A somewhat disappointing conclusion to one of the best superhero game series. This game adds a lot from the graphical fidelity to the satisfying and destructive Batmobile. Unfortunately, with everything the game adds, there is a catch. With the graphical upgrade came performance issues and with the Batmobile sections, repetitiveness and uninspired enemy design.

Batman: Arkham Knight is (ostensibly) the final chapter in Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham X series. In it, Batman faces off against Scarecrow, who is seeking revenge for Batman throwing him to Killer Croc in the first game, and the titular Arkham Knight, whose identity you can guess without even playing the game if you are familiar with the comics, and whose identity becomes obvious somewhere in the middle of the game even if you’re not.

This game continues on in the tradition of Arkham City and Arkham Origins in that you play Batman in an open-world city. The map is even bigger this time around, and you are given the Batmobile to drive around in.

The Batmobile is the big new feature of this game, and is very similar to the one seen in the Dark Knight trilogy of movies. It can turn into a tank and move around in any direction while in tank mode. This is essential for fighting the army of tank drones, autonomous vehicles which attack you and the city throughout the game.

Alas, while these sections are okay, they suffer from one major problem: it doesn’t feel very Batman-y. Given that these games are about feeling like Batman, this is something of an issue.

Alas, the rest of the game has little meaningful innovation. The fights in this game are bigger than ever, with a fight in the Batmobile against 60 drones, and fights against large numbers of goons appearing at various points in the game, as well as even more complex predator encounters, where you sneak around and pick off armed guards, including medics who can revive their allies, people who you can’t see through walls with detective vision, and huge goons with miniguns. The biggest innovation in the predator sequences is the so-called fear takedown, where you can take down a whole group of goons in sequence from hiding without them being able to shoot you while doing so.

Alas, this isn’t very innovative, and the predator sequences and the fighting with goons sequences don’t feel very fresh or new. And while that’s okay to some extent, the lack of really interesting new enemies is kind of discouraging.

Added onto this are the boss fights, or rather, the lack thereof. This game is very obsessed with the Batmobile, and unfortunately, a lot of the new boss fights are Batmobile centric. And indeed, the main boss of the game is the Arkham Knight, who you fight over and over again in various guises. This isn’t so bad – the fights are actually all unique – but they’re big on flash and not so big on substance. Cool fights – like the Doctor Freeze fight from the second game – aren’t really on the menu here, and while some of the fights are okay, and sneaking around blowing up tanks in the Batmobile is kind of neat in its own way, in the end, it feels a bit repetitive at times after a while.

The other villains are by and large much less interesting, sadly. Two-Face and Penguin make an appearance, but they’re just reskinned mooks, and are taken out in the same way. Deathstroke shows up again but is in a tank which is mostly a rehash of a previous fight in the game, Man-Bat is not really a boss at all, and while Firefly is a different take on the fight, it doesn’t feel terribly boss-like and is more of a racing sequence. Indeed, apart from the titular Arkham Knight, the only real boss-feeling enemy in the game is the Riddler, who pilots a gigantic mecha to take you out after you solve all of his riddles… again. This is actually a somewhat interesting fight, in part because it makes use of the switching mechanic which shows up in a few fights where you fight as two characters in the same fight, switching from one to another as you do team attacks, or just when you feel like it.

Unfortunately, the Scarecrow himself doesn’t show up in any meaningful capacity as an enemy – gone are the cool sequences from Arkham Asylum, replaced by and large with cut scenes. There are a couple of neat sequences, particularly towards the end of the game, but ultimately the game doesn’t do a whole lot with Scarecrow.

And indeed, this leaks over into the story as well – Scarecrow and the Arkham Knight are both pretty generic and uninteresting, and the game as a whole is a mostly bland revenge plot with one real twist which is kind of neat and involves the (deceased) Joker. Indeed, the Joker is again the highlight of this game, which is kind of sad because he’s, well, dead the whole game. On the whole, the plot isn’t terribly interesting or exciting, and it feels very much like you’re just bludgeoning your way through, rather than taking control of the situation in the way that it felt like you were doing in Arkham Asylum.

The game as a whole isn’t tight. I 100%ed the game and took about 70 hours doing it according to my Steam play time, though I suspect it was less than that and I just left the game running for a while a few times while alt-tabbed out. And unfortunately, this game felt long.

Short and sweet, no bugs game has some filler quests but not unbearingly a lot. The major problem is combat is exactly the same after 3 games and frankly its boring as hell. It doesn't help that the Joker once again has a major role in the game which made me feel as if we've been there and done that. There's I think one new minor enemy thrown into combat to mix things up.

Frankly the best part of the game was when you weren't Batman, which is kind of saying something when it's a Batman game.

The game's not bad but it definitely has that been there and done that feel, not only by the Arkham series but other generic open world games as well.

