AC: Valhalla doesn't exactly re-invent the formula, but i think for now it's a good thing.
They fixed what went wrong with Odyssey and brought back missing elements while making story, characters and world better. With next one they need to do some complete overhaul, but Valhalla is good beginning for next era Assassin's Creed games.

Ubisoft really did well with this one, been at least 3 years when i actually enjoyed their games. Odyssey was fine, but boring really fast. Valhalla feels like breath of fresh air.

Okay, this game is really good : great open-world, multiple side-quests - it's a well made singleplayer rpg. The problem is... that it is not an Assassin's Creed game. Stealth? Forget about it. Parkour is non-existent. Of course, you can climb on the tower etc. but your character will just get stuck, glitch and you will be detected. Okay then, what about assassinations? If you want to assassinate anyone in this game, you have to be either on at least their level, or have a special skill, that you can unlock in a skill tree. Look , i am not saying that this game is bad, it is just not good Assassin's Creed game. Expand

Positives: It looks pretty good and it has some nice RP elements that break the monotony and present variety in objectives and game play. Combat feels great when it's not infested with bugs like my late grandma's garden.

Movement somehow feels worse than previous games. I hate the level progression system. Combat feels good 50% of the time. Decided to just play the main story and then I had to uninstall out of frustration. The story itself is fine, but the main character feels so inconsistent at times. I don't feel like cheering on for him/her.

If someone actually thinks that AC Valhalla is not well made, that just shows absolute ignorance and lack of general knowledge about game making. People shouldn't even start some nonsense like "it's not well made", when they literally have no idea what they are talking about. I'm so glad it got nominated for "Best Action / Adventure Game" at "The Game Awards". That alone shows that people who are part of gaming at least understand and acknowledge that it is well made video game!
It doesn't have to win and very likely wont, that's not the point. What matters is fact that it got nominated.

This idea of going back in time to different eras got me into this series in first place. Everything else comes second to me, i could endlessly free roam for hours and just check every corner, parkour on stuff. Amazing. Darker tone reminds me Unity and i love Unity, Parkour is better than last 2 games, Big open world and story remind me Black Flag and i love Black Flag. It has two maps, not one, that's first time they have done that. You can swim underwater just like in Odyssey and there' stuff to discover underwater, on land and underground. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 93% completion took roughly 104 hours of in-game gameplay time, with some Orlog, or drinking challenge remaining.
Some possible spoilers will be in this review, so if you did not play the game yet, I advise you to look elsewhere.

    Positives:

-First off let me start off with the story. Personally, I found the story really well written, and engaging, no matter if you played as Layla or Eivor. The modern arc, which I really did not like in Origins, and Odyssey took a turn to the better, with some plot twist, that are albeit somewhat predictable if you do the Animus Anomaly mysteries, but nonetheless, are surprising. (If you want to be surprised then do the Animus Anomalies after completing the main story, to truly understand what happened to the Isu gods)

-After that we have gameplay, smooth combat, rewarding stealth mechanics, and a variety of abilities, that feel much more rewarding to unlock than in Odyssey. I also really like the addition of the stamina bar in combat, which can limit the amount of attacks, or rolls you are able to do. In Odyssey, I spent most of my time rolling in combat, but parrying in this game feels more rewarding, as a good parry not only staggers the enemy, but also it can deal damage, and make it easier for you to do a stun attack or a stomp kill.

-Much better gear system, with less full inventories, but with a good upgrading system.

-The game's optimizations are really good. I have an i5 6500, and a GTX 1070 in a 4-5 year old system, but it handled the game really well, rarely dripping below 60 fps in intense combat situations such as raiding a monastery, or taking a castle.

    Negatives:

-Why aren't there any one handed swords in this game?

-Bugs, but that can be fixed when a patch comes.

    -Hardest difficulty can feel easy.

-However an SSD is required for the game to run smoothly. I played on an HDD myself, and the load times were awfully long, the worst one being travelling to Asgard/Jotunheim, which took almost 5 minutes, with a freshly defragmented HDD.

