Trolls are retarded. This game rocks. Graphics are the best I've ever seen on a PC game. DICE managed to make Battlefield 3 feel fresh and it doesn't feel like a Bad Company 3 at all. The sound is also the best you can get out there.

This definetly is the best online FPS I´ve ever played! Awesome graphics and even more awesome gameplay! Of course the single player is not as good as the multiplayer part of the game, but it isn´t bad though. Definetly worth buying!!

I am igoring the single player completely here as it is not really very much fun at all. Expand

Firstly i'm a vet of a the battlefield series all the way from the demo of 1942 and have played every game since apart from 2142 because i'm not into future shooters and 1943/bc1 as they were console games and i don't play FPS on console. This game is extremely good in pretty much every point for a FPS (yes see how i mentioned FPS it's not a RPG so stop QQing it's not Shakespeare tbh I prefer this to other fps stories), awesome weapons/ animations/ lighting/ audio (which needs a special mention because its only non horror game thats made me literally duck in rl) and general movement of the player (which before BF3 had always has been better in the call of duty series,no hate please). Also the awesome new mechanic that they have brought to the FPS series, "suppression" which makes it a better shooter than most because suppression actually makes players get down and flank and work together to destroy an enemy fortification rather than just spray at each other in till one of you are dead.
( I held the far right section in the second stage (Metro section) in the beta with m249 against about 7-8 players because they were suppressed and the only thing that stopped me was that i had to reload and retreat and thats just awesome)

Plus guys give battlelog a go. I literally can't see why people are hating on it apart from that its just a browser rather than a menu, it really doesn't matter. In fact this way is quicker this gets me in the game quicker than a menu. I don't have look at adverts or promos or menu screens it's literally firefox/battlelog quick match bang i'm in game in less than 30 seconds I'm not sure why that is a problem apart from it's different you're all just browser racists (LOL).

Several bugs plague this game like any other but the thing with DICE is that they will work on it (like they did BF2 and BC2) and make it a better experience rather than pretty much every other company (apart from say valve or blizzard) which will be just working on DLC now just rape you're wallets. The most fun I've had in an FPS since Cod4 ;)

Great game although the single player could have been longer but then when can it not be longer. The graphics where the best i have seen in a long time. The multiplayer is the best thing since Battle Field 2. Endless fun just like the the second version. And stop comparing it to MW3 a game which is not even out yet nor has had an open beta.

Much better than CoD... and I LOVE CoD. The graphics are great and so is the multiplayer. Despite a meager campaign, it is much more simple and doesnt have massive, gaping holes like in some CoD games, and doesn't get repetitive.

This IS the perfect shooter. Do not believe what the Cod-fanboys and braindead "BF-veterans" are saying. This IS perfection. It is hard to put to words how amazingly, astonoshingly awesome this game is, all i can say is: GREAT job Dice/EA, this IS superior to all other FPS-games. Buying COD instead of BF3 this season is the dumbest thing you can do.

Singleplayer isn't much to play. But that's not what BF is about anyway.

Multiplayer is actually pretty decent, gameplay wise, once you get in a game. However, everything surrounding the gameplay is what drags the game down. -Battlelog is a decent idea, but it is not streamlined well enough for them to have used it this early. -Unlock progression is frustrating and many feel 'required'

-Unlock progression is frustrating and many feel 'required' in most situations.
-Many, many users have technical issues running the game (I am not one of them)
-Squading and maps are poorly implemented and lacking basic features.

The only real reason I'm even giving this game a 5 in it's current state is because it is actually quite fun after you unlock a few things and are actually in the game playing. It's too bad DICE tried to re-make the game from the ground up the way they did. They dropped the ball pretty hard on many fronts.

