The show is absolutely amazing. It’s visually stunning, a trully cinematic experience with very good actors and characters beautifully developed in a plot that promises great things. All the magic and essence of Tolkien is there. A milestone in television. For sure it will be one of the most watched shows of the year and a front runner for the awards season.

The series is entertaining, the look is a little too slick for my taste. (-2P)
The story seems OK, deviating from the lore here and there, but that was to be expected. (-1P)
I find the whole negative vibe a pity. It feels like people are going in with an expectation that is Utopian, remember the Hobbit is in itself very weak filmed.

The first couple episodes are laying the ground work for what is certainly going to be an epic adventure that captures the spirit of Tolkien. I enjoyed this rendition of Galadriel. She may seem angry and snappy at times but there are good reasons for her behavior. Every actor did an excellent job here. This is well worth watching and I can't wait to see the rest of the season. Update after the end of season 1: Yes, the review bombing and hatred directed towards the show is absurd and exaggerated. But after the conclusion, much of the criticism is justified. Maybe not the vitriol, but the show isn't well-written, the narrative not compelling, the characters, mostly bland and unsypathetic.

I understand that many liberties were taken with this series and they only had rights to so much of the source material, but Rings of Power still does a great job of telling a backstory for the franchise. Visually spectacular and it captures the same epic feeling as the Peter Jackson trilogy. Maybe some of the dialogue and pacing could've been improved. I watched the first episode as a Lord of the Rings fan and am very pleased with how the character of the literature and especially the films has been preserved. It has just been modernized! If the series were just like the movies, it would be boring! I personally think that no matter what Amazon would have produced, people here would have complained and cried about it. That was clear in advance! And then the new variation in skin tones seems to be a main complaint. I'm losing my faith! Lord of the Rings is a work of fiction, detached from the bonds of the earth. Just because skin color is often tied to a specific culture in our world doesn't mean it has to be the case in this series. Humans are not bound to a particular cultures because of their physique, but because of history. The world of Lord of the Rings has a history of its own though, so why would there be **** racial segregation??? And just because it was more monotonous in the previous films and books, luckily it doesn't have to be the same in newer works! Art just keeps evolving!

If you can't handle that, at least don't try to spoil the fun of the series for others! Almost everything I see here is driven by hate. Keep the hate for yourself, I don't need it!

Unfortunately, I'm not a native English speaker, but I still hope I was able to make my point clear.

Is whatever that has taken place in this first two episodes REALLY undoing Tolkien's work?

What an absolute work of art! Immersive, big, cinematic!
The first 2 episodes took me back to middle earth and the works of Tolkien.
It delivers depth to the characters presented and leaves us wanting more. Good dialogues, a great explanation of what happened and the motivations (especially Galadriel), and impeccable scenarios, with drama, comedy, action and a bit of horror. Great

Morfydd, Markella, Ismael and Nazanin, Robert and Owain and all the other cast members did a great job! I'm excited to see the Numenor arc too.
It's a series to rule them all!

People need to chill down. Stop the hate. It’s getting ridiculous, and is why we cannot have nice things.

The show is imo absolutely amazing - everything we could hope for in a fantasy show. Yes, they adapted it for TV, meaning it has creative freedom… but so what? This is better than every fantasy show we have gotten on TV the last decade.. truly refreshing. Amazing sets and scenery,

This is better than every fantasy show we have gotten on TV the last decade.. truly refreshing. Amazing sets and scenery, filming is great, pace is great, story is so far also great.. with no cringe worthy dialogue. Extremely refreshing.. especially compared to Wheel of Time, and in my opinion much better than the Hobbit trilogy.. especially due to the fact that it does not feel overdone and more practical effects instead of overdone CGI work.

Very cool start, great storylines, amazing visuals, great music. While it looks promising, I would like the events to speed up and not drag out the dialogues. So far, the show has surprised me a lot, wow!

The best Tolkien adaption to date. Get lost in the wonder of the second age of Middle-Earth.

This is a very promising start to the Second Age and the show is very well done and stays true to a lot of themes Tolkien explored in his earlier works. The cast is very solid. I have a few minor quibbles, but overall, this seems like it's on track. Ignore the detractors who are probably influenced by their own corrupt views of Tolkien.

Beautiful and compelling. Dialogue a little corny by moment but the big scale of the story is very well rendered. The locations and the sets are magnificent and perfectly filmed.

Actor playing Silvan Elf is incredibly talented. Kudos to him. There are so many cool characters here. This is truly Game Of Thrones reborn, even better. Thank you thank you Amazon Prime.

And on that sad note large number of review bombing happening here is because diversity casting in the show. It is unbelievable at this age people could be so racist. And all others complaining material is not true to source, that is another BS. Tolkien estate did NOT sell the Silmarillion because they asked prohibitively high amount that no one can pay. So showrunners are doing their best here with what is available to them. they are doing a darn good job on that too.

Loving everything I've seen so far. Amazon does not have the rights to use the Tolkien's texts strictly, so it had to make some adaptations, but the entire universe is consistent with the writer's work and the events reported beyond what is described are believable.

At the very least, this is reverant of the Tolkein's source material and loyal to the aesthetic values defined by Peter Jackson's work. As for characters and plot, give them a **** chance...

I loved it. It is visually stunning, and has great characters, and the potential to be an all time classic. Tolkien fanboys can go hide in their mummy's basement and write snarky posts about black elves and "lore'... the rest of us will enjoy a brilliant show.

Actual score is closer to an 8, but I'm trying to balance out the knee jerk 0's.
I had a lot of hesitation about this, b/c Galadriel seemed to be retconned into a completely diff character (basically Eowyn)...hot headed shield maiden etc. ----- BUT------ it turns out that Tolkien's notes DO actually reflect a backstory for "warrior/commander Galadriel" albeit briefly.

Once I realized that it's actually canon, I watched the show and I have to say - It's NOT BAD AT ALL! Def honoring the professor's work I think, and I've read all his sacred works.

Adar’s début drips with signifiers. ... When Adar informs Arondir in Episode 4 that he has been told many lies, some that “run so deep even the rocks and roads now believe them,” it is still a thrill. Tolkien succeeded in creating a mythic world, one that has now grown vast enough through acts of typological repetition and imitation to conquer television, too.

With war brewing and the forging of the rings seemingly still far off, the first half of The Rings of Power’s first season constitutes little more than stage-setting for the struggle to come. Given the lack of quests and central commanding figures, it often makes for less-than-gripping drama. However, given that there are four more seasons already planned, and potentially dozens of new characters to be introduced, the slow and throat-clearing build is possibly a good sign.