    In conclusion:
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a well worth game to put your money on, considering it gave me 104 hours of playtime for 48 Euros, which is less than half of an Euro for an hour of gameplay, which is a really good time considering Demon's Souls took 23 hour to complete (Although, that was 23 really enjoyable hour) for 60 euros. It is well worth the price for anyone longing for a great viking adventure, or if he is a fan of the series.

Invest more into your products, you have good directors, give them all the freedom the need! I know you can make good stuff, you have done it past, you can do it again, i really believe it.
I believe in you Ubisoft, because i have really liked some of your games (AC 4 Black Flag, AC Unity (after patches obviously), Far Cry 3 and even some Ghost Recon Games, even Watch Dogs 1 was good, even tho it wasn't perfect. I would hate to see you go down like this. What you did in 2019 is unforgivable, but every company messes up at times, In fact all your games have better writing than Fallout 4 or Fallout 76, not that it's good comparison, but just saying. But you need to take Rockstar as your inspiration and i feel, in a way you already do. That's good! Just focus on quality, fix more bugs before release and just do good games. That's all it takes. I'm so far loving Valhalla and i have high hopes for Far Cry 6 and future of Ubisoft, Please don't let me and all your fans down!

The PC port is also pretty horrendous. I'm using a 3080 and I'm still getting about an average of 70-80 frames.

I'm consistently fighting with controls, dealing with a **** load of bugs, and in general experiencing frustration on a regular basis. I wish I could rate this game much higher, but in its current state (2 weeks after release) it needs a **** load of work.

Before AC: Vahalla, I hadn't purchased an AC game since black flag, and I will likely won't be purchasing any additional Ubisoft games until they actually properly test their games. This performance is honestly shameful for a AAA studio.

Main story is surprisingly good and so are side activities. After Odyssey that was pretty terrible and i had me expectations really low, because i wasn't honestly expecting anything good anymore. This one really surprised me. Open world has also so much better design than Odyssey. More and more i play it, it's not even average, Valhalla is one one best in the series!

Very enjoyable Assassin's Creed entry, i almost gave up after Odyssey because it just got boring. It had nice graphics for 2018, but story was lame and it had too much grinding. But Valhalla turns this ship around completely. Grinding is gone, older AC elements are back, map design is so much better than Odyssey, story is solid, voice acting is good. Would very much recommend trying this!

I'm also happy that one-shot assassination is back, something that should have always been there, i have no idea why it was even taken out, it makes no sense. Anyway it's back and works just like in older games. Map is huge, specially England, Norway is big enough too. Everything is not absolutely perfect obviously, but i wasn't expecting it to be, specially in year like 2020. What i mean by that, some bugs. But overall it's very good AC game. Here's a question for everyone who give score between 0 and 3, are you banned from youtube? Is it so difficult to watch some gameplay, before you buy it? I actually strongly doubt they even have it.

Story wise I am the most upset as the there is not really one. The game evolves around you going to the different kingdoms to make Allies with the leaders there by doing quests for them and then you return to your base and move onto the next.
Historically we dont know very much about Vikings as they where illiterate and didnt right down there story's so this gave Ubisoft a clean slate to do whatever they want and they choose to do the bare minimum i feel. Characters like Ivvor the boneless, who was the most famous viking to ever live is a nobody in this game existing only to be a small amount of comic relief, they dont even have an interpretation to why he was called the boneless which was a major lost opportunity that carries over to every aspect of this game with everything being half ass.
I am also very tired of the god awful modern world story the keep forcing into every game, Ghost of Tsushima proved you can tell a story with game play like this without trying to be too weird and whacky but the animus stuff in this game makes me skip want to skip the cutscenes and just get back to the Viking stuff.

Character customization is very weak with there not being any real Viking style clothes and Armour to wear. All the outfits look the same with similar colors except for the store items you need to buy with real money that are really wacky and out there.

Overall dont get this game unless its half off as its nothing special.

For example Far Cry 5 has very low user score on metacritic based on 1700 reviews, while literally same game on steam has over 67 000 reviews and 76% of them are positive. That just shows that random bots can't make accounts on steam and write fake reviews, but on this site, they can and they always have. This 6.8 score in reality should be more like 7.6-8.1 but thanks to bots who give this game endless 0's, this score is lower. This usually only happens with extremely popular games and Assassin's Creed Valhalla indeed is extremely popular game. Another good comparison is RDR2 PC version score here and on steam, night and day difference and there's so many more like that.

