    Oh for god's sake. It's not taking the books OR games to the screen. It's an ADAPTATION, it's supposed to be different from them. And it is. You've come with wrong expectations, despite the creators declarations of it being DIFFERENT.

    And while it's not GoT, a bit more "wooden" on it's edges, it still is a nice show with believable Geralt. Swordfights are in their own league, CGI    Oh for god's sake. It's not taking the books OR games to the screen. It's an ADAPTATION, it's supposed to be different from them. And it is. You've come with wrong expectations, despite the creators declarations of it being DIFFERENT.

    And while it's not GoT, a bit more "wooden" on it's edges, it still is a nice show with believable Geralt.
    Swordfights are in their own league, CGI sometimes could be better, but in general it's okay. Music keeps the tone of the games.

    It's not perfect, but if you're into The Witcher, you will enjoy it. If you don't EXPECT it to follow the story to the CORE.    … Expand

    Better than I imagined. I think some people are expecting FAR too much (spoiled brats)! This is good, high fantasy. Geralt looks great. Yennifer though is miss cast though (boo). That's my big gripe. Battles and fights look amazing! Castles look great. Sets are all well done and not cheap.     I have a few minor problems with the series. I am only on episode 5, but episode 2 and the horrid decision for the Faun (wow that was a bad decision) as well as the scrotum Niflgard armor are my gripes. Some will get a bit confused about the switching of timelines, however overall I am enjoying it. Had a few laughs at Geralt's F Bombs. I think it is perfectly fine, and believe it will getI have a few minor problems with the series.     Just like the game series and the books, #TheWitcherNetflix manages to pull me completely into this world.

    I'm really excited about this successful interpretation of the Witcher universe.
    It doesn't bother me at all that some characters look different because they all play their roles very well. Since I can separate series and game series well.

    - not canonical
    - chronology of time (you can get lost)
    - unnecessary flashbacks.

    It was enough to start with the saga and not loose stories.
    I look forward to the second season.

    I haven't watched entire season yet, but as far as I can tell... This series might end up being way better than most fantasy stories currently. And it's not only thanks to the source material, production defends itself very well in terms of the production value, acting, and all those little details making a story compelling.

    Of course, The Witcher's first season is not without its flaws, but all things considered, it is a fine beginning for a hopefully long a successful series.

    The acting is great, the practical and digital effects are fantastic, the scripting, although not perfect, is rivetting and compelling.

    Clearly a lot of work was put into the production and if you take the time and energy to dive into the intricate weaving of multiple complicated characters it truly becomes a wonderful story to be told. Henry Cavill nailed the voice, demeanor, and overall personality of Geralt. Composition and imagery are stunning. The fight scenes choreography and camera work is impeccable and refreshing.Clearly a lot of work was put into the production and if you take the time and energy to dive into the intricate weaving of multiple complicated characters it truly becomes a wonderful story to be told.     The acting is good. Cavill played Geralt perfectly. Choreography is also not far behind. The plot is competently changed, but sometimes it was a shame to listen to the dialogues. I hope that there will be no such drawbacks by the second season. I advise you to familiarize yourself.

    Played the video games, love the show, planning to read the books. I expect most reviews don't get what is great about this show. I expect it will be a success regardless. Very true to the tone of the games.

    It's not easy to understand if you didn't read the books. Also 1st season is like prologue to whole story. But it's very good show. It's very entertaining. Yen, Ciri and Geralt are awesome. I didn't like Triss but it's not very important. Good joob Netflix. I'm waiting for 2nd season :)

    The Witcher - after binge watching. I really enjoyed it! Sure, many shortcuts, compromises, strange combinations of stories. Some actions are a little cringy, especially for people without experience in reading books. A few weaker moments, costumes or CGI. But other than that - very good acting, extremely good music, great sword swinging scenes, pretty good story construction, once youThe Witcher - after binge watching. I really enjoyed it!     I sympathize with people having issues with the perspective and time jumps, but having NO background with this series I actually acclimated by the second episode. The dialogue can get a bit hamfisted, but since when is that new? Fantasy    Not sure where the hate is coming from.     a book reader and gamer I must say the series was promising. Of course there were some problems. I'm unaware of the serial budget but it seems to be a little underwhelming in some parts because it's a new series. Renfrey's story, one of Witcher's most beloved stories, didn't have the books touch, which I know was due to the lack of attention to it. But in the episodes that was detailes asa book reader and gamer I must say the series was promising. Of course there were some problems. Renfrey's story, one of Witcher's most beloved stories, didn't have the books touch, which I know was due to the lack of attention to it. But in the episodes that was detailes as in the book, the story is as beautiful as the book. The portions of the game are very well put into the series. makeups, effects, and CGIs are very good in some parts and bad in some that I really don't know why. The design of the elves and the dryad is also intangible. In terms of acting, I thought at first that yennifer wouldn't be able to play this role, but as story progressed, she showed more of her in the book. Another point is serial timelines that might be a little annoying for those who were not familiar with the books.
    Overall, as the creator promises, we'll hopefully see a more mature and powerful second season as the story is just beginning (4.5 out of 5)    … Expand