Things like Offline multiplayer- I loved to go and practice flying jets and helicopters offline in BF2 but Offline multiplayer has been taken away and replaced with a crappy singleplayer. Also when i finally played it online, Voice chat within squads has been taken away. I believe you have to go download a program for teamspeak. I dont believe you should have to do that, You should just join a squad and be able to talk to them or mute them. Last, the Commander Position has been taken away. That was my favorite position because you could really help out your team. Give squad orders, drop ammo to a squad so they can resupply, Give that lone wolf a vehicle drop when he's stuck out in middle of nowhere. I did those things and whenever i did it, it was a great feeling whenever i heard "Thanks Champ" from the squad leader. That has been taken away. The Graphics, Sound, and Gameplay are great, but Some things shouldnt be taken away. ((Also, I believe EA pressured Dice with this product for competing with COD. DICE should break all ties With EA)) Expand

Solid game. You'll find that most of the low ratings that bring the overall score of this game down will be because of the following - Singleplayer, Battelog, Origin, or user errors (IE: Compatibility problems, inadequate hardware, etc...). Singleplayer - I never play Single-Player personally and know most of my fellow PC gamers choose MP over SP. I don't know why anyone would pay $60 toSolid game. I don't know why anyone would pay $60 to play a static pre-defined plot for a day when there is a robust and dynamic MP option. BF3 is all about MP anyways and probably would have been better off without SP like BF2. There rating would be higher if this were the case.

Battlelog - I dislike this as well. The only reasoning I can see for this is either a development obstacle without ample time to overcome or because they thought it would be a good idea to "integrate" the stats and what-not with the game-browser. I think integration is a great idea but it's not really integration if you are relying on another program, or middle-man. In either case, it's bearable and probably will just take some getting used to. Not so much of a hindrance, more-so a head-scratcher. Origin - While it may seem to make sense to bash Origin and BF3 for using it over Steam or a stand-alone install, it's important to understand the reasoning behind this rather than bashing BF3 out of ignorance. Do your research first...

User-Errors - It's absolutely ridiculous how users will rate a game, or anything for that matter, bad when they haven't actually played the game or have a personal local issue that interferes with their ability to play correctly. 90% of the time it's not the game itself that's at fault. The remaining 10% of issues are typically dealt with through updates/patches but even still I view it unfair to rate a game poorly until such time as you've actually played the game. I recommend dismissing any reviews like this and strongly encourage anyone reading this to avoid following this trend as well. With that said, I've only had issues with this game when trying to install it through Origin. This was the same issue I had in Alpha and Beta though and it was an OS problem, not the game (Setup a fresh partition and was set). I've played without any kind of issues at all since launch. The game is truly revolutionary.

My only complaints with the game are - Stuck at a stat overview of your killer when you die for a few seconds, can't customize your loadout between rounds, there isn't any in-depth weapon stats or way to view future upgrades in game (Only can see your next upgrade), and the RPG impact to a vehicle looks odd and doesn't seem to do as much as you'd expect (Leading to RPGs being used on Infantry more).

Overall, despite some minor complaints and excluding SP, I think this game is fantastic and give it a 10 out of 10 accordingly. I'm sure over the next few months as updates are pushed some of those minor complaints will be eliminated as well. You don't need a hard-core gaming system to run this either - Only if you want to run everything on the highest settings. You can easily play this game on low or even medium with quad-core system with a decent video card (Something made within the past 2 years with at LEAST 512MB GPU DRAM).

It's just furiating to play, people are more concerned with KD ratios and kills, as opposed to team based play. The fact is it's neither, it's definitely not the best game ever with a singleplayer that's boring and forgettable after the first few missions (but then again, I was more itching to play multiplayer) and even the multiplayer had a few hiccups on day one with the occasional rubberband lag popping up here and there. However to say this game is so bad it deserved a ZERO, you either have to hate first person shooters or be a complete CoD fanboy. This is why user ratings are becoming useless especially since those 0 scores only encouraging Battlefield fanboys to instantly put a 10 to "balance" the score out. //////////////// As for my score of 8, I took a point away because the singleplayer was weak and the online multiplayer despite a alpha, beta, and launches in the past with the same rubberband lag still had issues on day one. Another point was lost because the destruction actually feels a step back from Bad Company 2 and overall this game actually feels more like a sequel to that game instead of a a true sequel to Battlefield 2. Battlefield 3, in a plethora of amazing modern shooters, this one stands out, with a host of new and beneficial features that include; Suppressive fire, scope glint and improved vehicular combat along with the tried and tested class system of the battlefield series this is the one to buy.

