You know how the Batman and Superman films completely missed the points of the characters and what they're supposed to stand for? You know how all the acting and dialog was clunky? How the plot made no sense?

Yeah, reverse all that. It's AMAZING. They totally 100% get her character. This is, hands down, the best portrayal of her character I've ever seen. Cartoons and comics included. She goes with the flow, but isn't afraid to just do what she wants if she thinks you're being unreasonable. She is an amazing fighter, but also incredibly strong, and most importantly driven by her innate compassion.

The characters are all fleshed out realistically. It takes time to flesh out even some of the side characters when you least expect it. The characters all react pretty realistically to their scenarios they find themselves in. There is not a single scene that does not belong there, and you always understand exactly what is happening and why (unless the film intentionally doesn't want you too).

IT'S A GREAT MOVIE. I can't believe I'm saying this, but yes. Hell yes. It's right up there with some of the best solo marvel films like Ant Man and Iron Man, and better than a lot of marvel films, but not all of them.

It is exactly what we all wanted, when we need it, how we needed it.

Excellent casting and story! Gal Gadot has a heart of gold. Chris Pine does an admirable job along the rest of the cast. Writing has a sense of humor and poignancy.(Edith Hamilton's mythology optional)

Wonder Woman is a phenomenal film and in my opinion the best the DCEU has to offer. I thought I'd give my views on this film given there's a sequel right around the corner.

Awesome movie. There are some overtly sexist parts but it's from a different time. There were way too many young men on the streets of London for war time.

It's one of those rare comic book movies that transcends the genre to bring us something fresh and new, while still embracing the traditions of old-school Hollywood. Patty Jenkins' direction is pitch-perfect, miraculously balancing huge action blowouts with tender and poignant character moments. Gal Gadot is an absolute delight and surprise in the lead role, perfectly embodying the character while never once giving even a glimpse of hatred or vengeance, no matter how dismal the impressively and respectfully realized World War 1 setting gets. Gadot and Jenkins never once sexually objectifies the character, even while embracing her earthy sensuality and championing her sex-positivity. It's a testament to Gadot's on-screen presence and Jenkins' magnanimous direction that Chris Pine, in one of his best performances and a master class of sly charm, neither steals focus nor devolves into a generic side-kick. The supporting cast is uniformly wonderful, with every character feeling fully realized and memorable. The inquisitive tenderness Gadot shares with her ragtag band of brothers in the more personal moments is a true highlight to the film, adding up to an exploration of the duality of humanity: the ugliness and the hope, the anger and the grace, the doubt and the determination. I saw this movie with my 68-year-old mother and we both left the theater feeling inspired and captivated, hugging each other through the tears. Unlike other recent comic book movies, Wonder Woman doesn't feel like it's made just for hardcore fans, teenage boys or people with very unique sensibilities. Though this is without a doubt a movie with a powerfully specific vision, the appeal is truly universal. There's very little in the way of the overbearing fan service, Easter Eggs and sequel-baiting that has become de rigueur with modern-day big-budget studio fare. You've got to respect Patty Jenkins, Allan Heinberg, Geoff Johns and all involved with the crafting of the story for their faith in the source material and their respect for the audience. The production values are uniformly fantastic without being too showy. Lindy Hemming's period/fantasy costumes are marvels to behold, rich with detail and texture. The score is appropriately anthemic and well-utilized. The cinematography embraces both vivid colors and murky shadows. The special effects never overwhelm the actors or the action, even in the slightly chaotic, but efficiently staged, final showdown. I can't recommend this movie enough. Superhero fans will be thrilled to see Wonder Woman join the pantheon of truly great comic book movies, while those who don't like the genre or previous DC films will feel embraced. I can't wait to see it again. It's that rare sort of movie that will entertain you and help you escape the problems of the world while you're watching it, while also helping you find the courage and strength to face our challenges with love and truth after the credits have rolled. The world needs more love and truth these days. The world needs Wonder Woman. Expand