    I am simply amazed by how fantastic this series is. From start to finish this series had me on the edge with great special effects, amazing storyline and interesting characters. If you like The Witcher you will love this series and if you haven't heard of the Witcher before you are about to become a fan! Best series of 2019 (runner up being The Mandalorian).

    Quite good adaptation. I'm polish and I read Wither series long before even the first game. It's as much about hatred, xenophobia and racism as much it's about sword, monsters and magic. Even more. So people loosing it over casting of some black or latino actors are laughable. And don't say it "Eastern European fantasy" because it is not. Itt not happening in Poland.     "The witcher" isn't as bad or as good as you've heard. It's OK. The series is a bit chaotic and visually uneven, but all in all it's a really original series. Folklore fairy tales full of magic for adults. Pure escapism. I liked it and I feel the second season will be an upgrade. I liked it a lot.

    This first season sets out to do a few things, things it manages to do. It introduces Geralt. It introduces Yennefer. It introduces Ciri. This season is about getting these characters together and it manages to do that. It    This is not Lord of the rings, neither is it Game of throne. It is not about epic battles, and that is fine.
    It is another tale, and that is a good thing, right?
    This first season sets out to do a few things, things it manages to do.
    It introduces Geralt.
    It introduces Yennefer.
    It introduces Ciri.
    This season is about getting these characters together and it manages to do that.
    It present us with the different factions and build up for what may come.

    Does it have a problem with the casting? No, I do not think so even though this Triss does not look like the Triss I am used to. From an acting point of view they all do their job.
    Does it have a forced diversity problem? Honestly I do not know enough about the world itself to know how common dark skinned people are in the northern countries of this setting. However, I am not annoyed by it.
    Are the Nilfgard armor ugly as **** Yes, and the person who suggested it and the person who said ok to it should be fired.    … Expand

It may not be perfect, but that each episode kept getting better and better makes it clear that the director and cast were finding their footing and the last half of the season is SUPERB. Also, the fight scenes are epic. On the other hand, if you are not familiar with the booksgames, the show is doing very poorly with telling the backround history of the universe. Nevertheless, as IWell, it is not perfect, and some casting could have be done better, but it is a solid and well made show. Henry Cavil is done a great job IMO, with bringing some vibes from the witcher games. Also, the fight scenes are epic.     Creo que es una buena adaptación,contiene la esencia the witcher y los personajes estan bien representados. Enorabuena a henry cavill,me ha gustado su interpretación,tiene que ser difícil ponerse en la piel de un brujo el cual debido a sus mutaciones no tiene sentimientos.

    I can't say anything but praise for Cavill's Geralt, Chalotra's Yennefer and Allen's Ciri, I thought everything they did with the characters was perfect. Geralt is the perfect blend between book and game Geralt, and his fight scenes are amazing. Although the cuts were jarring at times, I overall liked the jumps in time in the story. She is described as a very pale figure and she is a difficult person, she can intimidate anyone easily if she desires to. But in the series she is quite a brunette and not intimidating as we imagined to be. Anna Shaffer's Triss is also an unexpected choice but she is a side character in the novels so no big deal. But Yennefer is a main character in novels so it matters more.

    As a Witcher fan i watched all season in 12 hours or so but following the storyline can a little bit difficult because of Sapkowski's novels have a messy timeline. They made everything they can in series to give it a little bit order whatsoever.

    Many people all over the world were awaiting the release of a series that was known to be the replacement of Game of Thrones.
    And i think that it's a perfect replacement.
    It always had me wanting to see the next eposode to find out what would happen.
    An amazing story-line and not bad acting made me loving the new netflix series

    Read books, played the games. The show is very good both in cast and story telling. Time jumps might be a bit difficult for people who are not familiar with the story but on the whole the series is quite solid and fun to watch.

