    A Hat in Time
    A Hat in Time is a 3d platformer that offers unadulterated enjoyment, marred only by some slight technical issues, such as camera hiccups and occasional clipping. After the credits have rolled you' ll be craving for more, so some additional content in the form of extra chapters and power ups would be welcomed. On the whole, a great game and a worthy contender for the throne of the genre, on PCs at least.

    For all practical intents and purposes, this is System Shock 3. Arkane Studios has salvaged Looking Glass’ throne, gorgeously decorated it with alien glass from the valleys of Neptune and now comfortably sits on the immersive sim throne, presiding over one of PC gaming’s founding and most influential genres. A masterclass in every respect, Prey is a very strong contender for 2017’s Game of the Year award.

    This time Tim Schafer and Double Fine Productions did exactly what needed to be done. They carefully improved and modernized the visual and sound aspects, as well as the interface, of an exceptionally well-designed game, left its other elements untouched, just like they should do, and successfully gave a new breath of life to this beloved adventure game.

    Nioh: Complete Edition
    Labelling Nioh as "another Dark Souls clone", just doesn't do it justice. The Complete Edition is a package brimming with content, challenging gameplay, deep combat mechanics, Diablo-like looting and a fun crafting system to boot. It does not stick to its peers' blueprint, but it endeavours to evolve in a different beast, and for the most part, succeeds.

    Battle Brothers
    Battle Brothers immersed me more than what you would expect from “just” a turn-based tactical RPG. I love its artistic approach, its mechanics to every last bit, and of course its unforgiving difficulty curve. I would not have it any other way. In this reviewer's humble opinion, this is easily the leading candidate for indie game of 2017.

    Empire of Sin is a love-letter to the old-school design of Bullfrog games. Part management sim, part RPG, part XCOM (with gangsters), it achieves its goal to bring different elements together into a cohesive and enjoyable unit.     Total War: Three Kingdoms
    CA took a huge gamble with its latest release and it really paid off. Three Kingdoms offers a very polished campaign with a strong narrative and robust diplomacy and espionage systems. Together with the immersive management of faction characters, the series are steering towards deeper micromanagement and a more challenging and deeply immersive experience. Romance mode might not be everyone's cup of tea but there are also other options for the more historically inclined fans.

    Druidstone draws inspiration from a variety of genres (even tabletop boardgames) and combines all those elements elegantly. This is a game which will put your tactical planning skills to the test and demand forward thinking in the development of your characters.     Ruiner
    Ruiner is a truly magnificent ode to Akira and Ghost in the Shell. It builds a brilliant world with a lot of narrative undertones for you to grasp, should you wish to. The physical ultra-violence is only the entry point to the dystopian atmosphere of the game. All the gameplay elements are complex enough without being overbearing to the player. You'll find yourself easily juggling through skills while you deliver carnage. In Ruiner, everything seems to have fallen into place: artistically, narratively, technically. Give it a go, you'll be amazed at how good it is.

    Under the roguelite hood, Loop Hero serves as a perfect analogy of an everyday person's daily routine: wake up, face the obstacles, reach your (almost unattainable) goal, set a new goal, measure your losses. Rinse and repeat. Besides all that, Loop Hero is a stellar example of gameplay design ingenuity, meshing different elements in an addictive pixel-art nod to the 80s.

    Forza Horizon 5
    I don't think there's a motoring enthusiast who won't be excited about Forza Horizon 5, with a slight caveat for those who have had their fill of Forza Horizon 4 and might want more of the same - though honestly, I can't imagine how the formula could be improved upon, which in the arcade driving department is bordering on perfection. It promises and delivers an incomparably customizable driving experience, with dream-cars, in breathtaking landscapes.

    The fantasy setting of Warhammer provides the perfect canvas for the mass-scale battles of the Total War series. While very approachable to potential new players, it will appease the demands of seasoned veterans. Creative Assembly has managed to capture the essence of Warhammer and transfers its epic feel in their best iteration of the Total War series, yet. All this has been delivered in a stellar performance-optimized package. It's a title which should not be missed.

    Streets of Rage 4: Mr. X Nightmare
    There may not be any groundbreaking improvements in the graphics/audio aspects, but the gameplay enrichment is so apt and entertaining that it raises impressively the overall value of the game. Therefore, if you enjoyed Streets of Rage 4, there is no reason not to get this DLC, which, thanks to the new characters and Survival mode, is capable of keeping you busy for many hours.

    Solasta: Crown of the Magister
    Solasta is a love-letter to Dungeons and Dragons, offering the best implementation of the 5E ruleset (via SRD5.1) to-date, period. It may feature a linear, uncomplicated story, but it makes up for it by being lukewarm and a special nod to all D&D veterans. We fell in love with the slick design of UI that can claim to be the best/easiest tutorial of D&D combat out there. Considering the budget and scope, Solasta delivers 100%.

    Stellaris: Distant Stars
    Having already put about 700 hours into Stellaris so far, the new anomalies, event chains and various storylines added by the Distant Stars story pack managed to fill me with a sense of wonder that I hadn’t really felt again since first playing the game back in May 2016.

    Total War: Attila
    Attila offers a new "horde" mechanic and re-introduces obsolete game-play elements like the family trees progression back into the Total War series. In general, it should be considered a much better version of Rome 2 in every aspect, in a more interesting historical setting. Should you find yourself in a dilemma between Rome II: Emperor Edition and Attila, I would definitely suggest the latter.

    ATOM RPG: Post-apocalyptic indie game
    At first glance, ATOM might play out like the "Russian Fallout" it appears to be gameplay-wise, but its many layers contain so much more than just a tribute. Fans of old-school RPGs (as well as Soviet nostalgists) will certainly enjoy every single hour (and Ruble) they spend on it.

    The Excavation of Hob's Barrow
    The Excavation of Hob's Barrow is an adventure of a rare "harvest", which, if it had been released in the golden age of adventures, would now be remembered as a top example of the genre. With its brilliantly written plot and a thrilling finale, Cloak & Dagger's creation has already carved out a lofty place among the best indie games of the year.

    Valheim came virtually out of nowhere, but it is undoubtedly a phenomenon that has marked PC gaming in the first months of 2021.     Mika and The Witch's Mountain
    Mika and the Witch's Mountain is an aesthetically pleasing title from Spanish studio Chibig that respects and converses with the original medium from which it draws inspiration. It's a cute short coming of age adventure that elegantly touches on the condition of labor without reaching the point of becoming a preachy manifesto. [Early Access Score = 76]

    Death Trash
    Death Trash is literally a game about PIXELATED MEAT. Even though it is heavily influenced by Fallout, it seems to lack any similarly deep moral and philosophical ambiguity, memorable NPCs or open-ended questlines (in its Early Access state, at least) and instead focuses mainly on delivering an imposingly grotesque post-apocalyptic atmosphere filled with blood, vomit, machines and MEAT. Its Meatpunk aesthetics definitely manage to win us over in this EA release, as well as make us look forward to how the game's content will be further enriched in the future. [Early Access Review]

    Rustler
    Most of Rustler's mechanisms are directly inspired by the first GTA games. This, combined with the games Monty Python-inspired sense of humor, result in a truly unique blend. Some aspects, like the lack of manual or even checkpoint saves, might be a bit "too hardcore for today's world", but its Early Access status means that feedback can be received and that any shortcomings can be remedied.
