The story in AC Origins is entirely dull, the side-quest writing is entirely abysmal. The writing in this game is like it was done by a lame 10 year-old. And the NPC voice-acting is atrocious. The only way to possibly enjoy AC Origins is to skip all of the dialog because it's that bad.

There seems to be 1 person doing all of the non-mainstory male voice-overs, and 1 person doing all of the female VOs. The person who does all the non-mainquest NPC male voice-overs can't control their French accent, and so the voices are clearly a person with a French accent attempting an Egyptian accent, but doing a poor job of it.

The combat in Origins is supremely boring. There is nothing inspired about the writing, characters, combat... OC: Origins is generic action-adventure game #3586.

Nearly everything that made the AC games exciting and interesting is gone in Origins, and Origins doesn't replace those elements with anything appreciable. Origins is a hollow shell of a game and a betrayal of what the series used to be, and it is a complete waste of an origins story. Enough with these garbage filler games: Origins, Odyssey, and even (though not as bad) Syndicate and Unity. We need Assassin's Creed to come back. This series has fallen so very low into sub-mediocrity that everything after AC4 is going to have to be retconned to save it.

How can such an amazing concept go so bad. Assassin's Creed are only getting worse. Bland, bland, bland. Repetitive missions. Combat getting worse and worse.
The level system is so terrible. The story is so meaningless. The characters so unlovable...
    No redemption it seems.

    Solidly meh.

This is a (mostly)brilliant open-world game that I played after AC Oddysey. Oddysey is better in every possible way except for the story. Some of the boss fights in this game are painful crap e.g., Gamilat. Making you play through some of the missions with Aya who you can't equip or spec with skill points is also crap. The archers use rail guns and juke back and forth

As a fan since the first game, this is not an assassin game. Stealth and planning is foregone for a lite version of your run-of-the-mill third person action RGP battle-mechanics. If I wanted a poor version of The Witcher III or Horizon, I'd play those games instead.

Instead of assassinations it relies heavily on damage spongy boss battles, which are a chore to grind down. Despite having some of the most shallow mechanics in the genre, it also manages to have some of the clunkiest, least intuitive controls. For example: to change weapons in a fight, you literally have to let go in the movement stick making you an easy target for your enemy.

The world is beautiful, but lacks interactivity the verticality of older titles afforded it. It's pretty but mostly just backdrop rather than a gameplay element. The game is grindy, forcing you to level up on trash mobs and super bare-bones side quests to meet main quest level requirements. The setting is enjoyable but the characters and story are rather dry and generic.

I feel the game really is a step back in every respect from the older games, even combat. For me, this kills off the Assassin's Creed franchise. I come to this franchise for variety, not more of the same but worse.

(Also, this game has Denuvo, the most anti-consumer garbage DRM out there which tanks performance and load times. It's been verified to introduce a ton of stuttering. In other words, those that pirate it have the better experience.)

With any story, I feel it’s easier to follow when you know how a character feels through the story, and Bayek had hardly any character, so it was hard for me to stay engaged in the story. I feel Unity, although really buggy and in dire need of a lot of polishing, was a step in the right direction. I've pretty much missed out on the AC games but this one really caught my eye and I'm glad it did! The game runs great (seriously, all maxed and never under 70fps, usually above 100, 1080gtx w/6700@4.5, 27" gsync 1080p), the environments look stunning, and there are tons of fun things to do and explore. I love historical games, and enjoy open world RPGs a lot as well

    * Ability to toggle Bayek's hood on and off
    * Aya's rendering was very detailed and life-like, (not to mention pretty)
    * Papyrus puzzles were very enjoyable
    * Details of NPC animation activities such as pulling blocks for buildings, etc
    * Horse mechanics allowing a companion on your horse with you
    * Nice work with the lighting / sunsets
    * The sandstorms are well-done, adds immersion
    * For the berzerk sting - I love that they re-used the exact sound from AC2's poison blade (AC2 is still the best in the series)
    * I enjoyed the presence of William Miles in the present day story
    * Enjoyed the story overall - very good ending to the game culminating in the beginning of the Assassin Order and the Assassin's Creed

    Cons:

