As a fan of the books and video games, I found the first season to be fairly well put together. I enjoyed the performances of all the actors (especially Henry and Anya) and even though the plot varies a little from the books, the changes makeAs a fan of the books and video games, I found the first season to be fairly well put together. Really good show actually. If you know the books or the games, you'll feel right in home ( the books, mostly ). But as a fan of the Game ,but not so much the books I really didnt think Netflix's : "The Witcher" would appeal to me at all. Then you Meet Henry Cavil as Geralt and he is perect in the role, then Anya Chalotra as Yennifer who just nails the Sorceress and Finally Joey Batey as Dandelion and the show simply revolves perfectly around them.. While there is definently some harder to watch performances these 3 along with Renly in the begining and it easy to overlook the flaws.
Another thing they have done well in implement the world and its law in a way that isnt overwhelming. It has been dumbed down some what but you cant blame the shows creators for that, given the low intelligence of critics these days.
Its an amazing ride so far, full of cool and funny moments, and Season one has definitely set the ground work for a tale spaning years.… Expand

Not only the way the story is presented to the viewer is awful and way too confusing but also decisions she made in regard to how characters should look are arbitrary and irrational. Act 1:Prologue: Lauren Schmidt couldn't handle Witcher.
Not only the way the story is presented to the viewer is awful and way too confusing but also decisions she made in regard to how characters should look are arbitrary and irrational. Act 1: Utter failure.
Triss Merigold has golden chestnut chairs and big blue eyes and is one of the most striking and vivid characters in the Witcher lore. Everyone understands it just not damn Netflix which completely fails to choose decent lookalike for this role.
On another hand, Yennefer face has a triangle shape and pale skin while Netflix went "screw it" and choose actress with a square jaw and brown skin tone.

Act 2: Seriously! What are you doing?!
Most armies in the show have proper armours but for some reason, Nilfgaardians look like clowns wrapped in black paper frills. How can this show get so many minor things right but completely fail at so many major and obvious things?

Act 3: Hope
Show gets saved by Henry Cavill, Freya Allan and Emma Appleton.
While some scenes are ruined by uneven or just plain bad CGI and utterly mismatched actors Cavill, Frey and Emma still deliver great performance.

Epilogue: 3 characters saved the day.
If not for Henry, Freya and Emma this show would sink the bottom of the ocean faster than Titanic after hitting the iceberg.… Expand

The show may be not perfect in every detail (e.g. Nilfgaard armor, or actress that plays Triss Merrygold), but it is definitely a wonderful recreation of Anrzej Sapkowski's books. Henry Cavill does not play Gwralt - he is Geralt! I can't imagine now anyone, who would be a better actor for that role. Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan make great Yennefer and Ciri as well! Before The Witcher came out, I was afraid that Joey Batey would be a bad Jaskier, but surprisingly he is my second favorite! TL/DR: Show has it's flaws, but it is a must-watch!… Expand

The story itself is nothing special, but somehow still managed to get me invested from the start. I don’t really know what part of the story gripped my attention, I just know for a fact that I couldn’t stop thinking and wondering of what was going to happen next.

The biggest surprise for me is how solid the acting is, especially Henry Cavill as Geralt, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer and Joey Batey as Jaskier. If only the writers would have done an equally good job, unfortunately they didn’t which made some dialogues feel very amateurish. Though most dialogue was actually good, but the ones that were bad stuck out like a sore thumb and cheapened the experience in more ways than bad dialogue usually does for me. And that’s a good summation of the show overall. Most things are good, but the bad somehow becomes very memorable and noticeable which makes the show feel very cheap and amateurish in certain instances.

There are some things that obviously needs to be fixed in the next season, but nothing so big that it can’t be done. I have high hopes that the ones in charge manage to solve the problems. If they do that and the story manages to pick up a little then I am sure that I’m going to love it, because It has already grabbed my attention, but I’m not fully hooked yet.… Expand

4. And the last is what I think is completely subjective, but lacks a little dirt. The period of the Middle Ages is nonsense, I judge so because it is my favorite genre of something.
And so I absolutely liked the series. I judge only by a series of games, the book, so far, have not read, but plan.… Expand

The geography is distinct from Eastern Europe which means it isn’t Europe.

Besides, why do people assume there are no black elves? Africa is where humans first evolved. Having black people in the setting isn’t unrealistic or surprising.

