Netflix went waaaay overboard with their diversity quotas, PC agenda and trying to reach a bigger audience and in doing so they effectively butchered everything that made Witcher franchise unique, leaving the viewers with this unappealing bland carcass. Compliments to H. Cavill, he did his damn best.… Expand

Trash scenario, foolish dialogs, nonsense tattered clips instead of normal series, unnecessary characters, SJW, lost all sense which there is in books/games. No, it's not The Witcher, and for just fantasy series its too weak implementation.

Very poor writing, very few acceptable acting, too much changes from the original histories. It's more about visual effects than content and even so, it fails sometimes.

As a fan of the games and the books, I can assure I had great time playing and reading, otherwise watching the show, didn't bring any feelings at all. Not funny, not scary, not emotional, not entertainment, not mysterious. It was very few scenes I could enjoy on this first season. Also I really couldn't understand how a fan could like it.

CD Red Projekt also changed histories of the books, but the studio improved it. The TV show changed the essence of history and characters, there isn't one single history told authentically as it's on the books. They followed the main topics of the books only.

My expectations of seeing remarkable scenes of The Witcher history was totally frustrated. I wish they could improve it, but I fear they can't make it better, specially with so many applause.… Expand

Huge let down!!! I was anticipating this series since it was announced. I wouldn't care as much for it being true to the books or the games or whatever, as long as the atmosphere felt right, alas the dialog is silly and the acting bad. TheseHuge let down!!! I was definitely expected way more of this series. In general, the show isn't as immersive as it should be. In the world of the Witcher there is poverty, corruption, adultery, pain and misfortune for the most part. The magic is shinny rather than dark and fits more a Harry Potter movie. Costumes seems cheap and as people mentions... we 've seen better in cosplay! CGI is poor overall ans storytelling is lacking where people who are new to The Witcher franchise have hard time understanding whats going on... I haven't read the books or played the game, so viewed the series objectively and with that in mind I think I can honestly say it was an utter waste of time.

Можно начать с того, что если бы сериал от ведьмака не позиционировался как "убийца" Игры Престолов и не был бы флагманом нетфликс, то и относились бы к нему по другому. Актерская игра оставляет желать лучшего, особенно кидается в глаза Йеннифер от Anya Cholatra, которая ну ник не тянет на 100+ летнюю чародейку, диалоги сильные но играет она откровенно плохо. Нетфликс, если вы делаете сериал по книгам славянского писателя, который создавал свой мир на основе средневековой Польши(сильно сомневаюсь, что его основные персонажи особенно эльфы могли быть чернокожими), то и актеров подбирай по цвету кожи соответствующему. Брали бы пример с HBO и ее Игрой Престолов, там такого мракобесия нет или с CPR, которые сделали великолепную игру на которая получилась шедевром! Йеннифер которая махает мечом как Геральт! вы серьезно?! то же самое Вильгефорц( актер тоже подобрал с учетом всех толерантных тенденций), один из самый сильный чародее, сражается с Кагыром на мечах и проигрывает ему, бред просто(хочу напомнить что Вильгефорц в первой стычке с Геральтом поломал его и чуть не убил, убил высшего вампира Региса(играл в игру или читал книгу поймет, что это почти не возможно))! Так как я знаком хорошо как с книгой так и с играми, то меня этот сериал разочаровал. Я могу очень долго описывать недостатки этого сериала, но на это уйдет очень много времени, я описал те что на мой взгляд самые серьезные.… Expand

Only good in this crap is Henry Cavil as Geralt and his sword-fights. Everything else is totally out of the books. Scenario is totally wrong, lack of logic. As a Witcher fan I feel offended by this show, very dissapointed.

Итак.Я книжный.Игры тоже хороши.
1.Каст мимо. Весь. Никому не верю.
2.Атмосфера, загублена напрочь. Смотрим "Pól wieku poezji pózniej" вот где атмосфера (да фильм не идеален, но атмосфера 100%) 3.Отсебятина рушащая сюжет.Упущены ключевые моменты историй благодаря который зачастую был смысл.Одноразовые маги и Вильгефорц, Йен которая может все! включая !!!фехтование!!!Если перечислять все уйдет страниц 20.
4.Характеры героев не переданы.Не понимают эти актеры кого они играют.
5.SJW пропаганда.Самое мерзкое.Лорен в твитере пишут трансы которых тронула история Йен как она отказалась от деторождения.Ключевой зритель удовлетворен.Мои бурные авации.(Кстати в книге все не так кто не знает.Там стерилизация из -за рождения полумагических детей которые в силу возраста были опасными или дурными но уже с магией которуб не контролировали,описывается мельком)

