Unlike most of the negative reviews here, I am reviewing THE GAME. Not the horrible Origin service, or the Battlelog. Let's start with Single-Player: The storyline might be generic, but it is a well-executed one that does make sense, and has some pretty good voice acting at times. Some moments were executed well. One certain execution of a character was a real punch to the gut, even more so than "The Coup" from Call of Duty 4. Another scene really is a shock to players, I'm not going to spoil any more. But this game really did pull off some great set-pieces. For the gameplay, if you played CoD you know what to expect, One mission does give you full control of a tank, but sadly that is the only mission that gives you full control of a vehicle. The gunplay however, feels responsive, and thanks to the Frostbite 2 engine, Is complete eye and ear candy. Bullets whiz past you, Rockets deafen you as you hear chunks of debris fall the the ground, and guns sound realistic. The graphics are beautiful as well, and the campaign takes about 8 hours to complete. The Quick Time events I did not have a problem with, They at least give you some form of interactivity in the cutscenes, unlike CoD, where you just sit and watch. One quicktime event with a rat gives you one of the funniest death scenes ever.

Multiplayer: I have NEVER had THIS MUCH FUN in an Online FPS EVER. This Multiplayer in this game cannot be missed. The game gives you a ton of Variety, From 64 Player Conquest, to 32 player Rush, to 16 Player Deathmatch, This game has something for everyone. The maps all feel different, From Wide Open Deserts and Forests, to tight Subway Tunnels and Alleyways. Rush can give you tons of variety in a single map, for example, Operation Metro starts out in a wide open Park, Long range combat, Counter Sniping, and flanking, Then you drop into a subway, giving great close quarters battles, and really requiring you to push on with your team, to a slightly wider Ticket Area, where you have to flank while teammates lay down Suppression fire, Out into the beautifully designed City, Where pieces of buildings crumble down, Meaning Snipers are not much of a problem if you have explosives. 64 Players is intense. Jets fly above you, Helicopters crash down, Tanks roll across the desert. Rockets and bullets fly all around you. This game cannot be missed when it comes to Multiplayer. Online FPS of the year, without a doubt.

Yes, this game has many bugs and flaws, but I give it 10/10 and excuse all the troubles. And now explain why:

    3) This is primarily a PC game, then, to begin a series of games from DICE. Again, "some competitors" sold themselves to console vendors for profit.

The biggest problem I've had is getting into the servers I want, unfortunately server queues are turned off as they interacted weird with the matchmaker.

I haven't gotten around to the single player yet, so I can't really make many statements on that other than I'm glad it's not the acid trip that the MW plot has turned into. I'll gladly take something somewhere near reality instead of following up on Red Dawn '09 (seriously, I hated that movie to begin with and then they re-did it in a video game TWICE!). I have always thought BF needed some sort of real single player mode, if only to ease new players into the controls and gameplay.

Co-op is a blast, difficult as hell sometimes but very fun. I do recommend playing with somebody you know, as communication is fairly important in some of the missions. I liked that they provided a variety of scenarios to play, offering a bit more variety than a -> b run-and-gun. The score system and different difficultys add replay-ability, if only to help a friend unlock the co-op weapons for MP. I really hope they are planning to add more in later.

The heart of the beast, Multi-Player mode proper, remains at it's core the same. Conquest is still considered the primary game mode, offering the structure of take-and-hold objective-based gameplay we've all come to expect from the series. Rush is making a return from the Bad Company series, and for players new to objective-based play (or just feel like shooting anything that moves for a while) they've even added in the all-time classic Deathmatch for the first time in a BF game.

Now some people weep over the loss of the commander position (and all the drop and strike powers it had), but I for one believe the game is better off. Previously, a lot of power was held by one player who was randomly placed into that job at the beginning of a round (well not completely random, but...). This guy could either be a boon or a weight on the team's neck, especially if he wasn't paying enough attention to the map or just felt like screwing around. Game balance must have been difficult to aproach with such an unpredictible element to the game. So starting in BFBC2 they ripped the position out and handed the old powers down to the players as kit, a trend that continued into BF3.