To be clear, I played this game after they fixed the horrible initial port version. It's a Batman game. The voice acting is superb, fighting is fun. Your typical Arkham game. This game has this, but I never really felt like that super cool Bat in the dark type feeling. That's what the first game nailed so well, you were Batman. This game relies too heavily on awful tank battles. Nearly every notable boss battle was in the Bat-Tank. Really disappointing because one of the strong suits of the previous two games was the intuitive and really cool boss fights. This game makes the boss fights probably the least fun part of the game, when it used to be one of the strongest aspects. I mean, you fight Deathstroke in a tank. Deathstroke, the world's greatest assassin, uses a freaking tank to fight Batman. Pretty lame if you ask me. Get it on sale if you want, it's an okay end to the series. Oh and don't you dare buy the season pass. Absolutely awful. Some of the worst DLCs I've ever seen. Expand

Story is boring and you can see all the twists coming for a mile away even if you aren't a batman comic or cartoon fan. Joker is the only saving grace for the story the voice acting for him is wonderful absolutely amazing. He is the only reason i kept playing this game to the end. He kept me laughing and entertained throughout. The Arkham Knights identity is spoiled half way through the game without being intentional as far as I could tell. The big reveal at the end isn't that great since you know who it is by then. I don't want to spoil it for you since the game does it nicely all by its self. The game takes about 17 hours to finish the story with little to no side quests and that is awesome value for the money. If this came out and Arkham City never did this would have been an amazing game but it is the same and that is a shame. If you want a game to spend the money on get Witcher 3 and wait for this game to come down in price.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm a huge, huge, HUGE Arkham series fan and literally love the previous games in the series for the amazing pacing, rich world and cool gameplay.... but Arkham Knight disappoints!

NOTE: This is not a performance review, nor a port rant, nor a technical complaint of any kind. It's a game review for what the game is about. Possible SPOILERS bellow.

To me the game worked just fine. Crashed only twice, didn't experience any major gameplay and also weren't much bothered with the 30 FPS cap which note is for all platforms. Yes, I would have liked to have higher frame rates but it wouldn't stop me enjoy my top favorite game series for the last 5 years.

    TIPS: To have best performance:
    1. Disable NVIDIA Enhanced Smoke, it's the biggest performance hog, though even with it is still playable
    2. This is the bad one. Use an SSD for the game install. I don't have a stellar spec machine but to me it worked fine with stable 30 frames (it hitched from times to times but not that hard and not often at all)
    3. If you unlock the frames you will notice the ups and downs in frame rate far more and the enjoyment will be far less

Now for the review itself… Why did I give my top favorite series last installation a 6... Sadly because it has too much flaws in almost everything that it tries to do. The game offers you a rather sizable city with so many options to explore that at some point you can't feel anything but overwhelmed by it. Rocksteady, the developers behind the series seem to have forgotten what made the previous games so good. It was a very solid and fine tuned progression, very focused experience. The story felt fresh and engaging and the asylum/city was full of rich details and areas to explore. The Catwoman addon to Arkham City was a great add on to Batman’s story and she felt unique and very diverse to play with

With Arkham Knight, things are different. The game includes the addition of the Batmobile and it tries really hard to force it down your throat and convince you how great it is... which sadly was not the case. Inherently there are no major problems with the Batmobile, but we enter this world to be the Batman... not his car and as such the car should have been more of an extension of his tool belt rather than a mandatory companion of many of the games forced car sequences.

Sadly the combat has suffered as well. There are some great additions to enemy variety and abilities. The medics make you think more often about your priorities, charging enemies interrupt your established flow and Batman's move list feels radically improved, but with that.... Gone is the clarity in combat, gone is the precise impact and interaction with the enemies, gone is even the slightest intimidation that any big enemy group provides.

You can easily overcome any group of enemies with all the things that you can do and the combat has suffered in several aspects because of that expanded variety. Moves performed by the characters didn't contact properly. Everything happens so fast, but you still notice how limbs don’t do what they were supposed to. The combat felt more hectic and chaotic than in previous games. More noticeable were big particle effects on every punch, which to my opinion weren't really necessary. And not with the addition of all secondary playable characters, combat doesn't feel unique it's more of a thing to do, doesn't really matter how you do it, just don't die, don't kill the objective too early (interrogations), and .... Don’t care with which character are you doing it considering they are practically identical and appear for no more than 10 minutes of screen time.

I did mention the big city, this however didn't mean that the city has suffered in detail (similarly to the city created in Origins) It's a very beautiful and detail rich city. There are quite a number of small details in the environment if you walk down the streets and take the time to explore.... which you never do, nor does the game encourage you. The constant all direction sense of urgency and danger makes you run (mostly fly) from spot to spot without noticing much where are you currently and what’s around you. Many of the city set pieces were never explored fully (like the underground old Gotham or even less the over ground new Gotham)

You mostly fly/drive around beating the living hell of anything that moves... Because you are Batman... Your team is astonishingly incompetent (Oracle, Nightwing, Robin) and the bad guys have you so often dead to rights that at some point you wonder how are you still alive.

