Editing the GTA formula has been done with love and care. Playing with no less than three main characters works well in every thinkable way, and after finishing the compelling and sharply written story, there’s enough to do in the wide world of Los Santos and environment. GTA 5 simply offers an ambitious, successful experience of a rare quality level.

For any gamer that views Ocarina of Time as the highlight of the franchise, Breath of the Wild is a very pleasant surprise. The innovations Nintendo offers are -nearly all- amazing and Hyrule is more appealing and grandiose than ever before.

This game is not for everybody, but this is not the full simulator people might have expected. You can do that if you want, but you have a choice to just go through the sixty hour story. Whichever you may choose: take your time.

The impressive GTA V has extra impact now that it has landed on next gen consoles. The locations in the game have always been eye candy and the visual upgrade offers even more depth. The first person mode is a spectacular addition.

Super Mario Odyssey simply breathes fun and excitement. It is not the most innovative Mario game of all time, but the amount of creativity and happiness that is put into this game makes up for that.

We have been kept waiting for very long, but GTA 5 for PC really is the best version of the game. It offers the same ingenious story of three characters, plus the online mode with Heists, more music and a very good optimisation. Definitely worth the wait.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves delivers! The singleplayer experience is superb and it looks absolutely fabulous. The characters are very realistic, thanks to the amazing voice acting. And besides that, there are a lot of cool scenes and it has a very fun multiplayer mode. Must have!

Mass Effect 2 is an awesome RPG set in an amazing universe. The story is compelling, the characters throughout the adventure come to life and every battle you encounter is a treat to play. It’s the adventure of a lifetime!

LittleBigPlanet is the culmination of every aspect ever associated with the term ‘next-gen’. The game revolves around fun, but also impresses from both an artistic and a technological point of view. The endless possibilities it offers in terms of playing and creating, mixed with the cute Sackboys and ultra-hip overall look, turn LittleBigPlanet into what could very well be a milestone in gaming history.

Red Dead Redemption perfectly captures the essence of the old West, in a way Rockstar Games does best. Although they didn’t quite nail the Honor/Fame-system and some side missions tend to become tedious after a while, this is the best Western game I ever played and arguably the best game this year.

The Last of Us offers a bitter and horrifying look at humanity after a ‘zombie apocalypse’. It's an emotional journey that’ll touch you, without a doubt. But it doesn’t only have a strong story: the constant tension, great gameplay scenario’s and atmosphere make for a brilliant combination of elements that I can easily recommend to any gamer.

The Last of Us Remastered honors its own name. It runs more smoothly, is prettier and has more content. The technical improvements and the Photo Mode make sure that The Last of Us comes into its own even more, while Left Behind on PlayStation 3 already proved that downloadable content can be of value. The small imperfections are still here and it’s unfortunate that the PlayStation 4 isn’t pushed to the limit. Despite all this, Remastered is the best version of an already incredible game.

If you ever played a shooter and liked it, buy this game!

Persona 4: Golden is amazing. The story is great, combat system endlessly interesting, characters are all well done, there's tons to do and it's received some improvements regarding the original. It's also pretty accessible for a JRPG. It might be fantastic, but it never gets ridiculous. Do yourself a favor and pick this game up.

Persona 5 is more than a mix of life sim and JRPG: the game combines everything to tell an amazing story. Persona-fans expect this already, but Persona 5 takes things to the next level thanks to its intimate atmosphere.

Gears of War 2 is one big roller coaster ride full of impressive moments. When the ride ends, there’s still the vast array of multiplayer possibilities to be discovered. The core gameplay of Gears of War remains intact, and some minor bugs I encountered lower the score a little bit, but don’t let that keep you away of this shining masterpiece.

Storywise we are not loving Metal Gear Solid 5, but we tend to forget about it when we play through tens of hours of challenging gameplay. This legend ends with a bang; Snake has never had so much freedom in such an immense world that keeps on surprising.

We could not have wished for a better end to the series. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End offers action, humour and gorgeous graphics, combined with new gameplay elements that really feel very natural to the series. There is so much love put into the game, and it pays off: this is an excellent way to end this legendary series.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the ultimate Smash Bros. The huge amount of characters offers a great combination of cool newcomers and fun retro characters.

