EA's Switch 2 football debut is a night-and-day difference from its half-hearted Switch one, setting a great precedent for the future of the series. EA Sports FC 26 delivers a fully-featured version of the game, and while it only runs at 30fps and has a gated-off Ultimate Team mode which doesn't tap into the series' larger crossplay community, it still plays a fantastic game of football and offers more game modes than you'll ever know what to do with.

Thanks to its ambitious game modes and skilled execution, EA Sports FC 26 delivers an experience on the Nintendo Switch 2 that stand next to the other versions of the game, something that's highlighted by the addition of crossplay. On top of the many game modes and detailed possibilities, the audiovisual component is truly impressive, and it all comes together to create a memorable football experience for both die-hard fans and newcomers alike.

EA Sports FC 26 on Switch 2 is a fantastic soccer simulator that finally offers Nintendo users all the bells and whistles other consoles are getting, with the small exception of 60 FPS gameplay. New additions to career mode and distinct styles of play make the core game the best it's been in years, but if you're purely in it for Ultimate Team, get ready to wrestle with microtransactions for another year.

A step in the right direction, EA FC 26 on Nintendo Switch 2 still boasts some annoying grievances, but it’s still worth the purchase if you value on-the-go gaming.

If you are predominantly a handheld gamer, this is one of, if not the best, football games you can play on the go in a very, very long time. It is a very good first attempt on Switch 2. Hopefully, when EA Sports FC 27 rolls around, they will have fixed the issues present here – the big one making the game run at 60 frames per second. If you have enjoyed any FIFA / EA Sports FC game in the last decade, you’ll find plenty to enjoy here.
