Hidden Shapes: Black Skull +Old West is little more than a box of jigsaw puzzles with a simple, console-friendly approach to completing them. But that’s a snug fit for gamers who want that delicate high of creating a picture over time.

Rumbleverse is a nice shake up to the battle royale formula. Learning to play an already familiar genre with its own twist is fun, and when it looks good and plays so well out the gate, you can’t really go wrong here.

Roll the Cat is a very well-made game. The titular cats are adorable, the puzzles are challenging and the art direction is top-notch.

Garden Story introduces itself as something of a Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing, but can’t possibly compete: its systems are too shallow, and its plumped for some combat when it might have been better without.

The puzzles may just have enough of a pull to make you consider purchasing Like No Other: The Legend Of The Twin Books, but you might need to use your imagination to conjure up an interesting tale to go along with it.

We could sneer and deride Kid Ball Adventure for being a one-trick game, with one move, no real story and 100 levels for it to pad out. But there’s a purity about it, as it holds onto its one bounce mechanic, ignores any other gimmicks or systems, and produces something that’s as simple as it is fun.

Aquadine is an original visual novel that plays with a unique and absorbing story. It comes with some good writing, likeable characters, beautiful visuals and a great soundtrack.

Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? is the wrong question. Are You As Patient as a 5th Grader? is the more appropriate. You will need patience of steel to last eleven rounds with this slimline quizzer.

Gravitar: Recharged built the foundations on how to improve these old-school experiences and Yars: Recharged continues the trend. It is better in just about every department than the original four: graphically, musically and more.

Severed Steel is breathless. It’s a dervish of wall-runs and gunplay, and we struggle to think of a game that makes us feel so powerful, so much better at gaming than we actually are. Sure, it’s over in two flicks of a lamb’s tail, but those flicks are glorious and in slow motion.

We don’t get games like Ynglet often, so let’s take a moment to celebrate it. It may look superficially like thatgamecompany’s Flow, and it might have the simplest of all objectives - to reach an exit. But in all other ways, it’s deliriously unique.

Which gang you fall into will be completely up to you. For us, we’ve always been on the side of the Third Street Saints and with the rebooted Saints Row, will continue to do so.

A Tale of Paper: Refolded is a short experience that will take you a few hours to complete. But that's not a bad thing and you’ll enjoy your time, without it ever outstaying its welcome.

Book Quest is a promising game that is ruined by some odd design choices. The action RPG side is pretty good, with things to find by exploring, and while the lack of required fighting makes a playthrough easy, it is pretty good fun. The other sections though are much more shoddy and add little.

AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – Nirvana Initiative is a brilliantly bizarre sequel that attempts to right some wrongs and introduces a handful of great new ideas.

Sol Divide is clearly below-par for Psikyo, but it’s a wilfully bonkers below-par. Nobody should be smooshing R-Type into Golden Axe, but Psikyo tried anyway, and we’re glad we were there to watch the experiment. One for the curious.

In our previous Psikyo reviews, we complained about the lack of risk-taking. Shows what we know. Samurai Aces III: Sengoku Cannon changes a lot, and every change is risible.

If you're not too bothered about objective based gameplay and prefer forging your own path, you'll likely enjoy however much time you decide to spend with Tribes of Midgard.

The Bonfire: Forsaken Lands is a huge success - a game that is capable of drawing you in and hardly ever letting go. At least not until you've exhausted multiple dozens of days and nights trying to survive out in the most hostile of lands.

TENGAI is the zenith of the Samurai Aces series, and it’s one of Psikyo’s finest. Who knew a game featuring a flying battle-monk could be so entertaining?

Thymesia doesn't necessarily bring anything new to the Souls-like world, but what it does do, it does very well.

Picking up Noel the Mortal Fate is dependent upon your love for storytelling, because that’s the real draw here. The rest is just an average accompaniment.

Samurai Aces is a perfectly decent Psikyo shooter. In quality terms, it sits happily at the midpoint of all the Psikyo re-releases, with an engaging theme and some cracking bosses. On the flipside, it has a limp story and a penchant for bullet-spamming.

It’s going to find love from the hardcore RPG fans, and so if you fall into that camp and didn’t try Outward previously, the Definitive Edition should be the way to go.

Dadish 3 is just a feel-good platform adventure, generous in its laughs and imagination, and you’d be hard-pressed to emerge without a smile on your face.

Temple Dash: Jungle Adventure may have been spruced, but it still stinks.

Puzzle-lovers should note that Him & Her Collection is a hefty compendium, and it has a lot to offer to anyone that plays in short doses.

If you like Minesweeper, then you’re going to find a great deal of fun in Tilesweeper as it really takes the concept to new heights.

