kills.

    - And, lastly, there are no dedicated servers.

That’s about it. Try for yourself. Maybe you will like it. I did not.

Even with multiplayer being the primary focus of this game, like every other recent Call of Duty title, (because we all know no ***** are given about CoD campaign) the multiplayer game play is highly disappointing. People will never learn that the CoD series has become a re-release of the previous games with mediocre additions and a futuristic twist that gets more exaggerated each time. In some ways, I felt that Ghosts was the correct approach for the Call of Duty campaign. There were some really cool parts, some neat guns, and some down right awesome levels like the space mission.

When I noticed that the game was going to focus around special abilities being used in combat, I again felt like the Call of Duty franchise was taking another large leap forward. However, I was so, so so so so wrong.

You have all these super OP abilities, and half the time in the campaign you can't even use them. I feel so chained by the will of the programmer in the game that it honestly stopped the intense action packed fun. There were again, like Ghosts, some supremely bada** moments in the game, but they only lasted for a very short period of time. It seemed that each time I was having fun, Sledgehammer would rip that fun right from my hands.

As far as graphics concerned, they were pretty allright. However, the graphics on characters and faces are absolutely astounding. This, in and of itself, is probably the only thing I like about the game.

However, especially the way that this game progressed through the "story" mode ( the writing was absolutely tired and predictable) , all in all it felt like I was watching a very droll action film with bad direction. It was a good looking film, but it still just f***ing sucked.

I think it's appropriate to compare it to Titanfall now, since that's the direction they are moving in, and I'd say that Titanfall is definitely more fun. CoD:AW does not have as good and memorable map design as Titanfall, movement is much slower, graphics are worse and of course there are no Titans. Also the "parkour" in CoD is quite a bit clunkier than Titanfall's, you will smash into walls constantly while boosting and overall it doesn't feel as cool and organic as Titanfall's. Yes, it has a ton of weapons, but most of them are bad and nobody ever uses them. In conclusion, CoD:AW is a step in the right direction and an improvement in some areas, but I don't expect it will hold my interest any longer than Titanfall since it's overall weaker, and they're essentially charging 100$ for this. It's definitely not worth that amount of money in my opinion. Expand

Honestly, this is coming from a Battlefield 4 player. Advanced Warfare looked absolutely breathtaking with all the fancy DirectX 11 features like Bokeh DOF, Spacial Bloom, Tessellation, NVIDIA exclusive HBAO+ AO, TXAA Anti-Aliasing and Volumetric Rays.
Supersampling is also an option which I've enjoyed using without much impact on performance.
Overall, despite the awful plot and tedious linear gameplay on top of its apathetic expositions. Almost forgot to mention the ancient peer to peer multiplayer hosting. AW is a must buy for most seasoned veterans of both franchises.

The guns are very cool as well and do feel like they are from the future. But where the game's problems lie are in its questionable frame-rate drops and its amount of glitches. One of them is the off lip-syncing. I don't know if anyone has this issue, but the lips seem to be a split second behind their voices. Not to mention some murky textures and sometimes, the unresponsive controls. Overall, the controls are good, but sometimes when i double-jump, my character doesn't respond to it. I see a great potential for this game as long as they have dedicated servers for the multiplayer. 7/10 (good) Expand

While this call of duty isn't the worst of the franchise, it dosen't do much different once again, even with the exo suits. In the end they just end up as a way to escape more than anything. Again the game runs on a 10 year game engine and dosen't have any dedicated servers, along with cheap and worthless game mechanics.

What an absolute joke of a game! Changing anything in the menus closes and reopens the program making you wait at least a full minute before you can re-enter the game. The graphics are woeful compared to what they were showing in the pre-release gameplay trailers. Never again will I buy from this sh*thouse developer!

Otherwise, there are way better offerings; it's the golden age of PC gaming and we don't have to support this garbage.