O episodio 6 dirigido por Clarlotte Brandstorm é horrível, mal coreografado e com momentos nonsense. O cenário e os efeitos especiais faltaram investimento, talvez pelo fato de ser só a primeira temporada. A maneira de contar a historia, para quem não leu os livros, é um pouco confusa. The brutality of war, the powerful presence of magic in every-day life without it being too over-the-top, a society that I believe can exist economically and socially, with Geralt's struggle of a Monster Hunter when humans are the true monsters on top. Fantastic acting, well placed comic lines andPhenomenal. Just rewatched. Absolutely flawless depiction of what I love about Witcher. The brutality of war, the powerful presence of magic in every-day life without it being too over-the-top, a society that I believe can exist economically and socially, with Geralt's struggle of a Monster Hunter when humans are the true monsters on top. Fantastic acting, well placed comic lines and Nilfgaard making my blood boil. Three simultaneous plots breaking up the pacing, Geralt, Ciri and Yennifer, all of them spectacular. The bard accomplice, Dandelion, has an aaaaaaaweosme voice and is rocking out some great tunes on his lute. Cant praise it Highly enough as a lover of GoT.     Fascinating series. If you have read the books or played the games you will be rewarded with a deep look into the world of the saga. For all the others: be patient and try to understand all the context. You will see a deep an moving story with a really complex lore.

    Soy lector y jugador de la saga.

    En mi opinión hicieron una excelente adaptación de los relatos cortos y supieron captar la esencia de The Witcher. Se modificaron algunos elementos que sin traicionar a los relatos supieron dar mas agilidad y coherencia a la trama. Lo mejor sin duda son las actuaciones, en todo momento sentí a cada personaje como tal. No vi a Superman con peluca, vi a    Soy lector y jugador de la saga.

    En mi opinión hicieron una excelente adaptación de los relatos cortos y supieron captar la esencia de The Witcher. Se modificaron algunos elementos que sin traicionar a los relatos supieron dar mas agilidad y coherencia a la trama.

    Lo mejor sin duda son las actuaciones, en todo momento sentí a cada personaje como tal. No vi a Superman con peluca, vi a Geralt.

    Otro punto fuerte son las escenas de combate muy bien coreografiadas.

    La música me pareció agradable y me recordó a la de TW3 por momentos.

    Como punto negativo destaco a los monstruos y algunos efectos especiales. Es aceptable para la primera temporada pero es indispensable que los mejoren para futuras entregas.

    También podría mencionar algunos saltos temporales algo confusos pero creo que se esclarecen hacia el final.

    En conclusión creo que es una muy buena primer temporada con aspectos a mejorar pero que a fin de cuentas cumple y supera mis expectativas.

    Pretty good series about The Witcher`s Universe.
    Too underrated, but it has a lot of disadvantages:
    - Strange casting (black elves and Vigo, Triss-romal)
    - Too much unspoken and too much unnecessary
    - Nilfgaardian armor

    But, in summary, The Witcher is fine and **** for fans and geeks.

    The Witcher does not have the Budget of HBO GOT but delivers a very good series.
    All the actors do a fantastic job. Its not a perfect series but still very very enjoyable.
    I like a adult content because its how it is and how it should be.
    I dont understand people who vote 0 / 10 just because some actors dont match the skin colour. Thats just sad. After watching all 8 episodes. Its a 9/10 for me

    I think It's very good SERIES if you don't compare with the game. The plot worse(worse!, but quite good) than in book, but it's typical problem for all films and series in our time. Good music and beautiful picture. It worth your time.

    The casting for the show is perfect! I was worried about how they would introduce the show but it played just as the books! I cannot wait for season 2! There are many little clues as to whats happening that can be easily missed so its not a show that you can watch and surf your phone etc if you go in not knowing the story. And the ending was amazing!

    Awesome awesome awesome awesome. The writing is so good that I had to re-watch the entire season one with subtitles and kept pausing it to read over and over the script. I will have to find the script online somewhere. If you enjoyed the game, you will love the show. Don't believe the critics.... they don't know what they are talking about.

    If you loved the video games, this show perfectly encapsulates all the intrigue, adventure and horror. Some of the monsters are truly scary and terrifying. There is a lot of world building going on in the first few episodes along with multiple plot threads and different timelines. It can get confusing but your patience will be rewarded.

    I would have probably could have agreed with the current average score of 7.5, but the final episode pulled together a lot of the story, and made the journey more interesting to me in the end. Some CG could have been a bit better, and some scenes made me cringe a bit, but I thought the season did a good job of setting up the characters, and introducing viewers to the world.     I can't understand some of the bad reviews complaining about diversity. This is a show made for a worldwide audience in the 2020's, based on a book made in the 1990's. It should not be shocking to anyone that the show needed more diversity than the books, or video games. None of the casting took away from the show, or the lore in my opinion. The one issue that I see is that the narrative may be difficult for people who are not familiar with the witcher universe to follow. I have played the games and read all the short stories. It would have been helpful if the writing had more world building in it for people who have no background knowledge about the witcher universe. The violence may be a bit too intense for some and this is not a show where people usually get to live happily ever after. All in all I think its worth watching the show and the more you learn about the world of the witcher the more it will all start to make sense and begin to click. I gave a score of 10. The show is worth a 9 but unfortunately you have people leaving zeros (there is no way a zero is justified) which just screws up the overall rating system… Expand

    The show has a complex timeline to it with different timelines all shown at once. But at least it’s nowhere near as confusing as Westworld, and is equally as rewarding

    I've read every book and played every game in the Witcher series. I still had a hard time keeping up with the story line in a few places. I had to pause the show multiple times to explain what was happening to my spouse.