    * No SLI Support (this alone will always mean I won't buy the game until I can get it for next to nothing)
    * Poor combat system. Significant downgrade from most previous AC games. The new hitbox system is absolutely terrible. I miss the AC3 / 4 / Rogue combat system terribly.
    * Awful performance and it's not because of GPU limitation (I'm running (2) 1080 Ti Cards) - anytime I walk into a city area my CPU & GPU is only being used around 60-70% but there's hitching galore which indicates problems with the game engine / poor optimization of it. (I also suspect the multiple forms of DRM in the game are contributing to this). Ultimately this makes the game feel like I'm playing an alpha build of it...the performance is so terrible inside the cities that you can't even appreciate the effort that went into the detail of the world.
    * Controller UI for tool selection - was much easier in previous games.
    * DRM - Both Denuvo & VMProtect in the game which directly impact performance and do not prevent piracy.
    * Limited kill animations - I really miss the multifinishers / animation system. Not sure why they moved to a hitbox combat system - likely because they were essentially trying to copy Witcher 3 when they made this game instead of attempting to innovate while also adding good ideas from other developers (and let me clue you in here Ubisoft - the combat in Witcher 2 and 3 was the lowpoint of those games - their mature story and worldbuilding / character development were what set them apart.) Going from the enjoyable animation style combat in AC3 / 4 / Rogue and even Syndicate to a hitbox combat system is a significant downgrade. Ubisoft is so afraid to try something new and innovate that it limits them significantly. This is why their games are always going to be a B-TEAM level experience when compared to a developer like CD Projekt Red.
    * Lack of an information database
    * Poor story explanation of your targets & people - they don't really tell you who these people are or what they specifically had to do with the backstory, etc. You don't know who they are in the Egyptian gov't, etc. It's just very lacking in details.
    * Some unnecessary SJW gender-politics in the game - Ubisoft has been getting more into the gender politics BS of late. They have a couple missions where it's made very clear the entire point of the missions is to convince the player that "girls can do everything boys can", lol. There's too much of this crap in movies and games today.
    * Inconstency in the present day story - for example when Bayek sees the information from the ancient mechanisms - he doesn't react. Ezio saw things in AC2 and had a reasonable reaction to it - so that was weird.
    * Poor present-day story
    * I miss the old voice actor for William Miles from AC3 - this new guy has a flat delivery.
    * Fight with Septimius - tough to take seriously having Aya fight a dude who is 3-4x her size and better equipped. This was just more of the SJW / feminist silliness in this game's plot
    * When showing Brutus toward the end of the base game, they should have had him wearing his "Brutus Armor" from AC Brotherhood
    * A LOT of filler-content. Most locations on the map are just filler content - it's pretty, but there's so many locations that have loot / guardposts that you just have to find the treasure and kill some random target for no apparent reason that it becomes tedious, especially since there's no real reason to go in there and kill or rob these people to begin with. Literally this type of content took the game from about a standard 50-hour run to about a 100-hour run which is just artificially making the game longer with tedious side content. I'd prefer solid story / campaign content or side missions that tie in with the main story, etc. instead of collectibles
    * Clunky ship combat

If it wasn't for the graphics problems and a few bad bugs the game would get a 10 out of 10 from me. It seems to me they are trying to follow witcher 3's format and they added some rpg elements to assassin's creed. I like the direction the series is going in.

The main story is mediocre at best with a very small number of powerful moments. While the characters certainly are interesting, they go through relatively little development over the course of the story.

Other than that, it's... Assassin's Creed. You sneak around, you kill people, you climb towers, you collect things. The last two things are probably the game's biggest issue. It's just too much. The map is ridiculously big and is chock full of side-activities that are ultimately pointless. Sidequests are neat, but again, are nothing to write home about. Other than that it's your usual collectathon. Go to location, pick things up/kill specific enemies, rinse, repeat. It is beyond me how anyone could think that it is a good idea to develop the game like this. It's overwhelming and exhausting. The only way around this is to entirely focus on the main story which causes me to feel like I'm skipping over content I have paid for.

Really, it's a shame that more linear singleplayer experiences are going the way of the Dodo as far as multi-platform AAA developers are concerned. Most new AAA games are either multiplayer-only/focused or live services or open-world games or a mix of all of those - simply because it keeps people playing and allows for aggressive monetization using microtransactions. Maybe I should stick to indie and A or AA games.

