Meg’s Monster is a great 2D pixel-style action-adventure game that has you exploring the underworld to help this lost human child get back to her mother. With a great story and battle mechanics it is sure to make you smile.

Well Keeper is a game that feels like it’s straight out of a storybook, with you playing as a cute mouse that flaps its ears to fly. It can be frustrating but feels very rewarding.

Until I Have You is really fun game with minor issues regarding the pace of its dialogue.

A great spaceship combat game which feels like a slower, more meaningful MOBA.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is a great addition to the series, with a large cast of fighters and accessible controls that let you pull off big attacks with ease.

A super fun and addictive game, even for those who don't usually play real time tower defense games.

Indies’ Lies is a great game for those who want to get into roguelike deck building games, while veterans of the genre will find the ability to better control their build a nice feature to experiment with, without sacrificing the fun of RNG.

A great little twin-stick shooter that wears its inspiration on its sleeves but backs it up with challenging wave based fun that might easily become an addiction as you try to work your way up the leaderboards.

It has plenty to do, and it’s (usually) easy to find something interesting made by the creative player base. It’s not for everyone because a lot of the longevity relies on you creating your own levels, but there is plenty to play with, thanks to the community created levels.

An intriguing little game with a great setting and aesthetic, well worth experiencing blind.

Steep is a solid experience that accomplishes what the developers set out to do. They have a created an impressive world that is both fun to explore and addictive to conquer. The multiplayer feels like a bit of a letdown due to a lack of variety but it is still fun exploring the world with friends.

Soundfall is a fun rhythm game featuring a ton of songs in multiple different genres and a Free Play mode where you upload your own music to challenge, with the option to play with up to four players.

A unique take on the turn based shooter, and a fun character-driven space adventure. As a 3DS title this game is flying below the radar for now, but upon its larger release, I can see this game picking up a lot of steam. God of Weapons doesn’t offer much, but what it does offer is enough to help pass the time.

GEESE vs CTHULHU brings a charm and quirkiness to indie games similar to its renaissance in the early 2010s. It’s colourful, loud and joyous despite its occasional faults. Is it rough around the edges at times? Definitely, but it more than makes up for in creativity.

Subterfuge is a great mobile game which gives you the strategic freedom to create dastardly schemes to defeat your enemies - emulating real-world political power-struggles.

Exit the Gungeon is a solid spin-off that is able to deliver a level of enjoyment that matches its predecessor, while also standing tall on its own two feet.

Studio Sott has managed to create a short game filled with wonderful characters and atmosphere. This brilliantly realised story reminds me of The Shining but filled with Mr Men. While Hotel Sowls doesn’t innovate the basic point and click formula, it fills it with quality content and a surrealist vibe that really elevates itself. It’s just a bit short.

Although it sometimes pushes the boundaries of adventurous puzzle solving too far, venturing into occasionally absurd degrees of vagueness, moon has generally stood the test of time, managing to still provide an inspired and novel romp through a perplexing world of quirky characters even after two decades.

A short but fun platforming experience. Explore a castle; fight goblins; even play as a dog that collects bacon! There are a few flaws in certain areas, but as a whole this is a fine game.

All in all, Rebel Cops is a blast to play, and feels like a great modification to the This Is The Police formula. Everything feels right, the management is fun and challenging, the story is interesting enough, and there are no bugs or glitches that I have run into thus far.

Girl Genius: Adventures in Castle Heterodyne is a great game for fans of the comics and a good time for those who haven’t read it yet. It’s like a good PlayStation 2 game from back in the day.

A well-made game for fans of the bullet-hell genre, with a rich narrative for lore lovers and physical proof that you can make anything with time, patience and money for a professional composer.

I went into Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel Review quite skeptical at first, but what met me was a solid fighting game. The story is a big naff, but it looks great and plays well. That's all you need from a fighting game right?

A fantastic adventure with some at-times brain bending puzzles that stays remarkably true to the original game. Some minor technical issues mar the experience slightly but it’s a great return for Foster and Joey.