Speaking of kit, unlocks are fairly streamlined but still have a bit of depth to them. Expounding on previous versions of the system, not only does each kit have their own unique gear to unlock but each vehicle group now does too. Additionally, weapon mods are no longer unlocked generally by the class but are instead rewarded on a gun-by-gun basis. I think these are strong moves for two reasons. One, it makes the player feel rewarded for more specific actions while playing. And more importantly two, it keeps the better unlocks from being easily gainned (a delay for balance in a way).

The classes have been re-organized again, though not quite as drasically as when they consolidated the 7(?) older classes. Assault has gone back to 2142 in being the medic with under-slung weapons for their rifles. Support got back the ammo crates, stole C4 and claymores from recon, got a mortar (the current "artillery strike"), and use LMGs with the newly-functional bi-pods. Engineers remain mostly unchanged with anti-armor rockets/missiles/land mines, a vehicle repair tool (with an RC version), and switching PDWs for carbines. The ever shifting Recons still have sniper/marksman rifles, but now have a deployable motion sensor, the squad spawn beacon, a vehicle marker light, and a motion-sensor equipped RC drone. All four classes still feel like a cohesive package, each one having plenty of toys to play with.

This has been a bit rambling, and is not a "true review", but I just wanted to address the general shifts in gameplay in the new BF. I can't really get enough of the game, and I am thankful Back to Karkand is coming out at the end of the semester. If you still haven't bought the game, then you're probably lucky in missing the typical launch bugs. If I was smart, I'd wait until after the first patch cycle for every new game before I buy. But I just had to get back on the battlefield.

Do not be deterred if someone says that its horrible. Its not. THE CAMPAIGN:
Eh... good. Not perfect, but if you let yourself enjoy it instead of going off your nut about how unrealistic it is, its amazingly fun. Its a good attempt at a combination of over the top and realism, but its confused in what it wants to be. Stay true to BF BC2 style, or try to take in some people off COD. It tried, admirably. Its setpieces are amazing, if a little forgettable. But you wont.

    FROSTBITE 2:
If I hear another tard saying that they cant run it fast on a intel gpu ill shoot something. This is a true PC game, so make sure you have the power before turning it to ultra. It can properly scale it for you. Update your drivers, youll have a blast. It looks amazing, it will not dissapoint. DICE has gone that extra leap in the sound and visuals.

    MULTIPLAYER:
Brilliant. Everything that Bc2 did well its built on. Its impossible not to have fun if you get in the groove, but it can be a little annoying if you have that string of stupid revives or respawns that give you a ill feeling. Instead of tring to be COD it outdid it in its own niche. Youll find yourself in an adrenaline rush as you and your teammates systematically blow thru walls and shoot **** Its amazing, totally immersive. Not the (unfortunately) terrible arcade and stale multiplayer filled with 12 year olds in MW3. I wrote a review for that.... it was ghastly. Either way, its an amazing game with room to grow; its still near perfect now, but look at BC2; it was the best multiplayer in 2010 after DICE patched it and added a few things.

    FINAL VERDICT:
    Er, 10, obviously!
Id like to try and convince you that im not a fanboy, but the assumption of a 10 is that I am.
im not. But I feel like this game is probably the best SHOOTER ever made. The effort and workmanship is astonishing. Its reviewer score is much more relevant to its actual game status and not the user score ruined by people who are COD fanboys or expect it to be COD. Buy it. Enjoy.

With a game like this, it's easier to describe what's wrong--anything I don't mention you can assume is awesome. So with the multiplayer...your biggest problem might just be the sheer intimidation factor. I know what people say about the campaign, but I personally loved it. The deaths were not expected, but were actually believeable. Now, the score: The score is absolutely amazing, and after I right this, I will proceed to buy it off of iTunes. The music isn't always blaring in your ears, but when it is playing, it really compliments the game. The mulitplayer is one word: competely expectation- shattering. I was maybe a little scared about how Battlefield 3 would be, but all my doubts were put to death. The multiplayer is amazing. You can't wait to get your next unlock, and DICE doesn't shove a new unlock down your throat every game, conquest NEEDS teamwork, and so does rush, which seperates battlefield from other FPS games. The 64 player multiplayer is probably about as close to an actual battlefield that you can have without actually going into combat. NOTE: THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT BATTLEFIELD 3 IN IT'S CURRENT STATE (WITH BACK TO KARKAND).

I will admit upfront that I am a longtime Battlefield fan. I have owned and sunk many hours into every Battlefield ever made (including modern combat). I will also admit that I am not a fan of Call of Duty. I enjoyed all of the games up to Call of Duty 4, but after that, it became too fast paced and competitive to enjoy.