Arcade Paradise is a love letter to the days of those summer afternoons, spending pocket money in these delightfully dingy places. It could also be the final nail in the arcade coffin, because no real-life arcade can offer this many good titles under one roof.

Say ‘Shadoworld: The Impossible Escape Game’ to us, and an involuntary facial tic will spasm across our face. This is not a game to play if you value your time or sanity.

GUNBIRD 2 is a shoot-’em up that manages to be accessible while offering plenty to master.

Assuming that the steep price and lack of extras or variety doesn’t phase you, GUNBIRD is a rollicking beauty.

It would be easy to find Cosmos Bit guilty for a series of gaming crimes. It’s got an unhealthy love for Metroid; it’s reasonably rough to look at; it invites grind; and the save system is as creaky as Resident Evil’s doors. But, like the parent of an ugly child, we can’t help having some affection for Cosmos Bit.

With rewards for playing through Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II multiple times, you’ll need to sacrifice a large part of your gaming life if you choose to dive in.

The wonderful world and ever-increasing challenge ensures that Lumote: The Mastermote Chronicles is a unique experience that is well worth taking in.

Road of Death surprised me. I went in with low expectations, and, at first, they were all met. But, the more you play, the more the various mechanics will reveal themselves, as Road of Death turns into a surprisingly deep and involved little game.

It may not be the easiest, and it can be a little insistent in its objectives, but Super Mombo Quest is as rewarding as they come. Just keep that combo up, soldier.

We’d be lying if we said we didn’t enjoy Hillbilly Doomsday. It’s like someone handed us Megaman but with cheats enabled, and we merrily chewed through the levels with blood spattered across our face. But while there’s a place and a time for that, we found our attention wandering from the repetitive enemies, the basic levels and the cheesable bosses.

There may be people who feel that Psikyo shooters are on the simplistic, easy side. To those people, we recommend the bullet-hell of Strikers 1945 III. For everyone else, we’d like to introduce you to the first two games in the series.

There’s no doubt Digimon Survive is a great visual novel full of content that will warrant multiple playthroughs, however the tactical aspect feels like an afterthought. It’ll all depend on what you want from the experience as to whether you should pick it up, or not.

With the rewind feature, Avenging Spirit can still be completed in under an hour, but it is a highly original title when compared to what else was out around that time. And even in the year 2022 it is still a fun 2D jaunt, with the Ratalaika Games promise of easy achievements to boot.

DreadOut 2 does a good job of creating an interesting adventure that has an exemplary use of a camera as the weapon of choice.

You’ll have a lot of fun playing RimWorld Console Edition and it’s a game that you’ll find yourself constantly heading back to. The PC version is bound to remain superior thanks to the fans that have built up so much content for it, but we should be thankful that we can now boot up RimWorld on our consoles.

Hell Pie is a more than competent game that is worth playing despite the obscenity, rather than because of it.

For the low asking price, Dungeon Slime Collection does bring a modicum of fun, but it is fun that is cut short fairly quickly.

Arsonist Heaven has some good ideas, but it really could do with a bit more care being spent on the traversal mechanics. Rather than being a twisted firestarter, it is more of a damp squib.

There is definitely a more varied overall list of games in the Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium compilation than the first one, but there are also more repeated titles.

Puzzletronics: Digital Infinite is a hard one to recommend, even for the silly low asking price. It's three hours of mindless jigsaw puzzling, aligning tiles in hope of lighting an LED.

Despite seeming similar to Two Point Hospital on the surface, Two Point Campus is stuffed with enough new ideas and irresistible charm to ensure it is a sequel well worth playing.

Bright Paw: Definitive Edition is not Stray. It’s a single-player board game where a lack of freedom of movement is the point: where you are at the whims of the cards in your hand. The ponderous gameplay and the very, very gradual difficulty curve might lose it some admirers, but if you show it some patience and love, then this cat is inordinately charming and rewarding.

If Strategic Mind: The Pacific could have been streamlined a little, optimised for the console market, it could have been a contender, but as it is the obstacles to just getting on with the game are too damn high. And that's a shame. A massive shame.

Frogun is deep, charming and podgy with collectibles. Just be aware that this frog is not fit to lick Mario 64’s boots.

While DJMAX RESPECT V is glossy and fully featured, it doesn’t have it where it counts: in its playlist of songs, and how well those songs are mapped to the beats.

Strikers 1945 II is peak Psikyo shoot ’em uppery. It’s fast, overblown and demands to be replayed.

Matchpoint - Tennis Championships is less of a winning smash and more of a missed dropshot.

Despite the depressing themes at times, it’s not all doom and gloom in Gloom and Doom. Give it a chance, for it may surprise you with a heartwarming tale full of wit, charm and totally badass characters.