Anyhow. It's not great and it's not bad. If you are on the market for a tedious, repetitive open-world game and you see it on sale for

Shield gameplay that got boring in DS2 and been removed and laughed at in Bloodborne in 2015, been copied in AC in 2017. Makes gameplay boring and repetitive af, while not bringing anything fascinating. Cool animations of parrying and killing more than 1 enemy - removed. Everything that been lackluster in Wither and DS - blindly copied while AC also add broken "lock-on" on top of it.

The only thing that i would improve, would be the story and the amount of secondary missions, but even with that, is one of my favorite games.

The game has great graphics, good details and a large map to discover and animals to hunt but it's badly optimized and there is no attachment to the game since the story isn't that good. The combat is okay.

Parts of the game are visually astonishing, especially the underworlds in the second DLC. And they had the right idea about the combat, even though it's still undercooked in Origins and it took Odyssey to perfect it. But relying on side quests instead of activities is a huge downer. They are boring, repetitive and unrewarding. I MUCH more preferred activities of the old AC model.

However, they used the same reliefs and fake hieroglyphs in almost every temple and statues. For example sitting pharaoh statues had the same name carved on it. "Men kheper re" and the game says it's Rameses. :) Such flaws got me bored.

The game most of the time is boring. The cutscenes lacked emotion and felt disconnected. You trigger a cutscene, try to concentrate on what's going and then a loading screen! That's not how you handle the transition between gameplay and cutscenes.

I tried to like Bayek since he's ethnic Egyptian but unfortunately he didn't left me any impression. Aya was much more interesting, I wish we had played with her only.

The story and the historical background is really cool tough. The ending was also intense.

Gameplay was meh... The new fighting mechanics are really cool but lacked diversity and felt repetitive. Skill tree is meaningless because you don't feel Bayek is improving.

And the murmurs of Egyptian NPC's are silly. Dialogues don't make sense.

If only the game was much more detailed.. All in all the land of Egypt is amazing to traverse and story is worth seeing.

Graphics are good, sound effects and voice acting are great. Soundtrack is perfect.

I mean; how do you make the most interesting character Julius Caesar and his legendary love story with Cleopatra boring? I don't know. The longer I play, the more I realize that writers and directors at Ubisoft just don't give a **** about history. I don't expect the executives to care, but at least the creators should be history buffs. Alas, nobody cares about the true meaning of history no more. Ancient Egypt is just a decoration for these blue haired liberals. I mean; I still will give this game a high rating. You can literally climb on top of a hill and see literally everything up to the distant horizons. And it all looks so gorgeous.

Many times I'd just take a horse and aimlessly wander through the vast empty deserts just to enjoy the eerie serenity and feeling of isolation. And it's amazing how you can just hop on a horse and gallop from one end of the world to the other in one seamless motion, no loading between areas, no mountains popping in view... it's all just there at any time and it makes you really feel the distance between areas.

As for the story I had no idea what was going on more than half the time. It's like the game assumes you have some previous knowledge of Egyptian history and customs because I was often left very confused as to what was going on and what characters were talking about.

Fortunately I didn't care about the confusing plot because I was having so much fun with the game anyway. There's just so much to do that after 70 hours I had to force myself to stop playing and move on to different games. It's extremely addicting. Most of the fun is in the incredible details in the enormous world. Like getting lost in the desert and stumbling upon a hidden oasis with mystic powers. Climbing on top of the highest hill on an ominous looking mountain and discovering a long forgotten grave. Chasing after the mysterious illusions that stalk you in the scorching sun. Sliding down from the top of the pyramid and raiding its deepest tombs. Man, this game...

One thing that really bugged me was the new combat system. It went from cool and satisfying action-filled fights in the previous games to generic dark-souls-like fights where you just dodge like crazy and spam opponents with hits to make numbers fly out of them. Sigh. What's even worse is that the main determinant of each fight is your level. Higher level = you win, lower level = you lose. Who knew an arrow to the head doesn't kill a guard because he's 2 levels above you which makes his head immune to your arrows. Fvck logic. And having to make sure all your weapons are keeping up with your level all the time, calculating damage, looting for hours to afford a slightly better weapon... it was a very tiring grind.