Inside is a short but amazing trip through a broken world. It offers not only entertaining and logical puzzles, but also a story that is as tragic as it is bizarre. The fluent animations are the cherries on top of this tasty platform cake.

This is the best game you can play on Xbox One. The game might hold your hand a bit too long, that is just a minor thing considering the great racing adventure Forza offers.

God of War III ends with a bang. The trilogy end contains pretty much everything that you’ve come to expect from the series with a few surprises along the way. We wish there were a little more titan battles but overall the story of Kratos gets a worthy ending.

Bloodborne has a lot of similarities with Dark Souls, but it will surprise you as you will need to make changes to survive Yharnam. Without losing depth, this game offers a high gameplay speed. We enjoy the great level design, the subtle story and the city. The only issue we have encountered were frame rate drops and long loading times.

Celeste is an amazing platformer with tight gameplay, a good storyline and many many challenging levels. Celeste offers many different ways of getting to understand the extreme difficulty levels.

Super Street Fighter IV brings more, but not enough to justify the game if you already own Street Fighter IV.

The Witcher 3 is much more sloppy and than expected, and the graphic quality of the Northern Kingdoms is a disappointment. However, the game is still so good that we accept these issues. This fantasy world is great, offers plenty of detail and keeps pulling you back in.

Forza Motorsport 3 is the racing game of the year and the most advanced racer ever. The game has a numerous kind of depth and stays very accessible. Forza Motorsport 3 is the cutest girl of the classroom, but the collision detection isn’t always that great and a little odd. Still, Forza Motorsport 3 is great in everything is does.

Batman proves himself in this fantastic game. It is more then a good license game, it is a must have!

Fire Emblem: Awakening will have you taking your Nintendo 3DS everywhere, so you can take a few more steps while on your way to work for instance. It manages to grab players from start to finish and got me bummed out when having finished it. I'm jealous of those who still have the joy of discovering it because I'm positive that they'll have tons of fun with it. Fire Emblem: Awakening is for the 3DS what Advance Wars was for the GBA: a must-have.

At times The Walking Dead feels as poorly built as the average zombie, but at its best moments this comic-based game is a true emotional roller coaster. You get attached to the different characters, which makes the grueling decision you'll have to make that much more impactful.

Divinity Original Sin is a very loved game among fans of strategic RPG's. Larian Studios sets the bar even higher with this game, as you have even more races and classes to choose from, without losing the atmosphere of the original.

Super Smash Bros. on Wii U is pure Nintendo magic and it is a lot better than its 3DS brother. The fighting system is challenging and for every element in this game there is a wide range of options. We would have liked a real single-player mode, but the multiplayer is so good: this is the Wii U game to get this season.

As a devote Chrono Trigger fan myself I have to admit that Chrono Trigger DS could have used some more improvements than just some touchscreen controls, an extra dungeon and a monster battle system. Still, this remains one of the best games ever made, and newcomers to the game should definitely pick it up right away. The way the compelling story, interesting characters, inspiring music and great gameplay are combined into one game, is something that RPGs to date haven't easily surpassed.

Rock Band 2 is a great follow-up to an already good game. The improved track list and World Tour mode, and the implementation of some interesting new options make for a great sequel.

This is the best Mario Kart ever. It has only tweaked the original a little bit, but the game looks a lot better on Switch.

Rayman: Legends continues where its predecessors left off, and does so magically. The levels revolve around tempo and timing, are dynamic, keep renewing themselves and the difficulty level is slowly amped up throughout the game. And at the end of every setting, there’s a phenomenally good musical level. If you have the luxury of buying the Wii U version: do so. The Murphy levels make excellent use of the Gamepad.

Metroid Prime: Trilogy contains the kind of games you want to be remade. Three fantastic games in one pack, with the new way of controller them and with some neat extra’s. It’s a deal you don’t want to miss.

Bayonetta 2 is not subtle and has too many cutscenes. But, the fighting is a lot more straightforward than in other hack and slashers and the flawless design plus the amazing detail convince us that Bayonetta 2 is an excellent game in its genre.

Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Give a man Ridiculous Fishing and he’ll never feel the need to eat again, simply because fishing, shooting and buying upgrades is incredibly tight in this game. Ridiculous Fishing is part of the best iOS has to offer.

