It's a shame that Cavill won't be present to see the show through to its conclusion, but given what Season 3 of The Witcher establishes in terms of mounting conflict, rich character growth and relationships, and phenomenal performances, there's still plenty worth tuning in for into a fourth season and beyond.
-
Despite the danger they’re all constantly in, it’s a pure delight to finally see the series’ three leads sharing a screen together. And, to its credit, while The Witcher clearly delights in showcasing the charming found family bond between them that viewers have been so long to see, not everything between and among the group is hearts and flowers.
-
Sometimes the political manoeuvrings cause a glut of sequences where characters explain or complain about what just happened without furthering the story, but the ensemble is capable of distracting us with pure fun.
-
With plotlines finally beginning to coalesce, this is the tightest, most action-packed season of The Witcher yet. It's definitely still worth your coins, and your time.
-
Season 3 pays off much of the show’s early promise—particularly between Geralt and Yennefer, whose shared scenes could snap any second from the romantic and sexual tension.
-
Season 3 of The Witcher has enough story and action to satisfy fans of the show. We just wish the characters had a bit more to say.
-
While season 3 is no perfect puzzle box, its pieces eventually fall into place, revealing a thrilling grander picture about the possible end of worlds and the rise of new monstrosities.
-
The Witcher is back and more complex than ever, but its dry approach to courtly intrigue and prophecy stalls its few true instances of fantasy fun.
-
The intervening episodes before the two groups link back up at Aretuza are all solid. We already knew the Geralt and Jaskier dynamic works, and Yenn and Ciri figuring out how to be around each other is a nice touch. .... The real problem comes with episode five, an interminable slog that doubles back on itself so many times it becomes exhausting about halfway through. It's Russian Doll season one without the cleverness.
-
Based on the initial episodes, Cavill could leave on a relatively high note, thanks to a tighter, more focused third season, at least initially, than the second offered.
-
The first half of 'The Witcher' season 3 has no intention of tying off any of its many plot threads, but it does at least set the stage for a barnstorming finale for Henry Cavill's Geralt of Rivia.
-
On its own, volume 1 is a fairly well-crafted beginning to the season, giving us most things we could want from The Witcher and raising the stakes as we knew it would.
-
The double-crossing and backroom plotting grows so prodigious and repetitive you practically have to keep it all written down in a notebook to keep it straight, if you even care about it at all. Blissfully, “The Witcher” remains watchable (witchable?) when it turns its camera back to our happy witching family.
-
Yet for all those plusses, The Witcher struggles once more to tell a coherent story – even the subplots have subplots. Maybe Cavill is leaving at the right time.
