Octopath Traveler had set the bar so high in 2018 that it was not certain that its successor would manage to do as well. If it is not necessarily very daring in terms of novelties, this second opus above all strives to refine an already almost perfect formula by integrating ever more subtleties. Fascinating in terms of the scenario, the game system and the strategy resulting from the fights, the title also displays a mastery of HD-2D more fascinating than ever with striking light effects. Too bad the emotion is a little less palpable throughout the adventure.- Jeuxvideo.com

Dynasty Warriors Origins manages to make us forget the mistakes of the ninth episode to bring the saga into a new era under the sign of modernity. Thanks to rich and nervous gameplay, the fights have never been so satisfying against one or several enemies and benefit from a great variety using the eight types of weapons. The battles are also more spectacular and epic than ever against ever more numerous and lively armies. However, this does not prevent the experience from suffering from readability problems in the heart of the action. Outside of the fights, the title shines with its friendly RPG aspect and its linear way of presenting the history of the Three Kingdoms to make it more accessible. And even if we are entitled to replayability and an interesting post-game, the absence of a free mode remains a lack, especially for veterans. Despite this pitfall, Dynasty Warriors Origins has given us a great view and augurs a bright future for the franchise which has been able to bounce back.- Jeuxvideo.com

As you might expect, with The Last of Us Part 1, PlayStation and Naughty Dog have worked to faithfully recreate the basic adventure with all that that entails. On the one hand, the graphics are breathtakingly beautiful and realistic, while on the other, the levels and the gameplay are reminiscent of the 2010s. But in the end, all that's retained is the wonderful epic with Ellie and Joël, even though we already know their story. Even after ten years, The Last of Us's script and plot haven't aged a bit. It's still as strong, poignant, catchy. A steamroller such that we forget the anachronistic stylistic effects and the few flaws. More than ever, it's time to (re)discover this post-apo masterpiece.- Jeuxvideo.com

NBA 2K19 has a better career system than previous entries in the franchise with improved defense mechanisms and more intelligent gameplay. Beside some deja-vu feelings about the content, it delivers a great experience.- Jeuxvideo.com

Released raw then polished by waves of updates rich in new features, Sea of Thieves is one of the most fun multiplayer games of recent years. Intelligently relying on feedback from its community to never know the bottom of the wave, it now has the modes, features, and quests so that everyone can find something for themselves. If Rare's software encourages deceit, the British studio has not made fun of us over the last six years! Packed with things to do, with a superb atmosphere, SoT is also demanding, even slightly unfair when the precarious alliances evaporate like grog on the sand. But that’s also why we love it.- Jeuxvideo.com

By offering a realistic look at war by positioning yourself at the head of a group of civilians trying to survive, This War of Mine offers a different approach to survival games but does not avoid some pitfalls. Admittedly, the game mechanics are always the same and can quickly tire you. In addition, certain aesthetic choices somewhat taint the visibility of the infiltration phases and the writing is sometimes clumsy. But it would be criminal not to salute a game which manages to convey a strong message, which knows how to place the player in front of his own conscience at all times without falling into voyeurism or bad taste. A devilishly interesting experience.- Jeuxvideo.com

We had a feeling when we got our hands on it last September, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is as imperfect as it is most certainly one of the best role-playing games of the end of the year. Ten years after the Inquisition episode, the BioWare studio proves to us that it still has an undeniable talent for creating characters, bringing them to life and taking us into a rich and living world. However, the construction of its scenario is not revolutionary and its gameplay, as correct as it is, risks dividing the community. Fortunately, the writing, the subjects and the themes behind this fourth chapter make it a great adventure. We have been thinking about it often since September but, after this test, we are not about to forget it. The expectations were perhaps too high but it was worth the ten-year wait.- Jeuxvideo.com

Upon its 1.0 release, Arknights Endfield already offers a solid foundation to compete alongside open-world gacha giants like Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves. With its sleek industrial aesthetic, dynamic tactical combat, and original factory system, Gryphline's title has a strong enough identity to stand out. However, you'll need some patience to fully appreciate the game's potential due to its technical jargon, numerous tutorials, and sometimes overwhelming menus. Of course, gacha games are ultimately judged in the long run, but at launch, Arknights Endfield offers a high-quality experience with enough content to be worth your time if you're willing to invest in it. The question remains whether Gryphline will succeed in building on this promising start with future updates.- Jeuxvideo.com

With Unicorn Overlord, Vanillaware once again displays its mastery by tackling a new genre. The tactical aspect of the battles displays a more than impressive density and know-how which will speak to fans of the turn-based tactical role-playing game genre. The essential is not everything. It is also through the exploration side that the title is pleasant to play and that the gameplay loop is addictive! On the other hand, the writing and the plot are not the strong points of the title since they never really manage to take off. If Unicorn Overlord has very different characteristics from its JRPG companions released before it in 2024 (FF7: Rebirth, Granblue Fantasy Relink or Persona 3 Reload), it nevertheless displays the same quality of finish by being an excellent game.- Jeuxvideo.com

Forget the bad tongues, Genshin Impact is, a year later, a staple of the genre. Very (very!) Generous in content, with sublime graphics and incredible staging, MiHoyo's RPG-gacha has overcome our preconceptions to become a game of rare quality, whatever the platform on which you are evolving. Complete, and endowed with an exciting universe on condition of not being totally allergic to the "kawaïsque" atmosphere, Genshin Impact has not finished surprising us, in fact justifying a higher rating than originally.- Jeuxvideo.com