Now, with that out of the way, I am NOT going to base this review on whether Battlefield is better than Call of Duty, nor will I base it on the previous Battlefield games. This review is meant to help someone who does not care about either franchise make an informed purchasing decision.

Graphics (9/10): The graphics in this game are beautiful. While they are not the most beautiful I have ever seen, they do an amazing job of making you feel integrated into the game world. I love the fire effects, I love the detail work, I love the shaders. However, they decided to put a blue-ish tinted filter on. It may not be noticeable at first, but eventually you will be all like, "Hey! Everything in this game is blue!" there was a great article explaining all of the post processing they did, and the blue is supposed to evoke emotion while playing (or something). However, my biggest complaint about graphics would have to be the sun glare. If you are facing the sun or trying to shoot at a helicopter in the air, you will be almost completely blinded by the sun glare. I would have given graphics an 8/10, however the fact that DICE created a whole new engine and made revolutionary graphics for the first time in years gives them that extra boost. Do research into a new GPU if you haven't already, this game is demanding.

Sound (10/10): The sound in this game is excellent. From rounds whizzing past your head, the crack of stray bullets striking the concrete, or even the echoes of your gunfire being reverberated off of the distant scenery gives this game an intense atmosphere. Vehicles sound like vehicles. Guns are loud and thick. helicopters have different effects depending on where you are in relation to them. I could go on and on about the sound because the sound, in my opinion, is unrivaled. If you were considering buying a sound card for this game, do it. And buy surround sound too.

Multiplayer gameplay (8/10): Since the campaign and the multiplayer are so drastically different, I am splitting them into two separate parts. The multiplayer is fantastic. In cooperative, there are 6 missions for you and one other person to play through. In multiplayer, there are APCs, tanks, helicopters, jets, jeeps, anti-air, boats, and even forklifts. Even if vehicles are not your thing, the infantry combat feels very effective with 4 diverse classes. The game has a variety of game modes including rush, conquest, team deathmatch, squad deathmatch, and squad rush. In all, I am impressed with the multiplayer. However, there are some significant flaws which the developers have failed to take care of (as of yet). For one, there is no balancing mechanism. I understand that dedicated servers dominate the list, but there needs to be some kind of balancing mechanism present. I cannot count the number of times I have been put on a team who is losing 15 to 300. It gets very frustrating as one team will just plow the other round after round after round. Also, there is no spawn protection. I know that many people do not like the idea of spawn protection, but eventually after spawning and being immediately killed before even having the chance to move, they will warm up to it. There are a few more flaws involved, but those are the most glaring.

Single-player gameplay (4/10): If you are considering dropping the $60 on this game just for the single-player - Don't. The campaign was O-K. Sometimes I really enjoyed it, other times I wanted to pull my hair out. There is no reward or recognition for completing the campaign. The story was somewhat confusing, and the characters were very uninspired. If anyone has any military or LE background, the techniques the (spoiler) interrogators use are glaringly wrong. Just skip past it. Interface (6/10): If you are purchasing this for the PC, you will HAVE to use Origin, and you will HAVE to use Battlelog (a website from which you launch the game). Why the developers thought this was a good idea is beyond me. At first it seemed impossibly evil, however it is beginning to grow on me. In-game the interface is somewhat clunky, but acceptable. DICE has already made adjustments improving the interface with patches, but they have a ways to go.

Overall: Ignoring the single-player entirely, this game receives an 8.25/10. The multiplayer is fun, the graphics are beautiful, the sound is eerily realistic, and there are many things to unlock. If you are looking for a new FPS experience, this is the game for you. And for the BF fanboys: This is not BC3; this is not the BF2 sequel. This is BF3.

The vehicles are fun to control altough it takes some time to get used to the helicopters and jets wich is not necessary a weakness. I must also admit that I have not played a second of the singleplayer and I will probably not soon, maybe I will one if I`m bored of playing online and I want to get the trophies but I have never cared about a battlefield campaign because it`s definetly not the best element in the game. Finally, I highly recommend you this game but I`m more or less puzzled about the other reviews, so just rent it before to be sure. Expand

Buy this for the multiplayer - it is, by far, the best multiplayer experience out there.

