Fans of Tempest are sure to enjoy this latest installment in the long-running series. I definitely did. That being said, it doesn't quite feel like the next evolution of the classic formula. Here's hoping Tempest 5000 offers a more innovative take on the franchise.

Iron Harvest Complete Edition is one of those games that I wanted to love but only ended up liking it. Although it features an undeniably clever setting and rewarding gameplay, it's also quite a struggle to fully enjoy at times.

Wings of Wor; oops, I mean Gynoug... is a solid shoot 'em up from the golden age of the genre with a clever magic system, stand-out bosses, and there are now interesting cheats to help modernize it all. So, if you enjoy shmups then give it a go, why not?

Redout 2 is a racer that's hard to put down as it's very satisfying to master while you gradually memorize tracks and perfect your skills. However, with some unintuitive aspects and unforgivable load times, it can also kind of be a pain in the ass.

Kitaria Fables is an adorable feline-filled action-adventure RPG with an enjoyable battle system, detailed scenery, and lovely character art. However, multiple quality of life issues prevent this good game from being a great one.

Blackwind is an enjoyable twin-stick shooter that features intuitive gameplay and a wealth of satisfying moves. That being said, if its campaign was structured in a more comprehensible manner then it would be a much more fulfilling adventure.

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons is a solid successor to one of the most iconic beat 'em up series out there. If you're up for some brawling fun with an interesting roguelike structure then definitely give it a go but watch out for those TNT blasts.

Unit 4 is a challenging and unique platformer that serves up a varied and satisfying campaign. That being said, if you don't have the patience to deal with plenty of unfair deaths then you're better off waiting for Unit 5 to come out.

Undead Horde is a solid strategic combat dungeon crawler that you're sure to enjoy for a handful of hours. I wish it was a bit finer tuned before it released but it's still an ultimately satisfying and unique game.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate does a decent job of bringing back a good game for modern audiences. Although I have fond memories of the original, this remake made me realise that my memory can't always be trusted when it comes to how well certain games will hold up.

Silver Lining is a solid conclusion to The City That Never Sleeps DLC pack. After completing it, you'll want to dive straight back in to New York City and swing through new adventures so here's hoping the sequel gets announced soon.

I enjoyed my time with One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 yet it doesn't quite offer a wholly fresh and exciting gameplay formula. So, if you're happy with more of the same albeit with flashy visuals and cool special moves then you should give it a go.

Although I enjoyed Blade Strangers quite a lot, it still doesn't reach any particularly high notes for a fighter. That being said, what other game allows you to fight as Quote, Gunvolt, and Shovel Knight?

Poi: Explorer Edition is ultimately a Super Mario 64 clone that doesn't do much to stand out in the genre. That being said, its charming world and simplistic gameplay make it a great game for children or if you just want to wind down after a long day.

I mostly enjoyed my time with Little Witch Nobeta, especially with its gratifying combat and consistent character enhancements. However, it's still a rather clunky game that could greatly benefit from a map and more distinct environments.

Urban Trial Freestyle 2 is a mostly enjoyable portable Trials-like game that features plenty of content. Although the formula has been done better before, what you get here is still solid enough to be worth checking out.

20XX is a capable roguelike version of Mega Man X. If you're a fan of 2D action games then it's definitely worth checking out as long as you don't expect it to be a revolutionary take on either genre.

Dodgeball Academia's campaign that's full of distinct characters and rewarding RPG elements is quite a treat to progress through. With that in mind, I thought the core dodgeball gameplay was too needlessly limiting to provide consistently engaging gameplay.

This Secret of Mana remake is a solid new way to relive the classic although the original is clearly the better of the two options. Whether you enjoy it or not, here's hoping Square Enix announces a Seiken Densetsu 3 remake soon.

With only four chapters, Perception is a short game that doesn't justify its launch price. However, its unique gameplay mechanics are genuinely smart and imaginative and its quartet of narratives are morbidly engaging. After having been a little put off by its initial negative reception, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's actually pretty good.

Rogue Aces may not be as clever or innovative as the excellent Don't Die, Mr. Robot! but it does provide addictive roguelike dogfights that'll keep you coming back for more. Just make sure you have plenty of patience before giving it a download.

My gaming chum and I had a lot of fun with Chicken Run: Eggstraction, especially thanks to its top-notch presentation that represents the franchise in a phenomenally authentic way. Its gameplay can be frustrating, yes, but it's still rewarding stuff at the end of the day.

Simply put, the core experience of Airheart: Tales of Broken Wings is unconventional and addictive. That being said, the fact that it only contains the one single-player mode and that grinding is a necessity make it feel like less of a game than it could have been.

Konami has an incredible library of classic arcade shoot 'em ups and Arcade Archives: ORIUS is definitely on the more obscure side of the equation. Its R-Type-inspired gameplay is a blast but it's also a diamond in the rough with issues that often get in the way of the fun.

Doomsday Vault is a lovely puzzler that wonderfully combines the laidback fun of its campaign with exciting leaderboard-based challenges. However, it can also be a bit awkward to control at times and re-playing levels to master them is rather tedious.

I certainly had a good time playing SCHiM but my patriotism may have clouded my judgment. How much would I actually care about SCHiM's locations if I wasn't constantly pointing at the screen like in that Leonardo DiCaprio meme? Some people will think the gameplay is too boring and others may love its unique and creative concept too much to care. In the end, I found myself right in the middle.

It's amazing that there's a Puzzle Bobble VR game, never mind a 3D one so if you're a fan of the franchise then you definitely have to play it. With that in mind, Vacation Odyssey could have gone a bit further to make it a more well-rounded and intuitive experience.