Battlefield 3 takes on a more tactical role compared to most modern day shooters in its multiplayer. the class based system improves teamwork, with the assault, support, engineer and Recon classes.
The assault can drop medpacks and heal his teammates. The support, along with his bulky machine gun gives out ammo, and the engineer can repair friendly vehicles and take out enemies with his rocket launcher. The recon can set spawn points for his whole team and take on enemies from longer distances.
This improves teamwork, even the most dumb witted player, from games that do not rely on team work can simply press a button and teamwork is done, but this is in no way dumbed down. The unlock system is extensive, with attachments for each gun ,and gadgets to unlock along the way, such as C4. the all-class weapons add versatility to any class. 3/3

Co-Op; Battlefield 3 introduces Co-op mode, where 2 or more players can take on enemies in a predetermined setting. this is great for teamwork, and also unlocks guns for multiplayer, this is easily the most overlooked feature of the game, but is a great addition, and adds a new mode, only seen in Bad company 2 via Onslaught mode. Disappointingly though, the class system is not available in co-op.

    2.5/3

    Campaign:
The campaign is not a long one, but is chock full of amazing moments that make you gasp in awe, although short, this game is truly stunning through its visceral and Immersive campaign, you can feel the characters need, you can feel their desire. but alas, it ends too soon

    2.5/3

    Graphics/audio/animations.
i have, controversially, only given this mark out of one, why? because game play is the most important thing in a shooter, but, one cannot fault battlefield 3's graphics, although one can say it is very high contrast, the game is, stunning to say the least, with destruction making a comeback from Bad company .The buildings toppling all around you adds to the immersion, and the graphical quality of the buildings is amazing. the sound is battlefield, it sounds like real guns, and the whizzing bullets feel so real, you truly do not want to stand up with bullets over your head. the animations are good and sturdy, and the reloading has "weight to it"

    1/1

    TOTAL: 9/10

The game play is great! it feels like you are in an actual battle especially on dark maps when you can see the bullets flying past you. The sounds are immaculate, put on some good quality headphones and take off in a jet and you'll know what im talking about. The single player seemed to excel where Bad company 2 did poorly but did poorly where bad company 2 excelled if that makes any sense. In Bad company 2, you knew the characters from the cut scenes and knew exactly what was going on but the story line was shallow and cliche. Bf3's story line was deeper and had a twist but the characters were under developed and i felt no sadness when two of my "best friends" died or when i had to kill my commanding officer. I felt like the damage of weapons was a little higher than BC2, but other than that it's mostly the same gameplay. If you've not played Battlefield before, I'd still recommend this game. Keep in mind that it is not Call of Duty, so don't expect it to be like CoD. If anything, I'd say it's in between CounterStrike and Call of Duty.

The singleplayer is not that great and it is comparable to COD in aspects of linearity and blockbuster type action and yet I'd say superior writing and atmosphere. CO-OP is a bit better with 6 missions that are pretty fun with a friend.

What it shines with is multiplayer. You just don't find a shooter with team orientated framework built into its design anymore with the last one I remember being Team Fortress 2, although it's not that heavy. It's balanced and skillful with deep weapon progression and long term investments in unlocking new gear and ranks. Vehicles are an important force and staple on the field, but not instant death machines and they also require some work to use properly. You can be 4 different classes and all of them have helpful items for your team and you play in squads and feel part of a unit instead of people in a map killing each other.

I love Battlefield and the unique experiences it offers in a sea of modern shooting games. You just won't find anything else like it unless you like simulators like ARMA.

I can't think of a way to finish this, but I really recommend picking it up.

SP is average, with a mix of brilliant and subpar moments, but MP is a worthy successor to the Battlefield franchise.

