Except the bugs and crashes that are all fixable, or will be fixed, the best mmo-RPG fantasy shooter i have ever played. The overall feeling when playing this game is a must.

First I will start by saying that I am a long time fan of Bioware, and love the MassEffect series as well as StarWars KOTR I&II, Jade Empire, etc. Great games, and great storytellers. There were issues with Andromeda in the beginning, and MassEffect 3 had terrible endings, but Anthem is different. At least to me, it is. I have tons of hours into the game, and still loving it as much as when I picked it up. Much like a lot of other Bioware fans I was eagerly awaiting this game. I was not disappointed with what I expected to be in the game vs. reality. I knew that this game was going to be very combat focused, and yet...it isn't. A lot of folks are saying that the characters and story are flat, and without giving spoilers or details, I disagree. The world that you live in outside of combat IS FULL of NPC characters to chat with between quests, and missions. These characters increase as you rank up and unlock things in the game.

I feel the game itself is well executed and despite some early beta/alpha bugs (all of which or most have been worked out now btw). I like the characters, I love the Javalins and piloting one is well done too. The guns feel responsive (and there are a ton of weapons), and the enemies DO NOT feel like bullet sponges. It's rewarding to hit an enemy and watch them react to the hit, or even knock them out of the air if they are flying.

A lot of others are comparing this to WarFrame and Destiny, I have played both and can say this game is different enough. WarFrame is very technical and requires a lot of hours and micro-transactions to "earn" all the frames etc. So far, I have spent 0 extra cash, and have been able to buy a totally new look for a few Javalins. WarFrame has a lot more customization and the number of "frames", but again the enemies are different, the world is different, WarFrame is full of micro-transactions, it's not the same game, though similar.

Destiny is an FPS and aside from that is VERY linear in nature, Anthem is more open as you can freely move and fly around the world, even go under water. Destiny is pretty much a set map for each zone or area/level (pretty sure if you fall into the water, you die). Both games are similar in play-style since they are both shooters, but that is really where I see any similarity stop. Destiny had very little character or relationship building (really none), it was pretty much go to the next level, and then a tiny bit of dialogue (which was all very cheeky and flat). With Anthem, I feel like you get full conversations, and later on you get more and more people to chat with. It has a lot more "character" not to be punny.

In closing, I would highly recommend Anthem to anyone who enjoys multiplayer PVE 3rd Person shooters, either with or without friends this game is a blast. The story elements are great, and the characters you will meet will keep you wanting to unlock new parts of the game to see what or who might be next.

This game to me has broken a funk that I had for the past few months and for the first time in a while I have really wanted to come home and plug into a game. Loving Anthem, every minute of it!

I've thoroughly enjoyed the game play. The story isn't the greatest in the world but I've seen worse. Bioware stories are always better in a vacuum. I believe the dissatisfaction stems from a lack of knowledge. Games of this type never start out fully fleshed out. Vanilla WoW had plenty of issues and that was a pay to play game after the initial purchase.

In all honesty I think the reviewers are likely not fans of this genre or have unrealistic expectations. Sure there are issues with the game. That being said it delivers in plenty of areas that result in fun gun play and a beautiful environment. I've encountered 2 game stopping glitches in 30 hours. Other than that pretty much a great time. Loading times aren't nearly as bad as all of you claim. I've timed them between 40 and 120 seconds. There have been games with worse that no one complained about. Likely it is due to the fast paced nature of cooperative MMORPG Looter shooter style games. You want to get in and out quickly and enjoy yourself. I get it we all have stuff to do. Understand the limits of the situation and you'll manage your expectations accordingly. The Frostbite engine is awesome and produces some nice environments with decent physics and fun gameplay. However, it is clearly a demanding engine. That knowledge alone should tell you the consoles will have some longer load times due to that demand. If you want shorter load times get a PC. I've watched a 360 take 4 minutes to load Skyrim, an amazing game. My PC could load that same main area within 20 seconds. I'm more impressed Bioware managed to optimize the console hardware as much as they did.

All you do is look for room to complain rather than marvel at some of the greatness a product has to offer. Ignorance breeds all kinds of dissatisfaction in a product. I believe there is a correlation to the growing gamer community in relation to these types of games and the amount of knowledge to contextualize what you're actually experiencing. Outside of the technical ignorance there is the financial ignorance. I want you all to think about the last time a standard launch version of a video game exceeded 60 dollars. Offhand it was more than a decade ago. Now think about the cost of designing a game this complex with servers and the support staff to run it around the clock. I don't even need to formally run the numbers to tell you the cost to produce these games has gone up, especially online based games that require dedicated servers. The simple conclusion is that if the cost to produce increases and the cost to sell doesn't they will need to find ways to generate revenue elsewhere through DLC, expansions, or cosmetic goods. This stuff isn't free and a billion dollar gaming company doesn't grow off of giving away their profit margin. All of this complaining won't force the gaming companies to adapt to your demands. It will make them realize they can't produce games of this complexity for a price you're willing to pay. All we will have left is trash like Fortnite.