Inklings really is a great modern puzzle game. Whether you’ve been itching for more Lemmings, or just a new puzzle game that’ll make you think, this is definitely something you should check out. While it may look like a rip-off of a classic series, it adds its own flair to both the gameplay and look, and deserves a spot in any puzzle-aficionado's library.

Double Dragon Raiden: Rise of The Dragons is a great beat 'em-up game that takes everything you loved about the series and adds a ton of strategy. With a great retro look and sound, this is a must-play, even though it doesn’t always explain things very well!

There are some issues, but Indiana Jones and the Great Circle does everything it needs to for me as a fan and as a gamer. However, one major bug keeps it from a perfect score in my eyes.

Battle Shapers is a really good roguelite with chaotic combat and satisfying challenges to conquer but needs some patches and more variety in its content to really push it into the realm of greatness.

Awesome little puzzler that’ll do well to keep you busy when you want it to, challenging enough that it will give even the most die-hard puzzler’s brains a workout, but clever enough to not have you needing to complete the level at a time, so you can put it down and come back to it when the thermal throttling on your brain has returned to normal.

Full motion video has certainly come a long way, and with a crazy script like Press X to Not Die, it’s simply great. Short but sweet is a phrase created to describe this game.

Wings of Endless is a great 2D platformer with RPG mechanics that looks great and has fun characters. Plus, who doesn’t want to dress up an owl?

God of War: Ragnarok is a fantastic title, building from its predecessor's already phenomenal combat, though the story wasn't everything that I hoped it would be.

Gestalt: Steam & Cinder is a gorgeous-looking metroidvania title with smooth controls and a deep story. It’s a bit short to play through, but it is an enjoyable experience.

Riddle Tower is a fun little game about solving puzzles at your own leisure. While it is simplistic, the fun challenges, creative puzzles, and seemingly passionate developer were enough to recommend.

Hands of Necromancy II feels like a classic FPS that has you using magic to battle enemies and bring the fallen ones back to life to fight with you; it’s so much fun to play!

A great collection of legitimate classics that are still fantastic fun to play. If you enjoy run and gun games and have never played the Turrican games this is the best way to experience them today.

Despite its shortcomings in terms of repetition and difficulty, SAND LAND is a very enjoyable experience that’s perfect for the casual gamer, even if you’ve never heard of the manga before.

A good visual novel and introduction to the Werewolf: The Apocalypse universe. It may be far too brief, but its replay value goes a long way towards making up for that shortcoming.

A great rally game, with an abundance of content from the last few games under Kylotonn’s licensed WRC umbrella, but may adversely suffer from being very similar in presentation to previous entries, however the sheer amount of content available should quell any of those concerns.

Far Cry Primal is able to stand out from the pack, throwing in enough new and appealing additions along the way to warrant a full-game release.

A fast-paced and exciting hell shooter, held back by some minor design decisions.

Spirit of Justice does everything you’d expect from a sequel, and whilst some issues from the past linger you’ll be too engrossed to be bothered. A great instalment for series fans and newcomers alike.

Though hampered by some feature bloat and minor technical issues, Creatures of Ava is a beautiful game about empathy and understanding. The animals are adorable, the characters are fun, and the sound design is top-notch! Yes, you can pet almost everything.

Submarines, Bionts, Dystopia and shooty shoots, what’s not to love? Buy this, slap on your cowboy hat, and stick some Linda Ronstadt on as you drive “every kind of rig that’s ever been made” in the deep blue.

There is much to learn in Fate/Samurai Remnant but the characters and gameplay loop make it worth the work.

The latest and greatest F1 game for Codemasters roster, with just enough new about it to make it an update from last years. It’ll be a hard push to see what they do for 2019, that’s for sure, but Codemasters have had a long run with the F1 license, and it doesn’t look like they’re keen to stop anytime soon.

With more in the game than the concept might suggest, this is a fun to play title and exceeded my initial expectations of how the game would be. It’s a little short and I would have liked more of it, but this is definitely worth picking up.

Marrakesh is a great episode, but it pales in comparison with the two previous ones, which feel much more dense. While it still gorgeous and full of life, certain areas feel a bit dull, just go-through areas with few to none opportunities.

