DICE did a great job with this game. I honestly thought it would be worse than BF2 what with the quicker deaths and the like, but this game exceeded my expectations with fun additions like jets and other little tweaks. Right, I've played every battlefield game since Bad Company 1. I'm a huge fan, its the only game where I feel like I am actually in a battlefield, it was intense, tactical, and I love how you have to work as a team. it was also simple it had everything it need to make it good. So far Battlefield 3 is a mess in my opinion. I get spawn killed at least 5 times every game, lasers torchlights are a joke my own team cause me more hardship when they use these than the enemy! There is no need for them. I dislike how much it takes to take down certain vehicles. It should take one tank shell to blow up a jeep. Not three. I always felt such satisfation taking out a jeep from across the map with a tank. Completely absent here, Prone was a bad idea, so many campers its ridiculous. When people go prone it looks like a dead body sometimes, its way over used. Bad company 2 had an easy to man loadout set up. Its just plain awkard and confusing here. I could talk all day about why I'm dissapointed with this game. They made the same mistake the call of duty franchise made, they are trying to do too much **** that isnt needed and just opens more ways for people to be cheap and ruin the game for everyone else. I hope something happens that changes my opinion of this. Maybe its just because its a new game and im not used to it yet I dont really know. So far though, im not impressed. Expand

Wow. What a let down. After all the hype and the hope, it can't hold a candle to BF2. I say BF2 and NOT BFBC2. Some seem to think Bad Company is BF1, Bad Company 2 is BF2, and BF3 is just BFBC3. To the latter, they're correct. Scoring: Points are rated above average (7) If the game improved on the average, it'll gain points, if it falls behind the average, it loses points.Wow. Sound ------> +3 ------ Excellent. By far the best part of the game.
Graphics ----> +1 ------ Really Good when on MAX, otherwise average.
Maps ---------> -1 ----- Poorly designed, lopsided crap.
Gameplay --> -2 ----- Bad. Bugs, glitches galore. Feels like a beta. BFBC1 & 2 had crappy multiplayer made for console gaming and those who haven't experienced a well balanced gameplay focused game... such as BF2. If you go from BFBC1 or 2 to this, you'll be happy. If you go from BF2 to this, you likely won't. On the bright side, there are some things that are better than BF2. The spotting is simply hitting Q on the enemy now. No more of this holding Q, putting it on the enemy, then releasing it. That was cumbersome. Pace ---------> -1 ------ Strangely a little to quick. Things happen unrealistically fast. Like in CoD Black Ops. Everything seems to happen at x1.5 speed. Helicopters take off too quickly. If you're shot down, you crash quickly. The movements are too sudden. It feels like a crappy churner of a console port.
Interface ----> -1 ----- Talk about trying to be all sleek and cool and fresh... and totally blowing it. Only being able to play the game with an internet browser window open? Really? Only being able to "search" (poorly) for servers in said browser window? Really? Who's terrible idea was that?

    Final Score --> 6

Summary: Excellent sound, great graphics, meh maps, bad gameplay, bad interface. Mostly steps backward.

Unfortunately, GAMEs are about GAMEplay. So, BF3 bombs. I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to the predictable vanilla whatever factor of MW3 (not the multiplayer, it has always sucked). At least they stick stick to what they're good at... I hope.

Advice for DICE. Take BF2, give it BF3 graphics and BF3 sound, and you'll have a guaranteed winner. You dropped the ball this time, but everyone gets a Danzig 5/mulligan I suppose. But really, I blame it all on EA, so keep on doing what you do... as long as it's without EA.

The game is intense beyond words and makes me feel like I am a part of the battle. That is just the single player campaign. The multiplayer on the other hand reinvents the term "brothers in arms." Every person on your team plays a crucial role of how the victor will come to be decided. However... the campaign is not at carefully crafted and during the cutscenes it was far too much like Call of Duty, Interrogation plays a big role in the cutscenes and Multiplayer is not as robust as it should be. It only offers a minimal variety of game modes from team deathmatch to capture the flag. That is why I am giving this game an 8 out of 10! Great but not a masterpiece! Expand

