I'll keep this brief. Season 1 was an enjoyable surprise. Season 2 was disappointing to say the least.
Story telling was ham-fisted. New elements to the world were added suddenly, and almost immediately and coincidentally became extremely important.
Teresa Palmer seems to have forgotten how to act. Smirking often and at the oddest of times. If season one didn't exist, I definitely

If season one didn't exist, I definitely would not have sat through all of season two.

The story did eventually become clearer, but I’m afraid this was still the sort of show where you imagine the cast breaking into laughter the minute the scene cuts at the preposterousness of it all.

Both its fantasy and romance are too weighted down in season two; in its dedication to recreating the historical setting of Elizabethan London, the series loses some of its magic.

A Discovery of Witches is quite well staged, quite well written, has quite good special effects and is quite imaginative in how it deploys them. It now offers a quite evocative rendering of 16th-century England. But it’s not very anything. Its pulse is much too steady.
