Story line is boring and uninteresting. I have loved this franchise and have played all of them but this one may be the first that I can't get myself to continue let alone finish after a few hours of play. There is nothing new or compelling. Hate that some content is unplayable unless you have a co-op partner. If you like open world games, like I do, I say pass on this and get FarCry 4 instead. Expand

I'm not even going to talk about Graphics or FPS and that massive fail by Ubisoft. However, as a huge fan of the series... a guy that owned almost every collectable, this is the worst, easily, game I've ever played. It's a massive step backward.

Nothing in this game is fluid. In a game where movement is key, you have to have fluid movement. 80% of the time your character will NEVER go where you want him to go when you're free-running and moving about. He'll catch things completely off center of camera and attempting to run one block ends up getting about four blocks of movement and 5 times as long to do because of all the extra catching and moving that the character does instead of just going forward. Don't even TRY to go into a window; jesus... it's nearly impossible and I find myself screaming at the character because he can't get in a damn window. Then, if I'm trying to find my way down a building, lord help us there, due to the horribily programmed system, you can't even release straight down until the game knows there's something there for you to grab. I constantly shout at the character like he's my 60 lbs dog greeting me at the door; "Get DOWN!". But, he just won't go down.

The combat in this game is complete junk. THE worst combat system I've played with, and I tried it on all three system; PC, PS4 and XB1. The biggest frustration with the game comes with the combat camera. They zoom in so HARD on your character that you can't see the damn fight around you!! This makes it nearly impossible to have a fight against more than 2 people and the fight ends up turning into a fight with your CAMERA CONTROLS rather than a fight with baddies in-game.

I haven't been able to get the Multiplayer to even work, for "Reasons". I can connected to the internet, I have a router (like the rest of the gaming world) but Ubisoft can't seem to get me to connect to their services unless it's 2am. So, a game heavily hyped with Coop is completely useless for me.

I've gotten completely SUCK on a building and I could go up, or down, and had to fast travel to get un-stuck.

Get this game if you want to be frustrated as hell, because that's all you're going to get. It's not fun. There's not a thing I can say about it that's nice; which is extremely sad, because I've been a major fan.

Hey Ubisoft... maybe if you cared LESS about your stupid "Companion App" and releasing another game side-by-side with this one (Rogue) then you'd actually be able to pull out a decent game. People need to be fired, and you need to do something big to make up for this because as a Studio; you just slapped all of your fans in the face.

Not sure about frame rates (as long as the game doesn't look choppy I'm happy), but I am running all the graphics settings on very high and it looks absolutely stunning.

Gameplay wise I really felt a return to the earlier Assassin's Creed games in terms of missions, free-form assassinations and dense cities with plenty of climbing space. This was sorely missed in the blunder that was AC3 and AC4, which while a thoroughly enjoyable and stunning game, just didn't feel like assassins creed.

One thing I really like is the integration of co-op/multiplayer in this game. I am anti-social at the best of times and really hate games that push too much multiplayer on you, especially when opting out of it prevents you from finishing the game fully (*side-eyes most recent chapter of splinter cell*). In ACU the coop stuff is there if you want it, but you never really need to.

My only real gripes about this game so far are the usage of pay-to-win (let's just call a spoon a spoon) which I despise in any game (although kind of understand the logic as Ubisoft lost a ton of revenue to pirates, not the ACIV kind, who then go and give their games bad reviews because they cant get the game fixing patches), and the fact that Initiates was fully integrated into the game even though it is broken and has been since before ACIV.

All in all if you can run this game and like the earlier titles, this will be a great game, enjoy.

Second, I'm going to give scores here for all areas except story, since this is what I really want to talk about. Graphics are a nice upgrade, the gameplay is still managing to be genius and unbearably frustrating at the same time, But the meat of the review involves the story.

    Graphics: 7/10
    Gameplay: 8/10
    UI: 7/10

But here's where it gets dragged so far down.
The story is extremely vague to begin with. Already, from the very first moments, it feels like a cop-out idea for a story. As the opening unfolds, you are given a certain task. Great. Game's set up. So you continue on your way, trying to find the information in Arno's memories you are tasked with finding. But here's where things get disappointing.

Arno is a likable Assassin, but he is really written into a corner. His story is basically just Ezio's, and his motivations for being an Assassin are simply not just unrelatable, they're also boring and predictable. So while you're rummaging through his memories, you're having a very hard time connecting with him and agreeing with the things he says.
I held out hope near the end that the game would turn around, maybe offer some awesome present-day plot twist, but it was worse than I could have imagined. Not only did Arno's story end with nearly everything going wrong, but the information you were tasked with finding is apparently worthless once they find out what it is. Present day you (who you never see or hear, or even know in anyway whatsoever) is basically told, "You did a good job though, we'll call you if we need you to do something else."

To sum it up, Arno's story was pretty boring and it ended poorly. And to top it off, the present-day story line was next to nonexistent.

One other area of the game that really disappointed was the game world. Paris looked nice, and looked busy. That's about it. The French Revolution was not explained at all, there was no reasoning for how exactly the Templars and Assassins fit into it, and meeting famous figures (like Napoleon) feels very forced and unnecessary. The city had little life and soul.

Overall, it was a chore to play, and I am upset that the game turned out so poorly. The story issues were just a result of putting almost 0 effort into it, while the game world issues I mentioned could have been avoided by setting it in a different time period. Paris in any other time would have been a joy to explore, but the Revolution made everything feel dull and hostile, too much so for the City of Lights.

Honestly, I don't think ACU gets all the credit it deserves because its technical issues overshadow the gameplay changes. And it DOES have some major technical issues, let's get that right out there first. Play the game in its current form and you'll find yourself in a lagfest, freezing every few minutes and glitching through the ground occasionally. Though the new stealth/cover mode and descending option are great ideas at their core, their controls feel clumsy and still need quite a bit of tinkering. I'd discourage anyone from buying the game until Ubisoft has released a few patches that solve these problems, as it simply won't be worth your money in its current state.

