Brilliant game, bought it day 1 and enjoying it since, so glad that the Bad Company aspect is gone from the franchise because it made the campaign in BFBC1 and BFBC2 seem too immature. Exciting campaign and an even better multiplayer with modes such as Conquest and Rush as well as Squad Deathmatch for those who want to have a CoD multiplayer experience.

Then I ran into all sorts of issues with installation, thanks to Origin. Then I couldn't jump into a multiplayer game for days because of server issues. Then I had problems with optimizing the game due to driver issues, bugs, etc. Then I had all sorts of confusion overwhelm me because of poor integration and navigation, jumping from the Origin client, to the Battlelog website, to game. From what I can tell, many others were having these issues too, and were dinging the game reviews because of it. But I held on, and once I got into the game, I really started to enjoy it. Singleplayer still doesn't hold a candle to multiplayer, so at the end of the day, the multiplayer is so good, I kept coming back for more. It's fun switching up the classes, playing different roles, and upgrading your capabilities. Levels are rock solid in design, and the vehicles make battles feel like real warfare. And really, that's all I care about. Good solid fun... even if it was a serious pain to get this that point. Expand

Also, the game is not without it's issues. Server crashes occur from time to time and many times "BF2.exe has stopped working" will appear when you attempt to launch. There are also some in-game issues. Controls for Choppers and Jets need work and binding controls in general is a bit of a hassle. My only issues with the game are really that you can't cook grenades and at times it will spawn you out in the middle of nowhere when the teammate you try to spawn on died in the process. As far as the game itself... It is GORGEOUS. Even on a modest computer just above minimum specs the game is beautiful. This is the new benchmark for visuals. Persistance is way more like BF2 then the Bad Company series. It's going to take you a while to get to rank 50. 100+ hours if you're a good player. The sound is just perfect. It's almost flawless. Maps are nice and big for the most part and I can't wait for Karkand expansion. I highly prefer team based, squad oriented play over the run and gun style of the competition. Given a little time and a few updates/patches... EA will make this the best FPS on any platform. It's just Excellent Expand

Sounds are brilliant. Visuals... Oh, the visuals deserves its own big review, looks amazing and vivid. Jets and helis not underpowered, but requires skill to operate. Most amazing FPS experience ever. Running 4 servers w/ my PC clan mates who are BF2 and BC2 veterans. We are 60+ members strong and are all enjoying the MP immensely. =HOG= is our clan. I won't give it a 10 because nothing is perfect. Some things need addressed, but certainly DICE released us a working game that's a lot of fun and has amazing graphics and sound.

As for the multiplayer, its friggin awesome. Huge maps, lots of teamwork, vehicles and weapons. People reading low rating reviews should check that many problems have been fixed such as the ability to join any squad, balancing and Back to Kirkland is AWESOME.

I have played all of the the Battlefield Series. This one is deep, fun and full of action. I also like the way Battle log works. Single player? Who cares? This is Battlefield, you do not come to Battlefield to play a single player game but to go online. I really liked Bad Company 2 and thought I could never be pulled from that one but BF3 did just that!

Now as much as people are raving on about the graphics, there are some nice touches, but all in all, it's rather gimmicky, light flares lighting up nothing but the immobile transparent predefined collection of splatters on your face to enthrall your eyeholes. High res textures are nice, some rather clever shortcuts that still look flashy without sacrificing performance, but you'll need to be liberal with performance if you want to steal any thunder from the likes of Crysis 1, which I still consider the graphics overlord (I'm a whore for eyecandy), or to perform a jump in visuals as it did for it's time.
What DOES steal the show for me, I have to say, is the audio. Excellent backdrop noises, distanced action, indoor echoes, footsteps that actually sound like what you're maneuvering on, and gunfire around you that makes you bloody well hope it's not coming towards you as you dive for your flimsy brick and mortar cover. Top notch job here.

Singleplayer is a major downer, as it's a rather dramatic story with some decent acting added that ultimately culminates in something utterly forgettable and lifeless. Crummy plot told in an entirely unartistic, uninnovative and tardy prequel format, and the closest deviation towards something remotely hinted to as a twist is shooting your own CO. Though I have to say, I'm happy you don't trundle along with the mobility of a stocked dairy freezer chest as BF:BC2's protagonists did. Though there was talk of a Vanilla milkshake in there somewhere.