Don’t get me wrong. All in all, I did like the game. There were some incredibly written set pieces and parts of the story was greatly enjoyable to see how they will unfold, but sadly this was not the majority of the game littered with the issue of too big goals, too poor execution and great lack of focus spread too thin all . The predictable story and the forced Batmobile didn’t help either.

First of all, even 7 years on, the game looks gorgeous; the lights of Gotham to the Rain on your armour, genuinely looks phenomenal even after all this time.
The story is very good, very comic-book esque, one can tell they took inspiration from the Knightfall comics, where Batman needs to round up all the villains in one night.

Scarecrow has proven to be a solid big-time Villain, a lot of the time we think that it has to be The Joker, or Bane, Poison Ivy, and I feel like a lot of the time Scarecrow gets pushed into being more of a side villain; but making him the primary antagonist and using the Fear Toxin in creative ways, genuinely great writing.

Gameplay plays similar to what we're used to from Arkham Asylum, if you've played the Middle Earth Shadow of War type games you'll feel right at home with this, or even Spider-man on the Playstation.

The Batmobile: People tend to be very mixed on this, most of the people I've seen reviewing or talking about the game seem to talk about the Batmobile negatively, I personally, quite liked it, having the walking tank and blowing up the drones. I think if you view the Batmobile exactly as what it is, a walking tank used to take down things Batman can't do on foot, and understand that Batman -needs- this in order to proceed with saving Gotham, you might view it like I do; as a good addition to the series.

Side Quests: Gotham's Most Wanted, in my opinion, is great, the fact we can go around and apprehend other villains free in Gotham at our own leisure in their own self-contained storylines is interesting and fun to see how they play out. Furthermore I highly recommend if you buy this game to get the Season of Infamy - Most Wanted DLC, this gives you four extra baddies with their own short storylines to apprehend. But the best part about that DLC is that it blends in -seamlessly- with the main story, you don't feel like you're heading to a specific DLC area, it just all flows into what you want to do next. This is the best way to do DLC's in my opinion.

Generally, I can highly recommend Arkham Knight, it took me around 24 hours or so to do all of the Most Wanted DLC, the Story and all of the other Baddy storylines (Except for the Riddler Trophys). It was very fun, kept pulling me back. I feel if you're a Batman fan, whether of the films or the comics, you will be hard-pressed to dislike this game.

It deserves to be ratedly poorly so that people are aware and saved from spending money on this game. Graphically, the game is beautiful, and when the game DOES work properly it is easy to see how fun it will but.

Graphically, the game is beautiful, and when the game DOES work properly it is easy to see how fun it will but. However, evne on beast rigs the game cannot maintain any amount of constant FPS. It's locked to 30 FPS because even the developers knew upon release there was trouble.

Even unlocking to 60 fps though, doesn't help. When moving around the city from high above (regardless of game settings) you will have 15-30 FPS drops (no matter what your usual max is) and when driving the bat mobile you will actually have drops down to 5-10 fps (even on a high end computer like myself)

Save the money...show devs this is not cool.

The only reason I gave it a 5, and not a 1 like everyone else is because I still think this game is good, and the console versions are probably nice..but as for PC port...no...just no. Can't believe Rocksteady let this happen.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. AK wants to be more of everything, and this is where it fails.

The basis of the game is solid and where this game simply is an additional version of its predecessors, it works fine: Flying through the city, hand-to-hand-combat, voice-acting and especially the over-arching joker-related parts are superb.

But where it tries to add onto the tried and true formula, it fails horribly:
    - The new story is just too much of everything. Does it really have to be such a doom scenario?
    - The character of the Arkham Knight is shale and stereotypical. Plus, his vast arsenal of mercenaries and resources going unnoticed is just silly.
    - Technology always was a bit too over-the-top in the Batman universe, but this time, it is just too much to be still believable. The voice imitation device? Instant hacking of everything?
    - Logical flaws (like being allegedly unable to hack a number-pad, because it contains no electrical parts ... wtf? ... just to make you use some admittedly nice surveillance camera trick).
    - The worst offender now is the Batmobile. Sure, it is fun driving around, but it is so grossly overpowered and this whole drone-thing that comes with it is just lame. Reminds me of the old C&C days, where the soldiers (in Germany) were allegedly only robots with green blood. Sure.
    - Framerate drops and stuttering as soon as you call the Batmobile.
    - During an extended and repeated chase scene, you fall through the ground and have to drive for five minutes to make up the lost distance because apparently every tank can drive as fast as the Batmobile.
    - Batman does not kill, but he rams people while going over 100 km/h, be they on foot or in a car. Very meh.
    - Far too many riddler riddles. 247 or so. Artificially bloated gameplay.

So while the basics are ok and the Joker-Batman-thing is great and the real core of the game, the rest is a major game-design fail.

And don't get me started on the port.

This should have been so much better.