Secondly, like every AC game the anti-aliasing is horrible. I had to use a combination of anti-aliasing and sharpening effects with Reshade to make it look good.

    Oh and yeah, Denuvo.

Visual fidelity, world design, magical setting, great main character, mechanics and combat are significantly improved over previous games (and tweakable with Animus Control Panel), post-assassination cutscenes are the best in the series, questing and story feels well thought and diversified. This is how I felt about the game for a long time, more than half of total playthrough. As far as open world story driven 3rd person RPGs go, this felt evey bit as good as the greatest games of the genre and gave the same amazement that Witcher 3 or NieR Automata did. Unfortunately it didn't last till the end of the game as from some point the story got a massive decrease in quality to the point of total ridiculousness, very repeatable landscape and extremely monotonic soundtrack of literally just 3 or 4 tracks for the entire game caused a natural weariness from seeing and hearing exactly the same thing for 50+ hours, game was also no longer trying to diversify anything and felt extremely repetitive and generic. So in the end I was forcing myself to finish the game. Then I hoped for something refreshing with two main DLCs, but to no avail and I was forcing through them too. Unbelievable how much of a rollercoaster this game was. It held a great promise at the beginning and really felt amazing for well over a half of playthrough, but managed to ruin it completely. There is simply a point at which game falls on its face completely and degrades drastically compared to earlier parts, leaving this great promise unfulfilled, destroyed even. This seems to be the case with the entire AC series, which is also a great concept that holds a great promise, but it is never fulfiled. Still, I had amazing time with it for the most part, but it is just so underdeveloped and unsatisfying in the later parts that it leaves you with disappointment and a lot to be desired, especially after how promising the game feels at the beginning. Bad (mostly due to open world mechanic):

Visually it’s fantastic, with superb graphics, so perfect that even in the most deserted areas it is visually stunning and full of details. And details were not spared and everything seems unique. In these great open world games it is very common to reuse resources, but here everything seems different. all cities have their unique architectural elements all the caves, dungeons and fortresses are different even taking into account all the normal similarities.

The main quest it is interesting and emotional. And it's huge… when you think you're ending you still have more and more. The secondary quests are very varied, having numerous small interesting stories that help in the immersion of the historical period and the construction and energy of the world.

Overall it's a fantastic experience which can last more than 80 hours, easily. A must have to any fan of Assassin's Creed franchise and any Action-RPG fan.

Leaving the linear storyline AC Origins has most of the surprises the franchise can provide us with.
Maybe it not as good as Witcher3 or a perfect AC game like AC2 but still it is one of the good games especially of 2017.

But overall, this game's enjoyable, I found so much fun and great experience.

    SINOPSIS

    CONCLUSION

The game, while enjoyable for a few hours - quickly became boring, and I had little desire to continue playing. The story was not captivating enough for me to be interested for long, and I found myself skipping the cut-scenes after a while. (I did play a total of 20 hours though - I couldn't be bothered to finish it)
This is basically the Witcher 3 in Egypt
It largely borrows the pathetic "investigation" mechanic from the Witcher 3 - where you investigate an area, usually a crime scene for clues - but basically execute zero intelligence or problem solving doing it; just going through the motions.
Cut scenes were patchy - some looked great, but they seemed to get less polished as the game progressed.
It is a truly massive game - with a large world, and lots to do. However, I would say it is certainly a case of quantity over quality.

    Сomeback is real

Dude, breaking all the fences in a 30m radius at 7km/h is not keeping a low profile

I just kept going... But the breaking point for me was that, at level 3, i was roaming around.
I found a hostage, and freed him. I will not talk about how the hostage was constantly speaking
BAYEK? IS THAT YOU? ... HEY, WHERE ARE YOU GOING, SAVE ME
While i was right in front of him fighting guards.

Them, sneaking into another house, looking for the other hostages, 2 immortal flamingos spawned inside. They just stood there, 2 immortal pink tall flamingos.

    Ok

Them, scanning for more hostages and killing who was on my sight with a bow, I saw 3 enemys just under me. I went for the kill.
One of them just started burning out of nowhere, and they all tried to flee. At no avail. They got stuck trying to climb the smallest wall i have ever seen.
I just kept attacking them while they failed to climb.