Multiplayer on the other hand is a little bit more of a dusty gem. The Battlelog interface is a bloody dealbreaker, since you have to quit and reconnect to change server, (OR IF YOUR NVIDIA DRIVER STOPS RESPONDING, which seems to be a clock frequency issue... Tut tut, DICE.) but even with their stubborn refusal to add an ingame server browser, what was wrong with running an interface from that abomination called Origin that we were forced to have on our PC's in the first place? Why have ANOTHER middleman?
But all in all, past all the **** the multiplayer handles well, the weapons are responsive and do what they're expected to do, and your thunderthighs prepare you for miles of endless sprinting which speeds things up a bit. It's really fun and the unlocks are varied and satisfying enough to give you incentive to keep going.

Just one thing... SPAWNING. OH GOOD LORD THE SPAWNING.

In short, if you have either consoles (which I usually don't consider for any FPS at all, but Battlelog really makes exceptions here), consider yourself a multiplayer buff, and enjoy a massively open battlefield with some serious distanced fighting (on foot anyhow) and exquisite audio, buy. PC, beware of that hive of scum and villany known as ORIGIN and Battlelog.
I've uninstalled it in the hopes that DICE will prefer to host it on a different service or standalone, though chances of that are tentatively slim.

However, HALT CRIMINAL SCUM! It's off to Skyrim!

I never appreciated sound in a game until BF3. The graphics are great, but the sound is what really draws me in. EA would have been better off leaving single player out and instead providing a way to train before jumping in to multiplayer. I applaud DICE for trying to make an innovation with this game, but some features are unwelcome. Origin, for example. Why replace Steam with your own site? However, on the other hand are some nice innovations and a good multiplayer. Singleplayer is bland, Black Ops style and linear. The menu is clear, another take from the Call of Duty series (I am NOT a Call of Duty fanboy, I just couldn't help seeing that both menus (the Battlelog one not the singlplayer one) are similar). However, its the multiplayer that makes Battlefield and Battlefield 3's is great. Theres only six maps, which is sad, but it is overall a great blast. Torches (a very powerful weapon), prone and destruction 3.0 all help in the mix. If you don't know Battlefield multiplayer of late, you're basically tossed in a large destructable map with 63 other people, heaps of vehicles, some objectives, a team support item and a gun. If this game was multiplayer only and featured an actual main menu (not Battlelog for launching), I would easily give this game a 10/10. Expand

Now the major part of the game, the multiplayer. The gameplay is great, but one thing that really kicked me in the ass is the Battlelog system. What it basically decides to do with stat-saving is not save your stats when you get extremely good stats, and when you play poorly and get bad stats, it saves that for you, and in the end your stats get screwed to oblivion because the system decided not to save the stats of half your games. It essentially destroys the experience by giving you nothing when you put effort into playing the game, and sucker-punches you when you don't, and instead of feeling fulfilled when a round is completed, you are left sitting there, crossing your fingers and hoping that it saves your stats from that round. Thanks a lot, Battlelog.

They have fixed a majority of the issues with the game and the game feels a lot more realistic.
There is currently no fps out there that even tries to make a shooter that feels more life-like than bf3. If you're looking for an arcade type shooter you should play CoD or Counter-strike

If you're looking for an arcade type shooter you should play CoD or Counter-strike (it's not a bad thing to want arcade games). However, BF3 will completely immerse you in a war-environment where cover and tactics matter.

Only gripe i have is with how suppression is right now since it makes bullets fly like they did with the AWP in CS 1.6. But it is definitely not a game breaker.

