With that said, the original Wii game was great, so this is technically great too. Honestly the thing that threw me off was that fact that O was the default boost button, not the square button. It just that this port was clearly rushed, and this is something that constantly happens in Sonic. And that has lead to stuff like Sonic 06 and plenty of other Sonic flops. Just seeing it still being practice here, is not just not a good sign for Frontier. But this is fun, but I would still give this a cautious recommendation. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It’s Decent. Played through it, had an okay time but Colors has always been one of the mediocre games in the series. Level design is super blocky and you only get about 8-10 percent of the game in full 3D control. Despite that, I had a pretty decent time playing throughout the story. I thought the graphical improvements were great, despite all of the bugs. Throughout my playthrough, I didn’t experience that many bugs, but still some stuff that’s unacceptable for a triple A remaster. Horrible audio mixing, barely any quality of life improvements except the very limited customizable controls, horrible pop in, and more. I am not blaming the development team for this because, frankly, this shouldn’t be a thing. They had to go try and port all the game’s code into a brand new engine, and I think they did a great job with the gameplay, just not the graphical side of things, but that can be fixed. Other than some other “things” mainly on the switch port, I did not have a bad time with the game. It was nice to see SEGA finally release a real sonic game again. And even though this one is really rough around the edges, this gives me hope for new, more polished remasters for games that (IMO) deserve it much more like Unleashed, 06, SA2, Heroes, and more. (Especially Unleashed and Heroes). Other than that, decent time, if your feeling sonic deprived, pick it up, (just not for the switch). Expand

Sonic Colors was never really that great, but Ultimate is both a downgrade and an upgrade.

There's a bit of a perception that Sonic Colors saved the Sonic franchise when it came all the way back in 2010. In fact, it was viewed as a refreshing change of pace to the games that came before. In retrospect, there are a lot of flaws about the game that are very hard to overlook, things like

There's a bit of a perception that Sonic Colors saved the Sonic franchise when it came all the way back in 2010. In fact, it was viewed as a refreshing change of pace to the games that came before. In retrospect, there are a lot of flaws about the game that are very hard to overlook, things like the incredibly short campaign that takes maybe a few hours at best to complete.

There's a feeling of cheapness about Colors from its writing, cutscene animation, to the amount of content it originally had. But this is Colors Ultimate, and it does have more content than the original game with unlockable cosmetic option to encourage replaying through levels. That would be great, if most of the levels were fun to play through. Unfortunately, only the first level of every act is really any good, and the rest were very apparently made to extend the gameplay length of the game artificially. Only people who really want to acquire all achievements would see any worth in playing through those levels again. Not to mention, for a 3d Sonic title game, over half the gameplay time it actually 2d.

Having said all those negatives, there are positives. The finale of Colors is memorable and exciting, and even though the wisps go on to be unwelcome additions to Sonic games games after Colors, they were and still are a fun part of Sonic Colors.

Overall, I'd recommend anyone who hasn't played Sonic Colors to get Ultimate, since it is basically Colors but with more content. At the moment there are some glitches that need to be patched, but that will most likely be done in time. People have also pointed out that there are a few visual differences in Ultimate, such as more bloom, than the original Colors. I'm going to be controversial and say I actually like Bloom. Also, they remixed the soundtrack and it's very give and take.

    Overall, a Mixed bag.

Painful audio design with nothing special about the game. A lazy remaster that uses cutscenes from the original Wii version.

Sonic colors ultimate is a remastered game to make nostalgia and fun for new fans. While it’s story and content are mostly promising, glitches have breached out to all consoles from the game. This is a huge downside to the game causing seizures and corruptions with still more to come.however, this game is still bearable but not for its full price.

So this is a Sonic game, so it is not very good. Cutscenes are looking horribly compressed on PS5, there are some graphical glitches and many level elements that aren't thought out well or do have very weird controls. It's very easy to tear this game down and give it a low score.