Astounding graphics and sounds. The BEST lighting effects I have EVER seen in a game. However, there are a few issues that are present in the game that I cannot possibly give this game any higher of a score. Origin is a terrible idea, and after just being forced to update it again today I have noticed that the EULA stipulates a legal clause that contractually denies both EA and individuals the right to a class-action suit and trial by a jury (basically removing the power multiple individual's have over it). I do not agree with such a disregard for the civil liberties of consumers and EA is a despicable company. Furthermore having PC users forced to use a web based server browser is idiotic. If I want to alter some hotkeys I need to join a server, spend time adjusting it and then quit. If I want to change servers I need to close Battlefield 3 and then re-open a new instance of it. This is the stupidest thing I have ever seen in the history of gaming. DICE have done a good job with stat tracking, and I am happy for it. The singleplayer is terrible and does not reflect the freedom and scope of the multiplayer at all, it feels (and IS) heavily scripted: i.e. a cinematic-press-spacebar-at-the-right-time. I cannot fathom why DICE implemented a singleplayer at all (oh wait, to compete with MW3). In my opinion if they had of left it out completely and focused on creating a real user interface for us PC gamers I would have rated this one of the better games of 2011. Multiplayer is definitely the best experience I've ever had in an FPS and is FORCES you to work together as a team to do well. The playerbase has gotten quite a bit better since release as it seems they have adjusted well to what BF3 is about (i.e. dissociating it from CoD, which means NOT running out into the open field to get hit by sniper fire and dropping bloody ammo/health packs). DICE tried to entice the competition's market to play their game and it backfired for the most part: this is because MW3 is a DIFFERENT FPS. MW3 is twitch based and individual level reliance, where-as Battlefield 3 relies heavily on STAYING WITH YOUR TEAM. Too many times have I seen CoD players complain about the game being 'too slow' or 'sucking' because they die too much. Well this is because it isn't about sprinting around small corridors killing a whole team by yourself, you must employ tactics and the aid of your team to play the objective. If you want an FPS game that forces you to think about players outside of your own self, and to pay more attention then this is the game for you. If you want run and gun action, with quick respawns and quick kills this is NOT the game for you. In fact, K/D wont get you to the top of the leaderboard. I've topped the leaderboard with K/D's under 1 because I played the objective AND my role. 7/10. If EA weren't scoundrels, DICE worked on an in-game browser and didn't include a SP this game would get a 9 from me. I hope that among the amount of drivel you read here on metacritic, you see this honest review from a person neither loyal to IW or DICE, but to what he likes to play. Please stop posting inflated and deflated review scores if you haven't even played the game because you're ruining the industry for those of us who just love to play the game; this is neither a 0, nor a 10, it is approximately 7- 8.5 in all honesty. Not better than Call of duty at all. In ways the game is a rip off from previous titles like MAG. People are always so quickly to bash COD, but realisticly COD has much more maps, content and fun factor than any BattleField game. Don't waste your money on this game.

Qualms about the odd 'everything and the kitchen sink' (non)privacy act in the Terms and Conditions aside, it gets in the way of the game. I dunno why DICE agreed to the Origin integration. Why is it even necessary? It isn't...on any level. What does it add to the game? Nothing...absolutely nothing. What does it promise in the future? EA's ability to target market you with precision...and possibly whatever else they would like to do with this information per their terms and conditions. Essentially BF3 is a vehicle for EA's pointless, Origin system, which is not so much a digital distribution platform for ease of the user base but an information gathering and marketing tool to make EA's life easier.

I don't think Origin is dangerous...I just think it's pointless and useless and irritating.

BF3 manages to provide some of the most enjoyable, awe-inspiring gameplay I have encountered in my 20-odd years of gaming. The single player campaign is a solid, fun game in it's own right; however all of the Battlefield franchise titles have centred around multiplayer, and (with that in mind) BF3 raises the bar and then some.

BF3 MP plays every bit as fast and frantic as the trailers would have you believe, and is graphically and aurally light years ahead of any other FPS on the market (or, indeed, the radar). Explosions, weapon recoil, smoke and supression effects (to name a few factors) all have a definite impact on the player, all down to developer DICE's much-vaunted 'Frostbite 2' game engine (which definitely lives up to the hype!)
BF3 won't be for everyone, though. The vehicle gameplay and the importance of teamwork may alienate some gamers more comfortable with straight-ahead, run n' gun twitch shooters.
Most of the negative feedback I've witnessed has been on BF3 forums, and seems to centre around features missing from this Battlefield release that were present in older games: what most folk either don't realise or won't accept is that gaming has evolved from 2005. BF3 deserves to be judged on it's own merits, not on the 'sins' of it's proverbial fathers.
If we can see and accept that gaming has evolved, and we look at this game objectively and fairly, then we have a new entity as the master race: Battlefield 3.

    1) I bought this to play multiplayer with friends. The servers put us on different teams 100% of the time... there's a "switch team" option, but it typically says "you can't" do it. 2) Big learning curve, no tutorial, rotten interface, no instructions except random online wikis players have written.

SP is pretty poor. GFX are very nice but gameplay and story is nowhere near as compelling as the MW games.
I can't play the MP because Origin doesn't want to work for my PC and EA don't seem to do customer support, so I'm left with a game I can't play or trade in because I've used my code. This will be the last EA game I ever buy.

AutoGraphics are intense, sounds are intense but sadly the game lost most of its defining characteristics as a Battlefield game due to marketing influence. Almost every major change that differentiates this game from its predecessor was made to cater to the console market as well as to those who prefer the more fast paced gaming that usually resides there (as in Call of Duty). Auto regenerative health on both soldiers and vehicles, small squads with no real tactical capabilities all lead to a game where everyone is a one man army and who rarely coordinates their actions with the rest of the team. This is even more hindered by the fact that there isn't the same voice chat functionality that existed in Battlefield 2, in fact the game has no voice chat support at all on the PC.

