It's lacking more than a few characters and the controls take some getting used to, but the overall experience is definitely a positive one. Especially for series veterans and third-person shooter fans.

Stealth-action is a perfect fit for the Riddick universe. Too bad the kinks weren't worked out prior to release.

An infectious multiplayer mode saves 2013: Infected Wars from becoming just another generic zombie shooter, but only barely.

Race Illegal isn't going to drop jaws, but its a solid racer thats a lot of fun to play. And the branding – Chillingo – is a good choice. This is a racer that looks arcade, but plays casual enough for all skill levels to enjoy.

Monster House will definitely appeal to those who love both spooky and tycoon games – but I don't see this game winning people who aren't already infatuated with those genres over because of the lacking visuals and dull pace.

Time is not always kind to classic games. This sadly, is one of those cases.

Not even the deeply ingrained nostalgia over one of the world’s earliest “Survival Horror” games is enough to make this port worthwhile.

Cosmonautica is a hugely ambitious space exploration game, but one that clearly wasn't made with phones in mind.

There's a lot to play through in Jane's Zoo with 39 levels in all, but admittedly it is all a little too simple and easy to complete. I did quite enjoy my time playing it but there was still that sense that the game was almost playing itself.

The problem is that IN TIME is just a trifle dull.

The constant need for coins really hampers this game and can make for long periods of waiting or the need to spend some real money.

Possibly because NASCAR games don't enjoy the same popularity as other sports games, this title attempts to mix things up by turning a racing game into a simulation. But is that a good thing?

The puzzles might not have any guidance, but are at least simple enough to figure out with a focus on jigsaws and matching up games. They won't really excite though. Throw in the weak and dated graphics, and the very short game length and Sinister City: Vampire Adventure isn't one of G5′s best titles. There's always a better Hidden Object game to play than this unless you're a true vampire obsessive.

Laden with clunky controls, messy visuals, and shallow combat, Thor: The Dark World is not the marvel we expected.

There's really nothing redeeming about Gangstar New Orleans. It's a bad GTA game with no personality, terrible free-to-play mechanics, representation issues, and a boatload of bugs. Just don't bother with this game at all. There's no reason to.

Each character class has its own strengths and weaknesses, each level has a host of hidden contraptions with which to cause chaos, and every weapon packs a powerful punch, but the control issues – coupled with the graphical stuttering and lack of gameplay variety – just don't equate to much replay value.

Assassin's Creed Memories is hardly a game at all, and shamefully wastes the chance to do something cool with its source material.

Dungeon Keeper’s iOS outing is most definitely not the PC classic we all remember, but as a regular old freemium game it’s actually quite enjoyable.

As a Monty Python fan, I am disappointed with the lazy and unimaginative way this game has used the classic comedy troupe's work. As an iOS gamer, I am disappointed with the obvious, blatant copycatting of Angry Birds. This is nothing more than a licensed-name cash grab, and you should avoid it at all costs.

Wanderer: War Song is the kind of game I want to like, but it goes to great lengths to keep me from doing so. The controls are a mess, the hitboxes need adjusting, and getting booted back to the main menu after each level is a pain. I’d say wait for an update or two before investing any money here.

It's tough not to be cynical when confronted by such an uninspired freemium town building sim such as this. It hardly uses the movie license well.

This attempted hail mary ends up feeling like more of a personal foul.

There's a fascinating storyline underneath the poor gameplay.

There's a fantastic license within but Scarface is really very disappointing and gangster fans won't be impressed at all.

I didn't think Gameloft could do a worse job with free-to-play than they did with Let's Golf 3, but they sure did! Now please Gameloft, just stop. This is embarrassing.

The storyline is excellent, and the voice-acting spot-on, but Tales of Phantasia is unbelievably let down by its free-to-play model and terrible controls.

The RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise finally comes to iOS, but it's a rather disappointing affair.

Don't expect spills and thrills with FoundIt or even fancy looks, it's clearly not that kind of game. While it would have been nice to have seen more variety with the different levels (the flags of the world were particularly tedious compared to cartoon animals), it's not bad. It makes for an OK distraction to dive into once in a while.

Metro Ski Challenge really is one of the strangest experiences that I've had in the App Store. The game is pretty fun (it could use a bit more variety) and everything looks clean and polished, but I just can't help but to expect this all to be part of a big Orbitz ad campaign. Let me know if you get the same feeling.

