Next AWESOME game from DICE. BF4 improves everything from BF3. There are great maps, great graphics (well, maybe it isn't graphic revolution but it looks fantastic). About single player, I even don't want to begin that. SP was always showcase of engine. Really worth play

    Nearly perfect!
The game would be the perfect Battlefield experience for all fans.
The maps are big and intense. The sounds and graphics are amazing. And the gun-play feels a lot more realistic than in Bf3.

I would like to give the game a 10/10 but there are still some sound bugs and client crashes for me.

Game is full of bugs. The interface is horrible. But the gameplay is fine. I like it still. EA/Dice are evil companies but this game is still fine. Although they have been working hard to make it crap. The game still plays well. I like playing it still. But other Battlefield oh... they totally ruined it. This is what remained of good.

The negatives are either COD fanboys or trolls to be honest. The single player isn't THAT bad. I would say its okay, but its Battlefield so who cares about SP? Multiplayer on the other hand is excellent and I mean it when I say that. Its much more smoother.

The new installment of the battlefield franchise has improved upon its predecessor in many forms! It contains an immerse multiplayer experience that'll leave you to want more of the adrenaline rush! The campaign was a bit lackluster but, if you are looking for a game that delivers exponentially on multiplayer. This is the must have game for you!

Gameplay is significantly different from Battlefield 3. Everything around the core game has been shuffled around: class rebalance, squad perks, commander/squad leaders, vehicle perks/balance. From first impression the balances seem to add to what Battlefield 3 has brought, but we'll have to see beyond launch date (i.e. bugs/expolits, balance with unlock weapons, map balances, etc). From first impression the balances seem to add to what Battlefield 3 has brought, but we'll have to see beyond launch date (i.e. bugs/expolits, balance with unlock weapons, map balances, etc). The game is a bit buggy; some seem to be client sided (drivers, internet lag) but a good portion seems to emerge from overloaded servers and just plain subpar netcode. Overall, the game is very impressive, and although the Levolution is sometimes aesthetic and gimmicky, it does add another level of impression of the player's actions having at least some impact on the massive maps. If the game had taken a delay and smoothed out all of the bugs, the game would have been a potential 10. Until the bugs are patched, this game can only live up below its true potential. Expand

The only 2 bad thing are: They should give you a little more guidance on where to go, as I got stuck a couple of times and confused. The second thing is that there is no 800x600 resolution. Anyway, absolutely beautiful game, definitely worth upgrading your PC for to get it running smooth and crisp. Already this new branch of BF goes above and beyond with the level design and I seriously can't wait to see a Hong Kong based level. Gaming wise, it's much more balanced than the previous version. Unless there are seriously ridiculous late game unlocks then I can't imagine seeing many problems in the way of balance.
As usual however the single player leaves something to be desired, though there's not much you can do for games of this style in terms of a compelling story line. Admittedly there were a few parts where I actually felt something ((SPOILER: Especially where the two guys were trapped under the grate and going to drown.)) But there are a few too many bugs and slip ups that just tick you off and pull you right back out of it.
Either way, we all know it's about the multiplayer and as always, it's very, very, very fun.

It is a worthy successor simply put, with great audio, graphics and level design. On top of that with the new features like the new game modes and Levolution make it a great game.

The games runs an improved version of the engine, although many people think it is only a slight increase (aka Frostbite Engine 2.5) with respect to Battlefield 2/ Frostbite Engine 2, it clearly is not. The visual aspect of the game, the handling and the netcode for example are very much so improved without going the 'crysis route' of creating a stunning game that can't be ran properly. Battlefield 4 handles and feels differently then its predecessor, this can be a bit disappointing depending on what you might expect, but in the end it does work better is most aspects, i am sorry to say that if you feel this way but you simply have to adjust... So dit I !

The netcode is still server based which is not the best way to go, but it has been tweaked to such an extend that you as the player don't die behind corners anymore. This still does rarely happen but way less then it used to do. This and other things make the matches way way more enjoyable since there are pretty much no more 'rage moments' for me and overall i feel less cheated by it when it does happen.