BF3 improves a lot on BF2, but you will have to learn your skills again as the game is quite different.

Netcode and hit detection is excellent (at least for me) just be sure to play on low ping servers

Realism in the right places makes this game epic. From the character in the destructible environment to the small details of bullet drop etc add up to a masterpiece.

Multiplayer is top of the line. The game runs reasonably well even on an old dual core computer. The way I see it, the Singleplayer is not a component of Battlefield games, it never was. Otherwise, Multiplayer, is outstanding, with more guns, more unlocks, more vehicles and the largest maps we've seen so far.

I doubt ANYONE played these games for the single player, no matter what the critics say it has no influence in the sales and quality of each game in this day in age. They know what they are and thats a MP experience and if you wanna try support the single player, then you obviously haven't played any other proper single player experience this year as the market is littered with better experiences. Now back to battlefield 3, i'll start with a list of innovations in gameplay and graphics.... The destruction system, while flawed and not red faction, its still really immersive and realistic. Terrain deformation, bit of wall flying off wen trying to hide.... its insane who good it looks. I mean I see a bunch of enemies hold up in one area, fire a rocket above them and the building falls and kills them all. Like wow! It brings new levels of realism and immersion to the experience. The animation system they built is incredible, characters die, move, shoot, you name it, they do it so realistic its makes you stop a marvel at the true innovation they've incorporated here. Vehicles looks amazing, firing a tank in a wooded area and all the trees bend to the shockwave of the force from the cannon.... WHAT GAME DOES THIS! So amazing to watch. Small little innovations to gameplay also to balance the experience are implemented like flashlight blindings, laser sights so blind snipers out of their camping poistion, not to mention the lense flare if the sniper point in scope at you specifically. All these little things help push the genre forward.

The sound in this game is unrivaled by ANY game. Just amazing, I feel like I'm in a real battlefield from start to finish of a map and it truly shows what can be done these days. This is the game you show to non-gamers to show them how far games have come and how much room for improvement a lot of games need to make to even come close to competitive with this great title. You can tell they put so much time and effort into a truly deep, immersive and NEW experience than its previous iterations. New engine = yes imo. DICE you've done it again 10/10

It has its moments and cool scenes but the majority of it is boring and highly repetitive. I'd say it's worth a single playthrough just to stare in awe at the visuals. But no one buys a BF game for the single player. I'm happy to say that BF3 MP is what BF2 fans have been waiting for. While many of the original maps were not suited for 64 players save for 2 or 3 the Back to Karkand expansion does a wonderful job of filling that gap with HUGE classic levels and even more destructoid. What I am really happy to see DICE improve on is the infantry gunplay. Battlefields weak point was always the infantry combat but they really went above and beyond here. The biggest dissapointment doesn't have anything to do with the game but I feel should be mentioned here. This is a game that really requires teamwork and unfortunately most players seem to be selfish and only play for themselves. I am sick and tired of seeing someone run into an APC and drive off by himself when you have 7 people needing a ride. People just don't seem to work together but when you get into that rare server with those one of a kind teams it can be a real blast. Of course Origin has been a big controversy but honestly I like it. Getting into a game is so fast for me but then again I am using an SSD so I don't know how long the whole process takes for mechanical drive users. Expand

Unlocks are actually fun, because when you start you are not at an insane disadvantage. I can own full colonels as a private---the way it should be. This is a must own game. The sounds are rich, the graphics are crisp, the maps are fun to play whether you take your Assault Rifle or hop into a jet. I loved the feature because it gave a chance to practice how to play right inside each maps. I think people shouldn't batter BF3 because of the story, because they are starting to develop one for the first time. Sure, Call of Duty 1 and other great FPS's had great singleplayers at the start, but Battlefield is starting late so cut them some slack, okay? The multiplayer was great, it was really fun. The vehicles are as OP and lovable as ever. The unlock system is the same from Battlefield Bad Company 2. The attraction, though, is the humongous 64 player servers, which provide a vast area to cooperate and assault together. The game did a good job of making some people do their roles, because without Assault being a Medic, a team can be decimated real quick. I feel this game had more elements to Bad Company 2, I'm not saying it's bad, but I wished it would have focused on more Battlefield 2 aspects, such as Commanders. Commanders were the biggest part of teamwork inside Battlefield 2. Without a good commander, the other commander can decimate the team quickly. I was surprised there was no UAV, no Artillery, no Supply Drops, zip. Instead, each soldier had to do their jobs. I was REALLY disappointed commanders were left out, along with most of the kits that were diverse. There were good people in the community, though, who worked really hard to achieve victory. I was disappointed too that you couldn't choose your unlock like Battlefield 2. I liked the rank system becoming harder to achieve, like Battlefield 2, but people had to focus on one class alone to unlock certain classes. I wish they bring Commanders back in Strike at Karkand DLC's.