These glaring omissions of core teamwork related components has made a game that is far more like a sequel to Bad Company 2 (BC2), than Battlefield 2 (BF2). This is furthered by the inclusion of Rush mode a BC2 creation, smaller squad sizes (BF2 had 6 man squads, BC2 has 4 man squads) and auto-regenerative health (BC2 had this, BF2 did not).

Other changes seem to cater directly to the console crowd, the heavier grind to unlock weapon attachments by making each weapon unlock separately, auto-regenerative vehicle health, no time out on engineer repairs (in both BC2 and BF2 there was a limit with a small cool down prior to being able to repair again), points awarded for doing little to nothing at all.

The maps also are far more linear and restrictive than typical BF2 maps and the city environments some of the most restrictive with selective destruction and limited usable buildings.

All of this coupled with the Origin and Battlelog requirements makes this game far less appealing than it should be and sadly is one that I returned.

Pretty much disappointed in all the nonsense of tossing silly medikits around, sniper scope glares and brighter-than-sun flashlights. Also, the game is ugly. It's hiding it all behind a mass of light effects and bloom and hdr. Gameplay is nothing to write home about - it's BFBC2.5. Single player sucked balls, that's enough said.

What raises concerns is that Origin scans your PC for information. In laymans terms, it's both a game launcher/EA store but also a form of spyware. In both the visual and sound department, BF3 soars. I haven't played a game that sounds are looks as good as BF3 to date. The sounds that guns and explosions make add to the immersion and bring the game to life. Sometimes though, it can be difficult to locate the source of a sound. This can create a problem because situational awareness is key to win in BF3. Despite the cutting edge visuals and great sound, the gameplay in BF3 is poorly executed. The game is riddled with bugs and game mechanics that have made me scratch my head a bit. For instance, while playing on hardcore servers if a teammate kills you the kill counts against your K/D. Most, if not all, the servers I've played on had sever lag. Rubberbanding was suppose to be fixed in the latest server patch but in my personal experience the problem became more pronounced. Hit detection hasn't been fixed either. During the beta this was a concern raised by the community and apparently ignored by DICE. Battlelog has replaced the standard ingame server browser. It's a nice idea but poorly executed as well. Whenever I attempt to join a server BF3.exe will force close every other time I attempt to connect. This requires me to make two attempts to connect to a game. It can become frustrating when the server I'm trying to connect to is full. Most of the weapons in BF3 feel very similar. Rather than have multiple weapons with different strengths and weaknesses, DICE pretty much made them all nearly identical. In fact, weapon statistics are no where to be found other than a brief description of each weapon. Some of these descriptions are accurate while others are not. The various multiplayer maps have their strengths and weakness. Most of the close quarter maps are non-linear while some are linear. The linear maps aren't as fun to play but are more tolerable since spawn points are bearable. The non-linear maps have players of either team spawning in random locations. This leads to spawning near opponents or having opponents spawn right behind you. Many issues were fixed from the beta but many weren't. RPGs sometimes make the "shot" sound but actually never launch the missile. It's obvious bugs like this that make the game seem rushed and why this game could have easily scored a 9 or 10 for me but I can't overlook the carelessness of DICE. This game, as it stands now, is nothing more than a 6. Expand

Installing and running EAs very own spyware, Origin, is compulsory in order to play. Origin scans your personal data, including documents and tax returns. According to the EULA, EA can use this data however they want, including selling it to other companies. This is unlawful, outrageous, absolutely, totally unacceptable!! Also, the game isn't that great, either.

Mulitplayer is horrid. The capture points are all too close together. The servers or the game in fact cannot handle 16 players never mind 64. The netcode seems very broken or out of sync, you can shoot people until your clip is empty then die from 1 shot. There are lots of links about this, google it. This is the biggest flaw in the shooter that was bf3, I know lots of people do not see the problem, this is mainly because they have no talent and any kill for them is a good kill.