So please continue to complain and watch every good developer disappear. You'll get F2P trash that was slapped together overnight with the depth and complexity of the play dough my grandmother used to make when I was a kid. I could ramble longer but I doubt many will read this and its just me ranting at the people ranting.

This is a clear case of "haters." I am sure that many of the critics have not even played the game.
Currently the game does not deserve a 10, it is a 7-8 game sincerely.
There are some technical errors, but I have not suffered any. I would rate as positive: -The gameplay is very very good. When you are flying or fighting is very frenzied while the game is very smooth. Gameplay of 10.

I think in a few months we will be facing a game that will mark a before and after.
It's a pity they did not wait to get it out when fully developed. When it came out it could have been a very developed beta. Right now the game sinks content endgame in addition to failures in the loot system that would have been solved if they had tested it before.

The most positive thing is that EA is listening attentively to the community and they are adding big patches every so often.
It is a very ambitious project to abandon it so I am sure that in a short time we will be facing a huge game.

People are able to reach max level with quality builds in a couple of weeks, but to get to true top tier still takes hundreds or thousands of hours. Biggest issue is lack of content, but the vitriol from the launch and the inability of some trolls to let it go has caused them to focus on a complete rework. In 2019 the game had a rough launch. You can educate yourself and learn about the hell the developers were forced to go through making this game, blame EA, if anybody. It had a lot of bugs and the developers were forced to rush a launch after months of crunch hours. It's not that they didn't care, they were burnt out against their will. Many had to take months of leave due to mental health issues.

Throughout 2019 many issues were addressed, but to many gamers, it was too late. Many Mass Effect fanboys were also butthurt that the development of this game "ruined" Andromeda. Gamers are some of the most entitled, spoiled people you will meet. Some even harass and make death threats towards developers over a video game(which are basically modern toys) not being to their liking. Absolutely pathetic.

2020 saw more bug fixes, QOL improvements, and a promise of a rework that wasn't necessary. Unfortunately, COVID-19 happened making game dev's jobs even harder and by 2021 EA saw the rework as too much of an investment.

As of right now, this game is a lot of fun. Most of the content planned for the game wasn't launched. A rework wasn't necessary, it just needed more content. There were a total of 9 strongholds planned and at least 3 cataclysms. Had these been released, the game would be significantly better. The player base isn't very large but there are a decent number of dedicated fans still playing and new players constantly checking it out thanks to being part of EA Play.

Bioware could easily breathe life into this game without a full rework. They would need to just launch the planned content. Add the additional strongholds and cataclysms. Add a few more story missions for the 3 factions. Add a few more varieties of scenarios for world events and contracts. A few more weapons(especially melee) would be appreciated and an increase in the level cap to 40 would also be welcomed(and maybe a GM4 difficulty to go with the power increase). It's not something they can fix overnight, but it doesn't require a full redesign of the game.

I'm not a veteran Anthem player, I've only got almost 200 hours invested, but I haven't completely given up hope on this game or IP. The gameplay is a lot of fun and the lore(if you dive deeper into it in game) is actually pretty interesting. Maybe as more people try it out, more people will realize that it's actually a fun game and EA/Bioware will see there is still something to salvage and money to be made(because we all know that's all they care about). If they roll out some more content, more people will come back.

If you haven't played it yet, don't be a sheep. Play it yourself and be the judge. Don't let other people do the thinking for you. If I hadn't tried it myself I would have missed out on what quickly became one of my favorite modern games.

