Wonderbook: Book of Spells is an impressive piece of technology, realizing the potential of augmented reality as a teaching tool and a means of wholesome family entertainment. Its appeal diminishes the older your children get, but Sony has convinced us that a world of possibilities lies ahead for Wonderbook.

Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation was a game with a tremendous amount of potential, but it never fully realizes it. At times it borders on brilliant, capturing the essence of the console classics and looking good doing it, yet at others it's a disappointing mix of novelty controls, frame-rate issues and weak storytelling.

F1 Race Stars is hindered by a lack of courses, while the omission of drifting and lack of customisation ensures that it doesn't have the same longevity and levels of excitement as the likes of its contemporaries.

If you have the space and are already a Nike+ convert, Nike+ Kinect Training is a fantastic workout supplement, offering a diverse range of exercises, online functionality and a number of unique features. Unfortunately, occasional Kinect sensor issues ensure that while Nike+ Kinect Training is better than most fitness games on the market, it's still not a patch on getting out and joining a class, or simply going for a run.

That being said, the improvements aren't enough to make it worth a purchase over the free version that was already available, making Wreck-It Ralph a difficult game to recommend.

Punch Quest is a wonderful fast action romp for iOS that will keep drawing players in for a long time to come.

In many ways Arc Squadron is a better sequel to Star Fox 64 than the official games that followed it, making it a must-have for mobile space combat fans.

With a more focused campaign and some extra work to iron out control bugs, and Borderlands Legends could have shown promise.

Skylanders Giants is a worthy sequel and recommendable to anyone who was a fan of the original. To have the best time, you should ideally begin with new Skylanders instead of breezing past half the campaign with your existing characters, but thankfully the novelty of the toys hasn't worn off and the actual game behind the grand concept still remains a blast.

Silent Hill: Book of Memories fails miserably at capturing the core attributes of its series predecessors, namely the effective psychological horror and captivating storylines. It doesn't exactly excel as an original dungeon-crawler either, bogged down by repetitive gameplay and generic mechanics. This is one book you will be able to put down.

Halo 4's combination of modes offers a very impressive package. The campaign offers a familiar but genuinely captivating ride, while Spartan Ops and War Games both take multiplayer in some welcome directions that'll undoubtedly hold your interest in the coming months.

That being said, Warfighter isn't necessarily a bad game, and there are some fantastic set-pieces and nice ideas in the multiplayer mode.

Hotline Miami is an odd experience. Missions flow between stealth and combat with split-second tactical choices reinforced through trial-and-error. The context for that gameplay is brutal beyond measure, though the game also provides a rare opportunity for reflection.

The stealth mechanics are truly awful.

The inclusion of 'Classic' mode is a shred move that is sure to pay dividends, causing many old fanatics to relapse and encouraging newcomers to join the fold, but it still remains miles ahead of its competitors with its sheer level of depth, sophistication and challenge.

Its fascinating story and well-balanced array of puzzles means Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask is probably the best outing in the series since the ground-breaking original, and the new approach to visuals once again reminds you of the system's now forgotten selling point; its terrific 3D screen.

At times the challenge can become too much, and you're forced to repeat and fail over and over again so you can earn enough cash to buy the right upgrades. However, there is an undeniably addictive quality to spreading the infection, as you pick just the right spot to drop the virus and zombify entire populations in a matter of seconds.

It's hard not to smile at the charming cartoonish visuals, though that smile can easily go the other way after a few of the action hero's cringe-worthy one-liners.

With gorgeous visuals and smooth controls, Need for Speed: Most Wanted is a great, if unsurprising, pick for your mobile racing needs.

The single-player game lacks a bit of structure and the multiplayer is certainly chaotic at first, but the game excels in providing socially connected racing that gets under the skin.

With a campaign offering anything up to 70 hours worth of gameplay, not to mention a comprehensive multiplayer mode, Assassin's Creed 3 is one of the most complete action-adventure games we've ever played. Connor is a wonderful character and the perfect centerpiece for a riveting story that spans hundreds of years when you factor Desmond into the equation.

As useful as this is, the game offers only an ephemeral experience, and will struggle to hold players' attention after their daily workout has concluded and a few high scores have been logged online.

Playing Okami HD is a joyous experience, but it is sad to see that after six years it is still one of the best examples of its genre. Okami HD is fantastic, and hopefully this re-release will inspire a new generation of game designers to play, enjoy and then scoff, "Ha, I bet I could do better".

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a wonderful game, which, despite being based on a near 20-year-old release, feels somehow fresh and stands apart from its rivals. It's deep, engaging, intuitive and inclusive, and is likely to invade consoles and PCs for quite some time.

Ultimately, this Doom 3 redux reveals a game that conjures the same tricks as its predecessors, but without the humor or flair.

It controls well, with Sonic reacting smoothly to the tilt controls.

With three stages to play on and dozens of characters and weapons to unlock, Super Crate Box is easily one of the best games on iOS, if not one of the best games in the last five years. Period.

The transition to mobile hasn't been seamless, as the touch controls make it that much trickier, but it's just as elegant a way to tell a story through gameplay as it was three years ago.