Strategy purists will probably still lean towards Galcon due to its pure strategy focus, but I think the average gamer will appreciate the added abilities that Buccaneer Blitz grants you.

In a nutshell, if you love platform gaming and can't get enough of trying to beat the world in high score challenges, BloodRunner is probably the game for you.

It's a solid game, and it looks better than the majority of the casual games out there, but it doesn't offer enough of a challenge to be played through a second time.

An awful lot of fun. The strategy involved in reading and figuring out what each monster is made out of makes for a particularly entertaining experience.

The game does look good; they really did match the look and feel of TRON, right down to the 1980's style computer fonts. But look alone isn't enough to keep you coming back for more.

Doodle Invasion is the kind of line drawing game you'll drop into when you need something to entertain you on your commute, but it is a little shallow.

It's all quite run of the mill with Mister Miguel really.

Pengi promises over 100,000 distinct puzzles and vows that no two puzzles are the same which is certainly great value for money. So while Pengi might not be an instant buy, you really should give it a shot. It's deceptively brilliant and offers a heck of a lot of longevity.

In the end, Scrabble/Words With Friends fans who are looking for something a bit different will really love the variety of the Abble Dabble game boards, but traditionalists would do better to stay still.

Tiki Totems 2 expands on an already solid formula to offer an incredibly fun and thorough experience.

The graphics are of superior quality, and the game play is straight forward.

If you are looking for a Tap Tap Revolution-like experience and are tired of playing the same old corporate stuff, give Tapic a try. It's only 99 cents, and if you like how it plays, it has as much replayability as you have music.

Though Dangerous Hunts 2011 scores a bullseye on delivering a more robust, and even console-life campaign experience, piss-poor presentation and an awkward control scheme seem to veer this shot radically off target.

If frantic two finger tapping with RPG elements and nuclear bombs sounds good to you (sounds great to me!), Neo Defender 2 really is a must buy.

If you like Match-3 games and are looking for a fun twist, or you just love shapes so much that you dream of octagons, GeoSpin is the game for you. It doesn't hold me captive for quite as long as some of the other matching puzzle games, but its frantic, skill dependent nature will definitely appeal to some.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of perceived importance, getting through all the levels seems like more of a chore than an experience. I'm not saying the levels aren't fun, but they all sort of feel the same.

In true retro, quarter-gobbling fashion, this is one hard game. So hard, in fact, it's pretty much off-putting for anyone except the most hard-core gamer.

Boom Boat is a fun little game all in all. The controls are a little sensitive at times so it'd be nice if you could adjust the tilt sensitivity. Other than this though, it's attractive fun and its star system will scratch an itch that completing Angry Birds left behind.

It's a fun little title. Perhaps not one that you'd play for hours on end, if nothing else your brain would slowly implode from all the sums. It's also solely for the enjoyment. There's no sign of a leaderboard or achievements or anything like that.

While Iron Wars may not necessarily bring anything new to the table, it is certainly an amusing jaunt back into the world of iOS shooters.

Sure, you could look at Liberty Wings as a 3 in 1 game box, and in that sense Liberty Wings is a good value (mostly at its 99 cent asking price). Just don't confuse a good value with an amazing game, as there are much better plane shooters out there in the App Store.

It's the kind of game that you'll find yourself playing obsessively at first, but even after the initial excitement has gone, you'll still be returning to it daily for the next challenge.

At the end of the day, Cop seems like a low to middling budget point and click adventure that is deeply scarred by a miserable control system.

With great visuals, fun levels, and enough off-road vehicles to keep things fun, Alpine Crawler Wild will keep even the most hard core side scrolling racing fans entertained for quite some time.

For the most part, Risk on the iPad is a great value and a worthy representation of the franchise. It may not be as deep as its tabletop counterpart, but it's still very enjoyable and a great way to get newcomers hooked on the franchise.

Drag Racer: Pro Tuner is a heck of a lot of fun, once you put the effort in.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Megan and the Giant is a middling action/puzzle title that will appeal to fans of the genre but not many others.

A score-focused RPG has a lot of potential indeed and is certainly an unique idea. For now though, you might find yourself longing for a little more depth.

Game Center support and the ability to share your scores via Facebook adds a slight competitive edge but really the fun lies in simply progressing through the levels.

