Another Period is too intent on lampooning every period convention ever to wait even a millisecond for a laugh, resulting in a show that's more frantic than funny.

It’s an excellent comedy idea in theory, linking those two TV exercises in wealth-porn and decadent excess. Alas, Another Period isn’t funny enough to sustain its premise.

There are amusing moments, but the conceit ultimately seems better suited to a “Saturday Night Live” sketch than another series. Period.

There is a lot going on here. This is a mockumentary. It's a send up of a place and time (Rhode Island around the turn of the 20th Century) that many probably don't understand. And it's a send up of both "Downton Abbey" and "The Kardasians." All that would be great if it were funny, but this simply isn't. The pilot was a hot mess, and I don't know how this will get any better. Full Review »