Terrible optimization aside, the game is underwhelming on all fronts compared to its predecessors, most notably in its storytelling and pacing. While the previous Arkham games worked despite their plentifully cliched dialogues and archetypal characters thanks to a well-woven main story, it is obvious that the third installment's writing is a far cry from what Rocksteady presented in its collaboration with Paul Dini up until now. Add to that the game's heavy reliance on repetitive and immersion-breaking drone fight orgies, and you have a textbook example of how to run an exceptional series into the heaviest depths of mediocrity. Just like its quasi-mystifying ending (which 90% of us will see only on youtube anyway thanks to some terrific design choices), the game tries to convince you that it's original and smart in some way, when in truth it is quite simply badly done. Cheers, Rocksteady!

I don't get what everyone is saying about the 30 fps. Is this an AMD thing? I started up the game and it pointed to the latest nvidia driver. After installing that i did the PC performance test and was getting between 75 and 28 frames averaging about 45-50 on an old gtx770. Admittedly this was while it was still on low settings but it was at 1080p.

At 720p i was getting similar results with normal to high settings. Never saw anything locking it to 30 fps. It even hit well over 30 fps average with v sync on...

I will reserve judgement on the game until i have played more but in terms of the actual GAME it seems to follow the same fantastic formula of the previous games in the series. The fighting and exploring are as good as ever, not had experience with the batmobile but if it is anything like gta or saints row then I'll be happy.

Overall if you like the other games in the sites you will like this BUT the launch has been marred by poor performance. Even without the 30fps issue i think a gtx770 should produce better results, i have 12gb ram and 2 x quad Xeon processors at 3ghz so I'm comfortably in the recommended system requirements! However it will probably be fixed quickly with an update based on the poor responses all over the Internets. Then it will be an 8 or 9 game at least.

I went straight to the Benchmark and "Maxed" everything out which was funny as there are no Ultra settings and only minimal changes can be made. I've never seen a game where dialing down the settling made the FPS worse but Heyho. I managed an average of 46 FPS at 1080P with AA and V-Sync on running:

i7 4770 3.4, GTX 970, 16 GB Ram and installed on an SSD. Maybe I was better off due to the SSD. I cap my FPS at 60 anyway cos I'm using a Sony TV (don't hate me) I never got lower than 30 fps on the BM. I don't know where this thing about capping at 30 fps is coming from. I could have got about 52 without Volumetric Smoke but screw that its the best feature.

Anyway I fired up the game and the real world playtest went ok, yep just Ok. Textures look low quality and some movement stutters and its a real shame. Had high hopes for this. Regretting buying on PC even with the low cost as the PS4 version is probably better optimised. I thought PC users deserve better and can't understand why this was so poorly put together, WB/R* changing the minimum AMD GPU the night before release says it all. They knew there was a problem. Mines playable but I might come back to this after a few patches. Shame on you R*.

First things first. The game - mostly - works for me. When I bought my PC some years back it was a high end gaming rig but now it's just middle class anymore (i7 3.4 GHz processor, nVidia 560ti, 8 gig RAM) so I don't really mind the 30 fps framecap. Having grown up with 8 or 16bit pixel games I never cared too much about a few more or less fps anyway as long as the graphics run smooth.First things first. The game - mostly - works for me. Having grown up with 8 or 16bit pixel games I never cared too much about a few more or less fps anyway as long as the graphics run smooth.

I also had a blast with Arkham Asylum and Arkham City is one of my most favourite games of all times but even though Arkham Knight doesn't run too bad on my machine I'm pretty disappointed with it:

    1. It's a joke how they treated the PC port. I shouldn't be one of the few guys this game mostly works with, bugs should be the exception of the rule, not the rule itself.

    2. The bugs and glitches I had were still pretty annoying. I'm at 74% now and so far I had five crashes and some very annoying glitches and bugs (not being able to get out of the batmobile, not being able to pick up Riddler Question Marks from solved puzzles, health bar not regaining after fights and one time when I loaded up my save Batman even was UNDER Gotham City and kept falling and falling into a black abyss - Reload didn't help, "fortunately" a system restart did)

    3. The quests are nothing like in the last two games. Most missions are boring and repetitive fetch quests á la Dragon Age Inquisition: Free x Fireman, destroy x shields, find x bodies, disarm x bombs, extuingish x fires, destroy x enemy towers, etc etc ... Giving the long time they took for developement and especially the much greater variety of the Arkham Games before (heck, even Origins was more interesting here) this was extremely disappointing ...

    4. Overuse of the Batmobile: Often one more feels like in a Batman-GTA than in a real Arkham title. Over and over again the game forces you to use and fight with the Batmobile and those fights usually are extremely boring and repetitive.

    5. I'm only giving the game a five at all because of the interesting main story, the - basically unchanged and so still great - melee fighting system, some (but much too few) great side quests and the old Arkham feeling which still flashes through during certain missions when you have to use stealth and ingeniosity to neutralize your foes like in the Arkham games before.

Overall though, this game is pretty disappointing. It's still a not too bad game but a huge disappointment for the last installment of the Arkham series. I would have given one point more if Rocksteady wouldn't have treated the PC gamers like second class citizens. But even without that and given how great Rocksteady's predecessors were I still can't believe how devoid of imagination Arkham Knight is.