    If there can be improvements:
Go to what Battlefield 2 done right a little! Add commanders, an optional unlock system, and some classes! (I really wanted Anti-Tank and Engineer to be separate).

Battlefield 3 is a truly spectacular FPS. I'm sure it's the game that DICE wanted to make. Unfortunately, it's not the game that I wanted them to make. I'm just going to make this short and sweet and break this review up into pros and cons...

    PROS:
    - Awesome graphics, amazing lighting, and insane effects make for a very visceral experience.
    - Infantry combat just feels great. Everything from running, jumping, and shooting feels very solid and refined.
    - The sounds! Wow! Just amazing.
    - Conquest, Rush, and TDM on every map.
    - Weapons feel pretty well balanced for the most part, although no game gets balance right on the first go.
    - Battlelog is a particularly good server browser for the game.

    CONS:
    - People who don't have multiple monitors might find Battlelog to be cumbersome.
    - Sloppy blue-glowing UI design that is hard to read and makes very poor use of available screen space.
    - Chat window is idiotically placed in the right-center of the display, overlaps a considerable portion of the view, doesn't scale with resolution.
    - No in-game VOIP.
    - Horrible mouse control for jets. After you move the mouse the jet's control surfaces auto-center, which makes maneuvering erratic at best.
    - Only basic joystick support. You can't set joystick control rates or individual sensitivities for different vehicles.
    - Game configuration can only be accessed while you're spawned in a live match.
    - No ability to save kits.
    - Poor overall map design. Conquest maps feel much smaller than BF2 maps and flags are spaced closer together. Battles feel less "epic" than BF2, overall.
    - The command rose is utterly useless in its current form. It takes a second for it to pop up, and then it's impossible to see which item you have selected.

I could go on with the cons, but I think I'll stop there. BF3 is a great game in its own right, but it's not really what I consider to be a true successor to BF2. It's more like a hybrid of BC2 and BF2 with smaller-feeling maps, smaller-feeling battles, less epic-ness, and very little feeling that you're playing in a "sandbox" environment. There's not as much stuff in BF3 to have fun with as there was in BF2 and, to a certain extent, BC2 as well. DICE has whittled the Battlefield experience down to the husk, leaving only a few kernels of hope that it could one day grow into the game BF2 veterans really wanted. The "Back To Karkand" expansion may make or break this game for a lot of veteran players.

It's when my friends aren't playing, I wish there was a way to talk to your squad... it is a squad based shooter.

And all the negative user reviews: Here's the thing... If your computer is older than a year and don't want to invest in computer parts, don't buy this game... we who have money to modernize don't want you to play anyways. Other thing, I hate MW players that complain it's too hard... maybe because this game is too realistic and not an arcade shooter. I play both and MW is a run-and-shoot where BF is a think-and-shoot game.

Multiplayer is beautiful and engaging with jets flying overhead and tanks rumbling past fighting over capture points and M-Coms. The unlock system is familiar and enticing always pushing you to play one more match to get that next weapon or add-on. The shooting mechanics are truly amazing realistic weapon handling and bullet physics make every engagement truly feel dangerous and rarely does a death feel cheap. Tanks handle like a dream heavy and cumbersome but with the ability to trade handling for speed at the press of a button it makes some pretty tactical options open up, stay and fight or pop a smoke screen and reverse full speed. Helicopters are perfect, subtle movements lead to victory but playing like it's an arcade game with see you nose diving into the earth. Jets are finicky but perform well, as of writing this they are pretty hard to get kills with early on and my only advice is try it out and if you aren't too hot stick with it it has a serious learning curve.

Overall Battlefield 3 is an amazing game that SHOULD NOT BE MISSED if you're a shooter fan! Call of Duty fan boys will bash it and in all honesty as a CoD player myself (not a big fan, just a player) they shouldn't! Both games will be good (in there own ways) but for the ultimate skill based (not twitch based) gameplay experience you owe it to yourself to pick up BF3 and have a awesome time online!