    to recap

Firstly, single player. In one word: BORING. Lots of scenes, fluid movements, lots of talking but it doesn't want you to play any further. Been there, seen it.
Next, multiplayer. Firstly, the main problem. Client-side hit register. If your enemy hits you on their screen, you die regardless of your actual position on your screen. This, basically, defeats the whole purpose of having dedicated servers - your ping doesn't matter, if they killed you a while ago but you only saw it now because of THEIR large ping, its your problem. Its the reason I stopped playing COD:MW2 (p2p multiplayer, client-side hit register), its the reason I didn't buy COD:MW3 (same p2p). Its the reason I'm trying to get a refund on BF3 now.
Other things to mention about MP: huge but empty maps, multi-layered buildings that prevent you from seeing the outside (its too bright), tanks that are nearly indestructible to infantry (3 rockets to kill it in hardcore - you'll just die), planes that have no purpose other than fighting other planes (they can't capture points, can't deliver more than 1 player to a point).
Hardcore is no longer hardcore. You don't get infinite health, but the minimap is ALWAYS on, minimap spotting lights you up as soon as you fire a gun, killcam (which reveals your position) is almost always shown, sniper scope glare makes it easy to find the sniper no matter how good their cover is. And best of all - the most powerful sniper rifle still doesn't kill with 1 bullet. Even assault rifle HEADSHOT won't kill them with 1 hit. What kind of hardcore mode is this?
Class balance is simply awful. Medic gets it all: infinite health with medkit, 100 points per revive (same as a kill), grenade launcher (replaces medkit), assault rifles (!). Support now has only light machine guns and... ammo packs! And thats it! As a result support is now least popular class, in many cases there is no one to ask for ammo. Recon is same good old sniper, engineer is same good old rocket launcher guy.
Weapon balancing is simple: the more you progress, the better the gun. Surely you can hit and even kill with anything, but F2000+IRNV = undefeated. Add ability to put a silenver and 3rd attachment to it and you'll know it simply defeats the purpose of tactical gameplay. You can just rambo it all. In BFBC2 we couldn't rambo 24/7 because best gun was in the hands of support and medkit was in the hands of medic, and you could only find cover when being shot at by a sniper - hard to tell where they were. But at least they didn't kill you with client-side hit register (you could run into cover and it did prevent you from being hit).
I am amused at people who are able to play this game for 100s of hours. I'm trying to get a refund to buy something else.

    3. recons are raped in this game, I played recon in BC2 and its a difficult class to play I loved the snipes across the map considering the bullet drop and determing the path the player would walk. the mortar was a game turner. what we get now is the soflam only usefull when there is a engineer with a stinger. and is paying attention. and that is the problem with this multiplayer game, they expect it to be teambased combat. but it isnt most of the players are lonewolfs. one can blame the players. I blame the developer for creating a environment which allows this. I am still a fan of minus points. are you being a dickhead and you want to kill a lot of ppl instead of getting to the target you get a penalty. that is what I call realistic. in the army they arent happy with triggerhappy nutsacks.

last thing I have to say is that the so called destruction in this game is at a minimum, remember in bc2 where you can level almost a whole map.. that isnt in bf3 and that was for me such a let down. if there was lots of destruction in this game I could live with my earlier made points. but the lack of it , I cant play it anymore it gets on my nerves more then I enjoy it. back to BC2 I say.

I wanted Battlefield 3 to stand on it's own and be a mix of what has come before it. In my opinion, that's exactly what I got. The game has aspects of BF2 with advancements made in BC2. Though not perfect by any means, I think DICE did a great job advancing the series. Graphically, the game is simply beautiful. Coupled with the sound and the atmosphere of the maps, you can really get sucked right into the battles. You do not feel like you are just playing a game, disconnected from it like you do is many other titles, such as MW3. You feel like you are playing a Hollywood movie, like you are a part of the battle, a part of the action. I have played every Battlefield game, I have hundreds of hours invested in BF2, and countless more in all the other titles combined, so I do consider myself a "veteran" of the series. Maps are simply horrible; they decided to abandon the huge maps we've seen in previous Battlefield titles, and now we have close-quarters levels with a terrible design, worse than the ones seen in the Call of Duty series (see Operation Metro if you don't believe me). There is no VoIP, destruction is worse than in Bad Company 2, hit detection fails (you get shot even after entering cover), patches are rare and, until now, have only made the game's balance worse, specially for the vehicles, which have been nerfed to oblivion. And, of course, your character will suicide many times for absolutely no reason. I can't tell you to stay away from this game because it is, indeed, a really nice experience (if you have the Back to Karkand expansion, because the original maps are terrible and the next DLCs will take months to be launched), but seeing what Battlefield 3 is, and the huge potential it has, I must say it's a complete fail, and the developers don't seem to care about fixing the game. Very realistic feel for weapons and feeling an actual kick when you fire, and their sounds. Beyond these things, i found the interface terrible, me and my 3 friends could make a squad, but half the time when we entered the game it would drop someone. so we'd try again, then one of us would be on the other team. then after that game we thought ok when we get to lobby we'll leave and enter a new one....oh wait there isnt a lobby, you have to wait until a whole new game starts and loads before you can leave? What about editing your class, you can't do that pregame either unless you back out to main page, i just wanna change one thing, and i don't wanna leave my game to do it. Guess i'll just do it while my friends are hopping in that humvee, oh wait their on the other team again.....good thing we had a fifth, he can stay on my team. Then i distinctly remember literally turning on my system four or five times because i would try to change class and would spawn without a weapon...i could run around and stuff, but couldn't shoot or throw grenades, and didn't see the barrel of a gun. I understand the deathmatch maps are small, but is it intentionally spawning me in gunfire? I mean CoD does this sometimes to but its more like bad timing there, i couldn't help but feel as though the game literally hated me sometimes and would spawn me to die a second later. Either way, i bought MW3 and BF3. I returned BF3. This game had MW3 beat hands down for (graphics/unlock-ables/realism/sound/vehicles), except for things that i just couldn't get past whether they be small or or not. I think i was like level 40 or so, i didn't spend a great deal of time playing the game but i was annoyed by the squad problems and lobby thing the most because i bought the game to play with my friends and brother. This game is nonsensical. Spawn, run, gun, die. Repeat ad nauseam. What is the point of having a "game" when there is no actual game - only interaction with an environment? An environment which is pretty cutting-edge with superb sound-effects, graphics and all, but surely you need more than that to make a game?