Same old, same old. Arkham Knight is way overrated, I seriously couldn't get past the first two hours due to pure boredom. Tank is a nice addition, but this isn't a shooter! What could of been a good game is turned into in absolute mess with forcing you to use the batmobile for such a large percentage of the game. Unfortunately this overuse of the batmobile turns a good game into a bad one. Arkham Knight really shines when on foot but in the batmobile it really suffers.

My two cents on the game has nothing to do with the performance issues some people are having, as that has been made abundantly clear by many of the reviewers.

It's unfortunate that they have not been able to play the game (or maybe just refuse to play out of protest) so that they could give a fair review on the game itself instead of using metacritic as an outlet to air frustrations

It's unfortunate that they have not been able to play the game (or maybe just refuse to play out of protest) so that they could give a fair review on the game itself instead of using metacritic as an outlet to air frustrations about the way it performs.

That being said, I was fortunate enough not to have game breaking glitches and crashes, and found out how to unlock the 30 FPS lock through the .ini file (quite simple to do and takes a whole 2 minutes to accomplish) so I was able to play the game to (near) completion.

I have to hand it to the story writers of the game, as writing the story for this game was clearly a labor of love, and they had to have some talented people working for them that really have respect for the batman universe, and I personally have no objections with the way they've wrapped up this series (as far as the story is concerned...more below!).

On the other hand though, the mechanisms they used to deliver this story (gameplay) was something that I have serious problems with. This title is loaded with anti-climactic non-engagements with many of the main villains, and has absolutely ZERO boss fights.

Some will argue that the vehicle battles with the Arkham Knight leading up to the final encounter with him would count as a boss fight, or that the final vehicle battle with Deathstroke is a boss fight (which is exactly the same tank battle as the one with the Arkham Knight). Those people would be missing the point entirely. There is absolutely no direct engagement with any of Batman's rivals WHAT. SO. EVER. Not in any way that should be considered a "boss fight" anyway.

It's almost kind of cruel that the game is designed for you to go through the "Most Wanted" quest lines, which are basically side quests that have the player going after the various major villains that are central to the Batman stories, and once the player completes the quest line, they might be rewarded with a pseudo-boss fight (as with Deathstroke), or get to make a "life-or-death" decision (as with the Azrael quest line), but no actual fight or battle takes place that presents the player with anything that resembles a challenge.

Having a great story is a very important part of a great game, but robbing your customers and fans of any sort of finality or closure by not giving them any engagement whatsoever with any villain in the game other than vehicle fights and skirmishes with henchmen is, at least in my mind, extremely lazy and unforgivable.

The script for this game would have been better off being sold off to an animation studio for another animated Batman movie because that's essentially what Rocksteady gave us with this title...an interactive animated movie.

It's unfortunate because up to this point, I really enjoyed the blending of a great story with an action packed games through the Arkham titles, with boss battles that while not the most difficult in the world, presented some challenge and kept me engaged with the story that was being conveyed. The formula for Arkham Knight just fell way too short for me.

I would strongly recommend waiting to find this game in the bargain bin, or on one of the crazy awesome sales on Steam. Definitely do yourselves a favor and don't make the same mistake I did by paying full price for this "game."

That Christmas I bowed to the wife’s pressure and we got one. He loved it and enjoyed playing with it, and now I know I was wrong. He spoke to it, played with it, and they sang songs together. That was until a month later when the batteries where low. In a scene that reminded me of the invasion of the body snatchers, it opened its eyes and screeched until it slowly died. I was scared and it was only missing a hand to raise its finger and point. My 6-year-old son screamed in terror and threw it away.

Batman: Arkham Knight reminds me of that moment.

I heard all the reviews all the spouting about it being a bad port but still wanted to play it. I knew the fears but still thought that I might be able to fix any technical issues, I am fair well versed so was quietly confident.
From the beginning, I had every issue under the sun, flickering, low frame rates, mouse problems, high memory issues, and even having to sit through the introduction screen every minute as I reloaded. I tried every fix the internet gave me but nothing worked fully.
The background flickered enough to give a blind man a seizure.
Batman looked like a porcupine on steroids.
And even closing the game brought issues over into my os.

But I managed to play a little and in those small moments when the game managed to hold it together long enough. Oh what joy, speaking as batman, descending into the city and rough play with the locals as we sang and danced together. Such delightful memories!
Fantastic levels of intuitive gameplay, the batman fighting system is so great it hard to put into words as you remember the glories of its lineages. It’s not a bad port, however, it does suffer from extremely bad coding issues, with no sign of being fixed anytime soon.
Even still gameplay got so bad I couldn’t see the NPCs and it felt like fighting in the dark… And I cried and screamed like a frightened 6-year-old boy… I threw it all in and uninstalled it in a stroppy temper.

The moral of the story, Rocksteady Studios is the fathers prejudiced. Blindly trying to develop the most visually stunning game that is currently possible without though of any value. Sure the graphics are fantastic but at the cost of bad coding and ostracising lower end pcs. Forgetting for a moment about the serious coding issues, this puts the whole common ethos of modern developers and clearly marks it as WRONG. It’s called PC gaming not PC benchmark testing, and sometimes in over-exuberance, they forget this and create the monstrous “Arkham Knight” effect. A game designed to look great without any thought if gamers can actually play it.