That being said, this is the first game in the series (and really, I loved Black Flag, but still) that gives me the actual feeling the creators tried to fix some of the game's biggest flaws. The addition of a pretty decent skilltree and equipment system allows for tons of customisation and lets you adjust your assassin to your own playstyle. Random events, side-missions and storyline missions have a much better design than the game's predecessors, never feeling repetitive or lineair, but instead granting you an incredible degree of freedom to achieve your goal the way you see fit: Which is pretty much what we all wanted missions to look like since the first Assassins Creed. Difficulty has been upped (it's not quite there, but it's heading in the right direction) by making enemies stronger and more aggressive and by having missions require more thinking and planning. Powerful skills, such as bombs, disguise or double assassination, need to be unlocked first, which is actually a pretty nice touch.

The story of the game is so-so, but it holds up. Arno is definitely no Ezio or Edward, but he's likeable enough not to make you want to stop playing. Same goes for the other characters. Personally, I like Arno's animation a lot as he moves and fights with a lot more "sophistication" and acrobacy than most previous assassins. The whole Abstergo mayham has quite obviously been moved to the background and is now used more as a way of "explaining" the game rather than actually forming a progressing background story. Quite a bummer for the people who enjoyed it, but personally, I never really did. I like the whole "DNA memory simulation" theme behind the games, but the story was atrocious. It's probably better off this way.

I can't really judge as the game's graphics yet since, because of its horible bugs, I can't play it on (ultra) high. By the looks of it, however, it isn't really significantly better than the previous games. 18th century Paris looks smashing, as we've grown to expect, but doesn't feel revolutionarily pretty. A pretty nifty new feature in ACU's world is the fact you can go indoors now. You can use houses as shortcuts (freely, not in an AC3 cutscene kind of way) and many missions take place inside buildings. This contributes a lot to the whole freeroam feeling.

I'm rating the game a 7 for potential since, the way I feel it, Ubisoft is really heading down the right track here, giving me high hopes for future AC's. I hope people can see past the game's technical problems and still purchase it once these are fixed, as it might just be one of the most fun games of the series: An uncut diamond.

The story of the elder races and how our past is not what is told to us is a wonderful concept that can be a legendary IP that most players would love and remind merrily even after years. And Ubi was doing a wonderful job twisting the story and surprising players.

    Until Assassin's Creed: Unity.

I wanted to love this game, I really did. I played it for a certain amount of time, not dwelling on it's bugs and/or faults. But again, even a fan has his own limits.

First of all: bugs. Lots and LOTS of bugs. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I fell through the ground, stuck inside a wall or a cabinet or couldn't catch a ledge and fell to an assassin's worst enemy: gravity. I'm used to bugs in open world games: you can't expect a game to be non-linear and bug-free. But combination of a buggy game play with really serious performance issues leaves scars on you.

Why do this game requires a great hardware anyway? Shadow of Mordor has better graphics yet my hardware was more than enough to play it. I mean I can agree that it doesn't have crowds, superb animations or a lot of water and/or reflections but it was way better in terms of both optimization and hardware/beauty ratio.

Another thing about this game is controls. Those damned controls. I've played all other assassin's creed games and while they didn't feel as fluid as this game (in terms of both animations and climbing mechanics) but they let me do what I want to do or how I want to kill my helpless targets. But this game always blocks my progress by not letting me out of cover, stepping on a board that is literally only centimeters higher than the ground I'm on, jump on the platform I want and air assassinate the target I want to air assassinate. Seriously, when you take controls out from a game that requires you to be fluid and synchronized is like eating rice without a spoon or a fork: you are randomly using tools, hoping to do what you want to do.

Storyline of the era (which is the era of French revolution) is really nice, even though I've no idea how French revolution went in real life. But the story line that I fell in love with (that is the previous race and how humans are created) feels like it's gone to toilet. We don't have a main character, we are just this anonymous player who plays Abstergo product but that's it. No more "let's go outside of the simulation and discover truth about whereabouts, missions and state of today's assassins and templars".

Conclusion: This game had the potential to be something big yet it failed to deliver what it was supposed to be, both as story and game mechanics.

-related, bugs are all over the place. It's a disgrace. I lost count of the pop-ins and of the low res textures, I saw my sword hovering on my side, Npcs get regularly stuck somewhere, collision detection often fails especially on buildings. You get the point.
-The game looks very good, IF you max it and go heavy on AA. Needless to say, it will murder your frame rate.

This is a great game with lots to offer. Unfortunately in its current state I can't really recommend it. Shame on Ubisoft for releasing a beloved product before it was ready. I can only hope this turns out like Rome total war 2, where after a disastrous release the game saw improvements.

I do feel bad for all the users who gave the game a zero cause they dont have the hardware required to enjoy the game. People who say the game was rushed and not finished are incorrect. The game is just graphically beyond current hardware. You can qq about ubisoft not optimsing the game but the fact is the graphics are beyond anything elsecto date.

The music is perfect, the story is decent but not epic by any means. Combat system can be frustrating at times but fun when you get the hang of the system. I would love to see ubisoft get the gameplay that shadow of mordor had to offer.

In closing just want to say that if you dont have a power pc your better off trying it out on xboxone or ps4.