While I do wish they casted Triss as well as they did Yen, I’m not going to bring politics into a story. In the end, it’s a great show that only suffers from its ambition getting ahead of its limited resources. I recommend it to anyone that doesn’t get have seizures over skin pigment.… Expand

Nonetheless, this adaptation of the Witcher is easily one of the best originals on Netflix. All the work put into this masterpiece of a first season successfully captures both the novel and game series, the balance is struck perfectly. The casting is terrific, however there are a few roles which could have been changed, such as the actress who portrays Triss Merrigold (I’m a hardcore Witch video game fan so this choice doesn’t sit will with me). However the actress’s work does not fall short of excellent, so the experience was not impacted for me. This first season has not only rekindled my love for the Witcher series, but it also has secured Netflix’s subscription in my bank account. This show could have so easily been tarnished through executive agendas and bad writing, but this sets the bar for how well done future adaptations, and shows in general, should be done. I am so thankful for this wonderful and exciting new journey that Geralt will embark on, and I can’t wait for season two.… Expand

Its ok we know how it works. The Mandolorian was just plain boring at times no character development and just not as good but ok VENT is over....I really enjoyed this show. Didnt think it would be good but it surprised me. Was it the best show no but it definitely can be rewatched and Im definitely looking forward to season 2. I liked how they tried to do something different by telling the story through different timelines was it the best or what we are use too?? No not at all but by the end I liked how they at least tried and smoothed it out by the last episode. Not a fan of cliffhanger seasons but will give you guys a pass again for the effort. It took some brass to try and make this show being mostly connected to a video game with the books not bringing in the majority of the popularity but you pulled it off. CONGRATS!!… Expand

Despite this, I do not feel like giving a negative vote to the series and indeed I hope in the next season.

I will admit to dreading the release of this series, having been a bit of a fan of the books and games.
The 1st episode felt a bit, 'B' Movie to me, but once it moved onto episode 2 and onward the series seems to have found it's footing andI will admit to dreading the release of this series, having been a bit of a fan of the books and games.

Most of the filming seems to be done in very limited locations, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of flow from one location to another, as if the episodes are just a series of set pieces.
That said, it does a decent job on the whole of conveying the story it's trying to tell.… Expand

The mythology focuses (as it should) on the monsters from Eastern European mythology, not the race of people from there. It's a fantasy show; it doesn't even take place in Eastern Europe or in our universe for that matter. The race of the Witcher's actors should not influence review scores.

2. I think that this show is going to be very confusing for newcomers to the Witcher universe. Mousesack is basically there to inform the audience (quite often) about the Law of Surprise and destiny. I've read the books and played the games, so I know what is going on. I do think that the show's explanation of many aspects of the universe was rushed. Hopefully they build on the foundation in season 2 and allow a larger audience to buy into this show, because I think its really strong and has potential to get even better.

3. Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra, thank you. Geralt and Yen (sorry, Ciri, I know you're invaluable as well) are the center of this story, and you two nailed their individual personalities and their chemistry together. The flashbacks to the books and games that I had while watching this show were frequent because of your portrayal.

4. Rapid fire: action was fun, dialogue a mixed bag (main characters had better dialogue than supporting roles), and sets & costumes were up to par with other shows and movies of 2019. It was a fun ride to watch season one of this show, and I hope people give it a chance to grow into the powerhouse I think it can be. It's not quite there yet, but the future is bright for this show!… Expand

И естественно адаптация под Американского зрителя в первую очередь из-за большего объема рынка. Absolute blast, even if pacing was not perfect with black elves (not Drows) and Asians in European high dark fantasy setting were hurting my eyes, ignoring all that BS this series will last very long, toss a coin to your Witcher!

Having read the books and played the games, The Witcher on Netflix was a pleasant surprise. I didn’t hold much hope for Cavill’s take on Geralt but I am happy to be proven wrong. I didn’t hold much hope for Cavill’s take on Geralt but I am happy to be proven wrong. He makes the character his own while channeling the vocal and physical characteristics that made the CD Projekt Red’s version so compelling a protagonist and his performance is a pleasure to watch.

One of the critic reviews makes a comparison with game of thrones, which is a strange place to go but just as basic as you might expect from main stream commentators who see the world through the same old tired stereotypes.

Another comment was that the scripts goes from old language to modern speak, confusing the style of the tale. This is only true for one character , a bard, and this is clearly part of his character, something that made sense to me given his role as both a narrator and comic relief. Liking this will be subjective, I thought it was ace.

A couple of slow lulls in the show stopped this from being a 10, but then again anything is rarely perfect to anyone.

Go into this world without expectations, follow the story the characters tell you and allow the pieces to fall into place, and hopefully you will be rewarded and left eagerly awaiting season two as I am. Enjoy the world of The Witcher!… Expand

Не смотря на куча сжв, негров дриад, зериканок, индуса Мышевура и Вельгифорца, несостыковки с книгами(хотя это вряд ли минус), и знаменитой брони нильфов, сериал все равно отрабатывает свои бесплатные 30 дней новым подписчикам нетфликса Каппа, а возможно и больше. Если без рофлов, то строго рекомендую к просмотру тем, кто знаком с вселенной ведьмака, а тем кто не одупляет че происходит, сериал может не зайти, так как многие моменты не объясняются. А тамошняя расчлиненка вообще ааа уровня, я давно такого не видел, если вообще видел. Короче рекомендую. Рофлово видеть нули на метакритик с комментами про плоский медальон и один меч у Геральта, классиик в общем. При том что юсерскор выше, чем критик скор, походу чемоданы не занесли.… Expand

Music is something obscene. I heard a lot of discontent about female nudity. Overly tender, everything has become tender in our time.