Sadly the only thing that remains is to take out the batteries and leave it to go dusty in the attic. Rocksteady is working to fix this and it must have been a huge issue to take this long. But only time will if this will a horror movie … imagine Furby 2: The Revenge. I shudder to think.

Only riddler objects are green. Everything else is some shade of gray-red. This causes a significant eye strain on the player due to the fact everything is hard to see in your periphery. Very often I am hit simply because I did not see the enemy in time. Red Counter enemies can be hard to identify, because their prompt is red like everything else. This lack of contrast makes for a very frustrating experience.

Red Unavoidable - There are certain enemies that have undefendable “red prompts” during combat. In Arkham City this was limited to a selection of enemies. I did not like the red prompts in Arkham City that much since it was a little difficult to remember how to counter them, at first. Eventually, I could remember. In AK there are too many red prompts, so I can not keep track of how to counter what.

The Good - Dual Team Combat, new Big Guys (electrical is my favorite), playing as Nightwing and Catwoman. Oh wait, I played as those guys in Arkham City. Not much has improved on Batman’s combat.

Preadator difficulty - The difficulty in predator missions has been massively nerfed. Instead of a scenario in which Batman must think how to achieve the goal, you simply attack the guards one by one in any order. You can use the numerous floor grates the Gotham City Council put in everywhere for no apparent reason. Or you can use the many perches, vents, tight rope wires, etc. Most predator maps have roughly the same number of safety zones like perches and vents, so there is not much variety.

Alarm Collars - Every predator mission feels the same to me, the challenge barely changes. The neck collars worn by inmates in Arkham City no longer exist, there is nothing replacing or improving that mechanic. Players can kill enemies in any order without fear of getting caught often, since guards have idea who is dead until they walk near them. If guards walk near them it is very easy to attack them as well. Most of my predator missions ended with a solitary pile of guard bodies.

Silent Takedowns - The radius for takedowning enemies has been increased, thereby decreasing the difficulty too much. There is little risk in performing a silent takedown.

Fear Takedowns - Fear takedowns were enjoyable at first, because it looked cool and played in to the dominating aspect of Batman. However, as the game went on I realized they became a crutch for players.

Environmental Takedowns - In Arkham City environmental takedowns stunned enemies, forcing the player to swoop in and kill or merely use it as a distraction. In AK they kill on contact.

Driving - Driving the Batmobile in AK seems like the coolest feature ever. Hooray, the BATMOBILE!! Instead, it becomes an unnecessary device in Batman’s arsenal. The Batmobile can drive through anything, and I mean anything. Mailboxes, traffic lights, freeway supports, sides of buildings, churches, etc. Few objects in AK stop the player from driving the Batmobile. Batman AK is no GTA, Gran Turismo, or Mario Kart, I get that, it is not a driving game. But that’s exactly the problem. Driving is too easy in AK, there is no challenge to it. The car makes things too easy in some cases, such as killing riddler spies, and allowing the player to run down APCs. There are even a number potential predator missions that are finished completely by a few hits of the Batmobile’s Bathowitzer. Driving the Batmobile DOES NOT fit within the fantasy of Batman.

Tank mode - Driving the Battank is by far, the worst experience in a Batman game. It is the most repetitive and least interesting part of Batman AK. All you do is slide away from enemy fire, then shoot. Slide, then shoot. Slide, then shoot. It gets repetitive fast, and lacks any depth. There are special weapons like the EMP blast or missile barrage, but they grow old quick since they require very little skill. After enough tanking those special weapons are only used because it means the tank battle will be over soon. Battank battles do not fit within the fantasy of Batman.

The final boss battle in Batman Arkham Knight was just a repeat of the previous Cloudburst tank battle. Except this time it was easier. Woooo.

That’s it, one boss battle and it is a copy and paste of a previous encounter. Very big letdown to have no bosses in a game like this. I think riddler has a boss battle, but I won’t be playing long enough to encounter it.

Batman: AK could have been an epic conclusion to the Arkham series. Instead, the features they decided to add to the game detracted from the original game. Batman is someone who sneaks around and out-thinks his prey, getting into hand-to-hand combat when necessary (and kicking ass when he does). Batman does not do most of his work

    As for the story:
Gotham City is completely evacuated (yet again), so no innocent civilians and you battle unmanned drones. How convenient. Nice way to avoid any morality struggle with your hero. In GTA you try not to deliberately run over pedestrians, unless you're a psychopath. And there are consequences for doing it frequently (cops come after you). To exemplify how not very well thought out this story is: Gordon gets kidnapped twice! Seems kind of redundant.

After I shut down every other application, I ran the game...seemed to run find this time. I still don't know what caused it but I sincerely doubt it was due to a shortage of ram.