Having said that, I still like this game. It is like a trashy and cheesy B-movie that isn't good but still

Having said that, I still like this game. It is like a trashy and cheesy B-movie that isn't good but still very entertaining in what it does. Levels aren't very long but very diversified and replayable. Especially the 3D levels are presented very well most of the time, the water planet doesn't suck, and bosses are fun to fight and not too easy most of the time.

The graphics are holding up very well for an 11 year old game. And the music score is just fantastic.

I finished this game in ca. 5 hours. So I wouldn't recommend it for 39,99. But if you want to speed run every level and get the platinum trophy (like I am planning to do) it might be actually worth it. Because this game wants and deserves to be replayed multiple times. 7/10.

Versión bastante correcta del clásico de Wii. Ha envejecido un poco mal en algunas cosas, pero sigue siendo una aventura divertida y memorable, He echado en falta una reedición de las cinemáticas.

Don’t get me wrong sonic colors has its moments… some initially cool level design, from the candy land, to underwater levels, a rollercoaster… but then it’s a repetitive borfest for the rest of the levels… doing the same stuff, the same frustrating and slow platforming..
Sonic Colors is at its best when youre going fast, collecting rings, dodging, but it just pumps the breaks far too often with these awful platforming sections.. which brings me to the aliens.. as you progress youll unlock new aliens that can hlp you levitate for example, or go through these diamonds.. but far too often an alien will be locked for you to come back later.. killing all exploration insentive.. why look for secrets, why try and get high scores if some of the level is locked off.. I barely want to play these levels the first time let alone come back later…
Sonic Colors Ultimate may have been a great game back in the day.. but 11 years later it’s a clunky bore…
Its playable, it isn’t a bad game, but wow is it forgettable.
    I give Sonic Colors: Ultimate

Despite having a very buggy launch, most issues have been fixed and is a decent game overall. However, the cutscenes have very poor writing and the story is uninteresting. And personally I don't like the wisp mechanics, but I can see how others might enjoy it.

This game is ok. You will find tons of glitches, but not often enough to impact the overall gameplay. I understand that corrupted data is a problem for ps4, but just for that console. The new ghost wisps are anti-climatic. But the music can slap, and the customization options are cool but don't play in cutscenes. I won't even get into how much the rival rush is broken. Sonic Colors is one of the best 3D Sonic games, but this "Ultimate" version is not.

We still have a solid game with enjoyable gameplay, good music (thank god they patched the way too choose all the original soundtrack and not the remaster garbage), funny characters and a way too play this great game on something else than the Wii. The scenario translation is still a joke though..

Watching the trailer for this game, first few seconds showing the gameplay after they said it was a 60fps, 4K remaster. You see that the developers themselves have problems with the game. Let's omit this fact. I played the game on PS. And I realized that the game is not worth its money. I pay money for a crooked remaster. With a bunch of bugs.

A disappointing, lazy remaster of a very good platformer. The developers took the path of least resistance by stretching textures and trying to conceal their blurriness with aggressive lighting, which made things worse. The only advantages I see here are the quality of the original game and the fact that the Ultimate edition brought it to new platforms. [12/2021, p.59]

As a remake, Sonic Colors: Ultimate does not pay much attention to many of the details, there is not much difference from the original except for a better graphics. However, based on the excellent quality of the original game, Sonic Colors: Ultimate is still a work that allows players to fully appreciate the charm of the Sonic series.

Overall, Sonic Colors Ultimate is a must-buy for anyone who loved the original release – or who missed it and always wanted to try it out. On the PS4 and PS5, it plays wonderfully and our time netted zero issues either visually or with crashes. Some have reported issues on the Switch version and it seems like it would be best to wait for that one to get fixed-up before buying. However, if you’re playing on PlayStation and Xbox hardware, you’re in great shape to enjoy one of Sonic’s finest adventures ever and his best 3D outing in history.
