When it comes to story, lore and characters, The Witcher 3 is simply stunning, a milestone in western RPGs. Although the gameplay is quite varied, and the offer in terms of quests and exploration rich, the combat system still lacks depth, and structure as questing never changes. As it is, it's a perfect game for whoever like to dive deep into a believable and vast imaginary world, but not for gameplay purists.

Kugane's eastern atmospheres did a great job at Eorzea, which has never been so attractive.

Brilliant, hilarious, varied without ever losing consistency or amalgamation, it is really difficult to recommend a more suitable title to round off the year. Well done everyone, have a good trip.

Bioshock is an experience that every gamer in the World should have. Irrational Games did a great job, not making the "perfect game" but one that could leave a mark in video games history.

The sexiest virtual lady in the videogame industry is no longer Lara Croft. Bayonetta is a well packed game that mixes a beautiful, semi-naked, woman, tons of crazy action and a stunning artistic and graphic package. Platinum Games gave life at the greatest "pure" action game in this generation.

Halo 4 is a masterpiece. The storytelling is mature and comes with a deep and perfect character design. Despite the fact that the campaign is not mind-blowing (only 6 hours in duration) 343 Industries' first iteration boosts up multiplayer, giving fans and other gamers a completely new and refined Halo experience.

With a surprising overall performance to be his first commercial work (he had already experimented with this free-of-play Where the Goats are), Cardenas gives us a small but complete artistic treatise in the form of an interactive experience, succeeding in a single stroke on stage a fierce criticism of traditional gaming structures and to enhance the school of subtractive design, describing with a bittersweet and poignant approach to the life of new generations.

The adventure is well sketched in terms of narrative, while the new game mechanics and cards (obviously consistent with the setting) are really interesting and a harbinger of unprecedented strategies that will not fail to liven up the ladder in the next months.

Despite the low-profile launch, at least when it comes to marketing, Deserts of Kharak deserves all of your attention. It's pure RTS bestowed with an amazing mission design, and it will take you back to the golden age of the genre. Multiplayer servers are underpopulated, but hopefully word-of-mouth will take care of that.

We have a cast of stellar characters, the best graphics ever sported by the series, one of the most balanced combat systems, among the best side-stories ever and many new and old minigames - it will be very difficult to say no to this game.

Eastward is not just the dazzling debut title of a very small development studio in Shanghai, just as it is not just a video game that closely resembles the best 2D Zelda in history. Don't call it Zelda-like: not because it's not a formally correct definition but because Pixpil's creature wants to be something more than the classic declaration of love to a title from the past. Eastward is one of the brightest examples of what are the true qualities of independent development: a real pearl that deserves to be discovered, perfectly capable of carving out its space in the niche of instant videogame cult. It is certainly one of the most surprising and impactful experiences of recent years, one of those titles capable of pointing the way to those who will come later.

One of the best Psp exclusives. Fresh, deep, suitable for quick play or intense game sessions. Beat'em up mechanics works well, and the rpg aspect add variety and strategical issues. Almost perfect, artistically and technically speaking too.

The word "masterpiece" is often used inappropriately and risks losing strength. But if you look at the entire production of Kojima, science fiction as a narrative genre, and those video games that try to get out of the production and thematic logics of the mainstream market, it is undeniable that the merits of a giant should be recognized at Death Stranding.

Citizen Sleeper is a breath of fresh air for a genre like science fiction, more and more inclined to self-cite itself and to enhance its aesthetics, leaving the content partially in the shade. Its settings, although not directly observable, are alive, pulsating, and inside it is possible to intertwine with the stories of the inhabitants of Erlin's Eye. A sort of second chances simulator in which to create a new identity to start from scratch. Minimalist gameplay, stratospheric illustrations and an ethereal and dreamy soundtrack make it an essential experience in our opinion.

After The Finals, Embark Studios hits the mark again, releasing not only one of the best extraction shooters on the market, but also one of the most interesting games of the year. With robotic enemies as bad as ever, gorgeous maps, and a remarkably accessible loot system, ARC Raiders manages to be the first entry in the genre truly accessible to everyone, even running flawlessly on consoles. The only unknown remains post-launch support, but the roadmap published by the developers is promising, with an additional map already arriving in the next few days. In the meantime, see you above ground.

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is a real surprise. If you thought that the fighting game genre had run out of steam with Street Fighter 6, think again: the year of fighting games ends with a surprise twist. Impeccable netcode, Crossplay and rich single player content are just part of the numerous advantages of this production. If you are a newbie and want to enter the world of fighting games with a graphically clean product, with little chaos and no lengthy movelists, this is the title for you. Absolutely worth trying at least in the free version.