It's the sort of game you'll play for a couple of attempts then realise that you've been playing it for a lot longer than that. The simplistic nature just draws you in when you're after something that doesn't require thinking too much.

Last Temple might not be the most original game but it is fun. The control system is quick and responsive and the gameplay is easy to hop into. It's that perfectly pitched low price that means it's an easy decision to make. You like Match Three titles; this is the game for you.

While it's neither the most realistic nor the most engaging title available, it's good enough to satisfy racing fans and those with an interest in this new racing venture.

If you're a fan of classic dungeon crawls and infinite replay value, or you have a high level of patience and determination, then you will get a lot of value out of this title.

Any way you cut it, Mandala Memory is and will always be just a simple memory game. It very well may be the prettiest, most ambitious memory game on the planet, but it's still a memory game.

Finally there's a game that's really going to test your lateral thinking.

You won't fail because of the game's inadequacies. You'll fail because of your own doing. This does make for an acquired taste.

Other than a few issues with mission instructions (it's hard to really tell what you have to do to beat a mission), Bomberman Chains is a fairly good Match 3 game.

You won't be too enthused by its nature if you're used to something a bit more involving or less cutesy, but it does have its benefits.

My Kingdom for the Princess 2 starts out relatively simple, but it ramps up in difficulty, fast.

If this type of game seems to fit your interest, you've got a winning combination.

It's great fun. There's a ranking up system to make each piece stronger the more points you have, just as you'd expect from a Tower Defense title and the array of difficulties and levels ensures that there's plenty to do.

This is a sidescroller at heart, but it's unlike any you've ever played.

It's a shame that Style Studio: Fashion Designer crashes so readily as it's quite an original app, albeit a little pricey for what it offers.

If you've grown sick of Scrabble and Words with Friends' specific rules and want something a bit different, then Kalimat is a familiar but different change of pace.

It's a simple game indeed but you'll find yourself playing Sheeple Chase for long enough to warrant the $0.99 price quite easily. It's also ideal to show kids although I fear the intrusive difficulty level restricts how much fun they'll have with it.

It's just what you'd expect from a Mahjongg title. No bad thing at all considering how enjoyable the idea is. Online leaderboards of some description other than the Facebook integration would have been nice, but other than this, it's hard to criticise Mahjongg Dimensions too much.

Office Gamebox offers a very simple experience but it's still fantastic fun. The presentation is spot on with simple instructions guiding you through each game and a high score encompassing all the titles in one, as well as individual ones.

Crystal Soul offers some interesting Match Three mechanics alongside RPG elements but it's in need of a tutorial.

Don't be fooled by the traditional match 3 exterior, Charmed is a gravity fueled throw-down.

Arcade baseball fans will get a kick out of Big Hit Baseball for a little while, but the game as a whole just doesn't invoke memories of Cracker Jacks at the ball game… it feels like sitting through a bad little league game with pitchers who can't pitch and fielders who can't field.

The level design in the game is largely uninspired – there's very little challenge in the levels, and it's all largely flat, with few hazards.

Cute yet competitive. Pity it's a little buggy.

At the end of the day, there's just not a lot to 3D Twist and Match to keep you entertained. Is it a horrible app? Hardly. But it doesn't stand out in a sea full of great apps that deserve your attention.

A clear winner with its touch-friendly, retro gaming. Support for Retina Display and fixing its minor bug are the only tweaks it needs for perfection.

For a dollar, TreeConnect is a hard game to pass up. I definitely see myself whipping this one out next time I have a couple of minutes to kill. It's fun, addictive and anyone can enjoy it.

Pig&Chicks is still a fun, challenging iOS game. When you consider it's only one dollar, you can't help but feel you're getting a pretty good bang for your buck.

Overall, Qwak is a really fun platformer packed full of ridiculous nonsense.

The mini-games in Albert are about as strange as they get, but fans of creative graphics and innovative gameplay will be pleased with this indy gem.

A semi-addictive action RPG with super cute graphics and a pet raising system.

It's fun to play in short doses but even at only a dollar in price, there are so many better games you could be playing for that short play session.

The game is great for quick rounds during any kind of downtime, and besting your own high score is still rewarding as ever.

It will give you countless hours of gameplay and hits that perfect sweet spot between individual level play time and strategy.