So....I think, there isn't much changed since the original CoD. Sure the graphics look better, but damn, this game is old! The way it plays is just so same like 10 years ago! They seem to be unable to innovate? Why is this still small claustrophobic maps, while the single player is a tunnel shooter? Predetermined paths and scripted events, dumb AI. I thought we were over this a long time ago!
Graphics is one thing, but for c-st sake..innovate something already! I can't even imagine, that all the incarnations of this game over the years (I can't even count the CoD titles I skipped over the years) and - apparently- it's still the same? - CHEATERS !!!!! Those **** 12-year olds who fukd your mom last night are back with a vengeance. Not as bad as MW 3 but enough to make me sick of playing it.
    - Item progression is kinda bad, some challenges required for certain attachments and camoes are very grindy, and there is no reason for it

no difference in amount of bullets it takes to die in HC and Core modes

There is little to no recoil in the guns.

Better to spend 5 bucks on black light for ps4 or free on PC. (plus since black-light is free, no PS plus required.) The cost for COD AW: $60(actual game) $50-$60(PS plus) and more money for DLC.
Cost for Black light: $0(To play) $5(To unlock guns permanently, one time fee, free on PC.) $0 (For multiplayer fees).
I understand that this review is mentioning black-light a lot but that's what AW is essentially a $60 dollar Black light, Titanfall and Crysis with the crappy Call of Duty repetition. AW isn't as **** as people say it is. It's just not worth the price considering how the final product compares to the hype and their are superior alternatives that either cost the same or are cheaper. EX: Battlefield.

MW2 was highly anticipated, and did an OK job at expanding the story line and improving multiplayer by a considerable amount. One of the first "Off topic" call of duty games was World At War, which changed the whole way COD was played. Advanced warfare is a modern World at war. It has drastically changed the way COD is played, in good (and bad) ways. Many people have became highly critical of this game due to it's new features. Because of this, AW has developed a sort of "Love/Hate" Relationship with its fans. I think that sledgehammer took a huge risk with this game- which was unexpected, due most cod games being the same thing, but with different things in them. Call of duty is a lot like a sandwich. The concept is the bread, and the series/title is the filling. The bread stays the same, but the filling changes. They have changed the bread to flatbread for this game.
The campaign lacks replay ability. It's very short too. Engine is very old, and it's turning into titanfall.
If you're a die hard COD fan and you have the money spare, this is a decent buy. If you've never played COD games before, give this one a miss- it's nothing like its predecessors.

The absence of dedicated servers on PC once again makes this yet another multiplayer disappointment. This is by the far the single biggest reason to avoid this game on the PC on principle and in practice.
The single player I found to be typically derivative from previous titles in it's level design and story (so expect nothing new here) however this time however it has included (and to a much more subdued extent) mechanics borrowed from other shooters. These additional mechanics offer very minor, but welcome improvements to the single player gameplay overall, but you could play the respective source material and enjoy these various mechanics to a much fuller extent through significantly better single player experiences, so there implementation here with no real innovation doesn't feel worth while overall.
Visually it looks superior to Ghosts, but by about as much as each COD game generally improves visuals every year. Certainly the visuals put on show in the trailers are from pre-rendered cut scenes, which look significantly better than the game play, even maxed out on PC, which is fairly misleading.
It does however run significantly better and comes with plenty of quality settings, which is a welcome change.
Many reviewers have touted these improvements to really freshen up the series, however this is only because the series suffered from extremely derivative and repetitive content for so many years. On it's own it is the iterative improvement each new installment should be, but offers nothing revolutionary like United Offensive or Modern Warfare did back in the series prime.
This game sits above many of the series worst entries, but falls significantly shorter of the series highs.
I wouldn't recommend this on PC if you are interested in the multiplayer, you don't have any dedicated servers and so much like Ghosts the community will be next to nonexistent in only a few months. I wouldn't recommend the single player on it's own especially for the full retail price. If you are interested in what's here, Crysis Warhead is very similar and significantly more enjoyable and well made single player game and it also has the advantage of looking better than Advanced Warfare, despite it's age.
Overall I wouldn't recommend this installment, the lack of dedicated servers and ho-hum single player do nothing to justify the price or stand out from the last few installments overall.
Perhaps a return to WW2 that focuses on core mechanics is what the series needs to really deliver once again. Or perhaps it's finished and it's time to move onto other more innovative franchises, only time will tell.

To score a game 0 it would have to crash at the menus every time you inserted the disc and then literally eject itself and try to decapitate you!