Singleplayer is a decent experience. You play Sgt. Blackburn, whose name is satisfyingly on the fence between "Normal name" and "Awesome action name." The story is a somewhat garbled mess, as Alex Mason - er, Sgt. Blackburn - is debriefed by CIA-affiliate agents as to his knowledge about an impending nuclear terrorist attack. From what I piece together, the story is somewhat decently written, but the method of delivery is on a pendulum between perfect and god-awful storytelling. There are moments, such as the death of a certain character (no spoilers), where your brief experience with him/her causes a gut-wrenching scene that gives nice depth to the story, and there are other moments where you can't help but sit back and say "The hell?" As for singleplayer mechanics, Dice seems to be better at graphics and voice acting than level design and AI. Especially on harder difficulties, there are many, MANY instances of controller-smashing rage in the face of stupid difficulty - remember the PKM from Battlefield 2? Apparently, every machine gunner in the PLR uses it, and spites you by dropping normal weapons that have, you know, recoil. Your allied AI is impressive in certain scenes, but annoying in most firefights - in many places, they seem to have scripted cover locations that push you out of an already precarious position, and even then they suffer from Mook syndrome and can barely do anything. Granted, they are somewhat efficient at shooting the enemy, if you can trigger them to move up. Enemy AI is decent, using logical cover and shooting mechanics, but they too suffer from artificial stupidity and uncanny accuracy.

Graphics are bar none - Frostbite 2 seems to specialize in being a lighting-heavy engine, with shading and flashes going off in a spectacular display. To be clear - at one point, I stopped shooting and just panned around the city, because it looked so damn good - I don't even have an HDTV! I can't *imagine* what the PC rigs are getting, if consoles have the *minimum* PC graphic level.

MP is fun, though I haven't had much time with it. From the 3 games I have played, it's a great experience - the battle feels chaotic and like a warzone, not like a Quake arena match. Vehicles are adequately balanced, lending an "OH **** factor to infantry on the ground while not being too overpowered as to be unstoppable. Same goes for weapons, with DICE's particular brand of balancing - each weapon you unlock has its own flavor of advantages, aesthetics, and drawbacks. The balancing is no more apparent than in the attachments for weapons - each has a legitimate use, there are no "useless" attachments that no one will ever use.

Complaint, though - WHY NO TEAM CHAT, DICE?!? Overall, fun, well polished game. SP is average, but MP is a fun experience that plays like a war.

You have to change your settings in-game and you have to exit the program in order to change servers. There's no LAN, no in-game VOIP, no Commo Rose, no in-game server browser and it uses Punkbuster. Whenever I try to play multiplayer I feel like I'm playing some kinda mediocre F2P game from some **** company like Nexon instead of a developer as prestigious as DICE.

Though the gameplay can be fun, it's just ruined by the worst online platform ever conceived. (No, seriously. **** Origin.)

So, the multilayer is a flop, but it should have a good singleplayer to make up for the terrible server browsers, right? Well, it doesn't. It looks pretty when you watch someone else play it, but playing it for yourself is a totally different story. The reason BC2 was so great is because it felt like a sandbox game instead of the typical on-rails minecart-bound shooter that everyone's grown so bored of. Now, I knew that DICE was going to make BF3 less Sandboxy, but I never expected them to make a shooter even more linear than Call of Duty. In fact, one of the missions in the campaign puts you in the **** of a fighter jet. Now, you think you'd be able to fly this **** but you can't. You sit in the co-pilot seat and shoot other planes while your partner does the flying for you.

The gameplay can be fun at times, but most of the time this game just gave me a headache. And I was constantly bothered by how much plot material they stole from Black Ops. I mean, come on. A soldier having flashbacks while being interrogated by a pair of government agents who accuse him of conspiring with a Russian special operative, all the while America is on the brink of armageddon? Does this ring a bell?

And you know what, the pieces of storyline that they didn't steal from BlOps are dull as all hell. This game's storyline's one of the the most boring and unsubstantial things I've ever had to sit through in my whole life.

There is no need for the stupid quicktime sequences either. I counted, you push two buttons per scene on average. You might as well just take them out of the game, because all they did was make me laugh at such a meager attempt to create an interactive cutscene.

All in all, this game feels rushed, and nowhere is it more evident than in the glitches. Sometimes bodies turn weightless and float in midair, there's severe clipping issues and though I'm not reviewing the console versions, it's safe to say that I've played them too, and the graphics are **** Like, worse than BC2. I don't really know how that's possible.

If you're looking for a unique shooter experience, you won't find it here. This game is just another crappy, dull, boring, repetitive, uninspired military shooter with nothing more to it's name than it's shiny graphics and bull**** destruction engine. It just doesn't live up to Bad Company 2. Sorry.

