Leggero and Lindhome are excellent as the sisters, but they’ve also filled the halls of Bellacourt Manor with a cast so tight that it’s hard for any one actor to stand out.

The show's essentially a sketch idea expanded to series length, and as a result is uneven. But when it hits, it's as hysterical as all those people screaming and breaking things in the clips from upcoming episodes.

While Another Period sometimes leans too heavily on "It's 1902!" gags, it's buoyed by an absurdist sensibility, genuinely surprising jokes, and a strong cast. [26 Jun 2015, p.54]

The humor is quick and smart, often poking fun at the conventions of period dramas and the perceived privilege of the wealthy.

Sharply conceived satire can sometimes accomplish what outrage and disgust cannot, sending some of this junk back in the direction from whence it flows.

Laughs come from all angles here, though particularly memorable gags crank up the raunchiness (one scene shows the Bellacourts engaging in boring “procreation sex”) and absurdity.

Wild, crude, and silly, at turns inspired and plain stupid.

Another Period also skewers gender politics (and classism and the cult of celebrity), but the jokes are not particularly charged, aiming for--and granted, usually reaching--bawdiness, not brilliance.

Another Period won't be to everyone's taste, but at least it knows it's a spoof and gleefully embraces the genre.

Another Period is too intent on lampooning every period convention ever to wait even a millisecond for a laugh, resulting in a show that's more frantic than funny.

It’s an excellent comedy idea in theory, linking those two TV exercises in wealth-porn and decadent excess. Alas, Another Period isn’t funny enough to sustain its premise.

There are amusing moments, but the conceit ultimately seems better suited to a “Saturday Night Live” sketch than another series. Period.

About 2/3 of the way in, I reluctantly decided that this is just an unwatchable mess. It made me sad because I think Natasha Leggero is one of the funniest people on the planet and I was really looking forward to this series. Oh well, better luck next time. Full Review »

There is a lot going on here. This is a mockumentary. It's a send up of a place and time (Rhode Island around the turn of the 20th Century) that many probably don't understand. And it's a send up of both "Downton Abbey" and "The Kardasians." All that would be great if it were funny, but this simply isn't. The pilot was a hot mess, and I don't know how this will get any better. Full Review »