I was foolish enough to buy this game because of the hype, and it's really sad to see the direction FPS-games are going these days. 20 years from now we'll be playing shooters with built in aimbots and pre-scriptet behaviour making it more like a movie - no game, skills or thinking, just mindless clicking and even more mindless players.

I get a feeling that many who had to pay for this game will brag it up as the loss of money due to owning a digital booger may drive them mad. I feel that's the case with BF3 and the only way I can see anyone thinking this game is great. I play paid for and free games, I would not play BF3 even if it was free. Install the game, (plan on coffee) then download another 3.4 gigs? That's just to get the game up and running. When I saw the graphics, I nearly fell over. Looking back at Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, I do believe the graphics were comparable. This game is being run on great gaming computers, the graphics cards alone cost near 500 bucks, all quad cores, DDR3, etc... so it's not a performance lack, the graphics were simply laughable to me. When a player jumps over a wall, what's with the floppy legs?? Are they all Jeff Dunham recruits? It takes more time to get into battle than the time you get actually battling. The weapon effects are near zero, the blood looks like Jello forming, absolutely absurd. I've been gaming for a long time, longer than I care to admit, I was shocked to see anyone give this game a 10 but to each his own and hopefully some truly do get some enjoyment from this purchase. BTW, I tried to run over a stop sign, seems the stop signs are built better than the tanks in this game. Ah yes, the propane tanks, they won't burn leaves or paper but they will shatter cement. Shoot a launcher, watch the projectile disappear into oblivion, perhaps to start it's own life elsewhere far from this game. Aiming? A thing of the past, just point, shoot and hope, you will likely be better off for your troubles. COD MW2 was 10x this game and seems COD 3 will be as well. Enemy Territory Quake Wars was 10X better as well, but my list could go on for some time. Again, I could not play this game without laughing in bewilderment, thinking ridiculous thoughts of brainwashing conspiracies to explain the BF3 fanatical attention. That said, does anyone want to buy a very slightly and never again used BF3? No, I'm not kidding.

Ofc in fast peace FPS games its normal sometimes some minor lag/netcode issue, but in BF2 this issue was a lot less present.
Basically it ends to be a bit random when you engage an enemy directly, who is gonna die, and also can happen to see the enemy with 100% hp even if on screen you see you are hitting more then once.
It can happen to shot 20 bullets into an enemy face and end killed one shot.
As i just said those issues cant be totally absent from an fps, but they should be rare while in this BF3 they are basically the normal gameplay.
This BF3 seems to me nearly the same as BFBC2 as netcode /latency normalization, but defo its a lot worse then BF2, where hitting someone was actually doing effective dmg 95% of times perfectly.

+teamplay is very rewarding as always in a battlefield game
+damage from the guns feels great, there is actually recoil in MOST of the guns
    +runs very well
+physics on the jeep +driving is fun
+the game overall is the best shooter since battlefield 2
+actually uses pc hardware especially vram
-battlelog is **** no way to communicate with friends who just logged in while you are in a game
-jet physics and heli physics are a far cry from the brilliance of the desert combat mod physics, it's better than in awful games like bf:vietnam or bad company, but it's not on par. At least you have full control, it's just too arcady and momentum barely applies.
Plane and heli physics are a big deal in battlefield that is why I mention them.
-A few of the guns have virtually no recoil, meaning noone uses the guns that actually have a learning curve to them -metro is unplayable because of rpg, grenade and most of all grenade launcher spam and the endless ammo you have for them as long as you stand next to any ammo pack...
-some broken mechanics like the supernova flashlight, infrared vision scope and silly mortars
    -only 4 classes
    -broken vehicle perks that stack
-netcode is still **** compared to proper shooters like cs , quake and UT99, at least it's better than the abomination called bad company 2
-the minimap sucks, they nailed it in the previous games I don't know why they made it so painful to read now
-they forced the modern warfare style carrot on a stick of filling bars on players, why can't it just be like bf1942 where you get your guns and the sandbox nature of the game is fun enough to last you for 3 years without needing a carrot!! -no mod tools, shame on you dice you greedy ****
-destruction is really lame, they talked it up and it turned out to be a dud. Just scripted where you shoot one of the hitboxes of an object till it runs out of hp after which part of it or all of it crumbles.
I guess their netcode is to blame for this, with proper physics based destruction it would soil itself most likely.

This looks like a huge list of negatives, but other than a few major ones (no mod tools, dissapointing physics and netcode, and only 4 classes / no commander) which bring the score down for me, the others can be (and most likely will be) fixed by a simple patch.