I had no problems installing, and entering the games (though i would like to see my ping)

However the experiencing is amazing. The 64 player battle maps are just incredible, and it feels so real. The way that each player is forced to follow some sort of tactics. You can flank, you can suppress, and there is a genuine fear of death. The result is genius. only thing i don't like now is that the lights are blinding, and some players are using this as a "hack".

However, I do have some grievances which brings my rating down to an 8. While infantry combat is a step up in the Battlefield series, that doesn't say very much, considering the hit registry for every battlefield game has been rather atrocious. BF3 is the first one to do it mildly better, but even still there are many issues. Up close infantry fighting, I often feel like the game utilizes hitscan registry, and I receive a kill message from the server before I see the death animation of the player. It's a very odd scenario. The map design is the biggest fault of this game. It feels linear and messy, not much thought process went into these maps. The destruction was scaled back, which leads me to believe that they rushed this one out the door and hoped to finish it up later. B2K already features advanced destruction compared to the vanilla BF3 maps, and is being released only a couple of weeks from now. This makes me think EA forced DICE to release the game early to steal some of the MW sales. Beyond that it's a fine game, the campaign is forgettable, but the graphics make it stand out. Expand

The singleplayer is noticeably underwhelming, but BF games are multiplayer at heart. BF3 does push your pc, which is something that i like, as it's time to push forward and unlock what pcs can achieve and not take people with old hardware along with the ride, or gaming won't evolve. Possibly with patches, more destruction in maps and a few other tweaks, BF3 would be a true brutal force in the fps genre. I still like BF2 over BF3 however, but i'm happy with the vision dice were trying to put together. Time will make it a better game. Expand

    Well worth the $60.

I have this on PC. I have about 30 hours logged excluding finishing the campaign on hard and all the co-op missions. I'll tell you this, BF3 has its plunders with a somewhat lack luster single player...but honestly who is buying FPS games to look forward to story? The multiplayer is AAA+ quality. People may complain about Origin but it's mainly browser plugin issues

The multiplayer is AAA+ quality. People may complain about Origin but it's mainly browser plugin issues or your own fault for 3rd party blocking software.
ORIGIN has been up/running the entire time since launch asides from maintenance and there hasn't been any "day1" patch or anything of that sort - the game was released well polished.

Multiplayer is fun fun fun....Get this game if you're a fan of FPS shooters. The tactical realism coped with it's own "Battlefield" quirkiness really makes the gameplay unique. If you're looking for something besides a typical military shooter - get Battlefield 3.

I also really like that engineers can now carry mines and an RPG, which wasn't possible in some previous BF games (I haven't played them all).

Some people complain that the game now has a lot of "console features", which "suck" on PC. I think this features help people starting to play FPS games and the fact is that all those features, such as vehicle health regen, can be disabled on the server. Hardcore mode is great as there is no health regen, no map, no aim guide when shooting form the hip, etc.

    Pros:
    - Unlocks per weapon / vehicle.
    - 64 players.
    - Team play
    - Everything else.

    Cons:
    - Registration servers were down in EU on the night of release
    - Sometimes a bit laggy, but getting better.