I've had the game at minimum crash 5 times, at least 2 times taking screenshots with UPlay, and another 3 just existing in the world. Sometimes, bows do not fire at all when you press left click.

Guards will respawn in an area you have cleared if you are not actively in combat, and seemingly more than about 50 meters away. This makes clearing out an area, then hunting for loot without interuption a pain in the ass, in larger settlements especially.

Get the game when it's on a heavy discount if at all.

Ubisoft is one of the most important gaming companies ever. That's absolute fact and absolutely nothing will change that. They release multiple games every single year, every year. Then there's this group of idiots who sht on all their games, while at the same time hyping up companies that release 2 games in ten fcking years. Ten years. It's not me hating on "CDprojectred", hell no, i like them very much. My point is that without Ubisoft, gaming landscape would be incredibly empty. Imagine world without Far Cry's Assassin's Creed's, Watch Dogs, Ghost Recon's, Division's, Rainbow Six and so many more. There has to be some company that makes AAA games while these other companies makes two games in 10 years. How is it so hard to understand? Without Ubisoft there would be basically nothing, but endless multiplayer games and "Marvel's Avenger's" type of trash. That's not the world i wanna live in. I wanna live in world full of tons of different games each year. Of course there's also this bunch on sonyfanboys (again not talking about people who own playstation, talking about fanboys, i own playstation as well) that act like only games worth playing are console exclusives, that let's be honest are usually story simulators full of endless cutscenes, these are more movies than games, i personally want actual games ya know (and yes there are also good ones like Bloodborne.)
Everyone acts like life lasts forever and it's cool to endlessly whine about some companies while waiting 10 years for a game from another company. All we have is 100 years (usually way less) and then it's over. Forever. So instead of constant whining, either enjoy the game or just don't play it, if you don't like it. It's that simple.

Amazing game! i will support and play this game for years to come with all my heart. If you give it anything less than 7 go to hell. I wouldn't even talk with you in real life, you literally don't exist for me. I'm done with Ubisoft haters, forever.

Okay i have to get this out. I'm getting psychically tired of people hating Ubisoft. Like it's not even funny anymore. I'm just completely done with this. For some reason this "group of people" thinks it's completely fine to sht on their games every year. But when Rockstar fcks up or milks their game for 7 years, everyone is just silent. That's just complete hypocrisy on so many levels. ByOkay i have to get this out. I'm getting psychically tired of people hating Ubisoft. Like it's not even funny anymore. By the way i'm saying all this, while Rockstar is one of my favorite gaming companies, but i'm honest, unlike these losers who think it's fine to hate Ubisoft. Unlike other companies Ubisoft ALWAYS releases their games Day 1 on EVERY platform. Rockstars takes 1-2 maybe 3 years for PC version and they STILL fcked up with RDR2 PC version. Nobody shakes a head. Ubisoft releases not perfect, but perectly playable (at least with any RTX card) game and people whine and complain like it's worst thing that has ever happened. It's just insanely, insanely pathetic how these absolute losers act. I literally hate them, i'm not even hiding it. If you are Ubisoft hater, i hate you. There was this one person on youtube comparing Valhalla graphics to 2013 game and saying it looks like sht. That's complete, absolute next level lies. From graphical standpoint this game looks incredible. I'm just so done with this hate and it has to change, something has to change. Expand

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a great-looking open-world game with impressive landscapes and cinematography. However, the checklist collectible open-world still needs some work to feel truly engaging, and combat is too tedious and too frequent to be compelling. As a lapsed fan of Assassin's Creed trying to see if I can click with the series once again, Valhalla didn't quite hook me as I was hoping it would.

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a lot of fun and easy to sink dozens of hours into. It is the best entry in the more recent trilogy and genuinely elevates the gameplay mechanics. Content could be considered somewhat bloated still, but it is diverse enough and the setting and story is solid most of the way through.

Sneaking is fun, fighting is fun, walking through the great outdoors is so much fun. Sightseeing too! Valhalla is free minded and could be innovative, but lacks skills to persuade its players about that. [Issue#308]