I must say the game runs very bad. Even on low settings (while i play most on high or ultra) i have stuttering issues. Every time i notice a stutter, the polygons reset themselves. I would change this when new patches get introduced and gamebecomes playable, this score would go as high as 7.5-8, not more. I would not increase more because the combat system is the same and it is really boring. Expand

    Pros:

    1. A lot of buildings now have interiors 2. A lot of people on the streets - seems more realistic 3. 3D map Cons: 1. Total lack of gameplay in modern-day sections 2. A lot of chests, unlockables etc. are locked behind multiplayer **** 3. Current amount of money isn't displayed on screen (you have to go to map to see it) 4. 5. Battle system is now utter click-to-death crap. And yet we're still being chased by 10+ enemies
    6. Smoke bomb no longer allows you to perform instant executions
    7. No ships at all (even non-sailable ones)
    8. Arno is way to easy to kill
    9. Paris is kinda boring
    10. Eagle Vision now has a cooldown times
    11. Overabundance of optional chests, missions and other collectibles
    12. QTE lockpicking (instead of a system used in AC3)
    13. Enemies can somehow evade bullets fired at them (even if they are fired in point-black range amid thick smoke bomb fog)
    14. QTE battle with one of "bosses"
    15. Poor optimization
    16. Long loading times
    17. Final boss is a ripoff of Star Wars' emperor. Hooded cloak and lightnings are included
    18. Parkour system is even less controllable then before.

    Verdict: 1/10 (rock bottom).

Ubisoft is showing us master class of making the worst game in the series: take tediousness and enemy kiting of AC1, throw a pinch of AC3 bugs and boredom, and add a spoonful of s*it.

AC:Unity first i was exited for this game but now im not and here is why

    1. The game is badly optimized, fps drops etc.
    2. Bugs and crashes
    3. Price tag
4."Needs an high end computer" to run this game

Otherwise the game seems cool with its new graphics but still not worth the price tag (yet)
My advice is wait for the 3rd patch which they will improve performance and then consider it.

What shines the most in Unity are the main assassinations. Honestly, I think they are one of the best in the series. Each one of them is unique. in each one, we have multiple ways to attack. We can free the prisoners to create a diversion, we can rob a monk to grab a key to the secret entrance to the building and so on. And for the first time in the series, I feel that Altair's word are true: "I am the blade in the crowd". The crowds in this game are amazing. There are a lot of people on the screen. Of course, they are mindless copies with no purpose, but this is still enough for you to feel like a real assassin.
When speaking of crowds is hard not to mention the setting. The game takes place during the French revolution in the 18th century. And I have to admit, I have a mixed feeling about that. As usual, the city is done with perfection. Walking on the streets of Paris, now full of barricades and flames, climbing on a Notre Dame Cathedral - just amazing. But I feel like the story potential of the Revolution was just wasted. The Revolution is just a background. We don't take part, we are just passing by.
The story is ok. That is all I can say. The protagonist has its moments. For the first time in the series, I felt like we have someone who questions what other people is saying to him. But for the most part of the game, he is just flat and boring.
The gameplay was rebuild. The combat is better and a little more difficult. The introduction of descending action during parkour was a great choice. And for the first time in the series, we have a dedicated stealth mode. I also really liked the open-world activities in the city. Especially detective quests and city object-finding puzzles called "Nostradamus' riddles".
Don't get me wrong. The game has its problems. Technical issues, Poorly designed user interface, forgettable story and an open world filled with just a little too generic quests. But It is a good game. I recommend you give it a try.

A "game" you cannot complete is no game at all, whatever opinion I have of the excellent graphics in this game is thus void. Ubisoft needs to clean out its house. Zero score for this. This is a travesty and should no longer be acceptable to PC gamers.

Still the kills are fun to preform. What about the character Arno himself? Well he is charming but aside from his own hidden motives to pursue he really doesn't have much development he is a good assassin and I guess that is what matters the most for members of the Assassin Order. Compared to Shay or Edward he's a step down. The customization really improved and this is a big plus for the game as it feels worth it to compete in challenges to earn reward clothing and weapons. This game deserves a much higher score but I can see why it's so low, since Ubisoft released it way too early and didn't bother fixing the bugs. The game itself is really fun and probably the second best game in the Assassin's Creed franchise but I can't enjoy it when I have stuttering and FPS issues on low settings while I have a good gaming computer!

Assassin's Creed Unity follows the story of a man named Arno Victor Dorian in the French Revolution . His father was killed at a party when Arno was just a small child in around his 10 year old stage. After that, a man named (Mister) François de la Serre adopts him. Arno played with a girl around his age named Elise and he falls in love with her, even though her father is (Mister) François de la Serre. Arno, in his adult years, is accused of murdering (Mister) François de la Serre and therefore he goes to prison. At prison, he finds out that his father used to be an assassin after meeting a man named Bellic. They escape out of prison in a riot and then Arno decides to join the assassins. Since this is a no spoiler review, that is all I will say.

Assassin's Creed Unity is a laggy and buggy mess. The game is great but bugs and FPS issues take away from it. Parkouring is the worst we've seen with nonhuman jumps, Arno never wants to go where you want to and it is just incredibly glitchy. Fighting should be good as they removed the counter system, and it is but the lag doesn't let me do it right!

Stealth in this game is great though, it actually is stealthy unlike any other Assassin's Creed game. I mean litereally why did it take so long for Ubisoft to put in a stealth button? It's really fun and even more fun with friends. The phantom blade is also great as it helps in stealth a lot and just looks cool overall. Can't say anything else about stealth honestly.

Co-Op in this game is incredibly fun! Even with the bugs and connection issues, I still do actually manage to have fun with my friends, although I do get frustrated sometimes with bugs. The missions are all unique, the heists are.. meh and it's just fun to mess around in open world. I do wish you could play the campaign in co-op because that would be amazing.

The level design, atmosphere and graphics in this game is the best I've seen in any Assassin's Creed game, it is incredibly immersive and the little details are massive. The art directors really put their heart and soul into this game and it shames me to see that I can't even see it a lot due to me having to run the game at low settings but otherwise, it is amazing and it really makes me feel like I'm France during the revolution period.

Arno is an amazing character, his humour completely matches my style (Sarcastic), he reminds me of Ezio which can never be a bad thing and he's realistic. Like Ubisoft stated, Arno is not just some grizzled action hero, he's a real person who can get hurt easily and has many emotions which makes him more relatable. Arno's story is about redemption, while Ezio's was about revenge. Arno also is a great assassin as he also thinks very stealthily which is what a true assassin should do, it's even in their brotherhood.

