    Leaving her comfort zone, this woman delivered the best album of her career. Each song comes with great sounds, some sin in production and distorted vocals that sometimes make strip jump, but it still becomes a good album and that you feel strong and witness to love as it says in various parts. The woman she became to feel on every piece of this album, the intimate version makes it good.

Por mais que os singles Bon Appetit é Swish swish não tenham uma boa relação com a messagem do álbum, é errôneo chamar witness de fracasso ou de ruim. Ao longo do álbum, as batidas tristes e transcendentais são um tom reflexivo e novo, tanto a sonoridade da Katy como a sonoridade da indústria.     I truly love this album but the singles didn't give justification to what the album is about to give us. The maturity is in, the production, the message and the overall experience are just satisfactory.

    There are good songs like "Chained to The Rhythm", "Swish Swish" and "Roulette", but some of them are good after seen them on Witness: The Tour - Tsunami, Hey Hey Hey, etc. I'm sad because a great song like Roulette could be the perfect single to win an Grammy but is not released. The same thing happened with "Legendary Lovers" from PRISM. Sorry, Katy, I'm a katycat but this wasn't a great album.

    This album really gives us a deeper insight into Katy's mind in the past few years. It is criminally underrated and is one of her best records to date. It explores lose, sexuality and coming out of a depressive part of her life as well as having heavy political messages. The singles did not do this album justice. It deserves a higher rating and much more respect.

Con sonidos electropop experimentales, letras de empoderamiento, crítica social e himnos feministas, Perry intentó otorgar algo diferente y falló en el intento. Vamos, que soy fan, pero si algo le debo criticar a Witness es la forma en que fue presentado, Chained to the Rhythm suena a un descarte de Prism, y todos los sencillos elegidos no son la esencia del disco. Creo que la forma de mostrar la maduréz del mismo era con el title track "Witness" o el potente "Power". Eso si le sumamos el terrible orden de las pistas.

Tras la promesa incumplida de sacar al mercado un trabajo “más oscuro” luego de Teenage Dream, Witness parece ser al fin el cambio de dirección que Katy venia advirtiendo hace ya mucho pero que evadía o edulcoraba excesivamente con producciones ambiguas tales como Prism, para no tener que enfrentarWitness es el intento de declaración de madurez más evidente de Katy Perry hasta la fecha. Tras la promesa incumplida de sacar al mercado un trabajo “más oscuro” luego de Teenage Dream, Witness parece ser al fin el cambio de dirección que Katy venia advirtiendo hace ya mucho pero que evadía o edulcoraba excesivamente con producciones ambiguas tales como Prism, para no tener que enfrentar el desafío de si su público estaría preparado para un sonido tan maduro como su artista. Y Witness podría tranquilamente ser la declaración de madurez más evidente de Katy Perry como también la más ordinaria hasta la fecha. Abordando temas como los rompimientos, los deseos sexuales, la política y autoestima; Witness termina siendo todo un mensaje poco claro de comprender. Siendo Perry la principal escritora del álbum, se nota desde el primer track el enfoque maduro que la interprete trata adquirir, con liricas más trabajadas pero poco pulidas. “Can I get a Witness? Will you be my Witness?” trata de comprometer al público en torno al coro.

    Hey Hey Hey una canción electropop incomprensible sobre la superación personal y empoderamiento femenino acompañada de un video que roza lo ridículo; una de las peores dentro el álbum junto con Swish Swish. Esta ultima siendo la respuesta burda e insulsa de parte de Perry a comparación de la sutil pero voraz Bad Blood, es una excusa para crear más atención por el álbum y contrarresta el mensaje inicial del LP convirtiéndolo en una montaña rusa que no subir o descender a ningún lado. “Deberías retirarte, eres tan encantadora como un cupón expirado”, Perry replica a Swift. El energético Pendulum, una producción pop góspel, es elegante y alegre. Un clásico y encantador track, como Perry nos tiene acostumbrados. Y las dos únicas composiciones que le hacen frente a toda la producción a medias, son la sensual y oscura Roulette -canción donde sí se podría aplicar la premisa de “sonido oscuro y maduro”- que bien podría ser un Sweet Dreams 2.0; y la elogiada Chained to The Rhythm, primer sencillo del álbum, que es una critica a la sociedad actual en la que vivimos. Una muy buena jugada de parte de Katy para ser tomada más en serio, aunque pobremente valorada. Perry nos demuestra, además, su madurez lirica en Miss You More y su fragilidad sentimental, no obstante, vuelve a perder elegancia en la exagerada y dramática Save As Draft. Y Bon Appétit, una canción sobre ¿canibalismo en la industria musical o sobre como vemos a las estrellas como un producto a consumir?, seguro hay miles de teóricas conspirativas al respecto a las que Katy quiso hacer alusión pero el mensaje queda deformado por la sobre sexualizada letra, aunque el video es entretenido y ofrece buenos visuales. Witness simplemente no termina de decidirse donde ubicarse, el equipo de Perry parece más preocupado en contentar por igual a la base demográfica de sus oyentes que en entregar un álbum solido y consistente que pueda hacer frente a la premisa de “sonido oscuro y maduro”. Porque después de todo, vamos, es Katy Perry, ella puede vender lo que sea; es lo que más de uno imaginaba hasta Witness. Un concepto llamativo pero mal ejecutado. PUNTAJE: 23/100