Two of the maps can be avoided for 64 conquest purposes (which is all you really need to be playing) 1st, Metro; I dunno who designed this map and thought it to be a good idea, but they should be fired, it sucks. 2nd, Damavand; This is similar to Metro but with a wider tunnel system but is still plagued with the who gets the middle base first, wins. Unless you get a decent amount of people behind with your littlebird. Apart from these two maps the other seven are great and hold many avenues for different gameplay and flanking. Each class has their own merits which can help your team greatly, though for pure gunplay and killing power the assault class is in a league of its own. The infantry gameplay does have a slight smell of CoD but then that really isn't a bad thing as CoD was once one of the best on the market (CoD1 and CoD4) though it's toned down and not on as much cocaine as CoD, it just makes infantry seem a lot more potent then other Battlefields were firing your gun felt like you were throwing stones at people. All around it's shaped up nicely but still has some working out to do, but I am sure DICE is in the gym now pumping keys, oh and guess WHAT?! With that said, I was hoping they would put a little more attention into the interior of buildings, we get the same empty rooms that were prevalent in bfbc2.

Sound - Indescribable until you hear it. Explosions have the ummph you expect them to, bullets passing by you crack like a whip, and vehicles sound like big machines of destruction! Hands down one of the best features of the game.

Gameplay - Gameplay is engaging, one of my biggest issues with gameplay is on the larger maps you will sometimes find yourself having to hoof it to get to the action because **** with the vehicles don't wait for passengers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Battlefield 3 is everything you were expecting, amazing graphics and sound design, huge and destructible maps filled with amazing detail (even on low settings), a fun Co-Op and a small but very entertaining Single Player. Some spoilers and long text incoming... First off, the Battlefield 3 Single Player. Battlefield 3 Single Player is far better than what I was expecting, all the critics saying that it was "cliché" and "boring in some points", but the truth is that Battlefield 3 campaign is really good. The Single-player starts with a bang, and then it slows a little bit. When the story started to slowdown I was I starting to think that the critics were correct, but right after the earthquake mission the the story just got serious and better, I was getting really entertained by it. The cut-scenes were well made and with good performances. The story has a lot of twists and and strong emotional points, witch all of them were very well made, but if you want to understand it, you need to be really concentrated. The campaign is really good and entertaining but it suffers from some bugs, A.I problems and the biggest of my complain, it is too much short. I finish this campaign in 3/4 hours, it might be short but it was entertaining. The Co-Op is very useful for the Multiplayer. It is really fun, entertaining and hard. The Co-Op is also short but each mission is different. The most fun might the chopper gunner, one controls the helicopter and the other is giving covering fire for two squads moving through the village. In the Co-Op you receive points that unlock some useful weapons that you can use in the Multiplayer. The Multiplayer is were Battlefield 3 really shines. Battlefield 3 Multiplayer is by far the best online experience I had (and still having) in 2011, this multiplayer just raised the barrier of FPS shooters in every perspective. The maps are huge and very detailed and the sound effects are top-notch. But this is a small part of this multiplayer experience. The biggest part is the freedom of choice, you can drive tanks, Humvees, jeeps and fly helicopter and jets. But the freedom does not stop here, with the power of Frostbite 2 engine, Battlefield 3 multiplayer maps are fully destructible. a camper hiding in a house near a wall? No problem, just put an RPG, a Tank or anything explosive into work and blow that wall! If that is not enough, just make the house crumble into pieces and dust. The destruction in Battlefield 3 is a real step forward from Bad Company 2. In Battlefield 3, when you start a match the maps are really amazing and detailed, in the end it´s just a pure chaos, in other words, it´s a full battlefield.Unlike some other FPS shooters, in Battlefield 3 you will need to work with your team, being a lone wolf wont help your team win the match. What surprised me most in battlefield 3 multiplayer is the unlocking system, it´s really easy to use and each weapon/vehicle/jets/Helicopters have a lot of unlocks. Before I talk about battlelog, battlefield's multiplayer also has some annoying things and problems in but they will not take away this amazing experience. Now it´s time for the Battlelog service provided by EA. First off, I don´t like that much Origin, but it is in beta stage and in the future it can be better. The Battlelog is where you start the Single Player/Multiplayer/Co-Op modes, in the Beta was not even impressed by the Battlelog, but now I think it is good and very easy to use. In battlelog is so easy to check your stats, unlocking progression, matches, dog tags, etc. In four clicks you can join a multiplayer match with a friend or alone. The stats are all there and you can even check every information of any weapon. You can chat and see your friends progression and stats and even comment every progression that he made during a match, and all of this is for free. For me Battlelog is very simple to use and it is what it was suppose to be, but it has some problems and it can be upgraded with some new things and improvements. This is the deepest and honest review I could have made for Battlefield 3, I made clear all the good points and the bad points, I know I am going to have a some haters down votes but I don´t care that much. Battlelog really isnt that bad, the game still works no matter where it is booted from that is good enough for me. Expand