Origin isn't as bad as everyone wants it to be, but it really isn't a step forward either. Launching from a web browser does not improve ANYTHING. Alt tabbing in games has always been a shaky deal, and having all your stats outside the game means you either play window mode, or wait until you're done playing to have a look at what's coming up for whatever gun you're using and so forth. It still feels like a battlefield game, with a nice blend of the features of Battlefield 2 and Bad Company. Unlocking gadgets and weapons is a nice draw, but I do have a problem with how much of a hassle it is to change your kits. It can only be done in-game . You'd think after making us put up with a that pointless webbased interface in battlelog, they'd at least let you use it to customize your loadout, but no. If you die, you get an unskippable view of your killer, before you get 3 seconds to decide where you want to spawn and what your loadout will be. And if you want to change your scope, you need to go through 5 different menus, while the game goes on without you. And in general, Origin and Battlelog are just a pain to deal with compared with the in game server browser from previous games. It adds no value for the player, so I can only assume it's used for EA's sake.

The coop missions are decent, but there's too few of them, they get pretty predictable, and they really don't make enough use of the fact that the game has a good vehicle system. There's only one coop mission where you get to fly an attack helicopter, and you don't even get to fight other helicopters, just some ground units that pose only a small threat. Why there isn't a mission where one player provides air support in a fighter or scout chopper with miniguns while the other player calls targets and clears indoor areas, or one drives a tank and the other an APC or AA vehicle, or one drives a humvee while the other one takes the machine gun, I don't know. I hope EA makes a few more missions that play to Battlefield's strengths, instead of featuring corridor-shootouts with little more teamplay beyond picking your co-op partner of the ground if he gets shot.. I generally love co-op levels, but here they're just acceptable, when all the tools to make them great are already in the game.

The singleplayer campaign is worse though. The story is a pitfull rehash of Modern Warfare's, the areas look nice but are all pretty linear, the gunplay is acceptable but nothing special, and again the game does almost nothing with the fact that the game already features many fully simulated and controlable vehicles. The tank levels are about the only ones make a little bit of use of the capabilities of the game. The fighter-jet level is pathetic though. It's just an on-rails section as the copilot, and since you shoot guided missiles it isn't even a fun on-rails section, followed by a less intense ripoff of the gunship level from MW1 where you point at targets on the ground for other planes to shoot. Why they put actual time into programming the controls for this section when they could've let you fly a plane yourself with the same controls as in multiplayer baffles me. In summary, good multiplayer (though not many features previous games didn't already have), nice graphics, poor single player, average co-op, and annoying features (Origin & Battlelog) that are of more value to EA than their customers.

Excellent Game, they did just about everything right with BF3. The formula is in a really good place and there were some very smart decisions made. Amazing graphics and character animates as well. I can only imagine what could have been for the PC if they didn't have to refocus to get the console version out on time.

He mentioned nothing about the customers who don't receive any support, but they do receive an unpolished product. Haven't the gamers had enough already? This is how gamers lost the "right" for a properly released game, long time ago. Now, we're gonna lose the right even for after-sale support. They just release games with hundreds of bugs and glitches, and nothing is going on! I won't even mention about the horrible Single Player part of the game. Generally unacceptable and hence the negative rating. I'm trying to objective and wish the best for us, the gamers. I didn't pay for "premium" cause I thought, that way I'd support their model. This game is an outstanding successor to previous Battlefield games. Perfect combat mechanics, and the intensity of immersion within the battlefield environment is unreal in both singleplayer and multiplayer. The only downfall is Origin, while the game itself is a beauty of an FPS.

The graphics are gorgeous, but a little contrasty to my taste. I find it really hard to pick people out of the shadows. It's like it's 12:00 at the equator every match - the flare from the sun is intense and the shadows are hard. I think DICE is trying to show off their lighting engine a bit too much - sometimes less is more! The game needs some TLC - managing squads is more cumbersome than it needs to be, the minimap is worse than BF2, the servers are still crashing a lot, there are no reserved slots, etc. But I am confident that with time, DICE will refine this into the best FPS to date.

