Sonic Colors: Ultimate is exactly what it claims to be, an Ultimate version of an already decent Sonic title. Many gamers dismissed it the first time, but if you are a Sonic fan, you owe it to yourself to check this one out. Blind Squirrel Games did an excellent job, changing what needed to be changed and leaving what worked originally intact. Super fun, challenging, and reasonably priced (even for the deluxe edition), this is a perfect title to celebrate Sonic The Hedgehog’s 30th anniversary.

It might sound hyperbolic because Colors is one of the better ones to trot out, but I hope this ensures that Sega stops trying to hide its Sonic history.

Sonic Colors largely holds up well, and Ultimate is a great way to return or introduce yourself to what is arguably the best designed 3D Sonic game so far.

Sometimes Sonic can end in products only suitable for its core followers, but Colours: Ultimate is a game easy to recommend to almost any platformer fan.

Sonic Colors Ultimate is the best way to enjoy the 2010 classic and remains one of the best modern Sonic games.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate is a safe remaster of a cult classic which should please old players and newcomers alike, but isn’t going to redeem the iconic hedgehog’s troubled record.

Sonic Colours Ultimate serves as a sad reminder that even the 3D Sonic games that are ‘one of the good ones’ don’t hold up very well. The updated visuals, soundtrack, and gameplay tweaks at least make it a better experience than the original, and some quality of life upgrades make the worst parts marginally less painful. Sonic fans nostalgic for this game will likely still value having this remaster in their collection, but the new customisable options and Rival Rush Mode are simply not enough to make up for what Sonic Colours lacks. It’s hardly what we were hoping to get from Sonic’s 30th anniversary.

TheIn my opinion, sonic colors is the best sonic game ever. And i very happy about remaster of this game. This remaster has only 2 problems. The first is glitches (i meet only 2 glitch). Example: the lag texture in planet wisp. The second problem is starlight carnival. In the remaster, starlight carnival has TOO MANY light's. And this looks very bad. But this problems, don't ruin the game. Because, the remaster has good remix soundtracks, graphics and wisp. Expand

Cutscenes are looking horribly compressed on PS5, there are some graphical glitches and many level elements that aren't thought out well or do have very weird controls. It's very easy to tear this game down and give it a low score.

Having said that, I still like this game. It is like a trashy and cheesy B-movie that isn't good but still very entertaining in what it does. Levels aren't very long but very diversified and replayable. Especially the 3D levels are presented very well most of the time, the water planet doesn't suck, and bosses are fun to fight and not too easy most of the time.

The graphics are holding up very well for an 11 year old game. And the music score is just fantastic.

I finished this game in ca. 5 hours. So I wouldn't recommend it for 39,99. But if you want to speed run every level and get the platinum trophy (like I am planning to do) it might be actually worth it. Because this game wants and deserves to be replayed multiple times. 7/10.

Sonic Colours Ultimate has too many downsides in comparison to the Wii original or emulation that I can't recommend this to anybody. The ladsSonic Colours Ultimate has too many downsides in comparison to the Wii original or emulation that I can't recommend this to anybody. The lads over at Blind Squirrel games love bloom, that's why they are called Blind Squirrel after all! The bloom is overkill. And the music is pretty decent just like the original game. I dislike some of the remixes but thankfully now you can switch between the game's original soundtrack and the new remixes. While the amount of glitches in this game is still absurd, the game has been receiving patches that have made the game more bearable. Though, the game really shouldn't have launched in such a rough state. Expand

What a lousy excuse for a remaster! The graphics in the game have been upgraded, the game is beautiful I must give them that, but the graphics in the cutscenes have not been upgraded at all. The controls I find extremely bad and the game is extremely short. I finished it in 2 days and then immediately threw it off my PlayStation.

As a trophy hunter, quickly ran into the problem of needing an S rank for each round and collecting all the red coins. Doesn't sound completely impossible, until the controls work against you again or one of the beloved levels thwarts you again.

In short: Not recommended. Am not a big Sonic fan anyway (never have been) but thought I might find this game interesting but where the glory of the original shone like a clean polished diamond when it first came out the remaster is a piece of junk I cannot recommend to anyone.

Poorly optimised version with tons of glitches, bugs and freezing issues. Avoid at all costs!