The story in this game is great, I haven't played it that much therefore I will change this section of my review in later time but from what I've played, it's really good although I don't have a really good hook that makes me want to keep playing it, instead I just want to be playing co-op a lot but the story is great and any Assassin's Creed fan will enjoy it.

Overall, Assassin's Creed Unity is great! Everything we want in an Assassin's Creed game is right there but we can't enjoy it when Ubisoft keeps releasing it in terrible times where we can't run it well on our gaming rigs! It's a buggy mess. You should really buy Assassin's Creed Unity but not in the current state it is in, wait a few months until they fix this buggy mess of a game. I enjoy Unity but like I said, it's too buggy for me to fully enjoy, it can really be an amazing game.

And finally I went through this tedious mud, called Unity. First, about the pros: the graphics have stepped far ahead compared to the previous parts and, perhaps, that's all. The plot, narratives, characters and eclecticism in the game are simply miserable and resemble another cheap slag series from Netflix. This is a hack on vegetable oil and a soulless dummy. Apparently, the developers, every single force, threw on a breakthrough, compared to the previous Black Flag, graphics, absolutely spitting on everything else. Well, it didn't work - the game failed miserably and was spat on by both critics and the gaming community.
The characters, with the exception of Pierre Bellek, are absolutely soulless, and their motives and actions are like in a bad, fake tabloid play; they are absolutely not realistic, you do not believe them, do not sympathize and do not empathize. The main character had a huge potential, but it was not revealed at all.
The whole game is one long quest "hunt down and kill". No drama, no conflict, no twists and turns of the plot, everything is just insanely bland, stretched and dull.
Paris is made relatively well, there is life in it, however, the atmosphere and spirit of revolutionary France is not felt from the word at all.
The combat system was also redesigned, which became more arcade, unrealistic and inconvenient.
A stupid pricing system, when a bottle of medicine costs more than the restoration of a three-story mansion in Paris, but many games sin like this.
In all the previous parts of the series, your weapons and armor practically did not play a significant role in the gameplay, and more expensive equipment allowed you to play a little more comfortably. In Unity, everything is different. Here you will be required to save huge amounts of money to buy a sword, a lot of armor/clothing items, and you will spend hours and days doing countless boring side quests, if, of course, you want to play comfortably. Otherwise, the gameplay turns into a continuous torment. You will be killed with a single blow, and in order to kill a simple opponent, you will need to chop him from head to toe with your low-level saber.
There was also a place for a strong, independent woman who decides everything herself. It is a pity, it is impossible to spoiler, or I would tell about the insanity that guides the thinking and actions of many heroes.
In general, Unity has become a complete disappointment and something tells me that it will only get worse from now on. It is an insanely pity that one of the oldest and coolest AAA series of games, like many others, also went downhill and began to turn into a bland, tasteless, devoid of character and soul conveyor. The conveyor belt, which is now managed by effective managers, accountants and radical propagandists of various minorities, and not by directors, producers, directors and talented game makers who are burning with their work - true artists and poets of their field.

    Requiescat In Pace, Assassins Creed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the only major Assassin's Creed release about which I can say I'm disappointed. The game is poorly fine tuned as the myriad of glitches and bugs can attest to. In other words, even if someone were only to play it for an hour, it would become obvious that the game was subjected to minimal polish. The story is no where near as interesting or engaging as any of the other Creed games e.g. AC2 or AC4: BF. Although I played it to its finish (I beat the game) on a powerful gaming computer, I can imagine how frustrating the intermittent stuttering and wildly unstable frame rate could be for those who played it on a less power computer or even either of the consoles. Just to give an example of the poor polish the developers did for the game, on the very last story mission, the antagonist continually repeats the same lines over and over if he attacks you or is interrupted while he is speaking in any way.

To sum up, the game is buggy and glitchy, has little polish, and has an uninspiring, uninteresting story compared to the other games in the series. It's still an okay game, but no where near the quality you would expect from an Assassin's Creed game.

Combat was satisfying but nothing new. Last year we were introduced to naval combat and an entirely new atmosphere which was a delight. This year however I feel they've taken a step backwards, nothing in the game makes you say "wow".

Of course you've probably seen all the commotion with the game's performance. Firstly, bear in mind that all the other reviews giving it 0/10 are completely prejudice and these people did not give the game time before stating their rating/opinion. Yes, the game was poor on day 1. However, a few days later after two patches I haven't really had any problems. Admittedly I have two GTX 970's, but still, I'm getting around 20fps more than I was on day 1 and haven't had nearly as many problems. The game is definitely playable.

The one great thing about this game was the NPC atmosphere. Everywhere you go there are just hundreds of people everywhere, it really brings Paris to life. On the other hand this is probably what causes so much game lag, so it'd be nice to have options to reduce crowd numbers.

AC Unity is a turd. I tried to finish the game, but I couldn't because how ******* bored I got. The gameplay is a downgrade compare to AC4 Black Flag, the story is cliché and nothing special, the optimization is terrible, the graphics looks like **** and the game is not cinematic. Please avoid this game.

Well, Unity is neither my favourite or my least favourite AC game, albeit it's certainly the buggiest. Many of my personal problems with the franchise have been addressed here and at least somewhat improved. You no longer feel like an undying god among men during combat (i.e. you can actually die pretty quickly now if you do a wrong move), which in turn makes you want to avoid combat and use a stealthy approach instead. The gameplay in general feels more similar to AC2 than the pirate adventure game AC4 that really should've been a new IP instead. Movement still feels a bit clunky at times, but the new free-run descend mechanic is a welcome addition, as it helps a lot when trying to get down from rooftops without accidentally committing suicide. I like the amount of character customisation that's on offer, but it's also irritating as Ubisoft is really pushing for microtransactions here and it shows.