About The Witcher by Netflix

pros:
- No...OK, ok Henry Cavill read books, play games.

cons:
- It's all cheap, battles are terrible
- Trying to please as newcomers as well fans of books/games. Eventually makes shapeless nonsense

Hissrich cut off important stories, and events from book, but added unnecessary fictional storylines and characters and because of it the whole thing on the series lost all sense. Maybe if this series would have been released in 1995, and named some Henry Cavill: Warrior Prince , so, yes, it's worth it to 8/10. But it named The Witcher, and this name is only what The Witcher by Netflix has. Game of Thrones has many shortcomings (some actors, cut off some thing from book, etc), but first seasons it was on the right track. The Witcher by Netflix turned the wrong way in the beginning.

Amazon maybe you can to make a good fantasy series.

This show is based on a game I loved. But the show is comically bad. Henry Cavill does a decent job but the indian chick they hired to play Yen is not even close (a 7.5 to Yen's 10) and the story gets lost in obscure details that are useless.This show is based on a game I loved. Well, what can I say? I wanted to like the show beforehand, as I love the Witcher universe as a whole. The books somewhat, the games a lot. Since I saw the first trailer for the show I feared they wanted it to become their own Game ofWell, what can I say? I wanted to like the show beforehand, as I love the Witcher universe as a whole. The books somewhat, the games a lot. Since I saw the first trailer for the show I feared they wanted it to become their own Game of Thrones. As Sapkowski is what he is, see the lawsuit against CD Project and his remarks about the games, I expected him to see the show as a cash grab, too. So I am not even surprised.

I liked some of the fighting scenes, the atmosphere was somewhat interesting and the show often shows a mature approach. Cool.
Then again there are scenes that feel just akward, narratives that have weird pacing, weird dialogue and even the high polished shots and forced camera angles can't make up for the....'meh-feeling' I get when watching this show.
Thr main character does a good job on portraying Geralt but that's it.

In the end, to me, this is the bad clone of game of thrones I feared it would be, with little added value, having read the books and played the games. The latter having a narrative and heart(!) that this show cannot compete with.… Expand

Считаю, что если оставить моменты только с ведьмаком, то будет идеально, на остальное без кринжа сложно смотреть. Иногда казалось, что смотрю обычную фантастику, только ведьмак давал понять, что это за сериал. This is terrible, nothing remained of the original book, despite claims to the contrary. Trying to comply with racial diversity you forgot that the main task of the actor is a good acting game!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lauren S. Hissrich wrote the script just for a sake of promoting feminism and diversity. Every good aspect of the series of books was misconstructed, changed to fit the main narrative. Characters are caricatures of them self. Many aspects of original stories are skipped while whole other stories are created. Character traits are changed, dialogs poorly written frequently change situation, pushing feminist agenda in to viewers throat. Almost whole story of Yennefer was created for a sake of strong female lead. It's weird feeling that tv series about witcher is mainly about Yennefer and Cirila with few quick-cut scenes showing cuts of Gerald. Calente is another example of character that's over the top (clearly miss cast). Her behavior is borderline (aura of being drugged). Humor in books is subtle while in the series jokes are delivered Deadpool style. Tissaia de Vries played by MyAnna Buring is bright light in this series. Great cast and her character fits the books.

Many people write that Henry C. is made for the role. In my opinion he does not understand character and performs badly. His claim that he is a fan of the series and that he read the whole series and then goes to say that Geralt is a white knight is bit outlandish. Simple lie for a sake of the interview in my opinion. Other thing he said that points in to direction of him not knowing much is his claim that Geralt was witcher 2.0 (mutations were more advanced in his case). He acts in the same manner as he was in superman. Great savior just with bits of brutish bravado and some bitterness. Books painted medieval Europe with fantasy aspects, with slav accents here and there. While Lauren goes in to modern UK or US to showcase the world and society. Diverse cast is forced in every scene in every episode. For some reason diversity not include Asian people, apparently not diverse enough. Hissrich is a type of person who would cast Hercules and Achilles black people just for sake of diversity. Elfs are showcased as humans but being persecuted for being different. In books there were proud and feel superior to humans.

Dwarfs in books were brilliant full of vigor and brutish manners. Huge part of original vibrant world. In series, they are without and good values. Casting was done like: here are random little people chose 5 lets look for more people of color to fit the narrative.

