Katy Perry’s career is over, I have no idea why she keeps trying. She’ll never get a Top 10 hit ever again.

Her music has not progressed over the years and lacks depth. The album is not cohesive and some lyrics are banal.

Chromatica is better. This **** is wack! It feels like she’s copying Chromatica sounds and put them on her wack a$$ album. Flop!

Compared to her other works, this one sounded so ... reductive. The songs are tolerable, but sometimes I wanted to sleep in the middle of the album. It wasn't this time!

This is probably the worst album release by singer Katy Perry. Completely dated song, horrible lyrics and childishness from a 35 year old woman. Waiting for the moment when she launched a Teenage Dream 2.0.

Meh. A one note pop star. There is no evolution sonically or artistically in her work.

Katy is a wonderful woman, but she never reinvents herself. She has been doing the same pop since the beginning of her career. In addition to children's themes. It looks like an album for children, in fact, maybe not even children like something more professional. An amateur album for a great woman.

This is really bad. It is like " I need more music to became my buzz singles into a new album before the public forget me".

This album makes blessed madonna remixes sound good. Katy is desperatelly aiming for a hit but with no creativity, no risk, no meaning, nothing. Just the old bozo perry doing her clowneries for her childish fanbase. This smile? Has cavities. This circus? Is a horror show.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Katy Perry fell into the same thing again, a children's album with attempts at a personal album, the worst thing is that she made songs with high vocal strength, when it is clear that she will not be able to sing these songs decently Expand

Without fleeting moments of bad taste, Perry does indeed sound mature, but she's also not quite as fun. That's a conscious choice, though. Smile is intended to evoke memories of her frivolous younger days while pointing toward a sustainable pop future.

While Perry finds the occasional moment of quality here (Smile and Tucked both feel like the best possible music we could get from Katy Perry in 2020), Smile is an album searching for an identity—and when it fails, it falls back on lazy writing.

Like Joanne before Chromatica, Smile plays like a necessary centering exercise, indulging her insecurities and less surefire instincts. If Witness was overdetermined, Smile is an earnest exhale, for better or for worse. It delivers an image of her journey towards inner peace that is honest (if corny) and catchy (if not exactly inventive).