I could go into a lot of things and write a 10-page long essay on why the entire era surrounding the album was a failure, but frankly--I don't have the time, nor do I have the audience. I could go into a lot of things and write a 10-page long essay on why the entire era surrounding the album was a failure, but frankly--I don't have the time, nor do I have the audience. This review will most likely get lost in the sea of other reviews so I'll keep it short and to the point.

    The music is overproduced and generic. Lyrically, Katy is repeating herself A LOT on the 15 songs that comprise this record, and vocally, she's had far more impressive moments (e.g. Firework, Roar). Thematically, there's everything you'd expect from a modern Pop album: empowering anthems, slutty songs, melodramatic songs, a song on which Katy drags her archenemy. There's one exception to the standard Pop fare, *one* politically charged song most likely ghostwritten by Hilary Clinton about how we're all zombies chained to the rhythm. Yes, Katy Perry, a super privileged pop star & multimillionaire suddenly had a political awakening, as well as a feminist one which she had expressed by getting a short pixie cut hence the album cover. The eyeball in her mouth is another story though *wink, wink.*

    I should also mention that there's this trend now where many people call this album "underrated" and think the public was "not ready" for Katy trying something "new" and "provocative." That's not the case, because this album was anything BUT new and provocative at the time of its release--it actually was just extremely generic and calculated. Katy basically went from singing catchy songs about love that had her signature zany songwriting style to singing music any other industry puppet could've released. All you need to do is to check the liner notes to see what went wrong. Every song on this album has at least five hit songwriters with as many as four people (or more) handling the production. It's as if Katy contacted every single "it" girl and "it" boy in the industry to create a foolproof collection of guaranteed number #1 hit records. Well the result was the exact opposite. The only songs that I thought showed potential and sounded unique were Roulette, Power, and Tsunami but even these three tracks pale in comparison to the highs of Katy's previous material.

    To end the review on a more positive note, I'd say "Witness" is probably the most cohesive album in Katy Perry's discography in the sense that there are no clearly defined highs and lows like on her past releases. Rather, the same underwhelming mediocre sound is maintained throughout the entire record which might have actually ended up working in its favor. My overall rating is a solid 6/10.    … Expand

Swish Swish and Bon Appetit are at least catchy, Changed to the Rhythm is apparently meaningful - not for me. The rest of the songs are just fillers for me - every of her album is full of fillers, but Witness doesn't have any major bop song. Album's best ones are jsut today's average.… Expand

    Daring, determination and courage! Witness, appears to be a project 100% structured by the singer. We know that her creativity goes far beyond Instagram posts: she develops tours, directs music videos, decides song names, and composes songs.     Daring, determination and courage! Witness, appears to be a project 100% structured by the singer.

    We know that her creativity goes far beyond Instagram posts: she develops tours, directs music videos, decides song names, and composes songs. In 2017, Katy creates a record revealing the vulnerability and fear in her heart. Songs like "Into me You see", "Save as Draft" and the title track itself, propose to those who decide to listen with an open heart, the state of loneliness in which the artist was. Behind electropops, like "Swish Swish", Perry hides the need for acceptance by other people, mainly because he is a woman, in a market dominated by men, taking all the prominence.

    Unlike PRISM, Witness is an album in which the mistake is not in choosing the repertoire, but in choosing the themes of the songs. The lead "Chained to the Rhythm" addresses the political issue, "Bon Appetit" talks about Machismo, "Swish Swish" talks about humiliating another woman (?!).

    Initially with the political theme, the album gets lost in wanting to address a lot at the same time. Perhaps, if divided into 2 or 3 ep's, Perry could continue to convey his message as he aspired to do with this album, and have a greater acceptance by the public, as listeners would be aware that these would be thematic, and all songs would follow the theme line. . Witness is a good album, worthy of note 8, until then the best of the artist.

    Unfortunately, it's an album that I like, because I'm a fan, and I've heard it dozens of times, but for the critic who hears 1 or at most 2, what he finds is an album lost in itself.

    May the next album be more structured and cohesive, as Katy (and no artist) does not deserve the criticism received for this project.

    It’s a real shame Witness has come out as a bit of a disjointed mess, as there’s a decent record somewhere in there, but it gets lost in the fog of endless guest productions and co-writes that miss the point entirely.