I don't know, but I have hardly any issues with the PC version as compared to the Xbox version. I've rolled this with my crew on Xbox, and ran into tons of server issues, game glitches, and several other issues. But all in all, the PC version has been a fun experience. AS for the game, the scenery is awesome, the story is interesting. The voice acting is pretty good, but I have heard worse. Not everyone has the power of Commander Shepherd, or Marcus Fenix. When you start to level up, you need to increase your threat level. After a certain point, Hard, is not really that hard at all. So you need to take it up a notch. That would be my only complaint. If you are playing this on normal, your're a newb, or don't like a challenge. Other than that, it's a really fun game to explore with your friends. I have my Setting at Ultra, with a solid 62fps. Running a GTX1060 6gig Over Clocked, and AMD Ryzen7 8 core 3.2. Currently only 16gigs of DDR4 3200, and a 1tb SSD. Very pleased with the game, and having fun. Oh, just a point of interest, you don't need to make micro-transactions. They are there if you would like, but I didn't do that. I just hold on to my money until I have what I want to get what I want. Nobody is putting a gun to your head to buy something. And if you are too impatient to wait, that sounds like another issue for your psychiatrist. I personally will not spend money on the transactions if I can just earn it. To complain about the micro-transactions is just childish. You do not have to pay to play, cause it isn't like those items make you stronger. Go earn some coin running contracts down. As a team with friends is the best way to earn tons of extra coin. I was only part of the way through the story when I bought a bunch of items for my Javelin. Also, just join Origin Access Premier, and pay that little monthly fee, and get the Legion of Dawn edition with the subscription. So you pay, like $12, for a month. If you don't like the game, all of the other Origin games are there for you. Or if you don't like any of it, cancel the subscription, and you lost only the $12. Didn't pay full price for the game, and then you can complain about that as well. But seriously, the game is fun, and I just shared a way for you to get access to the Legion of Dawn Edition, for less than the price of the full game. And an easy way to get out of it if you don't like it. Boom goes the dynamite. People are making life to be way more difficult than it really is. I hope this helps at least some of you. And to the people saying it is nothing new, well, is anything anymore? I have been playing video games since years before a lot of you were born. I have been through the, been there done that, years and years now. Absolutely nothing coming out is new. Except the graphics. They keep on getting better. You look for a game that is fun to play. Period. Nothing is new anymore. I think a lot of you are crying over the fact there is no PVP. Well, that is a good thing. Many people give Anthem a low rating due to bugs. I don't take bugs into consideration when rating a game. The bugs will be fixed. Saying that, when you brush away the bugs, the game is amazing. If you don't want to deal with the bugs, I'd recommend waiting another month or so to play the game.

The combat is fun and each javelin's way of fighting is unique. You can be an Interceptor fighting up in the face of your enemies in explosive and intense combat. You can be a Storm calmly floating 50 yards up while raining death and destruction down below you. You can be a Colossus lobbing bombs at the hordes or smashing through them with your shield. You can be a Ranger delivering tactical punishment or support from a range while remaining just agile enough to avoid the enemy attacks, but also agile enough to deliver the coup de grâce with your hidden sword.

The story is intriguing and I actually cared about the characters. There is the main story and 3 main agents stories. It takes about 40 hours to complete the main story and the agent stories if you are playing through at a casual pace. There are also a ton of side stories around the city (dialogue only).

Yes, the graphics are amazing.....but what really is important about the visuals is the design. The scenery is amazing. I commonly find myself wishing I could pause the game just to take in everything around me.

As for endgame, there are 3 daily legendary contracts (increased difficulty randomly generated missions with a better loot table), 3 strongholds (aka dungeon/raid), an unlimited supply of randomly generated freelancer contracts, and a free roam mode. What this game really needs, is an "endless mode". I would also like to see some things equivalent to Diablo's bounties, greater rifts, boss fights, etc... Maybe some PvP? It took a while for the other "looter shooters" to add all the endgame content that they wanted, so I'm going to sit back and be patient.

A lot of people complain about load times, and also complain about strange issues that are caused by playing this game with a hard disk drive. If you play this game with a hard disk drive, you WILL have problems. A game with textures and detail this extravagant is too much for a HDD. Play this game on a solid state drive. HDD is a dying technology. Frankly, I'm happy to see a game developer make a game that actually takes advantage of the power of a SSD. It's time we move out of the realm of old primitive HDDs. If you do not have a SSD, go get one, install Windows and your games on it. This will be the single biggest performance boost to you computer you have ever experienced.

For the record, I have 110 hours in the game. I beat all of the main story missions including the agent stories at about 40 hours of play-time. So, I've spent ~70 hours playing strongholds, repeatable missions, and playing the story missions with my friends. I have a ~500 gear score Storm and Interceptor, and ~470 gear score Colossus and Ranger. I think 506 is the current max possible gear score. I'm excited when I get home from work each day because I get to play some Anthem. As long as that excitement is still there, BioWare has done something right.

I give the game a 9/10. -1 point for little annoyances in the game: limited mobility in the city, lack of intelligent AI with NPCs in the city, lack of tactical AI with enemies, no in-game text chat system, and no endless game mode.

Visually this game is a masterpiece. Mechanically this game great yet not a masterpiece.