Everything about this game is of high quality, the weapons are modeled with laser precision as the Developers had access and personal experience with each of the weapons featured in the game. Developed under the watchful, experienced eye of Soldiers/Experts from both the US Military and the British SAS. With a heart-stopping Single-Player campaign written by Andy McNab, an SAS Operative and War Hero. The multiplayer is completely innovative, with the most realistic destruction ever seen in a video-game. With nearly 100 different vehicles to pilot and drive, the action is never ending, yet subtle at the same time.

The weaponry and unlocks in the game are endless, with a calculated 100 hours to fully level up a single class, one of four. The multiplayer in this game is top-notch, and unrivaled by its competitor, Call of Duty. Realistic, epic 64 player battles, and the winner of over 60 Industry awards. Battlefield 3 has won numerous Game of the Year awards already, and shows no signs of slowing down.

Dice has been widely known for innovation and top-quality multiplayer, and this is where they step their reputation up even further. A deep single-player campaign that really makes you feel the emotions of a soldier on the front lines, fighting for his country in the midst of destruction and the reality of death. Coupled with an award winning industrial soundtrack, giving the game a unique distinction from the rest of the FPS crowd. When you listen to the music in Battlefield 3, you can really feel what Sgt. Blackburn is feeling as he fights for his life, and his brothers against the PLR.

An industry leader in sound design, Dice has taken 7.1 Surround Sound to its fullest potential. The chaos of the battlefield, the sound of concrete and rubble, the deep bellowing gunshots exchanged by the US Military and the PLR, the loud, low growl of an M1 Tank's Powerful engines scored with the deep, unique emotional soundtrack. I'll say this right here, as the most innovative shooter this year, and for the decade to come, Battlefield 3 will always remain unmatched. This is not only the Shooter of the Year, but also a powerful contender for Game of The Year.

Battlefield 3 is a full two generations ahead of its competitor, Call of Duty, and as Activision struggles to keep up with the quality of EA's products, that won't change anytime soon.

Battlefield 3 is a PERFECT 10 out of 10, and let no one tell you otherwise.

Battlefield 3... The winner of over 60 Industry Awards, and the shooter of the year, still unrivaled since (Battlefield) 1942.

The graphics are fantastic and near life-like with destructible environments. While I can get knifed like everyone else and hammered from an m249 in the blink of an eye, I don't feel the frustration - it makes me be more cautious at times to support my squad. But then it started to show how much they really put into it. It's a bad port. Controls revert to defaults mid game, in cutscenes, in quick time events. I HATE quick events. HATE!!! When I mapped my keys to arrows, right shift, right control and mouse and you ask me to quickly press "E", I am going to miss it. Again. And again, And again.

Here's the thing. If you make me mash the keyboard in anger, you are not a fun game. Period. I don't care you threw in a SP just to make a dent. If you wouldn't have, I would never have picked it up. I want single player to see the game, then, if all is right, I go on multiplayer. And SP is a disappointment. Unfinished story, annoying characters, tons of names, what is this? I died 4 times in the story. Who am I? Why am I fighting? Am I Miller? Jim? Bob? Jim-Bob? I'm Jim-Bob, aren't I? Dear God, I'm Jim-Bob.

The Russian guy said to shoot the other guy and all I thought was "Ok. Who's he?" Then other people start screaming. "Go left". Who are they? Seriously, I need a notepad to keep up. Also, they give bad advice. I died doing what they said. Also, what is this "left mission area" stuff? You sent me to flank and the side of the road is off-limits? What am I, 7 again? I'm not allowed to the end of the driveway?

By the last mission, I died 3 times. In the last mission, I died maybe 20 times. Poor scripting, poor controls, someone simply could not be bothered to finish it.

And I don't agree that you are a multiplayer game so I should eat the SP and shut up. You used that as a selling point and now it sucks. If you serve me a nice steak with moldy potatoes, I'm sending it back. I don't care the steak is the selling point.

I guess multiplayer is OK,which is why it gets a "barely" score. 8 for the MP, 5 for the SP, and a big fat zero for not taking the time to make sure CONTROLS WORK in a game.

Seriously, game has been out a year and a half. I STILL have to go to the forums to find a way to pass a 4 hour campaign. Can anything be any more of a middle finger to me giving you my money?

