Sadly, really awful. Everything from the dialogue to the plot felt so contrived. It tried to recapture the glory of the first season but lacked the energy and quirky authenticity. Main character turned into an unlikable shrew. Last 10 minutes is some of the worst, predictable TV I have ever seen. Skip it. Expand

Worst thing to happen to this franchise was a Season 4. That’s coming from a 15 year fan and Kickstarter contributed. What was done to this [veronica mars] character is unforgivable and not worth the 8 hours. The complete disregard of a fan base, that essentially funded and pushed for this reboot, by the show runner Rob Thomas, was offensive and miscalculated. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Season 4 was a huge disappointment. I don't recognize this Veronica; I have no idea how she got here after the movie and the books. Maybe don't fundamentally change your 'protagonist' after 15 years? (Is she even supposed to be the protagonist still? I related to Logan much more than to her this season.) Mocking therapy is not cool. Using trauma to 'make your character more interesting' is not cool. Fridging characters for shock value is not cool. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Poor season, the mystery isn't good, very sloppy and a cruel lack of time for other important original characters. Veronica has regressed and is a bad friend and girlfriend, her soft core, she used to be a marshmallow, barely shown all through the season. The last 10 minutes are awful. The death of one of the most beloved characters of the show, who has the best story arc is extremely badly handled, it's soapy and cheesy. Such a disservice to an amazing character and just to traumatize even more the heroine. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. i don't know about ya'll but i really didn't NEED to see a 30 year old woman with no devolvement acting like the tortured 17 year old still high off her best friends death. spoiler: logan's death adds nothing to development/the story, whether it's fake or not. it's a shock value move with no substance done in a way that disrespects the very point of television. it's not noir, nor "dark & twisty" it's bad writing, as the ENTIRE season is. some of the best written material ( which isn't even that great ) is amplified by jason dohring to make it something, & his dedication to a character of 15 years that actually HAS developed past his trauma & pain. so i'm not interested in knowing what the writers THINK i need. you didn't NEED to do these things for another season. it NEEDED substance & you failed as a writing/producing team bc you're too far dedicated to this idea of FAKE feminism without understanding the meaning of the word. a woman can be powerful & independent with a partner, she can be witty & smart but have someone willing to share her life. it's EMPOWERING to see a woman & a man breaking the mold of soapy drama to find healthy bonds in tv, rob thomas fails once again in understanding this bc he's too concerned with not servicing anyone but himself & kristen's hard to root for & often childish role. the framework of veronica mars had potential but it failed to deliver bc of the writers trying to hard to prove that this wasn't a service to the fans ( despite only being revived bc of their funds once already ). there was no glamour or mystery, simply a group of people trying to be edgy & shocking but instead producing numerous failed classic tropes. all that was succeeded was alienating a fanbase that you were fine using to promote your show, fund your revivals, & manipulate into supporting **** writing in the sake of seeing their favorites again only to erase them for shock. also humiliating any survivors of trauma watching the show by shaming them for getting help for a poorly delivered one liner. my future kids don't need vmars in their life, & neither do i. she's not a role model, she's a mess. & so is this revival. Season 4 was a shadow of its former self. The show lost its soul and forgot that while it may be called Veronica Mars, the secondary characters were just as important to the show. So "brave and stunning" of all characters to stand up against those racists and misogynists. Garbage season with garbage writing, a garbage ending, and garbage commentary on contemporary society. Apparently death doesn't faze you as long as the guy was a misogynist. Watched the whole thing, but I am just going to pretend that this season doesn't exist.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Completely devastated by the unnecessary major character death they throw in at the end for nothing but shock value. I’ve loved this show since the beginning in 2004, donated to the Kickstarter to help this show relevant again, and feel completely alienated by the shows writers. This is the end for me. So disappointed.

Women can be badass and independent without being heartbroken and going through trauma. Shame on the writers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Greatest disappointment from a television show I once loved...ever. Not only was the big twist ill-conceived, poorly plotted, and a betrayal of an entire fanbase, but the season itself landed flat, with a Veronica who was cruel to those she loved and many beloved characters sidelined. Veronica’s treatment of Weevil was plainly racist. Leo was just unnecessary (and I have no idea how he could make FBI with his checkered law enforcement past). What didn’t defy logic just infuriated or saddened. Actors did their best; Rico Colantoni and Jason Dohring especially deserve praise. But a depressing and unnecessary affair all around. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mystery was boring and predictable. The main character was cruel to her family and friends. Treating Weevil an old friend with no understanding. Making fun of her boyfriends attempts to get therapy and face his demands. Most of the supporting characters had barely anytime on screen. Also lastly the killing of Logan at the end was just cruel. A women doesn't have to be damaged to be the underdog. Just because they got married didn't mean they were going to become boring. They were not perfect. Honestly, I wish I would have just watched the first 3 season and movie because of this season I cant watch my favorite show. Im out. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This season seemed like it was written by people who never watched previous seasons (or the movie) and didn't know Veronica at all. She wasn't even a shell of herself - she was someone else - and she's actually so terrible that you end up rooting against her and hoping the other people in her life can somehow escape her. And there was no explanation given for it. The change might have been acceptable if it had been remotely explained, but it wasn't.

Of course, once the final episode finished rolling, the reasons became clear. The writers were told to kill Logan and then just work backward from there. To quote someone else who put it incredibly well: Killing Logan with this level of extreme tragedy... makes Veronica’s interior life uninhabitable. From now on being inside her head will either feel too painful to be fun or too painless to be true. Either way, it’ll break my heart.

The whole season was filled with lazy writing, two dimensional characters, and countless idiotic "creative decisions" including making Logan's death the result of Veronica, Keith, and the entire sheriff's department (and FBI) failing to do their jobs. When everyone in the audience knew that damn backpack was a bomb. The end result is something wholly unwatchable, because it is utterly devoid of anything that made the show worth watching in the past.

The character of Veronica was missing her marshmallow center this season. She had no time for her best friend, barely paid attention to her father's faltering health, mocked her long-term boyfriend for going to therapy, and ultimately became the villain in her own story. Her character arc was confusing given where she was after the Veronica Mars movie and subsequent books, and the lack of continuity was jarring. I may have accepted the regression of her personality if it had been explained on screen, but it wasn't.

As for the mystery, it was very weak, and the pacing was slow. It was not enough to fill eight hours of story. There were some logic fails and plot holes, which aren't necessarily noticeable on first viewing because the writers tried to throw a lot of things into the mix to confuse and distract, but with a little thought you can see the glaring errors. Additionally, Veronica Mars is supposed to be a brilliant detective, but she hardly does any investigative work, and she is literally dumbed-down by the writers in order to make the final "twist" happen.

As for that final twist, it is disappointing that it was merely tacked on for shock value. It wasn't essential to the plot of the story and it reduced what was already a lackluster season into something unwatchable.

The adult intelligence is still there, and Bell and Colantoni are still wonderful together, consistently nailing the old-Hollywood, tough-and-tender style the show demands and demonstrating seemingly effortless comic grace. But Thomas hasn’t found a really satisfactory replacement for the show’s loss of teen spirit; and the grown-up romantic travails of Veronica and Logan, a significant subplot in the new season, aren’t as compelling as their tempestuous high school amours. ... [Still,] “Veronica Mars” finds ways to charm you.