The single player of Battlefield 4 has in my opinion been massively improved over Battlefield 3. In Battlefield 3 the story was nonexistent (joke) and felt really chaotic. It really felt like they HAD to showcase everything and made up an story that goes along with that. Off course you should not expect an deep story from a first person shooter but still.. Now for the Battlefield 4 story you could say that same but it is not that bad, it feels way less repetitive although still very linear. Also i don't feel that Dice is forcing me to try and see everything the engine has to offer. The single player is not to long either which in my case is a good thing.

The multiplier is very engaging right from the start, like i said earlier it does feel like a different game and that might upset you a little bit, just like it did to me. But after playing the beta and now the final game i can happily conclude that i am very satisfied with the progress Dice made to the Battlefield series. I came from playing hardcore on Battlefield 3 to Battlefield 4 in normal mode, it looks like dice mixed them up a little bit. The guns do more damage but sniping still 'reacquires' you to aim for the head. The vehicular combat also has been overhauled, the tanks for example don't slip as much around corners and don't have as much ammo so you really have to think about when you shoot (this also applies to infantry as you easily run low on ammo). Air vehicles don't fly though 'thick air' anymore so they are faster and more maneuverable.

Overall it just is a brilliant game and no other that offers this kind of smooth gun play.

Seeing a glorious fully-loaded Conquest battle play out remains as exciting as BF1942, with aircraft, tanks, jeeps and boats all duking it out while infantry takes the battle indoors. There is nothing more exciting than sneaking C4 onto an enemy tank, or having a friendly jet swoop in out of nowhere to smoke the enemy helo that was about to shred you to pieces. Gameplay is not really all that different from BF3, but certain things such as progression and controls have been refined. And, needless to say, the graphics have gotten an upgrade which is actually a bad thing for players with PS3's, 360's, or older PCs. The Frostbite engine has gotten a new revision for this title, and it shows, both in terms of graphics and in terms of demands on your machine. Comparison videos of 360 vs PC are almost comical, and the minimum specs for the PC version marches on as always. The gap between the old consoles and a high-end PC has never been wider, and if you aren't going to upgrade to a PS4 or Xbox One, or upgrade your PC rig, I suggest you stay away from this title. Seriously: there is no reason anyone should ever buy the PS3 or 360 version of this game! You have been warned!

As always, this is a team-oriented game. Even in Deathmatch mode. People who prefer lone-wolf bunny-hopping DM with no strategy or VoIP required might want to check out a certain other FPS franchise which also released its newest version recently... Ball of Dooty, Fall of Booty, something like that I think.

Anyway, the king of the game remains Conquest, same as any other entry of the (non-BC) Battlefield series. This is the mode where the teams try to capture and hold points; typically, some points are close to each team's initial spawn, while the ones in the center get the majority of the bloodshed. The game does have a couple of infantry-only modes, namely an infantry version of Conquest called Domination, and a Counterstrike-inspired Defuse mode; but these are not the thrust of the game. The other popular mode is Rush, which IMO is better served by the smaller maps and doesn't really work on the big-huge open maps.

Like BF3, this game has lots of roles for players to serve, even if they suck at aiming and can't fly without smashing into a building. Suppressive fire is more significant than before, and only requires you shoot in the general neighborhood of the enemy; healing, rezzing or resupplying gives plenty of points without needing skills at aiming.

The game finally has native VoIP, so you don't have to worry about setting up a vent server anymore, and you can actually talk to people during a pick-up match. Enjoy the thrill of coordinating your squad's next move with the drunk 55 year old in Florida and the caffeinated 10 year old in Ontario. Can't wait, can you?

One of the bad things about multiplayer, as the previous paragraph implies, is the quality of player you are multi'ing with. If you don't have a bunch of IRL friends you can run with, expect to have a very uneven experience with pick-up groups. There is nothing EA can do about this, of course, other than providing single-player modes... more on that in a moment.

The other thing you've heard about is the feature EA's marketing people decided to call... "Levolution." (sigh) Every map gets one big event that can (i.e., will) get triggered by players during the course of the match, such as the famous fall of the skyscraper in Shanghai. While this sort of thing is pretty to look at, IMO this usually makes the map worse for gameplay.