FIFA 10 is a soccer game that needs no more training. The mistakes made in FIFA09 are polished away and some of the important game elements – to especially realistic soccer lovers – are refined. EA has done everything to make this game the best soccer game of the year.

Forget Jerusalem and forget Altaïr. Ezio's adventure in Renaissance Italy is better in every aspect! Both Florence and Venice are enormous living cities with an fantastic atmosphere, and even the smaller cities are wonderful to walk and climb through. There is only one big rotten apple: Italy's wonderful capital city Rome is the smallest location in the entire game.

Blizzard's first shooter is as accessible as it is competitive, which is an excellent combination. It does not matter what type of gamer you are, you will love Overwatch, too. The Heroes are extremely cool, their abilities are versatile and playing in teams is amazing.

The surroundings are a lot better than Forza Horizon 2, and it's no longer necessary to go all the way to another city to start a new race. Every location feels like a game in itself and that makes the game much more sensational and swift.

It remains so close to the original that all weaknesses - despite the improvements - are still present. Once again, it turns out that every work of art has its imperfections.

The great graphics, the very smart AI, the mind-blowing physics and the multiplayer mode you can play for months combined make Killzone 2 a true FPS-classic.

The missing maps and lesser graphics don't affect the core of XCOM. It can easily keep you occupied for twenty hours or more on the iPad, even if you've played the game on other platforms before. A great game gone mobile.

Batman proves himself in this fantastic game. It is more then a good license game, it is a must have!

A Link Between Worlds might be the best Zelda in recent years. By diverting from the standard formula by letting you rent items and even decide in which order you go through all of the dungeons, known elements finally feel fresh again.

Resident Evil 2 is an excellent remake that takes great stuff from the original and adds something to that. It does make the game pretty different, but that works.

Dark Souls 2 is more and better. Enemies are smarter, and there's a wealth of bosses to find. Drangleic is an immense, beautiful world, amazing design, although it disappoints graphically. Fortunately there's so much content to discover that you'll hardly have time to occupy yourself with that.

Bayonetta is the perfect evolution of Devil May Cry. The controls are awesome and we love the combo's. And let's not forget the bosses, which are perfect examples of the quality of the game!

Far Cry 3 is the best and most enthralling open world shooter in the last couple of years. It beautifully displays the contrast of an island like Rook Island: at beautiful and peaceful moments, at brutal and intense moments. Despite some technical mishaps, the game manages to entertain throughout.

There is so much to tell about Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, but words can’t come close to what is so special about this pearl of a RPG. The only thing not so great about this game are the long fights, but that is compensated by the funny dialogs and the action packed fighting system. It’s a good choice to give Bowser a place in the spotlights, because steeling the show seem to fit him very well. It is the comeback of 2009!

The Lost and Damned is a great expansion for the Grand Theft Auto-series. The setting of the game is enjoyable; the same goes for the city. The city is still a great and beautiful place to cruise through. When you are getting bored rolling down the same street over and over again, you’ll find that the story in the DLC is pretty interesting. Although some parts of the story don’t fill-in the blank spots, it is still a great game that keeps you almost ten hours of the real streets.

The Wind Waker HD is a fantastic remake. Lovers of the original can enjoy the visuals and improved gameplay to their hearts content, including the extra tough Hero Mode. New players can get ready for an amazing adventure that they'll cherish for a long while after playing.

Fez belongs in everyone’s collections. It’s one of the most stylish games of recent years and doesn’t lose its grip of you after your first step in the world. Playing with the 3D block world is still surprising and entertaining, even though the game is two years old by now.

Persona is a RPG with a strong story, a decent battle system and interesting characters. It is also a lot of fun to upgrade your Persona’s and other abilities. The game starts a bit slow, but is really hard to let go when the story unfolds. Persona 4 is a game that will bring back life in the good old PlayStation 2.

Sneaking, killing and disappearing. Rarely has the work of a ninja been incorporated into a game this well. The dark style, the tension of escaping the guards and loads of variation make Mark of the Ninja an awesome start to a fall filled with blockbusters.