Story is kinda "meh". It's the same old revenge tale that we've already seen in plenty of AC games before, and Élise was the only character I cared about. The protagonist, Arno, is kind of a mix between Ezio and Altaïr, but there's just not really much depth to his character at all. It's a shame that the story did not take better advantage of the French Revolution setting. It's presented very well when you're just exploring around Paris, but the actual missions and side quests don't really have anything interest going on.

    GPU: GTX 970
    CPU: i7-4790k
    Monitor resolution: 1920x1080
Performance on the PC version is a lot better than I was expecting. Granted, I got the game recently and have only played the 1.5 version, but still. I'm either really lucky or Ubisoft have done a good job fixing a lot of the problems with the game. I'm using highest settings except for shadows and AA and I get a consistent 60fps with vsync on, only dropping below that if there's a huge amount of NPCs on the screen. During cutscenes framerate can sometimes drop as low as 40, but it isn't too noticeable. The game does look gorgeous, especially during cutscenes. The biggest issue I have graphics-wise is that there's quite a lot of pop-in when moving fast.
As for bugs and glitches, they're definitely worth mentioning. I've played the game for about 30 hours now and I've had the game crash to desktop twice, and once it forced me to restart the whole computer when it froze so badly I couldn't do anything. Opening cutscenes of co-op missions never work properly and sometimes I can't complete missions due to some important NPC just standing around when it should be moving. Other than that you have your usual minor open world game stuff, like NPCs trying to walk through walls, weird physics glitches et cetera.

As a final note, the sound design in this game is absolutely awful. Some of the combat sounds are especially poor-sounding and the reverb on the sounds is often way off. Ambient sounds are lacking and the game doesn't have a particularly interesting soundtrack. Thankfully, the voice acting is pretty good, at least in French. Dunno about the English ones, since I couldn't stand French characters speaking in a very British accent and I immediately turned the spoken language to French.

Based on what I've written about the game so far, you'd think I'd give it an even lower score than I did. I really wanted to, but I just couldn't. Even with all its problems, Unity is a good game and I've had lots of fun playing it. It just could've been so much more, and that's why the final word I use to describe Unity is "disappointment".

Oh, and what the hell is up with Uplay games needing to be on the same partition as the OS to work? Every one of the games I play through Uplay have had the same problem. It's bloody annoying, since each game can take up to 50Gb of space and my main drive only has about 200Gb available overall.

As a French I thought this opus would be my favorite of all AC license and yet it actually was the opposite.
I didn't like the fact that you were stuck inside the walls of a single town (Paris) with tons of things to do but way too repetitive. Plus I had a lot of bugs and optimisations issues. Good graphics tho.

The parkour and setting of Unity were probably one of the most intricate and well designed of the series. The story, however, was pretty much a remake of 2 and cliche as F. The heroine had an annoying voice and Arno's personality was terribly designed. With a hood, the dudes like an icicle and when without it, he's and oaf. A lot of the negativity I've seen about it was due to the prevalent bugs in the game. Paris is easily the best designed city in the series, both gameplay-wise and aesthetically. The game looks very gorgeous and really nails the feel of French Revolution with all the chaos.

Gameplay is top-notch. The stealth is still great, only thing missing in that area is whistling to draw guards which was present in previous games. More focus is given to social stealth, which feels like a return to form. Parkour is easily the best in the series, with controlled descent allowing you to properly make your way down a building quickly without a haystack. The combat is very similar but still quite different than the rest. No more "instant kill counters" but instead they leave the enemy open for a follow-up attack. One major gripe is that early on, there may be high level enemies that are massive damage sponges that kill you in two hits but that gets solved once you level up. You very much can be overwhelmed by enemies and really encourages you to run away. Overall combat is designed as something where you can definitely take on multiple enemies but you're not some godlike killing machine like the previous games where you could fight an entire battalion by yourself. The gear system is also my favorite in the series as you can customize your character to a certain playthrough without delving too deep into the "RPG min-max" insanity that usually follows.

Story is not bad but definitely not phenomenal. It's very middle-ground. There is certainly a lot of great moments that make the story worth playing but there is also a lot of contrived moments that are difficult to understand at first playthrough. It is definitely one of those games where the story becomes significantly better on the successive playthroughs as you notice hints and understand the importance of certain dialogues or scenes. The over-arching story is actually pretty good, it's just the individual arcs within the story range from messy to pretty good. The modern day story is 100% an afterthought thrown in just because they feel required to.

Overall the game is incredibly fun, very aesthetically beautiful, but the story is very average. Thankfully the story doesn't detract from the game to any negative degree to let you enjoy playing through the game.

Sometime when you play this game, you can feel the brilliance of design, work put into it by hundreds of people around the globe over 4 years of development.

Too bad that all this work is undermined by corporate greed and impossible deadline. More than Watch dogs, this game would've benefited greatly from having a 3-6 month delay. There are no game-breaking bugs, but glitches are abound with people reporting falling through the map, obnoxious pop-in and other issues.

The PC optimisation, though it surprisingly good. This game is meant for next-gen, therefore people not being able to run in on older graphics cards with less than 2Gb of RAM should've expected trouble. This is a reality check for those people who thought their PC was as good as a new-gen console: in most cases it is not. The shared VRAM in consoles is something the PCs will never get and if your card and system memory do not have at least 4Gb each dedicated to gaming, there is nothing the optimisation can do.

So all that's left is a good PC port of a great game, unfortunately riddled with minor glitches which make the experience less enjoyable as it could've been. It is a solid 8/10 and considering the lack of truly bold visionary games this year, it is a contender for Game of the Year.

If you have a decent configuration, you should try this game on PC. It is a return to form for the series from the conceptual point of view and unlike, for example, Rome 2 Total war which had both technical and gameplay issues, here we're talking about a truly next-gen experience, well thought out and polished, with bugs, most of which will not live for a month.