I got into the game, I was fully aware of the fact that it was capped at 30fps. I wanted to play it just as is first before messing with the ini file. Naturally turned up everything to the highest settings and the result was extremely poor performance, frame drops and tons of stuttering. It is not playable. I then turned down the settings which does not help it much. The astonishing thing is that even with settings turned up high the game graphically does not look good. When I went around searching for the issues on the internet, there are clear images showing the astonishing amount of detail on the PS4 version of the game and the surprising lack of texture detail on the PC version. Stuff like shadows, rain physics are extremely poor on the PC on the PC version.

I proceeded to fiddle around in the ini file to set the framerate to 60fps/120fps to see if it would help anything. Nope still broken. The game is an unoptimized mess and until it is patched unplayable.

Arkham City is better game in all aspects. As a fan of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City I am very disappointed with Arkham Knight and wish I have not wasted my time on this "epic finale" of the trilogy. What is the point of playing the game anyway when you can't even get it running smoothly and make you get frustrated all the time?

Activision, EA, Ubisoft are no doubt the top worst game companies, but I think it is safe to say that WB has now joined the list too.

While a decent game may well lie at the heart of Arkham Knight, an unforgivably poor PC port means that its impossible to properly assess the game on its merits. Unless you are running a cutting edge rig, this game should be avoided, purely based on its absymal performance.

    - streaming textures system

    - denuvo (confirmed by devs from LotF that its consuming 5-10% CPU power)

The laziest port I've seen of a game in a long, long time. It takes some going to outdo Assassin's Creed: Unity in the "did you even playtest this thing before release?" stakes, but Arkham Knight comfortably achieves that and more.

It is so unplayable that I can't actually review the game itself, as I can't get beyond 20 minutes of it before the constant frame rate stuttering gives you eye ache. It's a game that relies on fast paced fluid combat and hectic car driving sequences; both of which are an absolute nightmare at this frame rate.

On top of that there are glitches and the game was even removed from Steam if I remember correctly. For itself the game follows the formula of the predecessors. 9 months have passed since the events of Arkham City. Scarecrow is threatening Gotham City with his fear toxin. The whole city is evacuated and Batman has to deal with this menace. Additionally there is a new enemy the Arkham Knight who knows more about Batman then it seems. The story is good and immersive from start to finish. There is something that I cant spoil that makes it enjoyable and is a good twist or idea. Alone this makes the game better and I was most entertained. However the Arkham Knight was disappointing. When you have even a little knowledge you think about who he could be and make a conclusion that it could not be a certain character as it would be much too obvious, a letdown and boring. It was that character and they advertised the Arkham Knight as something special and mysterious. The addition that we all were hyped for was the Batmobile. While being firstly satisfying and awesome it gets soon boring and repetitive. After a while you want to skip using it. Then there is the true ending. You have too solve all Riddlers trophies to get it. It is a waste of time as there are over 200 and I as nearly all others don't have the patience to do this. Luckily there is YouTube for this. The gameplay is rock solid or stays at the formula of the Arkham games and the stealth and free flow combat system is satisfying. You get also new gadgets that are satisfying. Warning: Some can be missed or skipped. The graphics are ranging from good to truly awful in this game. While I am the person that defends poor graphics when the gameplay is good this time it is also a letdown. The soundtrack is O.K. Overall this game was a mess and should be avoided. You can get a far better experience on PS4 and XBOX ONE. Expand

I do not recommend this game as a Batman game, but if you want an easy and repetitive combat game that makes you feel good about yourself as an easy win, this game is for you. The only challenge is your patience to not download a mod to speed up your vehicle, so you can finish the game more quickly and see what you expected from the very beginning play out. The game telegraphs the ending from the very beginning.

They were responsible for the broken PC version of Arkham Origins and responsible for the poor optimization of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on XBO and PS4.

So here we are again, with Rocksteady handing off their BIGGEST IP to a studio utterly incapable of handling the work, resulting in a really bad port with performance problems, frequent crashes, terrible memory optimization, hard capped frames per second, texture bugs, and other issues. Rocksteady and WB have said they're aware of the problems and are supposedly working on getting them sorted but bear in mind they said similar things about the problems with Arkham Origins, most of which STILL exist.

I'm just thankful it was a freebie for picking up a newer nVidia card. Had I paid for this by itself, I'd be absolutely livid. I honestly don't know why I expected better, most AAA devs could give less than a damn about PC gamers, as we've repeatedly seen this generation (Watch Dogs, Titanfall, DeadRising 3, Ryse, Assassin's Creed, and now Batman, just to name a few).

Second, the devs seem to be ecstatic on the idea of a bat-tank, to the point that they tried cramming it into every possible mission, and quite a few others as well. Enjoy parkour with a bat-tank! Or you would, as it handles like a drunk ice-skater. Seriously, the last time I experienced a car that slides around that much, I had a plane of ice underneath a couple inches of snow. These tank missions become boring, annoying and very repetitive quite fast, and overstay their welcome.