That said, expect to spend countless hours sucked into this game, giggling madly when you knife someone for their tags or /ragequitting after that same damn evil sniper got you for the 5th time in a row... only to return an hour later.

Singleplayer: The campaign is a huge step forward from BF3's laughable story. Yeah sure, the story is still pretty generic and DICE is still lightyears away from what Infinity Ward can put out in the campaign. And there are plotholes you can drive an M1 Abrams through. But at least the story isn't a confused, tacked-on mess like BF3's was; it has its enjoyable moments here and there; and it serves as a decent warm-up against an AI which is improved from last time. No longer will enemy soldiers happily march forward without cover in an endless quest to receive a lead transfusion from the player. And it does have some beautiful set pieces here and there, making full use of the Frostbite 3 engine, such as the mission on the sinking aircraft carrier. That said, the AI still kinda sucks overall, and the campaign is ridiculously easy compared to any COD campaign, even on Hard. "Better than BF3's campaign" is a very low bar to clear.

What would have been nice to see would have been a return of the bots to skirmish against on MP maps. Not a huge thing, but it would have made learning the maps so much easier without flesh-and-blood players shooting at me.

I mean, it was insane, I thought I had wasted $60 and was demanding a refund. The biggest issues were the textures of outdoor and indoor environments. I enjoy the recon class, and sniping really showed how poor everything looked. I installed the game day one, and had the mandatory 2GB download once the game started. Then it happened....I NEVER INSTALLED THE 2nd DISK!!!! That's where the HD textures were hiding. THIS GAME ROCKS. I loved COD, and opted out of ghosts due to some pretty bad feedback and didn't want to shovel out another $60 just yet. Gameplay: The game plays very similar to Battlefield 3 with a more tactical feel, and a more serious tone to the single player campaign. The guns feel realistic, the hit detection on enemies is improved. Unlimited sprinting, and sprinting while reloading. All types of vehicles which are fun to control and play a great part in the campaign. The campaign has more action, and better scripted events than the previous BF. The multiplayer consists of huge player battles, and the maps seem a lot better than Battlefield 3. This is one of the perfect FPS's on the market. Compared to COD, this is more of a realistic shooter rather than an arcade shooter. The single player was just way too short even on the hardest difficulty, but BF games are known for their multiplayer experience. 9.5.

Story: The game plays out like a scripted hollywood movie, and while I did enjoy the story's progression, it quickly falls short and dull, and the choice at the end is just ridiculous. We all wanted to go in ourselves. With that said, the emotions that they try to put in this game are just looked passed, and not given much thought. The characters seem interesting but the short campaign doesn't allow enough time to feel familiar with these characters which also makes the endings decision not much of an impact. 7.

Replay Value: Short campaign, but endless multiplayer. Co-op is no longer apart of the package, I would still recommend this game for people who enjoy endless unscripted multiplayer battles. 8.5.

This is the year that BF beats out CoD. I played COd and I'm done and probably not going back again! The only complaint this year for BF is the game feels buggier than the BF3 launch and I'm still getting a lot of lag even on sub 20 ping servers. The Battlelog is even deeper than before and the maps are entertaining so far. 15 hours in and I'm enjoying the ride.

I found the Campaign to be extremely well balanced and fun. Characters voices and animations and acting, the atmosphere, the different scenarios and the general gameplay are just brilliant.

I've also been playing the Multiplayer for several months now, it's what I expected to be with some tweaks, upgrades and really fun levels to play. I have played this game for around 200 hours and I must say that it is a well-balanced game, but does contain bugs.

When this game first launched in it's Beta, it had uncountable problems. Network issues, game issues, absolutely terrible service, and overall a bad experience. Now although DICE, the developers of Battlefield 4, has fixed most of these issues after the initial release of the product, it still contains issues to this day.