Hello everyone, first of all I'd like to say that it's the first time I ever write a review. I usually don't but now I just had to, why? because it amaze me how many people rate this game 0/10 without having it, or even seeing any gameplay or anything. So here's my review! Hello everyone, first of all I'd like to say that it's the first time I ever write a review. I usually don't but now I just had to, why? because it amaze me how many people rate this game 0/10 without having it, or even seeing any gameplay or anything. So here's my review! (and sorry for my bad english).

I played a few hours, both a bit of multiplayer and singleplayer so my experience in this game isn't very big. I don't usually like call of duty but I had hope in this one because it doesn't seem to be a lame other copy of older cods. I saw some gameplays and trailers and I found the idea of exo skeletons and futuristic theme in call of duty quite promising.
Of course I was not very confident, it is still a call of duty and it's Activision blabla.... you know the story...
BUT! It's sledgehammer who did the developpement, a new studio that never did a whole game themselve, so maybe it will be innovative? Here's what my first impressions were:

Singleplayer: I did not play much and therefor doesn't know much about the campain, i must admit. But the graphics were quite a surprise for me. First I was watching some screenshots of the game and I was like "Damn it must be a bit photoshopped or something" then on my computer I launched the game, near to max settings 1440p and the only things I can say: Amazing, some says that the engine is old and stuff, but really it doesn't seem so. I played the game and I can guarantee that the graphics of this game is really more than acceptable, okay textures, great lightings, really nice animations and good modelisation. The sounds of weapons may still not beat the quality of the latest battlefield but talking about environment sounds, there's a good job done here.
I'll talk about the gameplay in the multiplayer section. For the plot of the story, I don't know much about it at the moment so I can't really talk about it.

Multiplayer: I guess that's what you guys want more in this game, multiplayer. So I played a bit, against players and bots (yes there are bots and private game options).
I'll start with the gameplay: One of the most nervous fps around, of course I can understand it is not the taste of everyone but I quite enjoyed it, maps are well designed, you can jump high and get to some points of the map to gain some visibility or just snipe some people, you can dash down and smash someone, slide, side dashes, etc. Many people say it's a titanfall ripoff, I played titanfall and trust me, it does not feel the same as titanfall at all ( and advanced warfare was already in developpement when titanfall came out so...). It's really fun, but a bit hard to manoevre. For the weapons I haven't tested them all, there are a lot of funny gadgets and weapons, that's all I can say, oh and the melee attack is a huge punch that sends your victim to the skies, if this is not cool, I don't know what is.

game modes: This game has casual modes and competitive modes (esport) so everyone should be pleased, an accessible game for anybody and a good game to master and play competitively for the veterans.

Didn't want to read all my review? no problem, here's the good and cons:

    Goods:
    - Good graphics
    - Solid and fast gameplay
    - Maps are a bit more open than in other call of duties (due to mobility)
    - Innovation compared to other call of duties
    Cons:
    - Expensive (ofc)
    - Too fast for some people I guess

That's all, I initially put 8/10 because it's not an absolute perfect game but it's really good and I'll add a point to make cry all the haters that rates this game so bad without knowing anything so 9/10. (sorry again for my english).

This is a vast improvement over the recent CoD games, especially that last one. CoD has been on the decline for a while and I was losing hope in the series. This is the CoD that fixes almost everything wrong with the previous games. I was never a huge fan of the series since CoD 4, but I find this to be the one that is up to par with CoD4.

I have been finding the single player to be one of the best in the series, with a great story and characters that are fleshed out. The campaign has a great pace and the addition of the exo suit add so much more mobility to the game with the jet pack and cloak and many other abilities to change things up. The campaign also has a great length, taking about 7 to 8 hours to complete.
The multiplayer is a huge improvement as well. Feeling so much more fast paced and fluid. With the addition of the exo suit the MP has a much different feeling from the previous games, more in the realm of Quake. Camping is not as much of an issue now since the addition of the exo suit means you have to be quick on your feet to stay alive. Snipers are not as much of an issue now either since they have to be on the move much more now. When choosing your loadout and abilities there is so much more to choose from. The customization choices are vast with so many weapons and abilities to choose from. Even when choosing for score streaks there is abilities that you can add onto the streaks themselves to add even more customization. All in all this is one of the best CoDs in a while. Sledgehammer has rejuvenated a series that was dying.
CoD AW is also a great PC port, with tons of graphic settings to choose from including PC specific features. It even has a FOV slider for multiplayer that I kind of wish was on the single player as well, but it is not too huge of an issue. This is also a great running game, it usually hovers around 100fps on my 780ti and 144hz monitor with maxed out graphics.

