Behind the warm and inviting visuals lies a treacherously difficult platform game. But Donkey Kong Country Returns is as fun as it is hard, and goes to show that the old school 2D platformer is alive and well. There are plenty of gimmicks and new ideas along the way to keep things fresh, and the graphics are absolutely gorgeous.

Ascension delivers on everything that has made the series great. Solid single-player and jaw dropping graphics. Kratos is as angry as ever and the mythological creatures are huge and impressive as we have come to expect. Add a fun multiplayer with tons a gameplay and we have another winner.

The single-player campaign is fairly short, but excellent multiplayer makes up for it. Lots of variation and solid RTS gameplay for anyone who makes it past the embarrassingly bad first act. A return to form for the series.

We do not miss Cole, even if Delsin is an annoying brat. When you finally climb up the Space Needle it gives you a brilliant view and shows of the amazing visuals of one of the best looking games on the PS4. A Worthy installment in a great sandbox series.

TT Games have clearly understood the criticism that's been aimed at their games of late, and Lego Batman 2 is without a doubt the best experience I've ever had with any of the Lego games.

Ratchet & Clank Trilogy offers no surprises, and if you own any of the other HD Collections, you know exactly what you're in for. Nevertheless, all three games are fun, surprisingly good looking and immensely playable, making this package a treat for all fans of the series.

Top Spin 4 is a pleasure to play, not only for tennis fans but for any gamer who enjoys good multiplayer. It has everything that makes the genre great, makes a couple of smart additions, and ends up as the best tennis game to date. And it's accessible enough that anyone with a modicum of interest in the sport can play along.

Just like previous entries in the series, Marvel vs Capcom 3 doesn't care too much about balance, which is to say that this might not be a game for dedicated Street Fighter fans. What it is, though, is a chaotic fighting where pyrotechnincs, special abilities and a wide selection of characters always fill up every inch of the screen. And it's highly entertaining all the way to the annoying end boss, who as it often is with fighting games is the absolute weakest part of an otherwise very solid and entertaining effort.

The PC-version has already been showered with praise, and most of it applies to the Xbox 360 outing as well. Runic Games have done a fantastic job of adapting the game to the console. The framerate gets choppy when a lot of monsters are on screen, but otherwise Torchlight is a very strong Diablo clone, and definately the best of its kind on Xbox.

Infamous 2 is certainly a good game, but in its attempts to go bigger and better on all fronts, it misses out on some of the things that made the first one so special. It tries to do too many things, and ends up being a somewhat uneven albeit still very entertaining experience.

The unique style and setting of Double Fine's matryoshka-based Stacking provides plenty of fun and challenging puzzles and tasks. It's polished, detailed and filled charm and inventivesness. There may not be a lot left to do after you've collected everything there is to collect, but if you enjoy clever puzzles and original designs, don't miss out on Stacking.

The production values are incredible. This is truly an amazing game to look at. This time around the story feels a bit more like something you could get away with if it was a tv-series - too many loose ends and not something that fits a game release schedule. Drake is still great to look at, and the multiplayer is a blast. And you know more than anyone if that is enough for you.

Two Worlds II is a solid role playing game that improves on its predecessor in every way. It's filled to the brim with entertainment and atypical situations that will keep you glued to your seat. While it's certainly not without flaws, the many good parts more than make up for it.

Bejeweled is as addictive as ever, and the new Quest game mode keeps the experience fresh and varied. Popcap have reinvented their classic and made it into their most enticing package yet.

While it may initially feel wildly different than other stables in the genre, the combat system of Blazblue: Continuum Shift quickly reveals itself to be logical, intuitive and in possesion of enormous depth. The mix of 2D fighters and 3D backgrounds is a little jarring, but otherwise Blazblue is a rock-solid fighter that plays as well as the household names.

Playing Quake on a console might seem like blasphemy, but this modern Xbox port of the 11 year old Quake III Arena plays much better than you'd expect. In a time where military shooters dominate the online space, playing some oldschool deathmatch is incredibly refreshing. Quake has aged well, and this version offers plenty of content and entertainment without having to rely on nostalgia.

One of those rare cases where a game manages to create a unique experience by adding a physical object to it, rather than something that just seems gimmicky.

A blast for anyone who's spent a few too many hours on Tower Defense games or hunting that elusive piece of magical equipment with their friends.

Old-school sidescrolling shooter that will certainly appeal to nostalgics, but is definately not for everyone. It's insanely difficult, but if you loved this type of game on the old 16 bit consoles, it's well worth a look.

If you like Harvest Moon then this is the game for you. Lots of freedom only hampered by an annoying camera. Not an original game by any means, but an enjoyable experience nonetheless.

Easily one of the best platformers available on iOS. It’s both charming and brilliantly designed, and manages to make one of the most troubled genres on touch-devices work beautifully.

A cute and charming puzzle platformer that will severely test your mind bending abilities. It's among the more expensive PS Minis titles, but well worth the price for the hours of entertainment and puzzling it provides. Highly recommended.

Essentially it’s just the Everybody’s Golf series reskinned with the usual Mario cast, but that can certainly provide for an enjoyable and relaxed golfing experience.

Trine 2 builds upon all the qualities of the first game and expands the formula with more creativity and multiplayer fun. The balancing could be better, but that doesn't change the fact that Trine 2 is a highly entertaining adventure with beautiful visuals.

A clever puzzle game with solid mechanics that cements Chillingo's position as one of the iOS heavyweights.

Plays like a simpler version of Infinity Blade, but with a little less finesse and feelings of grandeur. For bat fans, however, there's no doubt that the experience of beating baddies up as Gotham's no. 1 vigilante is a lot more satisfying.

Spec Ops: The Line is a solid shooter that may not do anything particularly new from a pure gameplay perspective, but it's wrapped up in an engaging story that will keep you glued to the screen.

Despite the paper thin story and the fact that the basic gameplay is still pretty much a carbon copy of the very first Pokémon game, Pokémon Black/White 2 is a feast of delicious new content for all fans of the series.