Rockstar has given all, to deliver the complete experience of Chinatown Wars on the PSP and succeeded to do that. The game looks great and the extra missions are bringing more variation to the game. The story has less dept then other GTA-games en that is being hided well by the humour in the game. The minigames don’t come to there right without the touchscreen, but that doesn’t matter. Chinatown Wars is still a great game, which keeps you busy for a long time.

After many attempts, Monster Hunter World is the first Monster Hunter game we would recommend to every gamer. It is amazing how much bigger and more intuitive this game is, without getting overly easy.

There is so much to write about Guild Wars 2, so much to see and so much to discover. Reading a review won't do the game justice, you'll have to discover the magical world of Tyria for yourself. Be surprised at how simple, yet amazingly complex a world can be. And above all: you can leave your credit card safely tucked away in your wallet, because monthly costs is one of the few things Guild Wars 2 does not have.

The legacy of Dark Souls force us to compare. Sekiro definitely misses out on adventure and replayability, as well as aesthetic creativity. However, any other part of the game is just amazing.

GTA IV delivers on the PC, as it did on the next-gen consoles. The game breathes quality from start to finish. The story remains interesting and entertaining, visually it’s a new milestone in the series, and the gameplay just as good as it was on the console. The added video-editor and extended multiplayer-modes make for an even more complete experience, which no PC-gamer should be allowed to miss.

This is the best Total War game thanks to all the little tweaks. Sometimes little differences make a good game great. The battles ask of you that you think more about your actions and managing your empire never was easier. The sea battles are fun to watch, but are a little hard to control. Nevertheless, Empire: Total War is a game that can make you forget about the time.

Borderlands is an amazing collection of bizarre weaponry, hectic fights and great humour. The different environments, crazy weapons and unique skills keep the game fresh from start to finish. The game might have been better off with a slightly lower pace when playing alone, but this is easily outweighed by the fun you'll have when playing with a friend. If you're going to buy just one cooperative game this year, let it be Borderlands 2.

Majora's Mask still feels like the original. The dark style, playing around with time and masks that give the typical Zelda gameplay a twist are things to love about this game. However, we don't feel that 3DS is the ideal platform for this remake.

Demon's Souls is an amazingly deep RPG which every true gamer will fall in love with. The high addiction factor will make you put hour after hour into this unique adventure. But especially the mysterious atmosphere, crazy challenging gameplay and grand bosses make this game an experience for which you'll sell your soul to the devil.

Rez: Infinite is already awesome, but the VR experience makes it so much better. Without any distractions you can see, hear and feel Rez Infinite. Amazing.

Dark Souls III is the best that the genius, yet twisted brain of Hidetaka Miyazaki has to offer. This might feel like the Dark Souls game you already played before, but then optimized, smoother and visually more spectacular. Expect epic bossfights, a mysterious story and constant excitement.

The Ballad of Gay Tony is a fantastic add-on. The game delivers a great story, strong characters and cool missions. Furthermore the game is coming with new weapons and a solid playtime. For twenty bucks your busy for a while.

Tetris Effect impresses by giving a classic a twist by not changing the gameplay, but the presentation. It is simply mesmerizing and super original.

Although battles still feel the same before, all the systems around them have undergone huge changes. You can spend hours refining your school class and perfecting strategies. A game to keep you truly busy this summer.

Dreams is ultimately something different for everyone and it is impressive how cleverly everyone's part of the game is put together. Those who dare to dream with an open mind can find an endless source of entertainment, gentleness, and genius in this "game".

Building your own Outer Heaven adds a nice RPG-element and the cooperative mode is a blast to play with friends. The only slight issue the game has is that the boss battles towards the end are extremely difficult.

Battlefield 1 has a few small errors, but you will hardly notice them as scale of the online action is so big. Finally even online play is impressive, which makes Battlefield 1 the best Battlefield-game in years.

Giant Sparrow offers a masterpiece. This game is made perfectly and makes us feel so many different emotions at once. What Remains of Edith Finch is surely phenomenal.

Dishonored is an amazing game, but has its lesser moments. The ingenuity and creativity that can be used by the player is nothing short of spectacular at times and the steam punk style fits the world perfectly. On the other hand the developer could have spent more time on storytelling and the game has some technical faults. Because of this Dishonored never really lives up to its full potential.