Adventures of Chris doesn’t break new ground in the 2D platformer genre. Still, it provides genuine humour, personality and variety in bucketloads, all while sending a few loving glances to the 16-bit era of videogames.

Stolen Realm is a fun RPG to play with friends and by yourself, especially if you don’t have the time or resources to set an entire campaign. Make sure you know what you’re doing and you’ll come out fine.

Crawlco Block Knockers is a solid puzzle experience that captures the joy of ‘90s arcade games, all while including some tasteful artwork.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a joy to play, while there are some minor growing pains, it is more than worth your time and money.

Fun retro-styled twin-stick shooter that feels satisfying to play. Wears its early Konami inspiration on its sleeve whilst taking it to new places! Easy to recommend to shmup fans!

An interesting sequel to one of the best games of 2016, delving further into the role of government as an all-seeing eye with interesting questions about privacy and truth. Doesn’t add much to the original’s formula but still well worth playing.

Despite never watching The Smurfs, I absolutely loved the game! It’s fun, it’s gorgeous, and it’s humorous.

While it may look like a dirty cartoon, Demetrios: The BIG Cynical Adventure is endearing and eminently playable.

LEGO Party! is a fun title that has a lot of differences from other titles you have played. Some weird comments and bugs pop up, but it’s still fun to play.

Although it is barebones in some departments, the meat of Domiverse is so tasty and satisfying that I’m likely to keep coming back for more.

Momento was a delightful journey through the milestones of a life (or lives) you can shape however you want. If you’re looking for a game to scratch that Unpacking itch (with added replayability), it’s a definite recommendation from me.

Hot Wheels Let's Race: Ultimate Speed is a great arcade racer that is friendly for anyone to play, no matter the skill level. Seeing the classic vehicles made me so happy!

Like comfort food for fans who’ve loved the Underground/Most Wanted games from back in the day. The day and night system is addictive, the cars feel great and distinct, the visuals are fantastic (especially at night) and the old-school customization is back and better than ever.

GoobnBallonsDX is a great twin-stick shooter that can be played alone or with friends. It may look cutesy, but these balloons can be challenging to take down!

Varied items, engrossing gameplay and a killer soundtrack make Risk of Rain 2 one of the best roguelike shooters in recent years. The lack of a mid-game save feature and some uninspired environments hold this sequel back, but the astonishing translation from 2D to 3D more than makes up for it.

Assassin’s Creed brings beautiful English countryside to the masses whilst fixing a lot of the series’ recent missteps. Some genuinely fun and surprising moments with some great writing make for a fun time.

A fun game to play in your odd downtime moments when you haven’t got the opening to sink into a much larger game. Comes with plenty of challenge in the main game, but also has a more relaxing version when you’re just wanting to chill.

Beautiful, challenging and frustrating in equal measure, Relicta is a game you should pick up if you want an exercise for your brain.

Sony’s obligatory ‘tech-demo’ game is a fun-loving trip through PlayStation history. Despite looking like a throwaway title, it easily stands alongside the biggest hits on the launch of the PlayStation 5.

Foretales spearheads the card-based genre into an unexplored amalgamation of narration and choose-your-own-adventure though I wish it hadn't strayed from its card battler roots so much, which ultimately leads to a simple gameplay loop.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is a beautiful-looking game that feels like a great addition to the series. It is challenging and full of non-stop ninja action.

RentPoly is a good little game if it's something you're willing to put the time into. Once the ball gets rolling, it's very hard to stop.

Raccoo Venture is a game that is full of nostalgia for 3D platformers on the N64. With fun characters and challenging puzzles to solve, this game will keep you entertained for hours.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game might not be perfect, but fans of the genre or series (or looking to confront their fear of clowns) should check it out.

Featuring a stunning low-poly art style, a wonderfully well-integrated soundtrack, an ingeniously simple control scheme, an interesting transformation mechanic, and impressively designed temples, AER has a lot going for it. It’s unfortunate that the experience is as short as it is and there is no way to keep track of what’s been seen. A few more environmental puzzles and a simple journal would fix my only complaints about this exploration-heavy title.

