The highlight is undoubtedly the beautiful scenery and effects and it's worth a watch just for that. The acting is really good as well, the plot is interesting but a little slow for now, I hope it improves in the second part of the season.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The makers of this show should be proud of the world that they have brought to life. This show actually made a wonderful story out of the Silmarelleon, which was written more as a Bible and history book. For the haters of Galadriel: she was not born the mature woman that Cate Blanchett so excellently portrayed: she was a fiery, angry warrior, and it was only the events of the Long War that tempered her.

Also, how can people not love the Harfoots? They are very much the true ancestors of the Hobbits, and to see the origin story of Gandalf brought tears to my eyes ... This show actually explained why he adores the Hobbits so.

And, by the Gods! Sauron! His introduction/reveal was perfection.

All you haters, go suck a lemon. You have finally seen the history of Middle Earth brought to life and all that you can do is bring your hatred of feminists and "being Woke". Just ENJOY!

One of the best TV series until now, wait a second, it's a series or a big high budget Hollywood next gen movie? Maybe at first impact don't condense the action the adventurous vibe like the Peter Jackson Trilogy, but it definitely build up with time and the storyline is way twisted and mysterious.

The series surprised me, it has strong acting, excellent writing, and interesting characters. There isn't any hidden agenda, just some strong female characters (That wouldn't have irked so many small minded people had these same characters been male).
Best thing about the show is that it doesn't try and pull off a Meme every week. It doesn't end with some shock for shock value or blood

News flash, Peter Jackson’s movies also didn’t follow the books completely and were sometimes drastically different, but you loved his adaptations, why?
The amount of racist and sexist reviews I’ve read makes me ashamed to call myself a fan. Never would I have imagined Tolkien fans would rival Star Wars fans, yet here we sit.
Out of the almost 2000 reviews, 1500 are 0,1,2 stars. Review bombing must stop. Wether you hate a show or love it, stop! Review bombing a show to force it to end is akin to cancel culture, and prominent review websites must, must do better to make sure not just anyone can review.
It is also very silly that I can rate the WHOLE season now, even though we’re only a quarter of the way through yet and the full season hasn’t been released. Must do better.

Anyway I give it an 8. Nori and Poppy are my favourites, then Durin and Disa. I can see the character development that will happen with Galadriel and I’m all for it.

This is not like the LOTR or Hobbit movies, where there are novels that the books are based on (and PJ took greater liberties with those adaptations than we have seen so far with TROP). Black elves and dwarves? Who cares? It's fantasy, folks. Lighten up.

Lots of review bombing here from a culture war that started before the shows release. So let’s take a more objective approach and not one that was determined months before release

Visuals : simply put it is the best show visually ever put on screen. Nothing more needs to be said.

Acting : it’s well done. I was a bit worried over elrond specifically as the new actor doesn’t resemble Hugo Weaving but I bought into his version of the character. It’s a very charming cast without a weak performance in sight. Writing : it’s a good vs evil story and all the tropes that come with that. But lord of the rings is the original good vs evil fantasy story as is. Can it be cookie cutter if you designed the cookie? I enjoyed and thought it was very in line with the world. Soundtrack: I was surprised when I saw Howard shore actually only did the opening theme. It sounds just like the films. All in all , it’s the best show ever put to screen as it should be with that budget. I think as a LOTR fan I can sit through slower world building more than most. So maybe a newer more casual viewers may think it’s a little slow to start and they wouldn’t be wrong. It’s also not a rated R program like Game Of Thrones so if that’s more your thing keep it in mind. But this is objectively a fantastic show that you don’t need prior LOTR knowledge of to understand if you’re new. Please , try to ignore the obvious review bombing here as people have aligned political beliefs to this show (female lead and black cast has certain people upset) and are hiding behind dishonest criticism. Watch for yourself. It’s stunning.

Clear injection of “DEI” in casting and plot lines. I’m glad Galadriel’s story arc won’t be one of the oppressed female trying to prove her abilities to the male dominant society, though we’re only two episodes in at the point of this review. Still time to stir the pot and signal pseudo-virtues. Really loved the coziness of the harfoots lifestyle - it was like seeing the Hobbits for the first time again. Yes - the choice of some of the actors is sometimes "interesting" so to speak. But I will definitely not judge them just by their looks. The acting itself was okay and that's what matters.