(This game is not 10/10, but I will give this score to offset just a little bit the amount of hate going on. )

This game has a very good storyline and I like how it feels like an upgraded version for the first Assassin's Creed, you have one hidden blade which is exactly like the first game, you have Arno which looks like a French Ezio and the graphics are amazing! I may play this game on the lowest settings and on 800x450 resolution with scaling but I can still tell you that the graphics is amazing because I don't really care about graphics alot, mainly I care about the performance and storyline. My laptop is a i5-3317u with 6gb ram and nvidia GT635M and I run this game at about 15-18fps with quite smooth gameplay. I would give this game a 10/10 if there weren't any problems but since I gave a 9/10, there is a problem. First of all, the performance, yes the performance, I have seen people with GTX graphics card reaching low fps and I know Ubisoft can do better than that. But the problem which made it 9/10 is the fact that this game has been worked around for 4 years and in the 4 years, Ubisoft has been busy making this game but still delivered a...well... poorly optimized game. Ubisoft, Alex Amancio, stop the microtransactions please. < Another problem stated. Now, my next problem isn't with the company but with people, most of them at the very least. Since technology and industries have gone bigger and bigger, people strive for AMAZING graphics, for AMAZING storyline, for AMAZING gameplay... yet all I see now are people complaining about unsatisfying graphics like 90% of the time. If it is graphics you're looking for, then why do you play these games? For entertainment? No, entertainment doesn't have anything to do with graphics, it's more towards storyline and gameplay. You play these games for... as I would say, art, not in the way where I would see. My art is about storyline, gameplay, playable decent graphics. I wouldn't mind having graphics like the first Assassin's Creed for AC Unity as long as I enjoy it. But your art is about beautiful, amazing looking environments, amazing looking characters, hair details, eye details, every single bit of texture is your concern. You do not care about the gameplay or the storyline, you care about graphics. And this is why companies are able to deliver poorly optimized game or even optimized games that doesn't even satisfy you. They worked their asses off to create games and yet all you care about is graphics(90% of the time) which is like less than half of what they want you to experience. They may tell you to visit beautiful Paris in the 18th century, they may tell you to explore the Notre Dame de Paris with beautiful details. But games like Minecraft, you enjoy them not for the graphics right? Then stop complaining please, I may sound like a butthurt person... well maybe I am kinda but seriously, companies deliver what you want them to deliver, companies only make games with amazing graphics because YOU wanted them, if you were like "I want an amazing storyline for the next game in the series", then they would decrease their work on the graphics and more into the storyline. Yes this game has glitches and bugs, but that's the risk you have to pay. I also seen reviews saying that this is a copy of the other AC games. And honestly, this brought me to the thought when someone(forgot who was it) that reviewed saying that Pokemon X and Y still feels like a Pokemon game...like wtf? How do want Pokemon to feel like? Like Call of Duty? Pokemons picking up guns shooting at people like GTA? No! Assassin's Creed games are third person, checked. They are about going back to history, checked. They have free roam, checked. The Assassins have hidden blades, checked. Assassins do parkour, checked. I don't want an Assassin's Creed game to be first person shooter, I want it like how it originally is. Like Call of Duty or Battlefield, it started off as a FPS and it still is a FPS. Games have their own respective types as I would say. I can't say more, I'm in lost for words a second ago and I thought I would be able to write down alot, well... If anyone who is reading this, just think of what I said and think of the future of the gaming industries and gaming itself. Expand

The long-lasting taste that this game left me with, is slightly higher than the AC III game. It is a 7.

It was a major effort to upgrade the graphics but on the other hand the story was dull and could not come near the Ezio trilogy.

The difficulty of the game was frustrating, in particular the combat balance. Once again just like in the AC III game the environment felt very dense in a suffocation way.

Had I taken the buggyness into account it would have been a 5, but I tend not to.

    Overall Verdict

7.5: AC Unity is a shy step forward in the AC series, full of interesting ideas but also with none of them fully realized. Half single player and half multiplayer, doesn't convince in any of them. Most of the players won't even try all of the aspects of the character customization nor the side activities of a big ,and we have to admit beautiful, computerized Paris.
Fans will miss the atmosphere of the old AC games but is admirable that Ubisoft actually tried to add something new to the formula, and true AC lovers will absolutely appreciate some new concepts. With a more engaging story it could have been a better game. All in all, an enjoyable game.

The multiplayer never really worked properly (cutting what could have been a huge positive aspect of the game). Not a well optimized game.

Now, as for the game itself... This is the first AC I've played and I'm enjoying it! The Graphics are awesome and the FPS is somewhere around 60 (40ish and glitchy with FRAPS running). I run everything on High or Ultra-High.

My machine is high end but, not ultra high end. I run a single R9-290 GPU and a 3570K with 16 Gigs of RAM.

Anyway, the game is pretty cool if you can run it and hopefully the other things will be worked out so more people can enjoy the game.

All I know is that Unity runs very well on my PC considering how amazing it looks. And I am enjoying the game immensely. The story is the best yet in the series, in my opinion. I'm drawn in and legitimately want to know what happens next. It doesn't hurt that the cutscenes are so gobsmackingly beautiful.

The gameplay is also the best in the series for me. The combat is harder and requires more skill and focus. I've actually died quite a few times in this game, which generally doesn't happen much to me in other AC games.

The traversal is generally much smoother and more refined this time. The animations are incredibly detailed and varied and there is a greater sense of freedom of movement. Sometimes when using the controlled descent mechanics your character will kind of float unnaturally sideways as he is descending, but that is the only niggle I have with the new mechanics. Being able to climb up, over and around things so fluidly makes me feel like spiderman. I also like the fact that you can now enter so many buildings and use them as pathways while traversing through the city.

Stealth has been improved dramatically. Finally we can crouch and take cover behind objects, which opens up all kinds of neat gameplay scenarios in the game. It's finally a proper stealth game. There is also a "last known position" mechanic, similar to that found in the recent Splinter Cell games, and it works well and allows you to use it to your advantage to attract and slip away from enemies.