There are hundreds of hours of gameplay and learning curve packed into this game, it looks , sounds, feels and plays well so it's worth getting.
It's just a shame that they dumbed it down here and there and tried to market it to the retarded cod demographic, while the two games have nothing in common other than that there are guns in them.

On to the mp portion of he game:

It is one of the best if i could compare it is the same gratifying experience as in SC2. The maps are greatly done and detailed on the PC version 32 vs 32 it is f.. hell to play u need to have a great squad behind your back to survive and to kick some ass in the process. The classes are balanced right of the bat except for some minor OP of the engineer class but i think that will be fixed soon. The environment and immersion in the mp can only bee done by Dice. The sound of the guns and armor units planes flying above your heads are AMAZING. The frostbite 2 engine i will not mention because hey there is not so much to say except when it comes to rendering maps and all of that detail FROStBITE 2 is God in engine department :))

So I gave up, but the multiplayer is great fun. Very large levels, with destructive objects all around. Think it's cheap that the one guy is just hanging out behind that one wall all the time killing people?? Just blow up the wall! The other great thing is that you get points for supporting your team, giving them health or supplies, etc... so you can upgrade your character without doing any killing if you so choose to.

My system is about a year old if not more, but pretty hefty built. It handles the game well, sometimes some choppiness but nothing game killing.

I haven't noticed very many horrible glitches personally, just the occasional killed body bouncing around, or camera inside a wall when showing who killed you. So really nothing that kills the game for me.

The idea that I have to open origin and then my web browser to open the game is stupid. Its mostly just bloating your system with more programs to run to just play a game. There are many rumors that origin is basically spyware. I prove this to be true but I can't disprove it as well. I don't care but if you are one of those paranoid people you might as well stay clear of this game.

Battlelog is facebook for battlefield You can post updates and track your stats. Something that doesn't really matter but is forced on you.

The multiplayer is fun. You have a bunch of weapons that can you unlock by getting points from preforming actions. Healing, giving ammo, spotting, repairing, disabling and destroying vehicles, capturing bases, assisting in killing someone, killing someone, and more. You can also unlock upgrades for your guns and vehicles.

I'm going to be up front about this: if you are going to play this on the PC, be prepared for headaches. Your experience may range from flawless to unplayable but I can almost certainly guarantee that you will encounter hiccups from time to time. However, if you are willing to go through the trouble of installing, configuring, and playing BF3, it will be worth your time. Just be prepared to do a bit of googling to help if you get stuck. I am only going to write about the multiplayer experience, as I consider that to be the meat-and-potatoes of any BF game.

The game itself is simply beautiful. I run it on high settings on medium-grade hardware at 1920x1080 at around 30-40fps. The gameplay should be familiar to anyone who has played a BF title before, with one noteworthy (and welcome, imho) exception: sprinting is now free, as in you can do it indefinitely. (It can be augmented with upgrades as well.)

EA's Origin and Battlelog (the web front-end) are getting a lot of flak, but personally, I have grown to really like the web interface. Battlelog allows you to really drill down into your stats and gives really easy access to item descriptions all in one, convenient place. The friends/"platoon"/party system could use an overhaul, and the lack of in-game VOIP is simply ridiculous, but these aren't game-breakers imho. I really like the ability to see what a server is doing before I commit to joining as well.

A few things I am waiting for DICE to address:
-Mouse resolution is non-adjustable (the slider does nothing!) and is wonky depending on how fast you move your mouse around
-The commo-rose is extremely slow to open
    -In-game VOIP--I mean, come on!
-Error messages that actually help--there is one that frequently pops up asking me if my game is up to date, and I can't tell because:
-Origin's "check for updates" and "repair install" features are broken

One last thing I should mention: if you are just starting out in BF3 Multiplayer, you are going to get slaughtered. A lot. This should not discourage you; a few days of solid play time should net you enough ranks to get some good weapon and player upgrades. Just keep at it, and the game becomes more and more rewarding.

Pros: Beautiful graphics, great sound, nice variety of weapons and maps, detailed stat-tracking
Cons: No in-game VOIP, front-end bugs, minor game glitches (the mouse thing)

The developers seem to be in contact with the community more that any other BF title to date, and the feedback system seems to be working thus far, so hopefully these wrinkles will get ironed out. By doing so, DICE stand only to make a great game even better. I'd recommend this game to my friends. Cheers~

    - Kit unlocks, while fun, again, I feel they went overboard the same issue as with BC2, defibrilators had to be unlocked, leaving you pretty much useless for the first 3 to 5 hours of the game.
    - Map sizes, while Battlefield 3 has been heralded as having some of the biggest maps in the Battlefield franchise, those biggest of maps only seem to utilise about 10% for play area and boundaries.
    - Gameplay/UI features, calling it a true sequel to Battlefield 2 would be considered false, the foundation that Battlefield 2 built on is just not there in Battlefield 3, it comes closer to a Bad Company sequel if anything. The communications rose that has been implemented is rather sloppy, however certain features are not set in stone, and DICE have hinted at certain additions down the track so this particular con does not weigh into my given score.