Great part two in The Fall series, and leaves the door open just enough ready for part three. If Over the Moon continue with the improvements they’ve made to the next installment, then the trilogy should go down as a true classic of its time.

Guards II: Chaos in Hell is the perfect background game, no more, no less.

Timberman VS built on everything that made Timberman the great game it is but sadly the absolutely dire state of the multiplayer matching means a large portion of it simply cannot be enjoyed unless you have a built in friendship group ready to play or do so alone.

Hunter’s Moon is worth facing Eldritch horrors for. It’ll lull you with nicely-voiced narration before digging its claws deep into you with its gameplay.

With this stimulating narrative, Lydia is a steady explorative adventure that will leave you speechless by the time you finish it. Its take on adult themes within a childish aesthetic feels familiar but it accomplishes enough to set it apart from other like-minded indie titles. It’s a solid debut release by Platonic Partnership and leaves me intrigued to see what comes next from the Finnish studio.

Even though it’s short, I would definitely say it’s worth the small price tag if you enjoy relaxing games like Proteus or Journey. It doesn’t have any big emotional payoff or deep message to convey, but it’s still a game I enjoyed playing, and one I can see myself returning to after a long, stressful day.

Megaton Rainfall is an interesting title, it hands the player overpowered abilities and a huge sandbox to play in but forces the player to restrain themselves by making collateral damage the key to success or failure. I had hours of fun exploring the universe, checking out landmarks and discovering secrets out in the galaxy between fighting off waves of alien enemies. Unfortunately I have to mark Megaton Rainfall down for its mission-breaking bugs, however this title is a refreshing experience and a fun one at that. I recommend just taking some time to sit quietly and absorb the experience that is Megaton Rainfall.

This War of Mine: Forget Celebrations Charity DLC is a neat little upgrade that adds a nice mode to the game. It’s very cheap and since all proceeds go to charity, I don’t see a world in which this is a bad purchase.

Restless Soul is a fun game, with great characters and a silly story that is sure to make you laugh. The game is a lot more challenging than the simple retro-looking graphics will make you believe.

Crime Boss: Rockay City is a pleasant surprise considering all of the aspects that make its foundations usually crumble from the weight. Just get ready to die, try and die again until you take the throne.

Stunt Flyer is a wholesome and relaxing arcade-style flying game that has great visuals and chill music. It can be played solo or in split-screen co-op.

Aqua Kitty UDX is a robust arcade shooter with an adorable cat aesthetic. The game offers a good level of challenge and chaos to keep you on your toes. It's let down slightly by some uninspired backgrounds but offers lots of fun on the Nintendo Switch.

Deathsmiles is a arcade shoot 'em up videogame with a Anime touch to it. Choose your path and friends in this adventure to save the world.

A Light in the Dark is a great visual novel with an interesting story and segments where you have to interact with the characters to alter what happens. It is pretty short, but there are multiple endings that tell more of the stories of both the hostage and his captors.

A mish-mash of genres that blend well and give you a lot to do for the price of free.

Rogue Company mixes casual and tactical gameplay styles to create a hero shooter that, while not particularly innovative, is incredibly entertaining. You’ve seen this all before folks, but sometimes good things stick around for a reason.

The Falconeer absolutely excels in story and presentation. Sure, its aerial combat gameplay might lack impact or variety, but with such an interesting and visually stunning world, it’s easy to overlook such shortcomings.

Barebones and no-frills it may be, but Tetris 99 is the best playing Tetris game in years and ultimately well worth downloading if you’re a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber.

Honestly, I might be pushing it with the gameplay being lackluster and the abundance of loading screens, but this game deserves credit where credit’s due. I may not have connected with it emotionally, the style of story told - whilst not for everyone - is something I’m sure will hit home or strike a chord for some people and whilst I didn’t focus on the value of loss. It definitely gave me food for thought of expressing a narrative that felt genuine and earnest.

Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly builds upon the original, bringing players new and easy-to-love characters, a ton of good vibes, and tidbits of lore for anyone interested. It’s a sweet return to the nighttime café that fans are sure to enjoy.