The mission structure is a lot better and more flexible than in previous entries. You are given a certain mission, but it can dynamically change this time. You aren't stuck completing it only one predefined way. There is also a much greater variety of different side missions you can tackle in the game. It all makes the game so addictive.

As far as the visuals, all I can say is 'wow'. I can say without any hesitation nor hint of exaggeration that this is the best looking game I have played on PC. The lighting, shading and materials all look stunning. It's filled with detailed textures, volumetric smoke and fog, extremely detailed character models, the most realistic hair I've seen in a game, lots of neat shader work, and a host of advanced post effects.

So far it is easily the best game in the series for me and one of the best games I've played this year.

Do you?...I do...it should not be a secret...... PIRACY. That's right...all this happened because Ubisoft is trying to throw the pirates off it's trail. It is painfully obvious, in fact, the over-bloated graphics are a part of it's very strategy to recover revenue lost to rampant online piracy, as well as the included micro/macro transactions and the generic gameplay. I will outline three valid points: 1) why bother to make a good game, and innovate, spending time and money, when they are just going to pirate anyway? 2) We should over-bloat the graphics, that way, when pirates flock to buy a new shiny Nvidia GPU, Nvidia will pull in revenue from which Nvidia will pay us commission, that is one way of recovering revenue lost to piracy. 3) We should cripple the game at release, that way we can release patches later that will fix it for those who legitimately buy it, those who pirated it will never get those updates. 4) Let's put in micro transactions to unlock game content, that way pirates get freemium access, as well as get some extra revenue from legitimate buyers. 5) Let's over hype the game, that way we get more preorders, the more preorders, the better off against those who will pirate it. Yep, this is it. Remember EA and Sim City and all it's online problems, well, this is the same. I myself will not be buying this game no matter what...and BTW I pirated it. Expand

The game also looks very good but at short distances only due to the low LOD factor. The character textures are horrible however. I have seen people converting from low res to high res textures just 10 metres away from me. The story was going great at start but it started to become inconsistent mid way and that ending was disappointing. All the characters in the game had mediocre or almost zero character development including Arno. Everybody keeps saying the relationship between Arno and Elise was the only good thing about the story but let's face it...Arno was a big (and I do mean big) SIMP. Him being so trustworthy towards Elise felt so unnatural. Also character wise he didn't feel assassin like at all. He felt more like a lone wolf ranger type. The parkour is hands down the best no doubt about that. The combat "concept" is the most balanced in terms of challenge and fun in the whole AC franchise. However the combat itself is broken. If the combat system worked the way it was supposed to the gameplay would have been a 10/10 for me. Combat bugs and ridiculous aiming ruined the experience for me a little. For example an enemy standing just 10 m away from you takes like 3 or so seconds to fire his gun but if that same enemy is chasing you, you would notice that he can shoot at you accurately and instantly from like 50m. Also hud sometimes disappears mid battle which makes parrying a bit difficult. The camera angle fluctuates like crazy in interiors. And I did play the game in 2020 btw with the most recent patches and fixes.
    TL;DR.....
    Environment and setting: 9/10
    Graphics: 7/10

The huge open world with thousands of unique and interactive AI NPC, is just so next-gen! This is by far the most authentic, living, breathing world I've seen in games. Everything just look so pretty! Thus, I'm not surprised the consoles can't keep up. Gameplay wise, I enjoyed the tactical stealth aspect of each assassination. It has a nostalgic look, reminiscent of the old Ghost Recon series. :) Other than the nonsensical storyline (& the sad ending), ACU is a eye-watering technical showpiece. Experience it!

All this, however, is completely ruined by the horrible optimization. The game runs horribly slow for a 3 year old game, and the mouse movement is laggy and sluggish which translates to "NO PROPER MOUSE SUPPORT".

You're encouraged to use stealth tactics because fighting enemies head on is next to impossible 90% of the time, and yet, the poor stealth controls combined with input lag make it next to impossible to kill enemies unnoticed as well. This made for some extremely frustrating missions.

The story is ok, but it's riddled with countless boring and dreadfully repetitive missions. And these are the MAIN STORY MISSIONS. I don't even want to talk about the dullness of millions of side-missions which I couldn't care less about. This is the only Assassin's Creed I haven't tried to complete 100%.

I think the game looks great. I've had a little bit of choppiness on the cutscenes, but nothing that I can't ignore. Any ways enough of the soap box.

Even with the slow frame rate, the game looks stunning. It's massive too. The whole town of Paris to explore and thousands of NPC's on the screen at one time. It looks amazing. Especially when you climb to the top of a historic building like Notre Dame and it pans out to see the whole of Paris. There's also I smaller Versailles to explore with a few missions. This is where the story starts for Arno ( your character through out the story).

As for Gameplay. It's a little Difficult. They sort of fixed the parkour with you now being able to tell Arno to Parkour up or down with the press of different buttons. other wise he takes the "straightest" route. Arno doesn't always go the direction you tell him, but that may be because I still need to get used to the new mechanics. Combat is more fluid, but also more difficult. AI doesn't attack you one at a time anymore so you have to be really paying attention if you're going to play the berserker role a lot. There's also no cue for when they attack other than the animated motion of them attacking. Except for ranged they do have a crosshair icon. Stealth could be a little more refined. It's hard to tell sometimes if you're still in cover mode or not. Moving from cover to cover isn't always perfect either.

Customization. One word. Awesome. I love building my character gear around stealth. They only bad thing is the lack of color schemes. I would have preferred to have like a color wheel and get really custom colors of my choosing, but it's not the worse thing.

The story of course follows Arno. Not gonna spoil it, but it is another revenge story. Pretty similar to Ezio's story from AC2. It does well to keep me engaged, but I haven't played more than three of the sequences because the side quests are actually fun. Lots of things to do. You have lots of assassination missions. The murder mysteries are entertaining. Plus you get weapons and gear from solving the murders to help progress your character and the role you chose to play. Tons of things to do. There's also like a pub & inn place that you renovate for income which you can use to do more renovations or buy more gear for your character. Trust me you need the income for gear. the high end stuff is costly.