Only bad thing is that i completed the Campaign and all Achievment/Trophies in about 13-15 hours. This gives players the ability to quickly bail out of a tough spot, but it really makes the gameplay more frantic in my opinion. I've had no lag or stuttering without touching any of the settings (although max ping by default is 800 like previous CoD games, so you can change that in an ini, which I have not done yet either). I have a i5 4670k and radeon 7870 2g. Game doesn't really LOOK impressive, but it doesn't look any different than ghosts did either. I'd recommend it to fans of the Call of Duty series, or someone looking for a new FPS to play for a little. Haven't played CoD since MW2. Advanced Warfare is enough of the same to feel comfortable, but systems like "Pick 13" and the ExoSuit make the experience feel fresh, provide tons of customization, and gives a stupidly fun game to kill time. Obvious inspiration from TItanfall, but where Respawn failed in delivering a fully loaded Multiplayer and Single player experience, AW succeed.

A great move away from CoD Ghosts, the new Titanfall/Crysis-esque mechanics have allowed for a much more fast paced combat system, and some great close up fight action, but they are fairly balanced as they give away your position pretty quickly when you are flying around the map. Although it is not the best story it is still fun to play through with great voice acting and sharp new face capture tech adding depth to a fun box office like action adventure. I don't care much on CoD multiplayer because I pretty much gave up on it years ago. It is just overly populated with 14 year olds which takes away from the play experience. Besides Battlefield multiplayer offers more variety and feels more like an actual team vs team battle. CoD somehow never got there and I am guessing that this is intentional to keep the game simply for the younger audience...
Anyhow, this is probably the best installment for quite some time.

This finally represents the rebalancing of the Call of Duty franchise. The playing field is now much more level. With all the tools and gadgets a hell of a lot more variety and randomness as well as unpredictability has been introduced into the game making it competitive for all.

That's what veterans who've dominated the game don't like. They don't like someone else coming along and whipping their butt because they are more creative. The rules should always make a competitive game not a club of elites who firever dominate. Take snipers. They've dominated for so long. What do they do that's skillful? They just camp and wait with a scope. Where's the skill in that? And if he misses he should be penalised and the advantage go to the opponent. Now the opponent can hunt him down before he gets away so that's more than fair.

Seeing through walls. This is advanced warfare. We have heat seeking missiles as well as technology which can detect a heat signature so why not use it? This game was very well thought out. Yes it's linear but so are all COD games. It's not Far Cry.

Another thing is what rig you play it on. This game has awesome graphics, sound and effects but what you get depends on how good your PC is. On my PC and GPU and with surround headphones I get an experience and immersion that makes me feel I'm right there myself. But others with weaker hardware may get a very ordinary experience.

I'm just loving this and so far it's the best COD I've played. This is definitely a change for the better. New tools, new problems and a whole new game. For the campers and snipers and veterans of previous versions if you're good enough you'll make your mark here to but now you're made to earn it knowing one missed snipe will have a mob of eco suited enemies on your doorstep. You're no longer a protected species and can be hunted and got to as fast as you can flee so the onus on you now is not to miss. Now your skill is really being tested. Anyone can camp and snipe endlessly where nobody can get to them but now you can be gotten to in a flash and thus we hear your moaning and groaning. If you're really good now you're being asked to prove it.

This game feels like a completely new Call of Duty! The graphics are much better than previously and the sound has been also improved too. The facial animation is astonishing and having Kevin Spacey as a really good actor in the game is awesome. Moreover the game has been bug free on day-1.

Best Call of Duty made so far imo (Said from a guy that started with CoD1 and has played every cod)

This game is a lot of fun. There’s some Crysis in it, some Titanfall, some elements borrowed from Unreal Tournament and Battlefield. Underneath it’s still Call of Duty though, finally modernized in terms of visuals. [13/2014, p.50]

It's the best Call of Duty campaign in years, and the multiplayer continues to scratch a certain itch. [Jan 2015, p.64]

A new engine and new ideas breath new life into a series that was in serious danger of turning stale.
