Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 goes for a family-friendly approach that works, but can't compete with the fun of the Mario & Sonic titles.

A Journey's End is a lacklustre ending to Minecraft: Story Mode and further reinforces the idea that the series should have stopped after episode four or five.

It’s the same game as it was back then. Playing on the Switch allows you to play with it anywhere, especially if you’re midway through one of the frustrating boss fights. It doesn’t quite look as good as when it’s docked, but the game is still vibrant and lovely to look at. If you want something that reminds you what the 80s were like, and fancy a game that fully embraces the notion of retro, Crossing Souls is the embodiment of it.

Chinatown Detective Agency is sometimes a little too clever for its own good, but it's well written and charming with it. If you can overlook the issues with the save system, it's well worth a look.

The general presentation isn't anything special, the responsiveness isn't as tight as I'd hoped, and the music featured does nothing to make me feel motivated whilst training, however, there's still a solid fitness experience that'll appeal to a lot of people who need that extra push over the Christmas period.

Star Wars Battlefront II is a good video game, it delivers a fun campaign that allows you to act out pretty much all your Star Wars fantasies.

Whilst there are some changes, it doesn't feel that different from last year, and the technical issues hinder enjoyment somewhat.

While it lasts, this set of clever puzzles is a pleasant little time-waster. Sometimes it is better for a game to be over too early rather than too late, but that is only partly the case here.

Foul Play is a novel idea which takes an age old mechanic and twists into something new and unique, and its great theatre aesthetic and witty humour are both enjoyable to behold. However, repetitive combat plagued by difficulty spikes, and constant saving issues, left a slightly sour taste in the mouth.

EA delivers on a truly dynamic, next gen hockey experience in NHL 25, but neglects the modes that bookend the package.

The Sims 4 is a compelling game with tonnes of customisable options. Sadly, poor attention to the functionality of playing with a controller rather than keyboard and mouse, and a sparse tutorial make this version difficult to overly recommend.

Given that the PS4 version is 1080p 60fps, I wasn’t really shocked to see this half the frame rate but what impressed me a lot is how well it runs and how good it looks on the Switch. There’s a demo you can check out for an idea of the performance but with the latest patch allowing for no save overwriting, Nine Parchments on Switch is an easy recommendation for a co-op game.

If you’re looking for something to take up ten minutes of your time and you’re having one of those days where nothing is going your way then hop aboard the Kirby Fighting Deluxe train. If you are looking for a fighting game where you can “smash” the opposition, then other games are available, although I’m not giving you any clues as to what they are.

If you can push through some frustrating moments during the opening hour, Black The Fall offers challenging puzzles with a thought-provoking narrative.

Soaring through Hell thanks to the wings on your back adds another element to your A-to-B arsenal, however the repetition on offer stifles flight.

What’s most irritating is that there is simply no real reason to purchase this DLC. Granted, if you loved Lords of Shadow 2’s gameplay, then here’s a few hours more to enjoy, but it just feels like a purchasable fetch quest that doesn’t really feel like it adds anything to what we’ve already played and seen.

A more structured and restricting experience than New Leaf, Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer offers similarly addictive mechanics but much less freedom and control.

If you’re willing to overlook some blurry visuals and get down to the serious business of racing you’ll find that there’s still a lot to love here and, for a launch title, it’s an impressive first outing for racing games on PSVR.

Despite adding a bit extra to this year’s career mode, there are some technical issues that plague the experience. Shame really, because NASCAR Heat 2 can be quite fun at times.

Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs Forgotten is a perfectly serviceable RPG, but with so many great alternatives it's hard to recommend.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing takes its influences from the best, and although it can’t match that high quality, this Extended Edition is the best version of NeoCore’s action RPG. Worth playing.

King Oddball is a fairly large package and, although it certainly is odd, it doesn’t do enough to be truly interesting, and despite a lot of levels and some decent physics, it’s not particularly captivating.

Digital tabletop games are a great idea, but Ogre is simply too harsh for anyone but the most stubborn of players, thanks to some of the worst RNG I’ve seen. When played with friends however, it shows how good the game could have been.

Beat Cop is a relentless time management game where writing tickets and arresting perps is set against a background of sleaze and corruption.