Why can't we just take a game at face value instead of playing it with the expectations built up before release? 3.9? This is a criminal user score for a game that has barely come out. Every online game today has issues when released so don't act surprised when this game does to. Sometimes I honestly believe that they should screen these reviews so people who just come here to vent their frustrations don't have an opportunity to negatively impact a game. I see a lot of people reviewing from their emotions rather than from an unbiased objective viewpoint. I just hope these reviews don't negatively impact a person's decision to buy this game. You should definitely get it if you have the money.

The game is not perfect, it suffers from some problems and the developers are doing everything possible to eliminate the flaws. However, the game looks great, is easy and pleasant to play, gives a lot of impressions and emotions. It has a positive atmosphere in spite of the dark events of the story. A game in which it is easy and pleasant for me to spend time. Recommend.

People also compare this to WarFrame... What they forget is that WarFrame was utter crap in the early days, it’s had years of development to get to where it’s at today. And to this I’ll get reply’s like “so we should just be ok with releases that aren’t complete?” Are you kidding me, a game like this if done right won’t be “complete” for a very long time. Look at games like WoW and Elders Scrolls Online... Now I know this isn’t an MMO, but it’s MMO like in the essence that it has plans for a long support frame. New content, constant updates, all that good stuff that will make the game more and more complete over time. Honestly, the game has it’s issues, but they’ve already shown that they are putting in the effort to fix them, many things fixed in the course of less than a week! To me that shows a developer who cares about making a great game, and shows great promise for the future.

    TLDR:
The game has issues, it’s not perfect, but it’s constantly getting fixes at a very fast pace. And the gameplay is fantastic. I’ve pumped 50+ hours into the game already and have loved every minute of it! Getting better gear and upping the difficulty level has kept some excitement in the moment to moment fights. I look forward to seeing how this game progresses :)

I was initially very apprehensive with another EA title, and considering the last BioWare title didn't turn out as well as we'd hoped, you can understand why.

What I was not prepared for, though, was an incredibly fun experience with polished looking visuals, excellent diversity between classes (javelins) and dialogue animations that were better than anything i've seen in a game to date. The facial expressions on Owen, especially, are flawless and really give him such a life as I never could have imagined.

The game feels very much like a twist of Destiny, Mass Effect, and Warframe, but it does it very well. I will go so far as to say, it's the game that Destiny should have been. The synergy between teammates abilities, and the gun-play, are so well executed, and the flight mechanics feel so smooth.

The Day One patch also turned this game around. Prior to all the fixes that they made, my score was much lower. But after having experienced both pre and post update, I can honestly say that I have a tremendous amount of faith in the continued development and support that this game will receive, and I'm looking forward to limitless hours playing.

I have been playing Anthem from day 1 of early access i have around 30+ hours in the game and i have my main colossus javelin at 450ish.

Visuals- The visuals are fantastic you can see where a lot of the development time went. The world that you can fly around in beautiful, models are crisp and i have seen very few graphical glitches in my 30+hours played. Due to the way the frostbite engine works the load times on early access were longer than they should have been, but the Bioware devs (who have been all over the forums) have dealt with this by shortening all load times by about 30-40% within only a few days.

Content- Content is one of the few things that may be a little bit lacking on launch. I am still enjoying playing as the combat is just too much fun. But i will say you have to look forward with this game as far as i am aware they have at least a year road map of content to be pumping out. Some of which is coming in march and most people seem to ignore this and slating the game after pumping 30 hours into the game already. Also to note that the future content for this game is free and they have stated that there will be no DLC only cosmetic skins.

Gameplay- The game play is main deciding factors in the any game for me and what i focus on. The gameplay is fantastic. If any of you have played Mass effect 3 multiplayer you will love this game. They have taken the base concepts in ME3 Multiplayer and perfected it. The combo system, the wide variety of skills and the good amount of loadout customization (Way more than destiny ever had). I have seem a lot of people dislike the gunplay in the game, and yes if you are used to destiny where gunplay is 95% of the game then sure. In my experience so far the guns are filler for the skills, combos and ultimates gameplay. I seem to only use my guns in the short time my skills are on cooldown or i am low health and need to stand back (Granted i am playing colossus and other classes may differ). There are a few infinite loading bugs and time where you can get stuck in missions which i have come across a few times. Also the sound bug where your sound just disappears until you restart. I am hopeful that Bioware are on top of these and will be fixed soon though.

Story- The story is pretty good, i mean its no Mass effect or dragon age but for a multiplayer shooter its fantastic. The voice acting is top notch, the characters are very memorable and had me looking up the voice actors for a lot of them as i kept recognizing people. There is something really charming about running around Fort Tarsis and seeing how these "Mini Bioware side storys" play out. i would also highly recommend exhausting all dialog options as you go through the story.