Whether I am playing alone or with friends, this game has killed time like no other. I've owned the game since its release and have barely noticed the days of playtime that I've already put into it. If you aren't use to FPS controls, they take some getting used to, but the control-design of everything from your soldier, to both air and land vehicles, and even to the way projectiles are affected by gravity are all superb - fluent and intuitive. Minor bugs have popped up here and there, though this is almost always the case with newly released online games and luckily none remotely game breaking (some being nothing but amusing); they are being dealt with and fixed anyway. Dice never ceases to amaze me with their battlefield products and this is no exception. I've been playing battlefield games since 1942 was released and have always enjoyed that the development team actually DEVELOPS their game instead of using the same engine over and over with prettier lighting or slightly tweaking guns to reproduce ones used in previous games (HINT: Call of Duty). EvenDice never ceases to amaze me with their battlefield products and this is no exception. I've been playing battlefield games since 1942 was released and have always enjoyed that the development team actually DEVELOPS their game instead of using the same engine over and over with prettier lighting or slightly tweaking guns to reproduce ones used in previous games (HINT: Call of Duty). Even though it has the Frostbite 2 engine, many of the buildings on urban based maps are static and inaccessible in anyway, but the ones that are, you can completely strip away the benefits of planting your four man squad in it and force your enemy to fight in the open instead of camping in a limited access area. I was still a little disappointed in the static environments though versus Bad Company 2 where you can make a completely new path by blowing out a hole in a building, running through it, and making another hole with your trusty grenade launcher in order to bypass tanks or dug in troops. There are still plenty of destructible buildings that you can drop on top of a not so bright enemy's head and many of the walls you use for cover and be chipped away with concentrated fire or a good ol' RPG. The infantry only maps are a lot more team based and bring back that tactical feeling from Battlefield 2 that Bad Company 2 left out with narrow choke points or large areas littered with lots of cover spots that a sneaky squad can navigate and snag a capture point right under the enemy's nose if you don't have a group watching over it. The vehicle combat is more or less the same as in Bad Company 2, but choppers are a helluva lot more powerful (even though they're still missile magnets) and the jets have more of a knife fighting, gun slinging, cut throat battlefield 1942 feeling instead of the "I got on your tail so you're automatically dead" combat from Battlefield 2. The open maps still give that sense of random happenings that you get from Battlefield games that just make it so much more enjoyable to play over the "run in and control this area to win" combat you see with most shooters today. I think Dice could've done better with the single player development though. There were parts that got your attention or made you feel like you were in that situation yourself, but the musical score is rather pathetic in variety and you can pretty much predict which tune will play at what time and in what situation after the first couple of levels. I'm not saying the solo campaign wasn't exciting, but they could've done much better on it. Overall, Battlefield 3 is worth every penny you spend on it even though the weapon unlocks is a little repetitive and the first release version is a little buggy with battlelog and it not liking running with certain programs (for me it's xfire, Battlefield 3 wont even start while I'm running it). HOWEVER multiplayer tho is where you get what you paid for, its immense!!! I have played all the Call of Duty's (from the first ever one to black ops) and started playing Battlefield from Bad Company 2 and boy oh boy i wish i started playing the battlefield series earlier. There is so much to BF3 multiplayer, it looks great (even on low graphics), the maps are fantastic ranging from vast maps with jets and large scale warfare going all the way down to the very COD like team deathmatch mode on maps modified and made small for team deathmatch play. I have already mentioned the graphics, but the sound deserves a mention and for me no other game has ever got close to the quality that Battlefield has in terms of sound. You can hear bullet's whistling by, the scream of a jet above and the crackle of gun fire from the distance. Oh another random mention on the graphics (sorta), I love the fact that when you are playing on the night maps you get fantastic tracer fire that lights the battlefield up. So basically if you love multiplayer, just play this and you will be hooked for months!

On a side note, I find it really sad that people who probably havent even played the game, let alone brought it give it scores of 1 and 0 etc. Really are that petty!!!!!!!!!!

BF3 is awesome! Story is good, graphics are super awesome. Multiplayer is a versatile and have lots of unlocks and vehicles is working perfectly. It have few bugs but DICE will fix them. New game engine is wonderful. Game is hard what is good. I have to say only BF, (if it comes) is remake of 1942 to frostbite 2 engine. But this is best Bf for now. I recommend this.

I bought this game for the multiplayer, and I love it! It's exactly what I wanted it to be, which is a better version of Bad Company 2. Better graphics, more destructible environments, amazing sound. It's the immersive, semi-realistic shooter I've always wanted. The classes are all different and all useful, and it's slower paced than MW.

I might eventually play the single player campaign.

I will buy MW 3 for the single player, but I will play a lot more BF3 multiplayer.

