I watched most of the first episode. About 2/3 of the way in, I reluctantly decided that this is just an unwatchable mess. It made me sad because I think Natasha Leggero is one of the funniest people on the planet and I was really looking forward to this series. Oh well, better luck next time.

This show is not absurd, not funny, not well written...I could go on like this for a while. A pile of dull bad jokes and terrible acting jobs. Do yourselves a favour: Don't waste your time on this.

Having a hook isn't enough to make a show. There is a lot going on here. This is a mockumentary. It's a send up of a place and time (Rhode Island around the turn of the 20th Century) that many probably don't understand. And it's a send up of both "Downton Abbey" and "The Kardasians." All that would be great if it were funny, but this simply isn't. The pilot was a hot mess, and I don't knowHaving a hook isn't enough to make a show. There is a lot going on here. Another Period also skewers gender politics (and classism and the cult of celebrity), but the jokes are not particularly charged, aiming for--and granted, usually reaching--bawdiness, not brilliance.

The humor is quick and smart, often poking fun at the conventions of period dramas and the perceived privilege of the wealthy.

Another Period won't be to everyone's taste, but at least it knows it's a spoof and gleefully embraces the genre.
