As for the actual gameplay, much of what you'll do involves resource gathering to build things that eventually go towards helping other people.

It's just a shame that, for all this graphical and aural stimulation, the fighting mechanics are so basic.

While it may be short and sweet, it's a fine collaborative effort from Atari and Zynga, and makes for some perfect lunch-time cannon fodder.

A wonderfully addictive and gorgeous shooter that serves as a powerful showpiece for iPhone and iPad graphics. We just want more, which at the end of the day is a true testament to this game's greatness.

Mika Mobile has once again commanded our collective attention with a game that is both easy on the eyes and immensely satisfying. Buy it without hesitation and cross your fingers for plenty of free characters and levels in the future.

It's great for small bursts of play, and Survival is more fun than you might expect. It may not have the longevity of other DS titles, but for quick, easy arcade fun, this is one clone you may want to invest in.

Beach Buggy Racing is a lighthearted and fun racing game. It's very similar to Mario Kart, but its lack of multiplayer holds it back from being great.

On the positive side, Kick Buttowski is fast-paced and fun, the type of App you can whip out and score a quick fix without having to wade through cut scenes or even load times. We just wish it had a restart button mid level, ala Angry Birds, but that's a small issue compared to the game's lack of content.

Legendary Starfy is a terrific debut, despite the overly cute presentation. You'd do well to wish upon this star.

Concerns about difficulty spikes aside, this is an action strategy title that packs in a depth of tactical gameplay that you wouldn't expect from the first ten or so levels. Please do persist with it though, as hardened strategy fans will find a meaty action game beneath the shallow surface.

While Temple Run 2 is a quality product, it falls short of being groundbreaking.

Even though it's not as fast paced as other fighting games, we heartily recommend Karate Champ.

If it's fun, unique touch-screen gaming you're looking for, Yoshi certainly has the touch.

One of this year's more bizarre portable titles, not to mention one of the best.

Even if they don't, though, Burger Cat is a wonderful puzzler starring a character we hope makes a second appearance, be it sequel, spinoff or even apparel; a Burger Cat-branded chef's apron springs to mind. For now, spend the $0.99 and enjoy one of the App Store's best, and make sure you invite us over for some burgers in June.

Sniper-shooting aside, Guardian Cross doesn't do a huge amount that's different to the many other card games on the App Store. But crucially, it's polished the experience to a hitherto unseen level of refinement in its art, interface and engagement.

As cool as the game is, the App lacks the addictive quality of those match-three and falling block puzzle games. At the end of the day, we can put it down.

The best feature, though, is the option to connect with other gamers online and download their shooters. That adds limitless value to an already great product.

For a wonderfully structured free-to-play endless runner, Moby's Revenge fares well in the final analysis. There are occasional glitches and gameplay issues to get over, but everything's good overall and this is a fun game for all ages to enjoy.

Although Drawn to Life: SpongeBob Squarepants Edition is a great game for fans of the little yellow sponge, we feel it could alienate older gamers who enjoyed the premier release of the Drawn to Life series.

This game hit me with the authority of a mack truck. I did not expect it to be this captivating.

Highly recommended for being one of the best hack and slash games to hit the App Store, full of cool artwork, a rocking soundtrack and sweet monster killing gameplay. Dive into this fantasy world and bag some slugs.

The most charming aspect of Rebelstar: Tactical Command is the way it makes such great use of limited resources.

Both a triumph and a disappointment. The intriguing narrative and copycat firefights will keep you enthralled. At the same time, Gameloft blew the opportunity to do something unique, instead opting for a bunch of cliches that fail to make the game stand apart from the competition.

Overall, Grimoire of the Rift is an excellent example of quality DS gaming.

NBA 09 The Inside is a slam-dunk in almost every way.

Vice City Stories could have used some story clean-up and some tweaking to make the lock-on system work better for the user. As is, however, it's a good piece of 80's fun wrapped around an already solid engine.

If you can overcome the game's challenges - both fair and unfair - this is a very satisfying mobile shooter. Just be prepared to work a little harder than you should really have to.
