Confusing marketing and a visual choice that impedes while in motion will probably alienate potential customers. The Eternal Castle [REMASTERED] is targeting a narrow audience, with a 2-bit CGA graphics gimmick. Some will enjoy it a great deal. Others, like myself, will develop eye strain, and end up reaching for FLASHBACK instead.

Misc: A Tiny Tale is a very cute game with a surprisingly profound and impactful story that transforms cleaning up the world around you into an adventure.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Heart of The Forest offers adventure and visual novels fans a slow buildup of character development, interpersonal relations, and plot, then a really quick finish with an anticlimactic ending that left me wondering, “Was that it?” Its saving grace is that you play through more than once to see where you can take the decisions and how your character will end up.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are fine enough remakes for reliving some memories and sharing them with the next generation. But beneath the glow of nostalgia, there’s a carelessness about their build that makes them fall short of expectations.

I was really looking forward to Mario Strikers: Battle League, and for the most part it has been a worthy successor, but it’s a little hampered by the complexity of the gameplay. Even scoring goals can be a bit difficult overall. Soccer is definitely not known for high-scoring affairs but it is simply too difficult to score goals in the time allotted. This does seem to be different from what I remember in the previous games. It was a bit easier to score goals and that is definitely missed. There’s a balance that sports games need to strike, but Battle League does tend to be just a bit more difficult. Still, there is a lot to love about Mario Strikers: Battle League, but it almost made me want a remaster of the first two games more than anything.

Shady Part of Me is a game that puzzle platformer enthusiasts will most likely enjoy. But when all’s said and done, it looks like this will stay in the shadows compared to the indies it takes ideas from. It’s fun at the time, but ultimately forgettable.

The Perfect Pencil mixes a really cool hand-drawn style with a dark, symbolic story about inner struggles. The gameplay follows a familiar Metroidvania formula, but creative enemy designs and the analysis mechanic keep it engaging. Frustrating save points hold it back a bit, but it’s still a solid and slightly unsettling experience.

Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain is a fun way to exercise your mind, with short and sweet activities presented in a cute and cartoony way. It plays similarly to previous entries, but it’s still enjoyable, especially for new audiences. Or even if you’ve just missed Dr. Lobe’s style of brain training.

Overall, if you are looking for a nice tale to dip your toes into and finish in one sitting, this game is for you. If you are looking for a game that you will delve into for a long while, well, you won’t find that here. The game offers an indulging story of a mother’s disappearance, but with a splash of color. It’s gorgeous art style and meaningful mechanics make this game a worthwhile addition to all Switch libraries; that is, once a sale happens or more content is added.

Some minor visual elements don’t translate to the Switch as smoothly as they could, but Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Editions sucks you into all the most captivating fantasy adventures.

Although Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered does include a handful or two of ideas and ghosts from the first two movies, it does a great job of explaining things enough that someone unfamiliar with the franchise can pick it up and play.

HAUNTED: Halloween ‘86 is a follow-up to a technically revolutionary concept made real, and unlike many daunting modern titles, it actually pays off in what it’s trying to accomplish. Considering that it’s made within the technical confines of the NES while retaining modern gaming sensibilities, it’s hard not to recommend this charming beat ’em up. I can even overlook the dismal concept of candy corn restoring health.

Kevin Smith built a career on fan service, and Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl is as fan service-y as it gets. On its face, it’s a typical arcade beat-’em-up, but with a shiny View Askew coat of paint. If you’re looking for a solid brawler that harkens to the NES days or you’re an aficionado of Smith’s filmography, it’s easy to recommend this charming title.

While it can be frustrating at times, BIT.TRIP BEAT remains an enjoyable experience at a great price.

As a grid-based, first-person, action/adventure RPG, Vaporum: Lockdown offers plenty of gameplay elements to keep you busy. The dungeon-crawling game play is straightforward and not overly complicated, despite a good number of puzzles sprinkled in. In short, this is a solid prequel to the original Vaporum. Have fun exploring.

Headland is a simple but cute and well-made action adventure game, populated with cute characters, colourful settings and a surprisingly heart-warming message.

Vesper: Zero Light Edition might’ve needed to stay in the oven a bit longer, but there’s still a decent game here for puzzle platformer fans. The heaviness of the time-based stuff combined with fiddly Switch controls and your slow-moving android eventually takes a toll. But when the puzzle mechanic works unencumbered, it’s clever and satisfying, and the audio/visual package goes a long way. With better balancing, Cordens Interactive should have a hit with their next release.

Panic Porcupine is a fast-paced Sonic and Meat Boy mashup/clone with a fun, vintage feel. Are you looking for a relaxing game? You’ve come to the wrong place; Panic Porcupine is hard. After a while, it can feel a little repetitive too. However, it’s at least easy to pick up, feeling familiar and nostalgic. I recommend it to anyone looking for a challenge.

If the idea of a future with cyborgs and robots battling each other interests you, and you don’t mind a bit of a learning curve, then Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus is probably for you. There were times where battles felt long and drawn out and even a bit slow. A few times, battles felt overwhelmingly difficult. Fans of the Warhammer series may have a better understanding and experience with the game. Overall it was a fun playthrough and should definitely be considered for your next strategy game.

Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Editions, despite the age, still feel like more modern games. Aside from the massive amount of content, that alone makes this purchase worth it. The unique gameplay keeps these games interesting. The story and quest are enjoyable and worth a play. At the price of $49.99 it certainly worth considering since it has over two-hundred hours of gameplay available.

The shadow of a prior collection from mere months earlier, plus the fact that this is pricier (while still feeling incomplete), is tough to ignore. Yet there are still plenty of good games here, so Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection is one to grab on sale.

Layers of Fear 2 is a fun horror game that doesn’t rely on gore or violence. It focuses more on psychological terror, while also providing numerous jump scares and haunting imagery. Once you start, it’s a hard game to quit playing.

Overall, Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered, feels like a unique addition to the Nintendo Switch library, and one executed well. That said, if destruction isn’t your playstyle, this may not be the game for you. But if you are into any action or open-world games, I’d highly suggest taking a look at this port. Though, from what I’ve seen, this game doesn’t add anything new from its original release. So, it may not be worth the playthrough for someone familiar with the title already.

Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos is an open world farming game that celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Harvest Moon series. While there are cool new features that fans will enjoy, Winds of Anthos has a few issues when it comes to performance and gameplay. However, it can be a lot of fun if you’re patient enough to make it through the prologue and can get the hang of managing your energy.

The platforming action of Onion Assault is betrayed by its imprecise controls, but there’s more than enough action and fun to help players get around them. The upbeat vibe and general wackiness of combat and characters make this a good (albeit frustrating) way to kill an evening or weekend.

Akka Arrh is a great arcade throwback with some cool, vintage vibes. The cost of the game at the time this review was published is a bit more than I might jump at, but the action and trippy visuals will keep you busy testing your arcade skills for a while.

Overall, the update for Retimed wasn’t too fancy but it was just enough content to keep players coming back for more. I’m pleased with the update and will definitely go back to the game for more.

Biped is perfectly suited to the Nintendo Switch, providing plenty of fun for you and a pal, even if it’s short-lived.