    The fight scenes and sword play are incredible. The show follows the books but not in order. I highly recommend reading them for a little better understanding.

    I am a book reader and a fan of a game , and i think they did a pretty good job with adapting the story. It is not perfect, but it's not as bad as the critic score suggests. I think this was the hardest part of the story to adapt ( because its not linear, and there are different time lines), but they did it well. Overall it's a solid show, and I don't want it to end before the story is finished, judging by the pace it's gonna take like 8 seasons tho. I thought the acting was good, costumes were in par with how it is in the game not really the same but it is there. Though the way the story was depicted i was lost a bit at when Geralt's and CIri's story line was happening until i understood how it was i guess that could've been shown better or at least given a time of when things were happening; but still i liked the whole series a lot. I would re-watch the whole thing again and wait for more episodes to come out or next season we will see.… Expand

Yennefer is a complex character and i enjoyed every second of her being in the spotlight. If you are a fan previous to watching the Netflix series I'd give it a solid 8. It is a slow burn to start but mostly lives up to expectations set forth by the books and games. Spends a bit too much time setting up the story, plot and characters, if you are unfamiliar it will be very overwhelming what is happening, who is who and where the current on screen story is taking place due to erratic time skips. Some casting choices are a bit on the safe side but overall Herny Cavill, Freaya Allan and Anya Chalotra are great castings for Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer. Only the casting of Triss Merigold is a bit of a head scratcher, while she doesn't play a huge part yet in the series she will judging by the Books and Game. Triss being such a big name in the Witcher universe it was weird not having her play a bigger role in the story.

    Overall I'd recommend anyone to watch until the third episode to give it a real shot, has decent fights, true to lore monsters, politics, nudity and overall good acting. Only major downfall of the first season was the slow burn, plodding story for the first few episodes and 1 or 2 uhhhh okay at best CGI moments but nothing thats a show killer. More budget and time and this could be a great show for years to come.

    Oh and don't let the "critics" reviews give you a bad impression, let those idiots go back to drooling over a meh at best Star Wars Rise of Skywalker and a terrible end to Game of Thrones that they seemed to love. I think they watched completely different things than we did.    … Expand

    I think that was an entertaining show and I enjoyed it.
    Of course there were some negative points here, mostly the non linear parts of the storytelling.
    I was confused especially by the fourth episode, where the plot revolves around a much younger queen Calanthe and her soon to be married daughter which was a story in the past, and then the camera suddenly jumps to Yennefer sitting in a chariot with Queen Lyria, a story playing in the future. I have yet to find out, why they put that plot in there.

    Also the entire Yennefer back story arc was probably from the past.
    The writers struggled to give all of the main characters a backstory and they didn't manage to work it in seamlessly.

    Many who read the books probably had something different in mind for the show, so if you're one of them, you'll probably have plenty of complaints about the show.
    I think the cast was good, they played their characters convincingly. Henry Cavill was a very good pick as the lead. I liked the writing and the dialog was actually really good at times. I liked Cavill's deadpan delivery of his wisdom, also providing some very dry humor.

    There was enough suspense, excitement and fun and I didn't see the plot turns coming. And that's a good thing. Yes, there is nudity, some boobies and a bit of lovemaking, but tasteful enough.
    I wanted to say 'not offensive' but some people are so easily offended.
    The fight scenes were well choreographed, the special effects where good enough.
    You can't expect top notch CGI in a TV show, especially if it heavily relies on those.
    The sheer number of effects would make it too expensive.

    I for one, am looking forward to season 2. I recommend giving 'The Witcher' a try!    … Expand

    Great show, with its problems. I watched all the series with pleasure. I think normal book fans will appreciate the series, but fanatics and haters always don't like something.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As someone who never read the books, and only played the games, my opinion is that the show is "good". Not fantastic, but definitely enjoyable.