Under normal circumstances I would give the game 9/10 but here are a lot of reviews, which are way to low, so I give 10/10 to balance the score :)
The multiplayer is awesome, and deserves the 10/10. There is nothing to complain about.
The singleplayer is completely scripted which is really annoying (even a CoD is not scripted this bad), but it's a Battlefield, the Singleplayer doesn't

Origin is annoying, but it hasn't really anything to do with the game itself, so it should not appear in the rating. Battlelog is less annoying than I initially thought, and as a stats page its awesome.
The game is exactly what I expected it to be when buying: Big maps, vehicles, tons of enemies to shoot -> Battlefield.
btw: Sorry if my English isn't perfect, but it's not my native language.

first i must say great game. love the MP with all my heart and have been i vet of the series since battlefield 2. This game is a must have for you PC. The team working mechanics work great with squad leaders and Rush has been improved 10 fold. there are only 2 complaints that i have. one is that in conquest your team REALLY matters. if your team sucks you will most likely lose the game. un like rush one man cannot tern the tide of a battle. (which can be good and bad depending on if your playing with friends or not). the other down side that i find to this game is Origin and the use of battlelog. You must have an internet connection to ply this game be it SP or MP which is a big flaw. this is my reason for giving it a 9/10 instead of 10/10. final word is that this game is amazing. the MP alone is worth the $60. and the SP and CO-OP are really just free addons. but if your getting battlefield then your getting it for the MP and it is just down right intense, fun, and balanced. I really wanted to give a higher score but i cannot ignore the glaring issues. Graphics, multiplayer and gameplay are out of this world 9/10, COD will not touch it. Key binding! why allow me to bind my own keys but then during all quick time events make me use the original ones! Too many quick time events too. Still buggy, my comrades got stuck at one point(they continued to shoot at a wall when all enemies were dead), i carried on and eventually it fixed itself. Kept crashing on the last level due to key bindings. walked over invisible rocks. final fight, first time around my enemy was invisible! Multiplayer is excellent, shame about using origin and the browser as it can be very slow. Its such a shame as this game could have been awesome, instead its just good. They probably could have stolen a few COD fans if they had included a couple of smaller maps.

The environments is destructible on a level not seen in any other warfare game - you should see what a level looks like after 30~40 minutes of war with tanks, planes, apcs, soldiers with C4/rocket launchers etc. My only gripe with the game is its foul language, and the SP campaign feels uninspiring, but this is a multiplayer game at its core so SP is extra in this case. Did I like it? THIS GAME IS FANTASTIC!! Expand

I was excited for the Campaign, it looked like an awesome experience I enjoyed the campaign, it may feel like a different game but the way the story comes together and the marines personality makes it feel a lot more better than the campaigns its been inspired from. The marines talk like real marines, it can make them like able but it would have been better to learn about them more. You play as Sgt. Blackburn, a marine in detention (you'll find out why later in the game) two men interrogate him throughout the campaign, you see the choices he and his squad makes, you'll see other solders like Lt. Hawkins, tank driver Miller, and Russian opratives trying to find their missing nukes, Oh yea, missing nukes, its not the best story but battlefield 3 does the story in a unique way making it better than some of the others. The voice acting, lip syncing, sound, and graphics are awesome! A technical marble! The presentation is amazing. The main miss from the campaign is that it feels like a different game, also its only 4-5 hours, meaning the campaign won't fully prepare you for multiplayer, you wont know how to fly jets, helicopters, jeeps, you only get to drive a tank. I mainly played the game for the multiplayer, I like the multiplayer but there are serious issues. Like the hit detection, its bad. Sometimes it will be good, others, well.... ex: you empty your clip into someone just for them to shoot you once and your dead, its annoying. The co op is fun but lacking since there are only six missions don't worry though their fun and one mission will let you practice flying a helicopter. Battlefield has always been about team work and BF3 has ok team work, I've noticed that on the PS3 and PC version people especially work as a team. This is a fun game but needs to be patched cause of bugs and hit detection. Still its an amazing experence and shouldn't be ignored if your an FPS fan. Expand

Awesome game, single player is average or above, but the multiplayer of this game shines like none other. Love the multiplayer and the versatility of the maps. Well conceived warfare, intense firefights, huge maps, tons of players on one map. What is not to like?

A decent, but overall mediocre single player game gives way to a crazy addictive and absolutely perfect multiplayer experience that all fans of shooters should give a try. If you were looking for that one great online experience to trump the rest, this is it.

It's not perfect but it's as good as a multiplayer shooter as you will get. There are still some issues that need to be sorted but I am confident DICE will. Single player is ok. Nothing too special. But lets face it. It's a mp game.

It's all a matter of taste, after all. They each provide a certain type of entertainment – when talking about Battlefield 3, it involves a bigger game, more open in its possibilities and more spectacular. But on a longer timeline, less frantic and with fewer Bruce Willis scenes than the mass appeal beast it set itself to dethrone.
