When Taylor stopped with her attention-seeking stunts, she was finally able to live up to her full potential. The album is packed with lyrical genius, magical melodies and intricate details, so even songs that take a short break from one of these qualities fill the room with their stories and sincerity. Definitely her magnum opus, matching Lorde’s Melodrama and Lana’s NFR.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This album is a complete 180 from everything she's done before. Swift explores a whole different sound while simultaneously using her best craft: story telling. She creates these ethereal imagery and instrumentals that tell the story of characters made up from the figment of her imagination. Her best work yet! This album is basically a huge blanket keeping you warm and safe during the cold weather. Expand

"Folklore" solidifes Swift's seat among the songwriting greats with the likes of KIng, Mitchell, Springsteen, and Dylan. Her intrinsic ability to cultivate narratives driven with metaphors and imageries has never been this sword-sharp.

The most mature album of Taylor, where the melody and the lyrics do the talking, where she doesn't need to have the crutches of being a pop superstar and can just be the lyrical genius that she is.

The last thing anything would expect in this hectic year is Taylor Swift releasing another album to follow-up her bright youthful project 'Lover' a year before. If you're like me, you need a few more listens to understand the complexity of this project. If you're like me, you need a few more listens to understand the complexity of this project. In contrast to reputation, 1989, and Lover, this album doesn't rely on heavy production or experimenting with synths and basslines, but rather just her guitar, her pen, and her voice. Needless to say, this proves that Taylor Swift's strongest aspect as a musical artist and musician is her way of storytelling and songwriting. folklore is a beautifully crafted album, that might be boring to some, but such a drastic change from her previous releases I deem it a piece of art. This is literally the best album I’ve heard in my life and it shows so much growth as an artist from Taylor. Tracks like ‘betty’ reflect the sound of her first record, however with deeper lyrics and emotion. It is a huge leap from 2019’s ‘Lover’ but it was perfectly done.

This album shows taylor’s not chasing no.1 hits or billions of views anymore also this is her most mature work so far. The lyricism is so poetic, haunting the production is so intimate yet detailed. I love it when jack antonoff and taylor work together.

This is a brilliant Album. Tracks 1-5, 9 - 14 are excellent songs on first listen. The rest are very good. I am very impressed by her song writing. The story told in track 3, the conversational impasse in track 4, and the deep musings of the golden but invisible string were all deeply satisfying. Excellent!

Possibly her best album, its a masterpiece lyrically and really tells a story. Especially with August, Cardigan and Betty being a story from different perspectives. The melodies are so beautiful too.

It's a sharp turn to the left for Swift and a fine reminder that she is more than just a gleaming pop phenomenon, but a remarkable songwriter too. [Oct 2020, p.36]

A modern-folk masterpiece which finds her moving from her previous pop bangers into stunningly simple yet sharp melodies, ‘folklore’ will be going down in Swiftie history as one of her most unexpected, and undoubtedly one of her best.

These 16 tracks (17 on the deluxe version) play out quite pleasurably in their entirety, the joins between Swift, Dessner and Antonoff ultimately only of niche interest. But Swift’s powerful songs reach their climaxes with bittersweet orchestrations, rather than blows to the solar plexus or a ringing in the ears. Everything hovers; little truly lands.