Summary- Personally i am still enjoying the game playing mostly on GM1 difficulty and enjoying the gameplay. I can understand if the game as it stands now is not worth the full price of a AAA game but i will say that you can just get Origin premium for £15 and have a full month to play a high tier game.If the game has not impressed you now then maybe look back in a year or so and see what they have added because if you are not happy now i am pretty confident that you will be in later down the line.

I'm personally liking the gameplay loop Anthem has. There is a good base for them to build on in the live service. While there are bugs, I don't think I've encountered anything that isn't fixable. The dev's community engagement is much higher than may games. Sometimes however, the world is so beautiful that you'll stop flying just to admire the view. I've seen it compared to Avatar, and while I can understand the comparison I'd say that the world of Anthem has it's own identity, and it's a helluva pretty one.
Actual gameplay? Enjoyable at this stage, will it get old too fast? Depends on what Bioware do with it really. If it receives updates then it has the potential to be great.
Is it all good? No. The loading scenes are still too numerous and too long. There are still bugs, although personally I've experienced only one, and audio bug that caused sound to drop in game, it was resolved by a restart, but not ideal.

Satisfaction comes from the ironman style shooter experience and the co-op nature of the game. Wildlands was an okay game as game, however it’s the co-op nature of the game that made the experience and the same goes for anthem. The bit and piece of the story of the world is released to the player through dialogue with characters in the hub world. I have just over 10 hours of play time and it gives me the experience and play game I was expecting. As well it’s fun to play.
I haven’t noticed any bugs and the loading screen haven’t been an issue, however I have M.2 drive. And of course there are things that could have been better with the game but the game isn't as bad as the review suggest.

What is going on with the reviews of the game? If you really think there is an issue with the game at least start at 4. A score of 0-3 would mean that the game would be unplayable. A lot of the reviews are based on the reviewer’s opinion of EA as a company or their opinion of what the game should have been (another Mass Effect). The game is not a RPG or single play story driven game. The game is a squad-based shooter about the world of anthem told through missions and quick audio.

Then as the story progressed I found myself caring about the characters more and more specifically Faye and Haluk. Overall I think its a great story has its highs and lows as any story does but overall its pretty great. Classic bad guy wants to gain ultimate power and we have to stop him kind of thing least for now since this is going to be an ever growing story. You will need to keep in mind that this is not a single player RPG while playing this though so dont expect your actions to have an impact on this since its a shared world between all players. Though your side conversations with npcs in Fort Tarsis will have different outcomes from other players but im not sure if you will see it affect the story. There are loading screens but bioware has mentioned multiple times that they are working on shortening them. Dont listen to the people complaining about the tombs mission as bioware made it so that everything required for the mission is tracked from level 3 and onward. They have listened to our feedback from the early access and have implemented a fair bit of it that they could in a short time. Some of the other things we have requested and reported as an issue will take a longer time to fix. Taking all of this into consideration I think the game is worth the money for the enjoyment I have gotten out of it. Ive put around 70 hours between the early access and the demo and the game is still very enjoyable. Expand

Ok, this game has a lot of bugs and other tech problems, but it`s a new world, just a beginning of a new story and it will have their funs. I saw Destiny 1 at launch - it was much more worst, until TTK it was unplayable at all. D2 launch was terrible, reuse of old story and nothing new except grind. Warframe on launch and 1-2 years later was empty and very simple...

The game runs great on my i7 7700HQ and 1070, the long loading screens do no take more than 15seconds on an ssd and the game is fun as hell. Its a looter shooter, if you expect a single player, story focused game, this is not the game for you.

Want to enjoy the game? First, understand what it is you are buying into. Second, get a squad and play with some peeps you enjoy playing with. This is a team game, if you are just trying to blast through solo you will have a very choppy experience and things will be far less entertaining. Not to say this game isn't fun solo, as I still play solo and have a blast, but the team dynamic brings this game to where it needs to be. We are all 60+ hours deep and showing no signs of slowing. everyone likes to feel powerful and anthem does that well. 2nd The story is good so far and very understandable. The cinematics are awesome and engaging. 3rd I would like to see more cosmetic items but the items they do have are legit. The forge is really well done and I spend lots of time there. 4th I'm not sure why there is so much hate. Obviously I am not playing as much as the fully dedicated but I've already put about 20 hours in and have thourghly enjoyed the time. I get if you simply don't like the game but to say there is a lack of content is just cray. If you blow through all of the missions and now you have nothing to do.....well. In terms of the game itself, the core mechanics of game play are solid and are a lot of fun, the 4 suits do all feel different with each having their own play style and feel and the free play option is a lot of fun to explore and find new and interesting things on the map.
Playing with friends is good and most probably use Discord etc to communicate and so friends who can communicate well can easily co-ordinate themselves to set up combo's and triggers. The ability to customize your suits are a lot of fun and quite detailed with several layers of options.
Now since this game is new there are a lot of missions that have the same events and it is possible to hit end game fairly easily but with free DLC and updates advised so that it doesn't splinter the player base and with the method Bioware have stated they have developed the mission types into a pool system so they can just drop new styles into the game without any downtime or patching i'm pretty confident in this games ability to expand and grow faster and more successfully that either of the Destiny games did.
For anyone reading this who remembers the old game Firefall, this is actually quite a similar feel of game and is one of the reasons i'm enjoying it more than a lot of other games I have played recently.