The Battlefield series exists for multiplayer to such an extent, that most customers of this game will barely play the campaign in comparison to the multiplayer modes. In my case I played 7.5 hrs in Bad Company 2 in the campaign, whereas I spent almost 240 hrs playing the game online. In other words 3% of the time I spent playing BFBCS, I spent playing the single player campaign. Based on that experience, I base my review of Battlefield 3 almost completely (97%) on the multiplayer. In that respect this game is amazing. Stunning graphics, wonderful sound, and ridiculously addictive gameplay make BF3 a phenomenal game. In short, yes the single player campaign is sub par. So what?! Battlefield 3 is about insane online battles, not the single player campaign. Simple as that. Expand

Well, first off, the Singleplayer sucks, so I'm not even going to bother talking about that or including it in the review score. This is a multiplayer game at heart. This is a multiplayer game at heart. Secondly, the Co-Op is terrible unless you're with someone you know and have VoIP with them, cause they couldn't even be bothered to include the multiplayer text chat in it, making a successful game through public matchmaking nigh on impossible. That leaves the Multiplayer. It's good, but even nearly 8 months after release, it's still riddled with bugs and exploits. Expect random connection drops, copious amount of lag, and crashes. That said, the game - in essence - is pretty fun, but it's the lack of effort on the part of the developers to make the game robust that drops the score in my opinion. There's also the completely unnecessary origin platform, which does, quite frankly, **** all besides increase the time it takes to get into a game, and if its servers are down for maintenance or whatever (occurred twice in the 5 days that I've been playing) you cannot log in to origin, or, if you're already on battlelog, join any server. Another thing that really annoys me is Battlelog - why they couldn't have just put it inside the game client is beyond me, as to switch to another server, you have to first quit the game, then find a server in battlelog, then run up the game, which in all takes 2-3 minutes, whereas on bad company 2 or BF2, you could be back in a game in under a minute. There's currently a poll on Battlelog (DICE's **** excuse for a server browser/stat tracker) asking what users are most excited for: some of the 'DLC' (glorified map packs) or the next patch. The next patch is winning by a long way, which goes to show how fed up people are of playing a game that isn't actually finished and to a standard at which it's easy to enjoy. When it does work, it's really fun, especially if you get into a squad that works together, and the unlocking system is pretty fun too, rewarding you for using certain weapons a lot.
All in all, could've been fantastic, but seems rushed and not up to DICE's standard. It's certainly not worth the £40 Origin is asking for, and the B2K DLC is probably only worth £5. I only bought this game because Origin gave me a £10 off voucher, and to be honest, I'd rather have just taken the £10.

It just feels like you are doing the same thing as the last level, just advancing towards a goal doing nothing too entertaining along the way and killing enemies blocking you. More than anything campaign just seems to be training for multiplayer.

Multiplayer, while it has some cool maps, it isn't as fun as the beta was for some reason. Still, it is fairly entertaining.

Overall: It's a renter in my opinion.

It's just plain not ready to come out. They released the beta way too late, and didn't have enough time to fix any problems. Battlefield 3 is also about yourself, but you depend on your team for results as well. As an example of this, In Call of Duty, everyone goes their separate ways and try to ring up as many kills as possible during the round. In Battlefield 3, you head in all different directions, but somehow, you and your team always end up in an area that is a "choke point" where the members from the opposing team meets you and members on your team... and that's when the battle actually starts.

I've played all of the Call of Duty games from the original to Blops. I've also played every Battlefield game from 1942 to BF3. When I play Call of Duty, I play a few rounds, I get bored, and I go do something else. With Battlefield, I play a few rounds... and then I play a few more rounds... and if I still have time, I may go find another server and play some more. The element that sells it for me in Battlefield is the "Teamwork" aspect, and Battlefield 3 checks, circles, and underlines that box.

