Touhou Genso Wanderer was a really good roguelike on the PS4 already and the added content and portability aspect of the Switch makes this the definitive version of Touhou Genso Wanderer by far. If you’ve been craving your Mystery Dungeon and Shiren fix on Switch, this is the game to get.

Mugsters is a game for people who enjoy puzzle games without much flair or fanfare about them. The emphasis is clearly on the puzzles themselves and, despite a few stumbles, Mugsters proves to be an entertaining game that’s easy to come back to and somewhat difficult to put down; and with a decent amount of levels, with multiple objectives in each, you’ll be spending quite some time getting lost.

Bomb Chicken is a fun little platformer that doesn't quite manage to balance its difficulty consistently throughout its entirety. Simple mechanics and an adorable fat hen do mean though that you'll have a good time for the most part.

Octopath Traveler feels like a gem from the golden age of JRPGs that is something I've been craving with stunning visuals, music that deserves a vinyl release, and so much more.

The best part is that this is a great game to play on the go, the levels are short enough to crack out a couple on a short commute or loads on a long one, and they’re packed with extra challenges that take little time to accomplish as well. Yes there are some problems with the transition from machine to machine(s), but this is still a very welcome return of this brand of puzzle-action.

Shining Resonance Refrain isn’t a terrible game, it’s just riddled with incredibly poor decisions which almost overshadow a great combat system.

Despite being nine years old, this remaster makes Red Faction Guerrilla look almost new. With its fantastic GeoMod 2.0 engine, the mayhem and destruction hasn’t lost any of its appeal, though its PS4 Pro “high quality” mode is in dire need of optimisation.

The Spectrum Retreat is a solid puzzler, with an immersive narrative undercurrent adding depth and emotion to a genre where such things are normally lacking. Look past certain repetitive sections and you'll find a title offering value for money and an enjoyable challenge.

While Pode can be frustrating in it’s lack of communication it is a rather beautiful thing when experienced with others.

A disappointing sequel that fails to recapture the magic of its predecessor.

A poorly written game with gameplay that feels stiff and archaic, along with endless waves of enemies that take far too long to beat.

While it certainly improves upon the original in many ways, The Crew 2 is a step backwards overall. Its rubberband AI is some of the worst in recent memory and its version of America feels empty, not at all like Forza Horizon, the game it really wants to be.

If you bought the original and played it, you need this port. If you’ve played The Banner Saga on another system and want to get the sequel, the Switch or iPad version is my recommendation. These kinds of games are best on portables and the Switch even gives you the flexibility of playing on TV if you want to do so.

The Lost Child is a good dungeon crawler but there are so many better ones. Kadokawa’s production values shine with gorgeous character art, great music, and even the voice acting. I wish they had gotten Experience Inc. to do the actual dungeon design.

Overall, the toning down of some effects and lighting would have been more palatable if the image quality itself was good. The visuals look a bit too soft in both handheld and docked mode in the current state. Thankfully, I ran into no trouble playing the games on either mode and have been enjoying them. I think they hold up great and are a lovely addition to the Switch platformers available.

With content from both movies, plus a tonne of extra stuff included in a fun open world, LEGO The Incredibles offers a great adventure for fans of both the Pixar franchise and LEGO games. For everyone else, it may show that the LEGO games are growing a bit tired.

Lumines Remastered is a welcome return of the stress-free puzzler, turn on, tune in and drop out.

Arcade racers are seeing a resurgence of late and Wreckfest fits nicely into that sub-genre, bringing banger racing into the limelight and turning it up to eleven. It may not be named Destruction Derby, but the spirit of the old Psygnosis classic is alive and well in Bugbear’s latest racer.

It is a polished and fun rhythm game that I can safely recommend to any fans of the genre. I know it is unlikely given the interface but I’d love for a control option for docked mode players to be added in the future.

A must play on Switch. It includes all content released post launch for the PC version right from the get go. Team Cherry has done a superb job and once those issues are ironed out, this will be a perfect version of a fantastic game.

It looks gorgeous on the Switch, both in handheld and when docked, and all of the gorgeous artwork stuns with every scene. It is the music, however, that stands out amongst everything else. Each boss has a song to accompany it, and every song in the game is catchy, with great lyrics that compliment the writing of the entirety of Figment. I adore this game, and with the ability to take it on your travels I’d highly recommend you play this now.

Overall, this has a few slowdown issues but the ability to play with both touch and button controls in addition to being able to play it anywhere makes this the definitive version of the game for me.

This is one of the easiest games to recommend to rhythm game fans. I still think Superbeat Xonic is a better overall game for newcomers to the genre, but rhythm fans are likely going to get all the games anyway and this is well worth the money.

ICEY on Switch is a great port. While I may sound like a broken record for wanting touch screen support for the UI, the real big missing feature here is video recording. Games like this that have you feeling like a badass in combat should have video recording so those special moments can be shared easily.

Overall, if you want to play Ys VIII on TV, get the PS4 version by far. The Switch visuals are inconsistent and the framerate isn’t stable in some situations. The drop to 30fps would’ve been fine if it looked better but the variable resolution makes it look quite ugly in some situations. Shadow flickering is a big annoyance. On the portable side of things, this is better than playing on Vita in every aspect but shadows.

The Adventures of Captain Spirit is an interesting way to generate interest in the Life is Strange sequel. Chris and his alter-ego is a likeable little boy trying to navigate a childhood filled with both imaginary and real-life monsters.

It's a great way to get involved in TESO, and even though there's not a lot of new stuff it's still worth giving it a go.

Octo Expansion does what it needs to by keeping Splatoon 2 fresh.