It's a lot of fun. Lot's of things to do. Could refine a few things, but all in all a game worth picking up. Especially if you're a fan of the series. Don't let all these nay sayers talk you out of it. But I do recommend some upgrades to your PC if it's been a while.

I do know that some are experiencing glitches. All I can say to them is to make sure they have the latests drivers and to disable SLI entirely to see if they still have problems. Another solution might be to disable 'Motion Blur' in the graphics options. Although I have a 5960X with a Palit GTX 980, I still think that players with less powerfull setups could easily manage to get the game going ...

But a very good CPU (at least a 4xxxK) should be used to play this game. Yes guys, read this well: mid-setups from 4 years ago are not going to give you a good framerate in this game. And a 4770K is not this good compared to a 3770K. Maybe you should go for a new PC if you have this type of setup as all future games are going to be very demanding on the CPU side of things. In fact, the main engines are evolving right now to match the new baseline enacted by cur-gen consoles. As such, the PC basic requirements are already evolving right now ...

Ok but the character will decide to jump backward because why not? Not to mention that it's not even possible to predict where player can jump and where he can't, very useful feature when you want to run away and you stuck and got shot because you can't jump.
Another thing is that progress level demand playing side missions or playing main missions with lower level than recommended for the next mission. Do I should maybe buy some microt...
I'm so disappointed. I love story driven adventure games and it's another after Assassins Creed Odyssey that I decided to uninstall to not bother with such bad games (Odyssey for other reasons). It seems that AC series is not for me. I prefer games where I have full control over my character and progression level is done the right way based on my progress not on playing boring side missions or paying bribe to get boost it.

I recently acquired the game for my PC (AMD Ryzen 5, GTX 1080 ti, 16 GB Ram, 1 TB HDD), and despite a couple of textural errors, the game worked well for me. I really like the background of the saga of Assassin's Creed, with the Templars, and touch historical issues. But why do I put a zero?
    - Because I got it pirated, since in his time I bought it with a friend who has a PC (he had an FX 8370, GTX 980 ti, 12 GB Ram), and the truth is that it was the 70 dollars worse invested.
    - For the unhealthy amount of bugs that version had (the original), there are so many that if I list them, I get to write 4 whole sheets.
    - Because at the time of returning the game, the beloved Ubi denied us the return, and gave us in return Watch Dogs (another game crap more bugged than AC Unity)
    - Above all, by the damn DENUVO (the anti-piracy system), which is what makes Ubi games so screwed up.

Of course I will not blame the developer (Ubisoft Montreal), but the publisher, which is the same headquarters in France of Ubisoft, because they are the ones who give the orders to take out rushed games, show impressive trailers, put microtransactions in $ 70 games, to get more money ...

Ubisoft, what happened to you? I enjoyed with sagas like Rayman, Farcry, Tom Clancy ... now I have to pirate your games ... please, remove that DENUVO at once because it does not strain ...

But I think it's the users' fault, that they buy the game in a massive way, seduced by the trailers, and then they end up eating a very poorly optimized game, but they defend because their cult youtuber was promoting it (and that they have given the press copy and they have given him their briefcases for it). Do we really have to wait 2 or 3 years for them to fix their terribly optimized games? They have seen us the face of fools?

IF YOU ARE NOT SURE OF WHAT THE GAME IS, OR DO NOT CONVINCE, DO NOT BUY IT! NOT WORTH THE PENALTY TO DROP 70 DOLLARS THEN COME A GAME THAT KNOWS A GOOD JOB BUT RUINED BY THEIR PUBLISHER.

This game control is horrendously bad, with at least 1 second delay, making climbing a nightmare, on top of that are repetitive missions that require a lot of climbing and A TIME LIMIT??? Which make this the most frustrated experience I've ever have in ANY Assassin's Creed games.

The story is dull, very predictable. The main character is an idiot, a douche, the one you would say "well,

The game is working well with 2 GTX 680 and Intel core i7 4770k. I love to see how the creators reproduce Paris.
The framerate is good for me but could be better.
I think that ubisoft will patch the game.

Solid title. Actual score is 8.5 out of 10. Rating at 10/10 to offset some of the nerd rage out there.

Pros: Solid controls/gameplay. Voice acting is on point. Visually beautiful, definitely a next-gen title here. Plenty of things to keep you busy. Cons: Steep technical requirements at the time of this review. There is some innovation here, but there's also a lot of familiar

Pros: Solid controls/gameplay. Voice acting is on point. Visually beautiful, definitely a next-gen title here. Plenty of things to keep you busy.

Cons: Steep technical requirements at the time of this review. There is some innovation here, but there's also a lot of familiar territory -- if you bought an Assassin's Creed game and weren't expecting carry over of familiar gameplay, you bought the wrong game.

Note: At the time of this review, the technical requirements to run this game are steep. It appears to be purring along on a GTX 970, but having loaded it up on my prior HD 6950 card for comparison it brought the card to its knees -- If you aren't rocking current gen hardware, or planning on turning down the eye candy, I'd recommend you wait to check to see if patching will improve PC optimization.

Bottom line: Smoke 'em if you've got 'em.

Well at least it's better than ACIII. [Issue#257, p.66]

Newfound openness of Assassin’s Creed demonstrates just how inadequate its AI really is for a stealth game: pampered nobility usually simply ignores a bloodied body on the dance floor, and guards don’t care much either. At least they’ve learned how to fight: unless you “cheat” with smoke bombs, it’s highly unlikely you’ll survive a melee against a group. [Jan 2015, p.62]

As I write this, Assassin’s Creed: Unity is a bugfest, but technical problems, however annoying, can and probably will be fixed. It is not cracks in textures that it is the most worrying thing about Unity, but the cracks in game design and writing.