After seeing the awesome trailers, I was pumped for a game that gets away from the "arcade-like" shooters of cod and more into a realistic type battleground with teamwork and strategy. The graphics looked amazing in the trailers and this was pretty much the only game I have been looking forward to all year.

The game delivered the awesome visuals that it promised and, despite not normally being a "campaign guy", I found myself enjoying the campaign very much (despite the trite "Russians + nukes" plot that is so overplayed these days). The campaign did give a unique twist which I liked with the friendly fire shooting (those that have played it know what I'm talking about) and the Russian teaming up with you. That gave it a really awesome gritty feeling which most fps's don't really exude. The multiplayer is even better. Pretty much any size game (up to 64 players), map, vehicle choice, weapon choice, etc. Besides the annoying teammates that steal the aircraft and instantly crash them, I can't really find many faults with the game play. The game is downright fantastic. The visuals are the best that any video game has ever delivered and blowing up C4 or getting a long range head shot gives a much more satisfying feeling than COD has ever given me. Blowing up walls or buildings to kill those pesky campers is as satisfying as a video game can deliver.

That's the good part. As far as the game itself goes, it's excellent. The bad part of this game is virtually everything else. I bought this game on day one and only yesterday did I finish ironing out the issues to get it to run stably. I couldn't even get past the "Operation Guillotine" level until then (despite having a brand new ~$2,000 system). This game has been a nightmare to get to run properly and has come with loads of unwanted "extras".

Origin is basically a useless program that you have to install which does nothing for the gamer (in most circumstances). As far as I can tell, it's an extra program to get in between you and gaming that you have to load each time you want to play. It seems like Dice didn't want to deal with steam so they made a new one called Origin that nobody wanted but they did just so that when they come out with new maps, they can get more money (we'll have to wait and see on this theory as it's too early to tell).

Then you have to load a browser to play, even if all you're doing is campaign mode. So you have not one, not two but three programs running just to play a single player mission. Origin, browser, bf3. That's a hassle but whatever. Then there are posts going around the internet about Origin collecting your personal information and sending it back to EA. Even that doesn't really bother me as I don't really have anything on this new computer that is worth thinking about.

By far my biggest complaint about this game is the stability. Laughably horrendous isn't a strong enough term. When I first got it, the campaign froze up on me and crashed the whole thing countless times. There were times when I got to a specific spot on a level and it would crash until after trying it 5 to 10 times, I finally got through. That is until Operation Guillotine came around and I simply couldn't get through.

It turns out that any (or at least some) graphics cards that were overclocked by the manufacturer would cause all these issues. It took me a month or so to realize that little bit so I turned down the factory overclock and boom, it works. That is, after a motherboard bios flash as well. So here it is, about a month and three weeks later that I can finally play my game, crash free. That is with the graphics card slowed down. Oh and my temps never got above the 60's (degrees C) even while hours of gaming and other multi tasking but still, the game crashes if my clock speeds were set on the stock OC so it is clearly not a system problem but a game one.

This awesome game was almost completely ruined for me because of all the issues that it came along with. Thankfully I stuck with it and now I have an awesome game but as far as the rating goes, those issues will be costly as they should be. Dice will not have my support on their future endeavors if they keep jerking around the customers (even if their games are awesome).

Some other (relatively) minor gripes I have are: No native in game voice chat, the text box is annoyingly placed, huge and immovable (major suckyness), the required clock speed reduction for stock oc'd cards, Dice's lack of information about how to get it to run well, and all the things listed above.

In conclusion, the game is amazing. Get it to run right on your rig and you should love it. There isn't a better looking, better playing game out there. Everything else sucks. Origin, browser loads, stability, chat box, no in game voice chat, etc. Wait a while, then get it.

First let me say that I'm a huge fan of the Battlefield series. I didn't buy BF3 to stomp it. I'm also not giving up on the game just yet. But there are some gameplay dynamics that really have me frustrated.

1.) Weapon upgrades make it a frustrating grind for new players. The weapons for new players are so inferior that they don't really stand a chance against the better weaponry/accessories... let alone better weaponry/accessories wielded by someone with 100 hrs more playing time than you. BF2 BC had it right. There should be an incremental jump between default and unlocked weapons... better weapons should help you go from 10 -12 to 12-10. Not 4-14 to 14-4.

