Jay and Silent Bob Mall Brawl, an all new side-scrolling brawler set in the world famous and beloved View Askewniverse, is now available as a fully functional cartridge compatible with the original NES. This cartridge is a full game playable by either one or two players!

There are three color variants available - Silent Bob Green, Jay Yellow, and NES Grey.

Each copy of Jay and Silent Bob Mall Brawl comes in a retro box that has been painstakingly crafted to be as authentic as possible. The box is printed on the same material as original retro boxes and matches the same flap design at the top. The metallic gold ink on the "Limited Run" seal has also been matched to the original seal's ink.

Included in the box is a retro manual, dust sleeve, and of course, a styrofoam block to hold the cartridge up inside the box. Each copy of the game will arrive shrinkwrapped.

The game itself was programmed by Tomas Guinan from Spoony Bard Productions.

Kevin Smith built a career on fan service, and Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl is as fan service-y as it gets. On its face, it’s a typical arcade beat-’em-up, but with a shiny View Askew coat of paint. If you’re looking for a solid brawler that harkens to the NES days or you’re an aficionado of Smith’s filmography, it’s easy to recommend this charming title.

Old-school beat 'em ups don't get much more authentic or enjoyable than Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl. Snootch to the nootch!

A really nice stop gap title until Chronic Blunt Punch arrives and decent use of an old system. A few fiddly controls, but nothing that can't be forgiven.

Remove the video game jokes and Kevin Smith references, and Jay and Silent Bob Mall Brawl is a run-of-the-mill retro beat-’em-up. There’s nothing bad about it, but it also doesn’t do anything special. As a backer bonus for Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch, it seems like a great deal. As an individual game, it’s a harder sell, but if you can recall quotes from Mallrats and still occasionally toss in a “snoogans” into everyday conversations, Mall Brawl is a good time.

Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl is tons of fun for fans of 8-bit brawlers. This is a great freebie for people who backed Chronic Blunt Punch, and for those who didn’t it’s easy to get your money’s worth from the cost of admission. As an NES beat ’em up rated E10, it’s a short title with simple gameplay and the tone is more in tune with the short-lived Clerks animated series than how Jay and Silent Bob are portrayed in Smith’s films. But that may have also been intentional since the NES did have puritan content standards that would have never allowed Jay’s rap to exist in glorious 8-bit chiptune. Either way, Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl is a fun title that retro gamers and Kevin Smith fans can enjoy while they wait for Chronic Blunt Punch or his next film.

It may not be perfect, but if you're a fan of the source material, it's well worth the price of admission. [Issue #47 – July/August 2020, p. 23]

Jay and SIlent Bob: Mall Brawl is a strong achievement, a worthy NES throwback and a fun game for Kevin Smith fans and haters alike. Unfortunately it is hamstrung by a stage so bad that it brings down the entire experience and should, quite simply, be patched out entirely or made significantly shorter and easier. Still, persevere through it and you'll find it's sandwiched with joyful 8-bit face-kicking fun with two stoner icons. The whole world's against us dude, I swear to god.

Dope little game. Can't wait for my actual cartridge!
Plays just like a NES game, but some awesome modern touches.

And THEN you beat the game and unlock hard mode. And THEN you crawl into a fetal position and contemplate what your life has become. Still worth it.

There are lots of references to both classic NES games and the Kevin Smith movies, but I think the game may be too retro for it's own good. I don't think it's worth it at $15, as there's only nine chapters (most of which are repetitive) and and you can beat the game casually in under an hour and a half. if you're a fan of NES titles and the ViewAskew universe, then by all means pick this game up. But if you're looking for a retro beat-em-up, wait until it's on sale for less than $10.