DICE is constantly trying to improve, but doesn't allow room for that to happen. Recently, in the upcoming game "Battlefield: Hardline," a new developer team "Visceral" has teamed up with DICE and took control of the new product. They initialized an 'Open Beta' for the game and I got a chance to play it. It is going to be a great game and there were not many bugs, but I will save that review for another time. While DICE is a great team, Visceral beats DICE at least in the support department because they were really open to criticism and suggestions, which DICE is coming shy of.

So while this game has it's ups and downs, I think it does deserve more attention as they are always improving it. I'd suggest it to a friend.

The vehicles are really fun to use too, as they provide the player with a great amount of weaponry at disposal whether you want to engage in ground or aerial combat. Furthermore, the visuals are outstanding, even though this game is almost 8 years old at this point. The same praise goes to the realistic sound design as well.
The singleplayer is mediocre, so if you're looking for a worthwhile story campaign, look elsewhere. However, Battlefield was never known for its singleplayer anyway.

The singleplayer is.. Not good.. No, not only "Not good" it's like.. Did you ever wondered how leukemia would taste like if it is a food? Yeah, sounds accurate.

In 2013 it was a Battlefield 3.5 more or less, I have to admit that, it had bugs, like a lot of bugs, like wow, so many bugs.
The netcode was just laughable, the only good things were the gunplay, the designs, the animations(although they could add some new levelution animations, because the current ones are getting annoying) and that's it.
Most of those problems may be because of its early release, but now after almost 2 years later the game plays completely different.
(I still hate the unlock system and the **** ship-trash, but atleast they offer you something for your money, 4 new maps, new weapons, new gamemodes and now after the release the whole thing is a lot of cheaper, and definetely worth it).

They overworked the netcode, now it has a better netcode than any CS, which was always praised for its Netcode, 60Hz servers are now common(at least in CTE).
A lot of patches overworked the bugs and missing gameplay features and unbalanced weapons.

Everything has been overworked, even the loading times, which annoy some people as it seems.
(Don't join a full server, or get rid off your bad Internet).

The unlock system is still bad and I hate it, but it's a modern multiplayer game and sadly it's common to do that in such games.

They are still developing a lot of new content, apologizing for its bad release.
DICE LA is trying hard to get the best experience out of this game and the managed it, now (2015) it's awesome and one of the best multiplayer games and Battlefield's of all time.

I hate like 90% of the community, but that's irrelevant for you.

The single player may be lackluster, but who purchases Battlefield for the single player? I'd honestly be happy with a Battlefield game that doesn't have a single player, but rather a well-polished multiplayer. Specialization is a much better approach rather than an attempt to make a game that's a "Jack of all trades." That's just one man's opinion though.

Great multiplayer with slight improvement over BF3, but the maps are worse.
Campaign was meh. I would have liked if it had 3rd option in the ending - sacrificing Recker instead of Hannah or Irish. And AIs in campaign are absolute joke, they just shoot at walls.
I hope they will make sequel fort his game because clearly there is a cliffhanger in the ending.

The only reason there are so many negative reviews for this game is because the launch was a buggy mess. Even I stopped playing the game at launch and waited several months (if not a year I can't really remember). Most games nowadays come out a mess anyway so it's nothing new.

Overall this game will probably go down as my favorite shooter multiplayer of all time. I struggle to find anything that comes close to replicating the amount of fun I had in this game.

Honestly one of the best fps shooters I have ever played. Unlike bf1, this game favors gun skill and not rng spread. The maps are great and offer less meat grindy gameplay. Only issue I have is the vehicle balancing on certain maps and the mediocre campaign.

The only real negative is the terrible single-player campaign. This single-player experience is bland, short (only seven chapters!) and forgettable; hopefully DICE leaves it out in the next installment, as it is largely irrelevant to why people buy this game. This is why I gave it an eight instead of a nine, purely because I believe the Battlefield series should be a wholly multiplayer experience.

Long story short; buy this game for the multiplayer, be wary of the single player.

The experience was just not good.

Now, however, it runs very smoothly and the experience is overall very good. It is much better with a few Squadmates over Teamspeak, but if you find yourself a good squad, you can use the integrated VOIP and have a very fun teamwork experience.