Action scenes are fun to watch. Suspenseful scenes are thrilling. Twists are entertaining (even if not shocking). Cute/Comedic scenes are funny. Ending was good and the way they gave her power to overcome the final boss was also smart. This is the new gold standard of an super heroine movie. I'd want my daughter to follow this wonder woman instead of most other "omg i'm a victim. i'm powerless, but anger and hatred give me strength. the force frees me and i will kill you all." lol Expand

As the first solo feature film for Wonder Woman since its creation in 1941, it must have been a challenge to find the right person for the role. Who has muscles, beauty, intelligence, charm, physical grace and alacrity, and a thick head of jet black hair? My first choice would have been Catherine Zeta-Jones, but unfortunately Hollywood would want the actress to be under 40. The pickings must have been slim, which is how a former beauty queen and Israeli unknown (Gal Gadot) jumped from relative obscurity to a Hollywood film that has already made over $800 million at the box office. Gadot gives Wonder Woman a multilayered persona and a martial arts mystique with her bullet-proof bracelets, golden Lasso of Truth, and god-given sword, and she also adds to it a mysterious, not-quite-identifiable Hebrew accent.

Princess Diana of Themyscira, a.k.a., Diana Price, is not your average princess. She was born into a secluded island paradise for women only, a mystical place steeped with Greek mythology, whose inhabitants claim ancient ancestry that harks back to Zeus himself. They are Amazonian warriors, who are trained for war from childhood by practicing swordsmanship and skilled hand-to-hand combat. They are mortal, but they have longevity and superhuman strength. The little princess is told by Hippolyta, her mother (Connie Nielsen), that she did not have a father—her mother sculpted her from clay, and Zeus infused her with life. (It's not clear how the island civilization produces babies, although their ancient philosophical treatises conclude that men are in fact necessary for reproduction.) Coincidentally, all the inhabitants of the island speak English with a vaguely Israeli accent.

Diana has even greater strength and skill than her compatriots, including the island's greatest warrior general, Antiope (Robin Wright), who is also her personal trainer. The little girl grows into a perfect picture of royal elegance, courage, and magnanimity. But the peace of the island, which is magically hidden from earthly view by a translucent, watery curtain, is disturbed by the appearance of an American WWII pilot, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), who somehow permeates the protective curtain (which malfunctions easily) and crashes into the water. Thus begins the journey of Diana to end the "never-ending war," the one prophesied by all the elders on her island. She is convinced that the monster behind the war machine is the god that causes everyone a big headache, Ares, the god of war. It was Diana's destiny from birth to challenge Aries and destroy him, thus restoring humanity to the good creatures that they were meant to be.

Classic and mythical superhero tale though this may be, the script has an underlying theme regarding the paradoxical nature of human nature, as seen from the perspective of a naive, unblemished, and highly evolved being. Wonder Woman might as well be an extraterrestrial as she perceives humanity through alien eyes, often shocked and confused by the contradictions, the indifference, and the ambiguous morality of the human species. "You are getting what you deserve!" she lashes out at Steve Trevor. "It's not about what you deserve," he insists, "it's what you believe." And figuring out what humans believe is a complex and disturbing investigation that may in the end confound even Wonder Woman.

I can't believe it but DC actually made a great movie. If the terrible BvS made $900M in cinemas then Wonder Woman has to make over $1B. Sadly, from the trailer I think Justice League will be another BvS but we can have hope for future DC projects.