Rather than echo the positive reviews here, I will refute the nay-sayers. Made an account on Metacritic just for this purpose. It seems like gamers drift towards negativity for its own sake sake these days, which is sad for games that DON'T DESERVE THE HATE - like Anthem

Disclaimer: I am a console gamer. I suspect much criticism for Anthem is unhappy PC people. If PC players (our self-proclaimed 'Lords') are gonna **** about how console-intended games (like Anthem) don't work perfectly on their $5000 space laser-powered master-race machines, then I will **** about their hygiene, and about how their PC-specific games don't run like water on my console. Now that I've alienated a section of my audience, lets begin ;)

    1. "Every mission feels the same": The immense variety in the world around you and the range of ability, weapon and class combinations makes old fights/ missions re-playable again and again. Color outside the lines. Think differently and take some damn initiative. Stop waiting for someone to hold your hand.

    2. "Weapon play 0/10": Even the harshest critics admit Anthem's combat system is amazing. Ya, if you choose a high-damage sniper rifle with smaller magazine, you'll be re-loading a lot. So, craft/ find/win an armor upgrade that increases clip size. Or consider using a higher magazine gun

    3. "Graphics are terrible": Are you insane? Again, even haters agree it's gorgeous... PC vs console rivalry does not make for a game review

    4. "Loading screens everywhere": There are loading screens in 3 places. a) Entering a dungeon b) Returning to base c) Changing armor loadout/ appearance. You may need to wait for your party to load if playing co-op. None of these things should be controversial

    5. "Game cannot be played solo": This is B**S*** Some of the most fun I've had is flying around by myself like at the beginning of the game, landing on an old temple and switching to my sniper rifle to get a good view of an enemy base to count troop numbers, high-value targets, and to plan. Freeplay mode allows you to run solo. And it's epic. I was itching to get back into single-player mode the soonest I could, and it was glorious

    6. "Story/ writing issues": This criticism has some merit. The 'show-don't-tell' rule applies to narratives in video games like anywhere, which it seems the writer forgot (in some places). It IS done properly in some areas, but a new lead writer is needed. Luckily, Drew is no longer working on Anthem (Goodbye Drew!). The world that was built around the scene A-to-B plot is deep, lore-filled and has so many opportunities for further narrative exploration. Can't wait to see what a good writer will do with it (EA, if you're reading this and hiring writers, hmu babe)

    7. "Lacks environmental diversity": Lush jungles, underwater worlds, ancient stone ruins, abandoned alien facilities, underground caves, alien bases/ camps, and more. Did you even play the whole game or speed run it in 2 hours to justify a bad review and to meet an article deadline? Jesus

    8. "Anthem = Destiny-lite": Dear reader, I encourage you to Google 'Anthem v.s. Destiny big differences'. Don't be sheep

    9. "Server drops": All online games have disconnects. Name an online game that had 100% perfect connection 100% of the time. I've been playing since official launch on Feb. 22 and dropped only 3 times. That's better than Halo 3 matchmaking. I defy you to show me an game without drops

    10. "Loot system": I view the loot in Anthem as a 'nice-to-have-but-not-necessary'. The point of the game is not to make players chase loot forever. Which is a good thing. Gear for the sake of gear is stupid and boring. Give me freedom. Give me flight, good combat, intrigue and challenge me. Give me more Anthem

    11. "No respawn": I like this feature, personally. Firstly, THERE IS RESPAWN in Freeplay solo-player mode. In co-op missions, your teammates must save you, and if all are incapacitated, you all respawn together. I was never down for longer than a minute, because all members of a team are needed to beat enemies etc. I like saving people who fall because I have a hero-complex which my psychologist says is unhealthy

    12. "Buggy": I have seen no bugs. None. Zero. Consider playing Anthem on console, like it was intended

    13. "Lootboxes/ in-game transactions": There are no lootboxes in Anthem. None. This is a lie. The only in-game purchases are for optional skins/ armor that don't affect gameplay. The criticism of Anthem has reached new and insidious proportions with this complaint (appropriately saved for #13 on this list)

As I near the character limit that Metacritic has given me for this wall-of-text, I'd like to reflect on the state of the gamer/review community in general. It really seems like nothing is enough anymore. Even without lootboxes, people cry lootboxes - or something else - anything else to get views. Outrage sells

I can control the flight and swim now and the loading and connection is actually way better than the demo days.