It's not revolutionary, it's the same battlefield as BF3, only somewhat tweaked, destruction refined, and with a LARGE number of maps and modes.

Hardly worth full release price at the time, but it's a bargain now: you can easily put in 500 hours before becoming anywhere near bored, as it offers excellent variety.

Fantastic, exciting multiplayer as always in the Battlefield series. Dice has clearly gone out of their way to improve upon Battlefield 3 and deliver an explosive sequel worthy of the Battlefield brand. This is primarily a multiplayer game. The single player campaign may be a bit lackluster, but it is just a bonus thrown on top of an epic online gaming experience.

I find this game too similar to BF3. It feels more like a big DLC than a whole new game. However, the game is fun and as soon as launch glitches and crashes are taken care of it should be a solid game.

The other issue I have, and sadly it's common practice now, but the premium and DLC packs. In a sense I don't consider these packs taking away from the main game because the amount of maps the main game has is on par with all previous titles have at launch. The downside to me is the fact at one time maps and DLC was free, or even cheap, not $15 for four maps.

Furthermore the gameplay is good as always, but the biggest improvements is the map design is a little more open then 3 in my view. Metro and other maps failed at times as it was too linear for a BF game without multiple access points, and these maps seem to have corrected that issue. Also there is more emphasis on vehicles on some maps, and even naval warfare on a couple of maps. Finally the levolution technology which is a cool idea seeing certain parts of the map changing the dynamic of your strategy, but it isn't always executed well. Some maps change how you attack a point, but other times it just adds some debris in the way.

In regards to the single player campaign it's nothing special. It has some cool moments and it's fun, but it isn't long or anything revolutionary. It's a typical popcorn flick in which there is a lot of action, a basic story without much character development, and it consists a few what you would call wow moments. Overall the game feels more stable then BF3, and it has some nice changes which I think are good. If you like multiplayer shooters, definitely check out; however, if you are a player who randomly enjoys them, then wait for a sale on the main game or get BF3 as you have plenty of choices for your FPS fix.

Not 100% but it runs great on most PCs now. After the flak that EA and DICE got concerning these problems at launch and the high competition between Call of Duty, DICE decided to buckle down and promise players that they would fix the game, and so they did, and they did a good job at it by adding even more so than originally promised. However it does not mean they should do it again and hopefully they learned their lesson through this game. They still continue to deliver. Which is why BF4 holds up to this date, and hundreds of people are still playing it after flocking from Hardline and even the newly released Battlefront game. Lots of modes, maps, teamplay, gun play, graphics, are all fantastic. It is worth a buy right now since it is quite cheap along with the premium pass. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The next installment of the battlefield franchise has finally arrived, but unfortunately like most games this year it is not with out it's problems. The battlefield franchise has always set its multiplayer first since the very beginning of the franchise all the way back to the first battlefield, battlefield 1942. back then single player was just the multilayer maps with bots. But over the past few installment they have put more effort into there single player experience like battlefield bad company 1, battlefield bad company 2 and battlefield 3. Bad company 2 was a sequel to bad company 1 and brought over the same characters you played as and with from the first installment. You would assume that battlefield 4 being a sequel to battlefield 3 would do the same, but unfortunately this is not the case. You do see three characters from the BF3 but they are killed off and not flushed out, and you never know what happened to the others that were in BF3. This time you take the over the roll of a new character and are in a new squad. Unlike bf3 you don't switch to other characters to see a different sides of the story, you are the same guy though the whole game. This can be a good thing if its done right but unfortunately its not bf4. You can given the ability to order to attack this it, not move, that’s it and unfortunately you squad won't really do anything unless you tell them to, which like most AI these day is typical and makes you ask the question, why even include them. Now the story is very dry and could have been much better, quick version China's peaceful leader “killed” by Rogue Chinese general, you find said “killed” leader, attacked, get separated, trap, double cross, double agent, peaceful leader reveals himself, general pissed you blow him up. Kinda of like the movie “tears of the sun” but not good. The ending does even feel like and ending and you don't really care what happens, BF3 you were trying to stop a madman from setting off a nuke in a major city it was just more gripping to me. I found bf3 story way more entertaining then BF4 story, and that’s saying something because BF3 story was not the best, but way better then BF4s story. I mean you didn't not get that rush like when the theme kicked in when launching from the aircraft carrier in BF3. Every time the theme song builds in bf4 its for nothing and when it finally hits its peak you find yourself scratching your head asking why, this is not the right time for that. So the single player is bad.
Now lets move on to why I keep returning the battlefield franchise and same with the rest of the loyal fans the multiplayer. When it works its great. A lot more customization options, new weapons, attachments, still all there and its great. The updated destruction is amazing, the water effects are great, levelolution is great, the maps are breathtaking, when it running good everything looks fantastic. It does feel as though they increased the speed of the game, which you will hear a lot of comparing to what else call of duty(I was since the begin call of duty I on PC of course, until Modern Warfare 2, after that the rest were well you know, crap), yes its faster but it almost feel like its more toward BF2 speed, but in my opinion it was a good choice.
Now here are the negative sides of the game, first of all if you have not heard or read online, the game freezes/crashes, a lot.... it did the same in the beta and I thought they would have addressed this but it was not obviously. So you will find it extremely frustrating when you been playing for 15 mins, parachute down behind a guy go to knife him and stop.....game froze. The freeze can happened at any time, I have it had it freeze 2 mins into a game all the way up to 18 mins into the game. In addition there are bugs/glitch like your sound cutting out not completely but enough were you know and its annoying. Also you will have to deal with server crashes during and after a round ends which is also frustrating. I mean with all these problems with the multiplayer and how bad the single player was I wish the scrap the single player all together and paid more attention to what keeps bring me and others back to the series. The graphic engine is great but you may feel the game was like how I considered BF2142 was to BF2, an expansion or could have been a mod. Don't get me wrong the game runs way better and looks amazing it just feels as though its frostbite 2.5 not really frostbite 3.
All and all when the Battlefield 4 multiplayer runs with no problems its a fun and exiting experience that makes it all worth it. But until they get all the bugs figured out, I would recommend waiting a few weeks before purchasing it unless you want to be frustrated.