    I think the production values are very high, the direction was competent, but that the writing was a little on the weak side, specifically in certain episodes (like episode 4). If they're looking to compete with the likes of Game of Thrones, they need to find better writers. I especially didn't like how inconsequential Ciri's plotline was. Her entire season can be summed up as "Escaped Nilfgaardians -> Found Geralt". Didn't help that the final episode was basically Yennifer's show, so the meeting of Geralt and Ciri at the end had less impact than it should have.

    I'm also not really a fan of them going for this triad of lead characters. IMO they should have focused on Geralt. But if anything Yennifer had more of a fleshed out story. And considering her character isn't really that likeable for a good 2/3 of the season, that was a problem. Perhaps she'll be better after Sodden.

    As for the acting, I think it was really good. Ciri, Triss and Yennifer met my expectations. And I liked Cavill's interpretation of Geralt, even though it doesn't exactly match my idea of him.

    Overall I think season 1 was a success and I look forward to season 2, especially if they can find some better writers.    … Expand

    I did like this Netflix series, despite some pacing issues I enjoyed every episode.

Para ser una serie basada en un libro, esta bastante bien, sin mas, la mezcla de brujos y bestias por doquiera hace que la serie sea mas atractiva. Algo asi, lo que se vivio con el señor de los anillos. Sin mas, recomendada.

    The soundtrack is good.
    It still needs some adjustments but the series has great potential for improvement.
    The Witcher universe is very rich.
    Who is a fan of the games have to watch, to know more about this fantastic universe.

The world around him constantly challenges him to make a choice, usually making him endure scolding or a tragedy.

    The acting in this show is quite good! Yennefer has her own character arc, and lives up to become the mysterious, beautiful and charismatic sorceress that steals Geralt's (and the viewer's) heart. Ciri appears, and her tumultuous youth and escape from cintra shape her early story. As characters go, the show is spot on! The Witcher show takes some liberties with the lore though, by downright breaking it. If anyone knows anything about the localisation in the Witcher universe, they would know that dark skinned people are from kovir. In the show however, it's a freaking lottery. Random people in the kingdoms, and even Fringilla Vigo and Vilgefortz, are dark skinned even though they are clearly not from Kovir origin. This was clearly a choice by the showrunner on purpose to make the cast more 'politically correct' and 'progressive.' Such a shame, as this could have been achieved without breaking the lore. The time line in this show is all over the place. At first you might think these events happen at the same time, but that's not the case at all. Yennefer's arc actually starts over 30 years before the scenes with Geralt, and the parts with Ciri are many years after those with Geralt. As there's no mention of it at first, this will be rather confusing for many who don't know the lore.

    I have to say, a lot of the sets look rather fake. It has this overly clean and new look to it that makes it look off. Had the production team tried to make it look more worn, it would have been more atmospheric and immersive.

    And something that dissapointed me about the season is the small amount of times Geralt actually fights a monster. Episode 4 and 6 both start with Geralt having already killed something, and not showing the battle. As a positive though, the show tries to use as little CGI for the monsters as possible, which i think greatly improves immersion.

    As you can tell, the show has positives and negatives. But in the end the show is quite entertaining to watch, and as a Witcher game enthusiast i can recommend it to people who have a interest coming from the games.

    Upon finishing the first season i was already excited for the second one, and i think Netflix is heading in the right direction with this. What needs to improve though is the inclusion of more monster fights, the sets need to look more realistic, and give this show a bigger budget. I give this season a 7/10.     This show is seriously fun! Read the first Witcher book and I must admin. They did a pretty good job of remixing the stories into a decent TV Show story-line that was OK to follow but very fun to watch. Hope they make an even better second season now that all the initial character building is done.

    Good series, books are still supreme (it's easy to be nicer than Andrzej Sapkowski, but it's hard to tell a better story, especially story he created) - but show is definitely better than games, recommend to get a book or audiobook first, to have some know how before you dive into

    I truly loved it, really i did. I would give it a 10/10 if triss wasnt 50 years old and brunette. But that's a minor problem. And how could they leave out gwent!

    The storytelling is a bit chaotic and some creature design could be better... But the feel of The Witcher is just right! Good acting, good world-building and mostly true too the books make me hopeful for the future of this series. It helps when you know the world and the characters in advance.     As a mindless fantasy rollercoaster, Geralt’s journey is five stars all the way to tea-time. Sadly, for those who like brains with their brawn, it may be more of a slog.

    It takes a while for viewers to learn how these characters are connected, via an exasperating Westworld-esque narrative knot that takes much of the season to unfurl. ... The Witcher heightens our confusion by fumbling details that would have helped it set a cohesive tone. Dialogue vacillates, from line to line, between theatrical fantasy-speak and modern colloquialisms (“Dragons are, in fact, a thing!”).
