The Storm came without warning and wiped out 98 percent of the world's population in a flash. Poof. Adios. Sayonara. Then came the monsters, wave after wave, night after night. Destroying everything in their path.

But it's not all doom and gloom. In an abandoned missile silo, weve found one of our first weapons against the Storm you. We're looking for a few good commanders like you to help make a difference, push back the storm and protect those among us who are unable to protect themselves.

Explore the world. Rescue survivors. Make hundreds of guns, swords, and things that go boom. Make impregnable forts. Tastefully decorate with sniper perches, poison gas traps, and jump pads. Take back the world. You know, the usual. And be sure to invite your friends. Welcome to Fortnite.

Fortnite is better on Switch 2 than it’s ever been on a handheld device, and a night and day improvement over the original Switch version. It’s more than serviceable in both docked and handheld modes, and it’s almost certainly going to be my main way to play going forward.

Fortnite no longer feels like a second-rate experience on a Nintendo console. It shines bright on the Nintendo Switch 2, offering endless entertainment on the go, without compromising on fidelity or framerates. The beating heart of Fortnite remains the incredibly refined and genre-defining battle royale experience, in the different forms it now comes, but the entire platform is rivalled perhaps only by Roblox in the breadth of experiences it has on offer. With an endless supply of content, even if it's not all the same quality, it's no surprise to me that the game has enjoyed the long-term success it has, and keeps attracting new fans.

Fortnite on Switch 2 fixes all glaring — and not so glaring — issues with the Switch 1 version of the game. This is a huge package of activities; from battle royale to survival game, racing, creative modes, music festivals, and more besides. It's a lot, and it now runs at 60fps with crisp, clean resolutions all round. Mouse mode controls are a revelation, loading times are hugely improved, graphics look very nice indeed, thanks, and, well, I reckon this is now the best way to play this one, regardless of a slight downgrading in visuals.

Fortnite is the biggest battle royale for a reason. Epic Games has created an ecosystem that you can get dozens of hours of play from without even touching the main Battle Royale mode. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a massive step up from the original Switch, thanks to its enhanced performance, and I can’t think of a better way to play the game on a handheld.