The repetitive missions are the last big problems. It seems the devs answer to a fast mission is to force you to repeat it two or three times. The manbat mission is a perfect example: chase, capture, use injector. Even the animation is the same. Every. Single. Time.

tl;dr: refund category trainwreck for now.

I don't understand how people ask for reviews to be held back for patches and then review. Since when are games judged by unannounced patches that might take 1-2 months to fix the issues they have? Games always have and always will be reviewed by their state at release.

The game is locked at 30fps, the textures are just plain bad in a lot of areas, the gameworks settings do absolutely nothing to the graphics, lights are flickering and the fps drops to mid 20s or even worse all the time. PC running the game, i7 4790K, GTX 970, 16gigs RAM and game is on an SSD.

Truly disappointed, this could be the new worst PC port in existence.

Totally unplayable. stuttering after 5-15 minutes of gaming. Yeah, game is good, interesting plot, good graphics and sound, and bla-bla-bla. But what is the point of all these if game not working. Worst port ever, even worse than Watch Dogs.

Well, the Batman game franchise has become a bloated cash-cow, risk free game design makes for a pretty predictable experience...if you are new to the series you may garner enjoyment from it, but for me the format has become too stale even with the Batmobile shoehorned into the proceedings. Batman is in dire need of a clean slate.

This video game is a complete disgrace and not worth a single penny out of the $60 price tag. They should offer refunds to everyone who has bought the game and work on it and re-release it when it is somewhat polished for PC.

Terrible consoleport with very bad optimization! Do not buy this game on pc! It does NOT make sense to give your money to a company that offers such a bad product! This game is obviously another **** port on pc to save couple bucks. The devs let another not well-known dev team port it to pc, and the same not well known team ported arkham origins to pc as well which we all know had lots of bugs. Idc if the game is day one or not. It should have been fine with no gimmicks right out of the box. It is nobody's fault but the developer's. The framerate is locked at 30 and even then gets down to 15fps many times. Yes, you can make the fps higher in settings, but it wont go any higher really. The frame rate will drop suddenly and randomly if you do. The attention to detail is just not there. Nobody should buy this game, we need to boycott lazy products like this, or else we will always be fed **** and expect nothing less. No, we should expect our games to work day one. You don't buy a brand new car and expect there to be issues and problems with it . You don't buy a brand new phone and expect it to have problems with it day one either. Why should we settle for bull**** like this? There shouldnt have to be patches, the **** should work. Expand

Unable to play at the moment, the Download kept crashing on Steam for several hours, and next to this the game folder was deleted just by clicking "verify cache" :((((((((
Once the game is installed, it is so bad with the fps and so choppy especially with the Noob-mobile, the game feels like a basic portage from Ps4/XB1 to the PC which is soooooo bad for an anticipated 2015 AAA game.

A super shady port....I wouldn't bother until Denuvo is cracked.Game isnt worth a dollar in its current state....Way to burn all the good will after the decent ports that were AA and AC.

Dull plot with bad gaming mechanics with car. Abandoned after 3 hours. Big fun of other games. So what happened?

Game is totally broken. Problems with installation, impossible to play even on pc with recommended requirements fulfilled - 2-3 FPS on lowest possible settings. And what do You know - they withdrew it from steam sale cause it's so incomplete and broken. STAY AWAY! At least for a year, maybe till then it will be fixed enough to play.

Very bad port with fps lock. The game was already delayed but the quality still terrible. Got a refund for PC version. Maybe it will be playable next year, but now it's a big NO.

Texture quality seems like the game is made 5 years ago, and overall visuals look worse than the PS4 version. Making things worse, even with low quality graphics, my titan x sli cannot hold 30fps while riding the batmobile. Totally broken port. Giving this game 1 instead of 0 because it seems like rocksteady will fix the problems.

Simplesmente não dá pra jogar. Versão PC deixada de lado. Acho que foi um tiro no pé da Warner, perderam muitos pontos nesse lançamento. Acredito que não conseguirão resolver o problema, se assim fosse já tinham resolvido.

I can see how PC Master race playing this game with hugest pleasure now. 16k resolution with 120 fps available only for PC users! Consoles peasants can suck dick, only this version for real gamers! Awesome optimization, just like GTA IV for PC in 2008.

This is the exact same game as before. It is absolutely identical.
At least Asylum had interesting level design, both City and Knight are just the exact same thing over and over again, what garbage.
At least City was a functional product, never mind the greedy as **** and obnoxious DLC practices, at least it worked and was decently optimized, this piece of crap doesn't even run right,

This is literally Assassin Knight Arkham Rehash 7, DO NOT BUY.

Playing as Batman? Awesome. Playing as Batman through repetitive, empty missions? Less awesome. Playing as the Batmobile? Awful.

Porting issues aside, Batman: Arkham Knight is a decent enough game. It's not the spectacular swansong we hoped for from Rocksteady, but it's another solid - if predictable - slice of Arkham gameplay, with a couple of great sections along the way.

An entertaining superhero power fantasy, let down by awful Batmobile combat, a laughable villain, and serious performance issues.