The gameplay loop is not for everyone much in the same way Diablo, Destiny, Warframe, Division, etc. has gameplay that isn’t for everyone. I personally enjoy the combat mechanics and don’t find it boring despite being repetitive. The story isn’t Oscar worthy, but the list of games that have that kind of story are very few and far between anyway. The story is decent, but I will say that I’m really liking the world that this game takes place in. It’s very interesting to me. In the end, before you give this game a straight 0 because it’s EA and some Youtuber said it’s bad, give it a shot and be objective. I thought I’d hate this game. I ended up loving it. The storyline is a little short but still took me over 10 hours to complete (Without skipping scenes or interactable conversations) With many more relatable side quests to do, and personally, I feel the gameplay is fun, including some I enjoy the game with who were expecting the worst, and with a rather negative disposition to EA. Regardless as to what people say, the cash shop is very out the way and isn't even required. Unless you purposly go to it, there's no way to interact with it. But the game IS far from perfect.
There are bugs, some infinite loading screens (Although I can name a few games that have longer and more numerous load screens) audo drop outs that require the game to be restarted, core quest objectives going missing or not being able to be interacted with and a handful of others. But the core of the game is solid, with just a few marks on the experience as noted above.
The YouTube reviews seem to be ENTIRELY one sided as if they're trying to burn EA simply for releasing a game that they wanted. An enjoyable game, with no lootboxes, rich lore, free dlc, no pay to win mechanics. I'd definitely give it a go instead of shunning it, take it with an open mind and you could be hooked it.

The monetization model isn't so bad either. It's designed more like a shortcut than anything, it's not invasive and it's not unfair.

Overall a solid game with some of the best gameplay i've ever tried. I highly recommend it for anyone who love the sci-fi genre and/or action games in general.

Very fun game. Flying is pretty amazing and very responsive. Story is engaging, and the customization has a lot of depth too it. Are the glitches sure, but if you have played Destiny 1, this game is way ahead of that. The loading screens that people are complaining about are no longer than loading into different parts for Destiny. A solid variety of enemies. The game looks beautiful!

I understand that EA is an awful company. Anthem on the other hand is a gorgeous game. I do not agree with all the negative reviews. This game is great! I really enjoy playing this game. Don’t ruin this for all of us!

Game has so much, potential they just didn't include enough content at launch, but you just need to wait till next month for the first major content drop. The movement is superb, story is a bit basic by Bioware standards and combat is clean and fluid.

The story does seem to be info dumpy at places and other places too much show and no info. Though i actually think there could be a lot of depth still to be revealed which i haven't accessed yet only having about 20 hours of time on it so far.

Overall I am impressed and am really enjoying it. Will i be going back to Destiny or Diablo soon...probably not for a while. It all depends on the end game.

I created this account specifically to give this game justice it deserves and I have over 100 hours in the game already. If you are a gamer who is foolish enough, to have high expectations for a recently released game, then I'm really not surprised your opinion of the game may be somewhere in the red area. I knew it will have issues at release, it's common occurence these days. I actually expected it to have many issues after what I saw in ME:Andromeda. That's exactly what allowed me to see and appreciate the good things about it. I won't get into details about the flaws, there are many other gamers talking about them. I will instead tell you why did I fell in love with this game.

Freeplay Map - When I started exploring the map, I didn't noticed it at first. I needed time for it to grow on me, but I finally did noticed. The amount of detailing in every area of the map is truly astonishing. Whoever created this map put all of their heart into it. You have to be blind to not appreciate the amount of detail that went into it. What is additionally amazing is that there are truly beautiful views of places you can actually visit. That's something rarely seen in other games. The beauty of the map is so great, that each time I go on exploration, I feel true child's joy. There are games that have to give you a question mark on the map, to make you go there and when you do get there, you don't find much to see, because level design is just so ugly. Some developers give loot crates in such locations to entice players to explore these ugly areas, but sometimes even loot crates aren't enough, because such games may not be worth seeing at all. Anthem doesn't need that, because the map is so beautiful, it is worth exploring it on it's own, even without any reward (there are some rewards to be found nonetheless) - sightseeing is it's own reward! The map in Anthem is a true piece of art and I'm not surprised that gamers, who didn't spent enough time with this game, failed to notice that.