Suddenly, a interaction pops up after i killed them 3. CONFIRM KILL.
Thought that had something to do with the NPC dying on fire (?)

    No,
    It was the Pharao,
I was supposed to fight him,
I was level 3, i did nothing, nothing, i just killed a deer or something,
How did i end up killing the Pharao without noticing it?
And to top it off, the cutscene showed us fighting like it was really a BIG DEAL.
    Dude, it wasnt

This was just one example, this game is broken, not graphically (Also) but its core gameplay, level design, progression and everything i tried to do, just didnt worked.

It's also worth noting that this game obviously tried to emulate TW3 in basically every way possible - the "witcher senses," the horse, the huge open world, citizens calling upon you to dispose of a nuisance for a nominal fee, etc. Apart from that, it's your basic Assassin's Creed game - you jump around from roof-to-roof towards various icons on the map. The graphics are incredible, but I did have to upgrade my computer quite a bit to run the game. I started with an i7-8700K and a GTX 970, and that didn't even come close to cutting it - the in-game performance rating was "not stable," at best, and that was with medium settings. I bought a 1080 ti, and the game runs flawlessly - this obviously came at substantial expense. I'm not blown away with the story, thus far. It's not bad, by any stretch, but TW3...The combat mechanics are very, very good - this game beats TW3 in that department. Also, the graphics are slightly better TW3's. Expand

The new loot and gear system that they added in was a great addition but the thing that did it for me was the fact that the side quests were meaningful and story driven. The best entry into the series since Black Flag, which is brought down by a flawed combat system, but with an engaging story and convincing graphics and sound that make you believe you're in the Roman Egypt. Great technical state, no glitches or crashes whatsoever.

Why bother play this game when there is a Witcher 3 game that is a galaxy far far away from this garbage. They tried so had to make the world as big as possible without putting time in other important stuff like story and other stuff that made AC an AC game.

The story is bad with too many tailing missions. The performance is so damn bad and the worst thing of this game on even the high end PCs. All in all AC is totally dead to me after AC-Syndicate which was an awesome game which was very underrated by many and many did not even give it a chance.

Let me tell you something you damn Ubisoft. There was nothing wrong with the previous ACs because each one was getting better and better. The only downside is that they lacked the content off side missions and a bit smarter Ai. And in the end they were all better than this.

Beautiful graphics, scenery and detail. Ubi brought ancient Egypt to life, its utterly stunning. However, It's a little boring, gameplay wise, Singleplayer MMO style grindfest. You don't feel like an assassin. Older AC titles are build around a stealth kill system and penalised open warfare, this does the opposite, and the story isn't that gripping to begin with.

Boring story, repetitive side quests, and you are forced to do them in order to rise your level up, so you could proceed to your main story. And those side quests are pretty much the same - clear bandit camps or gather some materials, that's it.

Since the story ended in AC III with Desmond Miles, AC franchise is pretty much dead. (The Black Flag was good game without a doubt, but it was more like a pirate game, not really about Assassins vs The Order based game). In AC: Origins there are no more conspiracy theories, like it was in first AC games that was main momentum of this franchise, all we have left is unimmersive, repetitive, grinding bs with Assassin's Creed brand on it.

The game runs great (seriously, all maxed and never under 70fps, usually above 100, 1080gtx w/6700@4.5, 27" gsync 1080p), the environments look stunning, and there are tons of fun things to do and explore.

I love historical games, and enjoy open world RPGs a lot as well and this is right in there. Of course the story isn't Witcher 3, but it's engaging enough for me to really feel immersed in Ptolemaic Egypt. I can highly recommend this game if you are looking for what it has to offer.