So why is Battlefield 3 so much better? Visuals, Audio, well designed maps, very well planned unlocks, and a sense of realism that has never been there in other Battlefield or CoD games are all present in BF3. I keep coming back for more because the game is satisfying in a way that no other FPS game has ever been for me. The multiplayer experience is second to none. Just be warned... if you're looking for a quick blast with an SMG and expect to get tons of points from run-and-gun tactics, Battlefield 3 is NOT for you. Patience and accuracy is rewarded. Reckless actions are met with failure 9 out of 10 times.

Really decide what you like about FPS games. If you like running around with a quick trigger finger, go play Blops or MW3. If you like careful tactics and team work, BF3 will do it for you easily.

As I started playing this game at 3am Tuesday morning, it dawned on me that the graphics style is about what you would get if you crossed Battlefield 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2, with just a sprinkle of Modern Warfare 2. It's cartoonish and realistic at the same time, and they've done a superb job blending the two. The graphics are top knotch. As for the audio, I've been playing mine on the "Home Theater" setting, and it's been superb. The sound effects are as good as, if not better than, the graphics, and the graphics are better than anything I've seen yet, so that tells you something. Like Bad Company 2, the sound really immerses you in the battlefield, to the point that you even hear the plane shaking as you take off and your landing gear retracts. You hear your boots over the dirt ground as you run.

The gameplay though, is really the bread and butter of any good game. Battlefield 3 gameplay is just as good as the graphics. The flaws I will point out are largely minor and based somewhat on personal preference. But first, the pros. Hereagain, the game has blended Battlefield 2 and Bad Company 2 to make for an excellent feeling game. They've dramatically increased the unlocks available(think Modern Warfare 2 multi-player) and your ability to customize your kits. Vehicles can also be customized, and your customizations are specific to each vehicle class meaning you select options for tanks, options for AA vehicles, options for jets, attack choppers, light choppers, etc etc. Vehicle handling is much better than in Bad Company 2, though I honestly believe they were as close to perfect in Battlefield 2 as I've experienced yet. They have redone vehicle handling to be much like Battlefield 2, meaning if you were familiar with using vehicles in that game, you're pretty much good to go after a small warm-up period in BF3. One interesting feature of the game is that you only start the game with your machine gun as your primary weapon on the jet. You must unlock further upgrades. They have also brought back the prone position, but have added a roughly 2 second delay as you get up off the ground from prone meaning you won't be seeing any bunny hopping shenanigans. Those of you worrying about snipers in prone will be happy to know that EA has dealt with the "camper" problem with sun glare from the optics of rifles.

The downsides as I see them are few and far between. My first caveat, is the ability to pin the mini-map so that north is always "up". Currently, your mini-map rotates as you turn which I find to be extremely confusing when trying to learn the maps. I'm never fully sure which direction to travel in. This was an option available in the previous Battlefield games and I'm not entirely sure why EA saw fit to leave it out of BF3. Another caveat is that, much like Bad Company 2, you only have one mouse sensitivity setting. I much preferred Battlefield 2 where you could set the sensitivity for your soldier, and then a unique one for each of the vehicle classes(jet, chopper, land, sea). Another minor issue is the way you select where to spawn. Instead of being able to click on the map and select a flag or squad member to spawn on, you have to select them by name to the left of the map. When the map is cluttered, or a lot of squad members are concentrated in one area, it can be a little confusing to figure out exactly where you are going to spawn. The biggest caveat of all though, is that you have to use Origin and the Battlelog just to play the game. I detest that EA makes you use Origin to play and then sells your information to third parties.

All-in-all, this game does not disappoint. I've had tons of fun playing it and I know I will continue to do so well into the future. Even at a $60 pricetag, it's well worth the money.

