Under Par Golf Architect is less than the sum of its parts. Each element of the game feels a little undercooked. Together it just about holds up, but the cracks aren't hard to find. However, the game’s got a pleasant presentation. It’s just a little bit silly, and that works if you can put up with spending a bit of time in the rough.

Broken Arms' game delivers exactly what it promises—designing golf courses and turning them into a profitable business—but a single, extended Sandbox session is sufficient to see everything the title has to offer.

While I applaud the game’s use of the Switch 2’s mouse control support, there’s an awkwardness and sometimes frustrating lack of focus on enjoyable playability here.

Under Par: Golf Architect captures the charm of Sid Meier’s SimGolf with satisfying course design, but inconsistent simulation systems and technical issues hold it back. It’s a promising experience that gets a lot right, just not consistently enough yet.

Under Par: Golf Architect is charming and very welcoming, and that first golf course you create will be a truly fun process. After that, though, you’ll realise that Under Par has nothing else to offer and is such a disappointing missed opportunity. It’s all the more strange that the developers would do this because the same team previously created Hundred Days, a vineyard business simulation, and that one was genuinely interesting and engaging, and had proper tycoon simulation challenges built into it.