However it looks good and tries to bring something new to the table in sound and graphics which I respect. Where this same shines is in the co-op and online play. There's tons of fun in the massive maps with vehicles, planes and choppers and extra class feels completely different and fun. I'm new to the Battlefield series. To me this game would be a 10 if it supported as much players as the game MAG for PS3 or at least as much players on consoles as it does on PC.

It needs more game modes with smaller maps.

I'm liking it so far and will buy the "Going Back To Karkand" DLC.

So i had high hopes for this game. At first i have to say i did not like the whole origin system, but the ability to keep on surfing the net till the moment i join the game is nice. Though i can't say the origin software does the game any favours.

The game looks incredible no matter what the settings. Now please keep in mind i bought this game purely for multiplayer at which time i have clocked about 20 hours.
The scale of combat is nothing short of amazing. I enjoy playing mainly the 64 player maps, both with and without vehicles.

Almost all the maps are thoroughly enjoyable. And with multiple play styles per map with different progression with the rush format. The sound effects of everything in the game is amazingly vivid and when the bullets and rockets go whizzing by you when you huddled in a corner with your vision blurred due to surpression fire, i don't think there is another game quite like it.

Can't say i have encountered many major bugs that ruined my experience. Occasionally there may be a piece of wall just floating in mid air because the rest of it got blown up. And there are the occasional play models who still look like their alive and standing up but they're actually dead.

My biggest gripe is i purchased 2x HD6950's for this game and found that no matter what i do (format/different drivers/no software install etc) the game seems to be incompatible with this game and will only allow me to play anywhere between 2 hr -5 mins before it crashes my whole system (usually the 5 mins occurs) i have given these cards to a friend to try out and am currently using a GTX580 and have no issues running it on ultra settings @ 1080.

What the game contains in multiplayer is solid and works great but as mentioned by a few other reviews , they have skipped some of the best features of the BF series (especially from bf2/2142) such as team commander and more specific orders for squad leaders. That would have to be my biggest disappointment with the actual gameplay.

Never has battlefield put this much love into ambiance in a game. The sound effects alone immerse the player in the events around you. Every bullet whizzes, every explosion rocks your senses. The textures are phenominal even on my modest system (running core 2 due, and 2 8800 GTs 586 cards in SLI). Lighting is spectacular with glare from the sun adding a realism to the environment. The unlock and leveling system keeps you engaged and you feel like you accomplish something every time you play. Vehicles are fun and relatively balanced with Jets being somewhat out of place at times. Weapons fairly recoil realistically and take more skill, feel like they have weight to them, and sound amazing unlike the point and click use of weapons in MW2 and COD BO where weapons sounded like toy guns. The negative: ORIGIN. I'm on the fence about battlelog. There could have been more variety in unlocks on weapons instead of unlocking the multitude of scopes for each weapon. Some matches can be very one sided which make playing not so fun at times, no one likes being steam rolled. No choice in the squads you join, no character customization, no commander like in Battlefield 2. The destructible environments are lacking and was not delivered to the degree of Bad Company 2. Running across land while planes and helicopters are bearing down for their next prey, and tanks are on the move as well makes Battlefield 3 so engaging. If that wasn't challenging enough enemy's can find some great hiding places to jump out on you or pick you off with a well placed sniper shot. All the vehicles are available to both teams with a limited amount of each. However if any are blown up a replacement is spawned after a set cool down time.

Ground combat : TANK: although dice does realize that frontal armour is stronger than the side(or back). they've fail to accurately use the "Slope" feature however. if the tank on the higher ground get hit in the slope-armour part. it's suppose to BOUNCE off. not damage it. and for Christ sake, how is it that people can survive from getting hit by the 12.7mm(50.cal) machine-gun ? one shot would've been enough to make an inches size hole in people body

INF:the firefight is very intends because you can constantly die any second. there is also many unlockable that will help you such as flashlight, in which both help you see in the dark and blind people with it. or Laser sight where you can fire more accurately, but with a cost of being spotted more easily. the Gun still feel like a pea shooter however, with little to none recoil and extremly unrealistic accuracy. where you can kill people 500 yards away with pistols (can you hand be that steady?)

AIR:very fun (especially the dogfight) and the introduction of MANPAD sure make chopper whores life miserable. but still enjoyable however(as long as they have IR flare skill equipped).
the jet combat is very fun, but with limited map and weaponry the fun was limited as well.