So in details I would say that in modern times the singleplayer of a multiplayer focused game like Battlefield is something nobody really cares about and so I think its not that big a deal like everyone of those Bad reviews is trying to make it. Admittedly it is a cheap story and you can play it in about 4 to 5 hours at the most but I enjoyed it and it really is the perfect time filler for the first day when the activation servers are down :p. The Multiplayer on the other hand is really great. I played no BF before this one but I played various other FPS games like COD4 or CSS online and I have to say the combination of great graphics and massive action is unmatched. On a full 64 people server when you battle in a small town for 4 spots and every spot is a constant hot spot it's just loads of fun. At the beginning you enter the streets everything seems like normal, though empty town, but in the end of the round everything its just like some kind of bomb trashed everything. No house has its walls intact an everything is crashed, trees fell, cars exploded, etc. Ok, if you want to relax then you should not play BF3 with more than 20 People, but then on the other hand why not just play WoW or Second Life? I think one of the best things about BF3 is that you don't have to search for action because its almost everywhere. And you can choose which kind of Action you want. Driving with a tank in the middle or chilling on a hill with a sniper rifle? It can be done and its both extreme fun.
I played an engineer for most of the time and I think thats the hottest class. You take your rocket launcher and fire at the nearest tank (or you just shoot your enemy in the face, he won't like it :)). There are also fueltanks everywhere that just wait to explode in huge fireballs when you shoot at them ;]
I recommend you just buy the game, go online, take the engineer's rocket launcher and shoot at the nearest house right in front of you and just see what happens. Then you're hooked.

The Coop is a nice addition if you have a good friend you can play with. However, its the multiplayer thats unleashes the true Battlefield feeling like you never experienced before. The atmosphere on a 64 player multiplayer map like Caspian Border (my favorite) or Gulf of Oman (one of the maps in the B2K addon) is just indescribable and a experience you shouldnt miss when bullets fizz over your head, tanks causing mayhem and epic jet dogfights in the air. What I personally miss are the shouts from the soldiers that you had in Bad Company 2. The motivation to keep playing is very high, there is a bunch of weapons, attachments, class specific equipment and perks to unlock. Weapons can be modified in every way and depending on the situation you can build your AK rifle to an deadly close range weapon with an reflex sight and silencer or to an sniper rifle with an 8x scope and an muzzle break. But be careful when you attach a laser pointer or the taclight as they compromise your position from a very far distance making you to dog food for every sniper. The classes are well balanced except the sniper which has a curious bug with the MAV drone as he can use it as an elevator to reach higher positions ;-)
The assault class has become the medic but seems to perish on large and widely open conquest maps again the engineer is the most powerful class on this maps as he can take on easily enemy tanks and jets/ helicopters. There are still some major bugs and it very annoying when you drive with a tank over small stones it gets very bumby making it impossible to shoot precisely. Also there are situations where enemies can spawn right behind you. But the real thread comes from hackers, cheaters that push unnoticeable their stats and also, can hack your account. Yes, last week there has been an hacker attack on Punkbuster where hundreds of players were banned, including me. The case was solved 3 days later when a new Punkbuster update was released. Origin is nothing more than EA trying to keep up with the big successor of digital distributed games, Steam. But the biggest fail goes to Battlelog. Battlefield 3 has no title screen. If you launch the game you get to the Battlelog site in your webbroser. You could say its the Facebook of Battlefield. Friends can comment on your stats, unlocks and whatever. There are way to many stats that are useless and it has also a forum that tends to close threads to quickly and make everyone muzzle who says something against EA/ DICE. Also the staff and users tend to be very arrogant if you're not a pro.

So why no 10 for Battlefield 3? One of the biggest problems in this game is that the actual Battlefield is absolutely not clear, that said, there are no clear frontlines, everyone is just everywhere and it reminds more of a chaotic battle from WW2 than a modern warfare battle. It keeps just happening that you think the coast is clear and suddenly someone will shoot you from behind, by the way if you play infantry 90% of your deaths will be from people that shot you in the back ;-)

But if you play with good teammates that are watching your back, it can be an unique experience!

This is the best FPS I have played since Modern Warfare came out. It isnt perfect, the single player is so so. However, just in the last 2 days there have been SO MANY EPIC MOMENTS in multi-player. Love it!!

Single player aside, DICE came through with the MP. It is amusing to see so many zero reviews. I suppose that the MW3 fanboys have nothing better to do right now, as I am sure the the new trailer has already become a bore.

