The first season was fantastic! Viola Davis deserved to win the Emmy.

The second season however has turned into somewhat of a disappointment. While Davis’ character is still outstanding, I personally am tired of some of the supporting cast; especially the young female attorney who had been scheduled to marry the rich boyfriend. As for Frank, I think he moonlights for the mob.

I don’t understand the need for the blond skinny assistant to Annalise. She adds nothing to the show, except for being a bed mate to one of the students (The son of the judge).

What the show needs to do, in my opinion, is ‘thin the herd’ when it comes to the supporting cast.

This was the hottest show of the new season last fall, but I thought it fizzled a bit as it wore on. The second season premier continued that trend. Perhaps the biggest problem is that the characters aren't likeable, and therefore it's hard to invest in their fates.

6 episodes into the second season, the sophomore slump is very much there. The show turned into a weird mixture of a snorefest (the entire Hapstall case and the interpersonal relations that would make any Univision daytime soaps blush) and a bizarro social justice crusade presentation by Shonda Rhimes. I watched the first season and while I struggled with some of the characters' actions the show was well written and acted. I was looking forward to the second season. However, after tuning in, I don't care. The characters aren't interesting enough to to continue to watch. For so many seemingly intelligent people, there is a lot of sitting, waiting, and nothing. With the amount of crimes being committed by like eight people, and the number of loose ends, I've seen more narrative logic and consistency out of teen dramas. The sex scenes are still dull and annoying, I don't know who's into who this week (nobody gets a crush on someone -outside- their circle?) and I find myself staring at another screen during this show. For some reason, I still want to know where the mystery is going.

The only realistic thing is how incompetent the police department and justice system are. The least realistic thing is how much free time these 1Ls have.

Murder has no basis in the reality of the legal system, and just like Scandal, there are probably two too many characters to have to care about. But it manages to continuously elevate the dramatic stakes and navigate the ever-evolving relationships of its principals while rarely allowing itself to become narratively untethered.