AA: dice did a lot of change on AA weaponry in this game. the the appearance of MANPAD allow the infantry to engage hostile chopper without much need of air support. and the "Mobile" AA add the tactical approach in both conquest and rush mode. while the anti-air missile does exist in the mobile AA. why is the base AA doesn't have one?. im really getting tired of trying to shoot down a fly size jet. at least give us a flak or something. (lol)

all and all, dice did a great job at the game. the frostbit 2.0 meant that more thing could be blowup. base camping is gone (xD) and you're now given an option to either get back in action or die when being revived. the game isn't perfect but still, good job dice. ;)

Another great package from the Battlefield series, very deep story line and excellence execution in multiplayer. The only disappointment (BIG one) is that is only takes windows 7 which is really bad as I have to upgrade my Window XP into Win7 which I do not want to do. The bottom line is "All good except the Seven requirement"

Reality is this is my worst battlefield expirience ever. First of all, it took me 3 days to actually get the game started. Since Origin is a worthless piece of junk, my account registeration failed 2 times in a row. I made an account, no error messages. I couldn't login so I tought they must have sent me a confirmation email of something and waited a day for that. Nothing happened so I made another account. Same thing. I decided to disable my firewall and try again. Magically a new screen appeared after registeration and it worked. How incompetant do you have to be to write a piece of software that doesnt work with a firewall and doesn't give an error message when it fails to connecto to EAs servers? Fine EA, I wont ever use Origin again. Steam FTW.

Now to the game. You would think that after months of patching the game would be pretty balanced and good. NOPE. Battlefield players always complain if their precious tank/helicopter can actually be destroyed. DICE has once again folded and made jets/helicopters impossible to hit with an RPG. Maybe the balance would be ok IF the pilots were newbies playing with a keyboard and mouse. Guess what DICE. After 9 months only hardcore players are left and pilots are using joysticks and know every trick in the book after playing the game for 100-300 hours. If you are like me and want to play battlefield as infantry, STAY AWAY from this game. To make matters worse, EA/DICE dont run official servers anymore so most servers are fan run servers with rules that make the balance even worse. Rounds that last for hours, faster vehicle spaws, ban if you use and RPG and so on.

But perhaps the worst offender in this game are the maps. They are so large that you cant do anything without vehicles. There are also so few maps that you cant arrord not liking a map. A map can be used with 3 different names for different modes, but the level is the same. Metro for example is just a camp fest, because of poor design. The game always stops in the same hallway, because there arent proper flanking possibilities. EA did the same as Activision did with COD. Start the series by shipping with tons of maps and only sell a few as DLC. Now both have started shipping the game with less and less maps and ripping you off by selling overprice map packs. I'm not going to buy back to karkand, close quarters or BF premium, because I hate the game. Give me more free maps and I might actually like the game if they are any good. Then I might buy DLC. I wont however support you ripping me off, EA.

Coming in as newbie is made even more frustrating by the awful unlock system. Not only am I playing an unbalanced game, I'm playing it against players with hundreds of hours of expirience and way better equipment. NO anti-air RPG is really nice when the enemy has air dominance. Need to play for hours to unlock even the most basic equipment. Reflex sight for example is a weapon specific unlock.

    Pros
    - Looks nice

    Cons
    - Origin...
    - Unbalanced (air vehicles are overpowered)
    - Frustrating, because of ridiculously slow unlocks
    - Not nearly enough maps and vanilla version maps are bad (be prepared to pay for back to karkand if you want any content)

So my advice is, buy all the content you can for Battlefield Bad Company 2 instead of buying this awful sequel. I put in over 100 hours into BC2 and loved every minute of it. BF3 at its best struggles to match BC2 at its worst. Bad Company is the proper refined version of the BF formula. BF3 goes back to a broken BF formula. Pretty graphics don't make up for a broken game.

First, the singleplayer. This was a great display of visuals, no matter your graphic settings for your PC. Storyline, wasn't quite what I'd consider great, maybe decent, tops. This was mostly due to you playing an on rail shooter. But the visuals, they are great, but singleplayer feels like it was only meant to show off the Frostbite 2 engine, which they did very well on, but the storyline obviously suffered due to the focus on that. Overall, it's pretty, but for the same looks, and much more interactive, go online. Second, the Co-Op. The Co-Op was fun, but very short-lived. With only 6 short missions, there wasn't much meat to it. If anything, I wanted to know more about these individual missions, and the complete storyline behind the characters, especially at the end mission. This left me wanting more, and I really do hope there is, because it was fun, though short. The only challenge is really on Hard mode, Normal should be the Easy mode, Hard switched with Normal, and then Hard the ungodly difficult mission mode. It was fun, though, to try and get through all of them without dying. The biggest challenge with that is the glitch[?] where an enemy will knife you like he has the commando perk from CoD. And without warning, either. Third, the multiplayer. This is what you should be buying this game for. If not, you're wasting your money. The multiplayer can feel cheap at times with enemy mortar or vehicles, or simply a bad team. But it's gorgeous to watch and be a part of. To see a complete different scene on every map, on every side, on every game mode, is amazing. They included conquest, conquest large [2 extra objectives, or at least 1 extra from conquest], rush [demolition, plant bombs, you move through the map], and then team deathmatch, along with one squad of four only versions of rush and team deathmatch.
Overall, I gave this game an eight because of the co-op shortlived, bad singleplayer, and amazing multiplayer. Don't buy if you're playing alone, but online, it is quite something.