But she tries to do it carefully, without any revolutions: leaving her best elements, and the worst ones replacing them with popular and actual mechanics. It seems that this approach works. I have been scolding Assassin's Creed for many years. The series did not develop gameplay and from year to year annoyed with the same elements. But there was always one thing that justifies the existence of Assassin's Creed, no matter what stagnation the franchise might be - the elaboration of the setting. The game could be a bad stealth, a bad slasher, a bad historical fanfic, but it was always an ideal way to study the era. The Great French Revolution, the Third Crusade, the Renaissance - every time line in the series was worked out in the most detail. Assassin's Creed immerses in the era, acquaints with its figures, demonstrates all the sights from all sides and gives, albeit with fantastic digressions, to participate in the most important of its events. It's one thing to flip through books and watch movies, the other is to be there. Assassin's Creed: Origins enchants with the scorching Egyptian sun, majestic pyramids and oases, lost deserts, animal world and everyday life of people from such a distant mysterious era. Mysterious, but in some way native. In Russia, the history of ancient Egypt has traditionally been given a lot of time in the school curriculum (I do not know why), so this whole topic with pharaohs and the secrets of the pyramids responds with nostalgic feelings. And this is after a superficial acquaintance: I still have to go around the whole of Egypt and get to know Cleopatra - my impressions will certainly be more than complete. But the world would be good not only to examine, but also to explore, right? Origins originally swung to the RPG-genre. His elements in the series were present before, but what they showed us and told the developers about the new part was like the Witcher at all. In fact, it is. Locations monstrously huge, but carefully worked out. With one caveat - kilometers between deserts and cliffs stretched between detailed sites. It seems I'm beginning to understand why the developers chose the ancient Egyptian setting ... In general, you feel the trick, but it looks logical, and therefore does not annoy. Especially "empty" kilometers can be quickly and conveniently overcome on horseback and camels. Here, by the way, they added a witch-like system of the autopilot: he indicated the point on the map, pressed the button, and the riding animal himself rushes you where necessary. It's terribly convenient, I must say, although you feel like a complete lazy person. But as far as the content content of all these beauties is concerned, there is nothing to complain about. There are very, very many sidelines: the map is literally full of question marks ("interesting places"). But how much are they really interesting? Find in the treasure zone, kill the dangerous beast, kill the captain - and the like. There are a lot of options how to spend time, but you will not find anything new. Perhaps this will change later, but I strongly doubt it. However, more than about the RPG-elements and Egypt, we were told only about the combat system. Developers finally realized that a boevka based on counterattacks alone (when an icon appears on the enemy!) Is a bad idea for 2017. So we decided to add, suddenly, a bit of gameplay. The new system is quite simple: we fix ourselves on the enemy, defend ourselves with a shield, inflict quick blows for the damage, strong ones - to break through the defense, we periodically accumulate adrenaline and go pie-ins. It works quite well: weak enemies can be called, and with those that are fatter, the fights are reminiscent of For Honor. And the dynamics, and the general feeling of the character and weapons. Together with the change of swords, the boulevard-halberd, the mechanic is also changing. Different weapons are not just skins, everyone has his own physics. Here the game of the same "The Witcher" even works. Claims so far two: not always transparent hitboxes and the need to open parry as a skill in the process of pumping - this in mechanics should be immediately. It seems that the path chosen by the developers for the revival of Assassin's Creed is working. It harmoniously combines the classic elements of the series, and new mechanics, bringing it closer to the big RPG. This is clearly seen in the example of a directly role-based system - everything, it would seem, is elementary: we grow in levels, get skill points, buy new skills. But the tree of skills is interestingly intertwined, its three directions are connected non-linearly, they are not separated from each other by a "wall" - it adds depth. Expand

I'm computer literate and this game wont let me play. Steam won't refund me because if you leave yourself logged into UPlay it tallies up your play hours! This is insanity. I've been a gamer for 20 years and have never been scammed by a major company like this.

The resurrection of the seemingly exhausted series was successful. Beautiful and enormous Egypt is complemented by the sympathetic hero Bayek and plenty of modifications to the proven formula. [Issue#280]

This killer holiday in Egypt is definitely no boring. On the contrary, it is a pleasant excursion to the times, when the sphinx had a nose, and mysterious killers did not call themselves assassins. You cannot find a nicer version of an Ancient Egypt in any other game, and up to it it’s entertaining. A modest family story affects the whole empire at the end, and you will forgive a handful of bugs to its charismatic heroes, as well as the fact, that you have played the same pattern so many times, just in another scenery.

Ubisoft Montreal managed to make Egypt not only beautiful, but extremely atmospheric. When you’re admiring the city and a mounted patrol rushes past you, you always get that urge to step aside to avoid getting trampled, even though you know you can eviscerate them all in a blink of an eye.