Shout as much as you want, "fans" - the show will be a success because it's simply good. How dare you even say something like "This is a bastardization of Tolkien". So much money and effort has been spent to create a new adaption in his universe and just because you don't like the choice of some actors and "the lore" you give the show absolute 0s. It's a FAKE UNIVERSE for goodness sake. It's not the rewriting of the WW2. The movies also rewrote things - but somehow nobody was bothered then. The internet is just a bunch of crybabies now. I for one hated the Fantastic Beasts when compared to Harry Potter, but I would never give it a 0 just because it took a different direction from what I would have liked.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Went in with no faith after seeing what Amazon did to another favorite series of mine, and with all the focus on meaningless woke fluff, but was pleasantly surprised this time. Yes, the production value is extremely high, but that's not what hooks me in a series. Blessedly the writing and characters are actually engaging.

There are multiple storylines going on, four to be exact. Three of them I'm very intrigued in, and the last one is fine. Unfortunately, that last one also happens to be Galadriel's, which means Amazon for some reason highlighted their least interesting narrative. I'm pretty sure the only two eyerolls I gave were in relation to Galadriel as well.

Durin and Elrond are great together. Highlight of the show so far! Hopefully we get a lot more of that dynamic.

This is my rating 2 episodes in. If they start injecting woke nonsense in to the detriment of the story, or the writing otherwise nosedives, I'll revise. But for now, do yourself a favor and form your own opinion. Even if you think they were disrespectful to Tolkien like I do, it still might be enjoyable for you.

The score is great and I like it feels similar but does it’s own thing. The costumes are pretty good, I find that being so similar to the movies feels strange given how far the storylines are separated in time.

The set design is mostly very well done - but for cinematography - a few seems were really off and I felt they were actors in front of a green screen. There was a glaring miss during one flashback seen that looked low budget. One of the fight scenes, was something you’d expect in marvel though - they were clearly trying to copy one character from the movies but it just felt … laughable.

The intrigue around one character is a nice break from the other plot points and I’m excited to see more.

Americans just want every episode to have action or to end in some cliffhanger. For a fantasy series to explore as much as possible of its world, it needs time. You can't expect the action of a 3hr movie in a 8+ hr series (or possibly more, if there are more seasons to come). I've watched foreign series from Asia that are 40 hour+ long and it takes a while for the story to develop and there may be a lot of miscellaneous mini-adventures or non-essential story lines mixed in, but in the end, things feel epic. Imagine, for a moment, that you'd never heard of JRR Tolkien, or Peter Jackson, or The Lord of the Rings. You just heard there's a great new fantasy series coming out that you have to watch. You switch on - are you disappointed?

From the opening shots, you can see that these creators mean business. The designs, effects and cinematography are the best you've ever seen in a TV show, in fact, better than in many movies. You meet characters, many of them - there isn't much time to get to know them, but the scripts and actors do a great job at nailing them down very efficiently, so by the end of the first hour they are growing clear in your head: the driven, obsessive, implacable Galadriel, the shrewd politician Elrond, the world-weary King Gil-Galad, the stolid soldier Arondir and his forbidden mortal crush Bronwyn, and her truculent, secretive son Theo. You meet the ramshackle, chaotic Harfoots and the feisty Nori who is always pushing boundaries and getting into scrapes; it feels like more than an hour must have passed, because already these people are starting to feel like old friends.

Is it Tolkien? Yes and no. Yes in a good way - it's a new story grown in the same soil as the original books, based on Tolkien's barely-sketched synopsis of the Second Age of Middle Earth. And also No - but again, in a good way. It recognises that a story whose genesis began nearly a hundred years ago can be raised, developed and adapted to modern storytelling styles and methods. It doesn't have to stagnate, and be merely a literary relic - something that was written once, long ago. The Rings of Power returns Middle Earth to how it should be: a living, breathing, ever-growing and evolving land of myth.

If you're a fan, watch it. If you've never got into Middle Earth before, still watch it. This might finally be your way in.

It is a visually beautiful show, it is in process and you have to give time, to see how the story unfolds. But it is completely enjoyable. It should not be considered a literal adaptation of Tolkien's work, but rather, a work inspired by it. The error was marketing to clarify too late the restrictions on use of the material.

Adar’s début drips with signifiers. ... When Adar informs Arondir in Episode 4 that he has been told many lies, some that “run so deep even the rocks and roads now believe them,” it is still a thrill. Tolkien succeeded in creating a mythic world, one that has now grown vast enough through acts of typological repetition and imitation to conquer television, too.

With war brewing and the forging of the rings seemingly still far off, the first half of The Rings of Power’s first season constitutes little more than stage-setting for the struggle to come. Given the lack of quests and central commanding figures, it often makes for less-than-gripping drama. However, given that there are four more seasons already planned, and potentially dozens of new characters to be introduced, the slow and throat-clearing build is possibly a good sign.