The sounds of the various objects in the game are still fresh, it makes for some really intense moments that can make even the most casual FPS player feel like a hero if they so wish.

The multiplayer mode is as good as it ever has been, it's battlefield, you know what you're getting as far as game-play is concerned, there is no comparison to the sheer fun that can be had. Personally, i have experienced a few annoying connection issues that with persistence can be overcome, EA does seems to get this wrong a lot (you'd think with all the money saving from shutting down the old servers, the newer ones would be up to the job, no?).

So, enough with the praise and onto the gripe, there is a reason why this game scored 8/10 apart from all the other faults you might find when playing it yourselves, and that is one word, BATTLELOG. A PC issue first and foremost, why does this thing still exist? Why is the integration of social media and games becoming a thing nowadays? The whole experience of having to open each game through a window makes the product feel like it is held together with tape, it doesn't FEEL like a complete game, almost like the game was an afterthought and battlelog itself should take centre-stage, totally unnecessary, just stick to menus, please.

All things considered, it's a good and fun game to play, best played with friends or relatives in squad play to rack up points, the single player is a definite step up from BF3, so check it out.

I have to be honest when I first started playing online it didn't give me that buzz I had compared to BF3 or BC2, but now as the more I play online is really growing on me, its typical BF with a few new features, the campaign so far blows BF3 out of the water, but then again it didn't really need to try extra hard. By making the rate of fire indicator visible in hardcore is a god send, instead of having to waste ammo to find out, also it feels like bullets do more damage, you have confidence in knowing when you fire a burst at an enemy he's going down, it didn't feel like that it BF3. So all in all I like the game its made improvement in the right places, while adding features in the environment that really fill you with panic when you're running for your life to the edge of a skyscrapers roof to parachute off after hearing the building your standing on is about to collapse. Battlefield 4 keeps soldiering on in the same footsteps as previous games in the series. The lack of worthwhile news makes you wish for more. Dice stays in its comfort zone calls for explosions and not much more. The series needs to evolve or fade out.