Scenography is poor, scenes are closed, world is static, special effects are mediocre at best. Possibly the lacking of cash for production. Frames are very narrow. Factions and leaders is another story that was changed dramatically. Foltest is shown as weak, brutish person. Not as a serious king with proper leadership skills. Geralt is more concerned about miners and theirs plan to bring people revolution in to Temeria (workers revolution). Nilfgards army is shown as band of barbarians murdering humans, dogs, torturing everything in their way. You could compare them to horde of orcs from Tolkien. While they were empire with strong army. Cintra in other hand is shown as strongest Kingdom with again is not really the case. To summarize: Lauren S. Hissrich butchered the story. Created her own narrative. Changed characters to fit their view how the world should look. Whole production is a mess. Every jump from character to character is happening in different time. People who did not read books can easily lose them self's and people who did read a book are confused with timelines and stories being changed to the brink of recognition. Witcher was Netflix response to GOT but they are far, far away from meting the standards set by producers of HBO series. Political activism killed this series. But apparently, netflix likes to burn money.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 7 episode, the total destruction of the majestic Jennifer. Why add so many stupid, unnecessary, destroying images of the hero of the scene? But they cut down other stories, removed a lot of good, revealing many actions moments. And they added this. Why am I ashamed to watch this? What a terrible chronology of events? A person unfamiliar with books will generally become entangled in chronology. Why was it necessary to slam the battle for zintra at the very beginning, and then confuse people with a feast?
Why not insert first the Feast revealing the same husband of Kalante? and only then kill him.
Disgusting direction. A bunch of stupid moments.
Why did they insert so many passages from 1 episode? Just saving, by the principle, and so it goes, they will eat it. Disgusting.
I really looked forward to the series, but I was very disappointed in it. Mb for a person not at all familiar with the Witcher universe, the series will be interesting. But for the fan, he is vile. And if you do not take into account a bunch of gag, frankly stupid unnecessary plot changes, the film itself looks cheap… Expand

Terrible, twrrible adaptation. Sjw theme ruins too kany plotpoints. Casting and dialogue seemed mediocre. Henry Cavill is the only shining light and even he cannot hold the show to a addequete level with all the flaws.

Possibly the least difficult thing to adapt to is the weak casting or certain characters, the descriptions in the books are not often honoured by the show but probably not easy to find people described in the books. It's watchable, it's probable that many of us were spoilt by the incredible games, but it is also a let down and I would say that the head writer is most to blame, alongside the producer. No wonder Cavil left, good on him for walking out.… Expand

I see many 10s for this show and can't imagine how anyone thinks this show is great. Guess FOOLS accept anything. Guess they don't realize they weaken the Witcher legacy and support an ass-backwards kind of racism by rewarding this garbage.

Everything else is a pile of plot holes and wokeness.

For example, straight from the beginning. How exactly does a kingdom sneakily invade their neighbor? Are there no spies to let the other kingdom know what's going to happen? Are there no sentinels and message pidgeons to let the king know there is an army approaching the border? HOW? If a kingdom fails at such an epic scale to defend itself, then their defeat is wholly DESERVED! And when the army finally invades the capitol city, why exactly do they burn it down?! It makes no sense to waste resources and men, only to destroy the reward for all that effort.

Queen Calanthe at a party quite openly, publicly and strongly, INSULTS the son of the neighboring kingdom which was even richer and more militarily powerful than her own, FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER, proving that no only she doesn't even know the meaning of the word Diplomacy, but also common sense is equally meaningless to her.
Oh, and also "Why am I following laws made by men?!".

This failure of queen is supposed to make the viewer sympathetic to her plight? WHY?!

The show is filled with scenes where female characters whine about how oppressed they are, and how men are garbage. Also, all villains and shady characters are men. But then that was to be expected from Netflix. What was bizarre for Netflix, is that even up to episode 4 there are no LGBT characters. I half expected all the important female characters to be raging lesbians, given the wokeness of Netflix. Is this a China thing? Because China hates LGBT content?

Also what's with all the black people?! The show is based on a book based on the Polish medieval folklore. There were no black people in medieval Poland.

On a closing point, the show feels very...small scale. The locales are beautiful in CGI, but everything else feels like it was filmed in a small studio, very..."Chronicles of Shannara"-like

I would have given it a 0, but Henry Cavill's performance brings it 3 points.… Expand

Book fans will have few scenes they can enjoy and that are loyal to the source material, but will have a lot of Netflix woke fanfiction. The show feels disjointed and stripped of the charm of the books (that CDPRED masterfully adapted into the games). The script is worse than I expected and the writers have no excuse as they had all the books available and they could have constructed a script that is both loyal and fresh. Do you expect to see Ciri meeting Geralt in Brokilon? Say goodbye to that. do you expect to see that wonderful moment when Geralt and Ciri are reunited? You will get a bland meeting stripped of emotion. Can't wait to see the badass Borch in his dragon form? The CGI is so bad it's laughable.