Battlefield 3 is the best FPS to come out in a long time. Its good to see at least some company's want push the genre forward and Dice is doing just that. Their are lots of vehicles to choose from including tanks jets and helicopters. The servers have some lag issues and there is a hit detection problem but the game its self is so top notch and addicting that I am fine waiting on a patch. One last thing I would like to mention is the stealth kills with the knife THEY ARE **** EPIC! and include things like driving your blade into a enemys chest grabbing their dogtags and booting their legs out from under them. If you like first person shooters you will love BF3 dont wait any longer get it! Expand

Unlike most people, I waited until after completing the campaign and singleplayer while also ranking 15 levels in multiplayer before posting this review. Let's start with the singleplayer. Let's start with the singleplayer. Remind you of Black Ops? Well it didn't remind me of it. That doesn't mean it was any more entertaining though. You spend the first two-thirds of the campaign on boring, linear, on-rails missions that lack any creativity or interest. The only good thing about these missions are the graphics. I was mildly amazed with them. However, if you can grudge past the first two-thirds, you arrive to a nicely thought out and interesting portion of the campaign that I thoroughly enjoyed. To name other issues, I disliked the AIs ability to instantly knife you if you went with 5 feet of them. No, I hated that. Then, I seriously disliked how the only jet mission was a on-rails shooter of boredom. While the plot might have been similar to Black Ops, I felt no connection between the two, which was refreshing since all I heard was talk about how similar it was to Black Ops. I also mildly disliked the quick time events. Why? Well for one, they didn't give me the impression like I was actually there struggling with another person. Another why? The action was slow and when you took hits, typically, the screen slowly turned sideways (no concussive effect to immerse you). The could have improved those QTEs by moving the indicators a little higher on the screen so they are clear and evident. As it is now, if you attempt to immerse yourself in the fight, you miss a key press and watch yourself get killed. That ends my singleplayer review, I would give it a 7/10 as it was mostly boring and linear, so it lacked replayability. However, it was a nice graphical showcase and the ending was pretty good.

Now for the multiplayer portion. As all the fanboys claim, "This is what Battlefield is about!" and they are right. The game really shines (when the servers aren't down, which isn't common luckily) here. The infantry/vehicles are well balanced (except for the helicopters) and the gameplay flows smoothly. You have plenty of unlockables and gamemodes/maps to keep you entertained for quite a while too. Now to the helicopters or should I say blimps. Why(I'm tired of this word)? Well, it isn't that they are particularly slow or weak, it is just that there are so many threats for them that they can't be used effectively. Every engineer with an RPG/Stinger, every vehicle that shoots, jets, other helicopters, and AA are all very strong against helicopters. So, while you attempt to make your first attack, you almost always have a lock on you from an engineer, almost always are being shot at by some MG, and a jet is almost always about to fire a missile or shoot you. I have seen some excellent helicopter pilots, but they never last longer than a minute or two. The best helicopters are the ones like the VENOM (I think) where infantry use mounted miniguns to fire from the sides while engineers repair it from the inside. The other main issue I have with the multipayer (beside the occasional bug) is the lack of a piloting tutorial for helicopters and jets. While there is a co-op mission that allows you to pilot a helicopter, you risk wasting someone's time. I would have implemented a map similar to Coral Sea where all players can fly jets and dogfight to their hearts content. Overall, the multiplayer gameplay is extremely fun and should keep anyone interested for at least a few months (Probably around the release of Back to Karkand). I give the multiplayer a score of 10/10 due to very few problems and extremely fun gameplay that has great replayability. I weigh out the two scores 66% multiplayer 33% singleplayer and reach my score of 9.

It's all a matter of taste, after all. They each provide a certain type of entertainment – when talking about Battlefield 3, it involves a bigger game, more open in its possibilities and more spectacular. But on a longer timeline, less frantic and with fewer Bruce Willis scenes than the mass appeal beast it set itself to dethrone.

No, Battlefield 3 is not the best game of today. But good looking – definitely. It also has an absolutely addictive multiplayer. Who needs more? [Dec 2011]

Both a triumphant leap forward and a return to form for the Battlefield series. This is the best multiplayer shooter on PC. [Christmas 2011, p.58]