There may be a masochist who enjoys the endless running of Running on Magic. It certainly has plenty that’s pretty and charming, particularly in its art and characters. But you’d have to pay us good money to play it again.

These major chapters for The Elder Scrolls Online rarely disappoint, and High Isle is one of the better ones - if only for introducing Tales of Tribute alone.

You’ll like the puzzle solving and overall theme of Seduction: A Monk’s Fate, but may find that the QTE sections get a tad annoying.

There is a great concept with wonderful moment to moment gameplay behind NARAKA: BLADEPOINT. It’s a game that is capable of providing a fun time, but only if you can manage to get over a myriad of other issues.

I really wanted to like The Galactic Junkers, and I did at times. However, the clunky controls and glitch ridden gameplay will prevent you from becoming totally absorbed in the far out world.

The Legend of the Dragonflame Highschool Collection is another excuse to pad out your Xbox Gamerscore in a quick and easy manner.

Train Valley: Console Edition is one that we can see ourselves going back to for weeks – and possibly months – in the future. The highly addictive, simple-yet-complex nature lends itself brilliantly to a game that can be played for a few minutes at a time, or – as we’ve found – as hours pass. There are serious frustrations with the control scheme and UI, but other than that this is a super little game that will keep you on your toes at all times. Just remember, that pause button is your friend.

Perhaps the career is a bit short and those bits that complement it don't quite hit the mark, but 80's Overdrive is an arcade racer that you'll thoroughly enjoy.

Lord Winklebottom Investigates is the quintessential British murder mystery; a great addition to the vast point-and-click library.

The real joy comes in the less intense moments; those times when Soundfall works best, shooting and dodging as you build combos with each and every beat.

Spidersaurs is a short, frantic game which struggles to do enough to nail down any replayability value. It does offer solid, challenging platforming action, albeit at a pretty steep price.

Crypt of the Serpent King on the Xbox One was a game that hardly pushed the boundaries of the console. Crypt of the Serpent King Remastered 4K Edition pushes the Xbox Series X|S even less. There is barely any update between versions.

Hazel Sky is quite short, just some four hours or so in length, but you shouldn’t feel short-changed. It does feel like this is the starter to a bigger narrative to come and whilst the controls feel odd and sometimes a bit frustrating, the original concept, visuals, and variety of gameplay make Hazel Sky an experience worth having.

Should you be after some easy Xbox Gamerscore and achievements, Wild West Crops is the game for you. On the flip side, should you want to play a game that pushes you to complete it, and gives the warm glow that beating such a title gives, this isn’t it.

Unsouled is a bit more than a 2D Elden Ring. The combat is a highlight, the story is pretty compelling, and while the visual look means it won’t be for everyone, move beyond the graphics and there is a more than competent game lurking below the surface.

MADiSON is a pretty great first-person horror adventure. It has a strong story, a great premise, some impressive visuals, and amazing sound design.

Get-A-Grip Chip and the Body Bugs is nearly a carbon copy of the first game, just with a reskin and some difficulty tweaks.

If you’ve enjoyed games that absolutely drench their 2D platforming in artful, kooky narrative, then you are going to find a treat in The Wizard and the Slug.

It’s rare to find a debut game as confident as As Dusk Falls. It’s rarer still to find one that unerringly finds your belly for an emotional gut punch like this one does.

Endling - Extinction is Forever is an important game that tells a tale of the environmental and man-made destruction that is happening around us.

You'll find the sheer number of weapons and stages welcome, but Remote Life just does not find a way to thrive in the darkness of space.

Aery - Vikings glides pretty close to all the Aery games that have come before it. It is as serene and welcoming as its flight-sim forebears, but also as glitchy.

Apart from little issues that you can learn to drive around, Hot Wheels is a worthy addition to the greatness that is Forza Horizon 5.

DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace might not be the game you expect. A diluted Star Fox, it’s too repetitious in its enemies and levels for an adult, and too buggy, difficult and clumsy to control for a pre-teen.

Rayland - quick, easy and, for some, nothing but Gamerscore fodder. It is a puzzle game that focuses on getting lasers to point at a goal; something which will have been done better in other games, even where it isn’t the main feature.

There is a lot to like in Bright Memory: Infinite. It is a graphically impressive marvel that is a marked improvement over its predecessor. The story is hard to follow but the gameplay more than makes up for its shortcomings. From the solid gunplay to the fun genre mashups, Bright Memory: Infinite is undeniably a fun time.

Formula Bit Racing DX is enjoyable and will help boost your Xbox Gamerscore, but there’s not much challenge to it and you’ll struggle to find a reason to play it beyond an hour.

Wildcat Gun Machine is sold as an “explosions rollercoaster” - you get on at the start, hold on tight, scream a bit, and then get off at the other end, shaking from the intensity of the experience.