This show is an insult to any fan that loved the books. It's not even an adaptation, but fanfiction with a bit of book stuff sprinkled here and there. Geralt and Jaskier are the only good part of the show and you can tell that the other actors are lacking. However, two good actors can't do wonders with a bad script.… Expand

After having seen all 8 episodes, I think the series has exactly the same problems the books had. Also, while I absolutely don't mind seeing naked people in a tv show, they should fit in with the storyline. The first 2 episodes were all about displaying naked women for absolutely no reason. I guess this is a cheap attempt at seeming like Game of Thrones, but to me it feels like a cheap copy. The Witcher has none of the grace that GoT had (in the beginning).

In GoT I also really cared for the characters, nothing could be further from the truth here. Every character feels shallow - unlike with Ned Stark, I really wouldn't care if any of them died in the next episode. To be honest, i don't really expect anything from the next episode - everything that has happened just felt so random and pointless. We know the main characters are important because they get a lot of screentime, not because they actually do anything. If you removed the witcher from The Witcher, everything would probably turned out exactly the same.… Expand

A lot of changes from the books were made just for the change itself, first season feels rushed and lacking of background, world's history. Timelines are messed up, Cahyr character arch is dead on arrival, moments essential to main story are reverted or just dumped (like Ciri-Geralt meeting in Brokilon). Though the action is very good, acting is nice, music, overall image re great (CGI in some places is arguable) without a doubt. At the end of a day we got a situation very similar to the 8 season of Game of Thrones - to bookreaders it looks like a silly freaking fanfiction, and to those who just watch the show itself its just another average fantasy TV show. The show will be 10/10 if in the next seasons they will actually follow the books in the script, with maybe A LITTLE change and leave everything else as it was, but right now its 1/10 to me, just because of the script, that I can compare to the book's one.… Expand

According to the showrunner, they did not adapt the series of games (although thanks to this series the Witcher gained worldwide popularity and showed interest in Sopkovsky’s books), they adapted the book. The only thing they adapted is the position of SJW (political and moral principles). I am a citizen of Russia, we have no problems with social equality and racism (in ancient times we ourselves were slaves, and even at home), so I can say what I think, because I have every right to do so. Almost everything is bad in this series, from Slavic there are only my tears (as a citizen of Russia). A completely incoherent plot and narrative, timelines often alternate, this is very confusing, because of this, the narrative collapses and the victim becomes the amount of content that could be shown to us (for example, to reveal characters). A very bad caste of actors, if there are no questions to Renfrey, Strygobor, Myshovur, Kalante, Yenifer and Tissay, then there are questions to the rest. Geralt of What's up with your face? - the actor is trying hard, it is respectful, but he does not fit the image of the canonical Witcher, he looks more like a medieval swordsman from a bad movie from the 90s. Cirri of Mediocrity - the young actress came to the set early, her game is so bad and artificial that she wants to deprive herself of her eyes surgically, she even shows a bad acting in passive scenes and they both wear cheap lenses from the sale of Anime Con with Geralt, which cause the effect of the ominous valley. Серіал поганий усим. Погано підібрані актори, сюжет суттєво змінено відносно книжки. Наприклад в книжках Тріс не приймала участів в епізоді, коли відьмак знімав прокляття з дочки Фольтеста, а в Брокілоні Цирі була з Геральтом, а не сама.Серіал поганий усим. Наприклад в книжках Тріс не приймала участів в епізоді, коли відьмак знімав прокляття з дочки Фольтеста, а в Брокілоні Цирі була з Геральтом, а не сама. Епізод з фавном який крав їжу для ельфів дуже сильно порізали. Епізод з Паветтою і Єжем дуже перкрутили. Локації показані жахливо. Не залишилося нічого від східногоєвропейського середньовіччя. З головних персонажів норм мабуть тільки Цирі, але в неї роль не дуже насичена. Єнефер просто бісить, не схоже ні на те що в книжці, ні на те що було в грі. Від позитивної і радісної Тріс не залишилося нічого. А про Каланте навідь згадувати не хочеться. Так спаскудити такого чудового персонажа... І головне навідь з таким великим бюджетом цей серіал чисто візуально в деяких сценах виглядає гірше ніж оригінальний польський серіал якому більше 15 років. Не можу сказати нічого доброго про цей серіал.… Expand

Great cast, good photography, terrible script and god awful directing... Such a shame Netflix keeps spending loads of money on good licenses and wasting them with low level staff...

There where no white actors playing Wakanda citizens in "Black Panthera". Why Netflix could't honor fantasy with Slavic origins and introduced black actors that clearly doesn't match books nor games vision?