Overall Gameplay - Even with all it's issues, I kept coming back to Anthem. Something about the gameplay was fun enough to keep me returning to it. I played open demo and was in early access (week before world release) and I noticed some patching. Some of it was server side, so it was almost unnoticable. I noticed gameplay and especially gunplay tuning, which really made it work much better and is now much more pleasurable. Controls in the demo for mouse and keyboard needed tuning and they received it. It's waaay better now and makes the game much more fun to play. There where also additional settings implemented in day one patch, which made it even better.
Another thing is flying. Flying in Anthem frequently reminds me of wingsuit flying in real life. It really feels that way, with the only difference being the fact, that you have a jet pack, so you're not constricted to gliding. Developers promised a highly vertical map for that and trust me, they delivered. Flying alone is great fun in Anthem and this game is so much more than just that.
As of now we have 4 javelins (pilotable suits) in the game and each one is unique. They have a variety of skills to choose from and some special abillities like for example triple dodge on Interceptor, or extended levitation on Storm. I find each one of them highly interesting to play on it's own, but I do have to mention, that each time I'm playing Colossus, I feel like I'm literally taken out of Alien movie. The sounds of its autocannons, their graphical effects and overall feel of this weapon type (which is exclusive for Colossus). The flamethrower skill graphical effect and its sound. The overall heavy mech feel and sounds of Colossus. All of this and more just has to make this javelin an orgasmic experience for every Alien fan out there. It does for me!

Virtual Currency and Customization - Virtual currency allows to buy cosmetics for your javelins. Different skins for various parts of your javelin and various other things. Microtransactions are normal for games like Anthem, but what is a bit surprising about Anthem, is that it's not at all hard to earn this virtual currency by simply playing the game. It's actually quite easy and pleasurable enough to do it. The customization system is also quite extensive and allows much freedom. In addition to that you have access to entire color palette for free, which is not the case in most games like Anthem.

Great Coop with Friends - So far I don't recommend playing with random people, at least most of the time (especially when doing main story and side quests), due to various issues like bugs and exploiters who love to brake missions. On the other hand if you have someone to play with, Anthem is a great coop experience already and I highly recommend to play it.

Sadly this review reached its limit of characters. :)

The bad- Bugs(which a lot have been delt with already. Loading screens, though on my computer they are pretty quick and I don't even have that good of computer.

I can pretty much sum my review up in two words. Loving It.

It does have its flaws, biggest issues I've seen so far were occasional freezes and audio failures (though these later turned out to be an issue with my NVIDIA drivers than the game itself), but the game itself seems solid enough for a game that's been out less than a fortnight.

The characters and storyline represent BioWare's typical skill at worldbuilding and character building, and though I usually prefer a little more customisation in my characters, I can understand that given the way the game is designed doesn't lend itself to seeing your character's face very much it would have been rather irrelevant to add a fully in-depth creator, since the preset options you get are wide-ranging enough to fill all tastes and don't look like they walked out of the Uncanny Valley (I'm looking at you, Andromeda!)

The combat and flight system is genuinely my favourite part of the game, it's so responsive and streamlined that I can go from fighting to flying and back to fighting with almost no interruption between them.

The world itself (in terms of appearance, not setting) is simply stunning, there's no other way to put it. I could just spend all day exploring it and find a million small things to investigate or a thousand beautiful vistas to survey, and I'd still only have scratched the surface.

Anthem is a game in its infancy. There'll be problems, what game launches without them these days, but Anthem has the promise to be able to do what the likes of Destiny has consistently failed to do; continue and thrive.

It is only a shame that some would drag it down just based on their hatred for EA or what they perceive to be BioWare's fall from grace, but I think Anthem could be the step back from the brink that BioWare needs to re-establish themselves, and my hopes for the future of their other flagship series have been restored.

I’ve been playing it for 30+ hours and the game is absolutely amazing. Lore, graphics, gameplay — everything’s top notch. Really surprised by mass hysteria about how much this game suck because of loading times (shorter then in Destiny) and a few bugs. If you’re into BioWare games — it’s your choice.

After a while, suspicion sets in: perhaps EA doesn’t believe in BioWare anymore, and had them release not only unpolished, but basically unfinished product to cut losses and avoid another total rework. [Issue#237, p.44]

If you want to see Anthem’s lush jungle and glistening Javelins, do it right away — this game is losing audience fast, and there’s almost nothing to do after the campaign ends. Or check it out on YouTube to save yourself some nerves and money.

It's obvious that Anthem didn't have enough development time, but had some great potential. It's a real shame, that everything turned out this way. Even now, the game can bring out positive emotions. Hasty climbers have sudden falls. No matter how ironic this proverb may seem, it's incredibly relevant for Anthem.