It makes tactics worthless because it takes 2-3 times longer to kill players with better weaponry. So even when you shoot them from the side or back, they have time to turn around and waste you no problem.

2.) Terrain physics. At first I was all for how it's difficult to see enemy players on the terrain compared to BF2 BC. Seemed way more realistic and tactical. Unfortunately, the ability to hide encourages lots of camping. Players are invisible in shadows and completely disappear in foliage. For a lot of players it means bush league tactics. Maybe this is my video card setup but I don't think so.

3.) Maps. The maps are super detailed. But the abundance of nooks encourage camping. The unbalanced weapons for new players compounds this like crazy.

4.) Mini map on hard core. This is also another killer of tactical game play. Why should you be smart about out tactical positioning when you can just look at the minimap and see where opponents pop up? Granted, I have access to the mini map too. I could use it. But I don't want to because it takes me out of the gameplay experience. In the past BFs I liked the fact that I could rank high because I played a smart game. Now the game just feels like a dumbed down run around like a chicken with your head cut off spray fest.

5.) Net code. I'm tired of shooting others 4 or 5 times and then dying when it seems like they shot me once. Or dying when I'm on the other side of an impenetrable barrier.

6.) At medium or long distance, BF2 BC rewards controlled bursts of fire. It really made the game play feel tight/smart. BF3 rewards going full auto all the time... especially with the upgraded weaponry where there is little to no recoil. This makes the game (namely HC mode) feel way less tactical. It cheapens it.

6.) Overall, the gameplay feels out of control compared to BF2 BC. It doesn't feel like a team mounting an attack on another team. Its a bunch of individuals running around on full auto killing other individuals with inferior weaponry. I know BF2 BC had it's flaws, but what it did as a whole was to create a sense of narrative in a battle. You could feel the eb an flow of the battles and because of that it often encouraged players to fight strategically even if they weren't intending to play as a team.

I would go back to BF2 BC if there new maps released on a semi-regular basis. As it is, the same old maps are growing old. Maybe it's time to pull some old FPS's out of the bin and see what they offer as far as smart tactical game play.

Amazing graphics, and the best environmental sound I have ever heard. The single player campaign shows off a lot of weapons and has a pretty cool story (though the big plot twist at the end makes no sense). The real meat of any Battlefield game however is the multiplayer, and DICE has had a long time to polish and perfect their formula. Battlelog is a website (basically Facebook for guns) that you are forced to go to every time you want to find a game. The server browser is a part of the web page, and it can't detect server Ping. So you just have to pick and guess with your servers (most of the time the lag is unplayable). On top of that the website takes forever to connect, load, and finally launch the actual game.exe which then proceeds to load some more. I felt like I spent more time looking for a playable game than actually playing. Expand

Game itself is an great looking and typical multiplayer, so don't expect any epic storyline in singleplayer - it's rather lazy tutorial. CoD's influence isn't the worst thing in this game, however it's absolutely not my taste. The annoyance is Battlelog, which makes me run internet browser to log in. What an brilliant idea... This game is simply amazing. Nice graphics, great sound, game-play is very entertaining. The mix of infantry and vehicles, the destruction engine, the squad system and the infantry classes create a nice gaming atmosphere. I can only thank DICE for making this game.

Played it on consoles and pc - this is next gen - now. Amazing amazing AMAZING!!! Avoid reading the COD trolls on here. You know this game rocks!! It wouldn't get 93 from critics if it wasn't the real deal. The graphics are so real, and the immersive gamplay is unparallelled. Buy this sucker now and start enjoying this unbelievable experience.

It's all a matter of taste, after all. They each provide a certain type of entertainment – when talking about Battlefield 3, it involves a bigger game, more open in its possibilities and more spectacular. But on a longer timeline, less frantic and with fewer Bruce Willis scenes than the mass appeal beast it set itself to dethrone.

No, Battlefield 3 is not the best game of today. But good looking – definitely. It also has an absolutely addictive multiplayer. Who needs more? [Dec 2011]

Both a triumphant leap forward and a return to form for the Battlefield series. This is the best multiplayer shooter on PC. [Christmas 2011, p.58]