"Man of Steel," while entertaining, was nowhere near "spectacular," "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," no matter how much you liked it, was a gigantic disappointment, and while I've yet to watch "Suicide Squad," it kind of seems like everyone I talk to about it tells me to avoid it. So, along comes female director Patty Jenkins with her version of "Wonder Woman." And to the surprise of many, including myself, the film is actually pretty great! Obviously, it's got all the things that make a superhero movie great (a great story, good writing, interesting characters, cool action, and strong performances, specifically Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman), but for me, the film was successful for a number of other reasons. For starters, while it definitely had the actions we all expect from this kind of movie, the film definitely wasn't afraid to build its story and its characters and take the necessary time to develop them. But also, where a lot of superhero films may get caught up in franchise building, "Wonder Woman" did an incredible job standing on its own despite being part of the DCEU. In fact, outside of some very small references at the beginning and the end of the film, you could've told me that this film wasn't part of the DCEU and I would've believed you. All in all, "Wonder Woman" is a huge success and it's definitely the film the DCEU needed. Let's hope it stays this way as we continue on. Expand

Expand

For meI am a huge fan of the Marvel Movies, but quite frankly DC has left me kind of tepid or luke warm on their past movies in the super hero realm. I went to see "Wonder Woman" with mediocre expectations and got totally blown away. For me growing up with Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman on TV it was going to take some doing for me to get that blown away feeling. Well I got a nuke dropped on me, because DC finally lives up to all the hype it got on this one. Gal Gadot is the new "Wonder Woman" and leaves all the rest from the past in her dust. She is simply amazing along with the story, the characters, villains, and visual effects. Even along the way I heard chuckle's and laughter as little one liners and good humor was sprinkled in. The movie had that all along with a little romance and deep feelings thrown in. Even the side kicks for Steve Trevor were colorful and well done. I really enjoyed "The Chief" played by Eugene Brave Rock, he made a comment to Wonder Woman in the movie about the war, and what it was destroying and said his people were destroyed by Steve Trevor meaning the white man a long time ago. Lots of thought went into the script dialogue and this is DC's crowning jewel for Wonder Woman and women in general. Wonder Woman isn't just the princess anymore as now she is the reigning Queen of the DC superhero flicks!! Expand

The acting is so far above and beyond what one would expect from a summer blockbuster. The set and costume design is superb. Be it fantasy or WW1 Europe, the world is so beautiful and believable that at times it feels like an Oscar-level effort was put fourth. The film breaks up the drama with expertly delivered comedy that manages to somehow come off as non-campy. The characters were incredibly believable and felt so human and relateable. The character arc of Diana was so incredible, worthy of the great myths the story references and borrows from. Chris Pine delivers easily his best performance to date. Coming out of the theater I felt pumped up and excited, a feeling that I was starting to think I would never get from a movie again. The movie gets a 10/10 from me, and I don't take that kind of rating lightly. This movie is a true masterwork, and I feel like DC is going to have an insurmountable task to even come close to this level of greatness in the near future. Expand

Fixes the problem with color use that Man of Steel had wrong, gives a good 'cannon friendly' introduction to Diana, and builds the character as needed. Seeing Diana as a naive warrior from her sheltered life on the island to the WWI setting was a good transition. I really don't have the script or story board issues that I've had with MoS, BvS, or SSq.

Giving this a 10 (it's actually closer to an 8) to balance off the misogynists and bigots that are giving it 0s.....

I wasn't 100% sold on the intro, and the overall theme of women needing to try and be everything men can be in war etc. I feel that just compounds the problem.. BUT once I saw everything the movie had to offer I thought it was a great message, and the battle scenes were cool. It felt like a very realistic super hero movie of maintaining some of the realism of a world war 2 battle scene with a super human fighting. I feel like a lot of it is metaphorical in spirit, and in spirit a woman like her has those values and would look for those types of solutions. I felt Chris Pine did an excellent acting job as well as Gal Gadot. The story wasn't perfect in all microcosms, but it softened up those areas with humor and great acting; all together the big message was beautiful Expand

I give it a 10/10 (despite a few flaws imo) because it just really took me by surprise. I was wowed from start to finish. Right from the very beginning when you're introduced to her world, the paradise island of Themyscira, you can't stop soaking in the imagery, the beauty, the wonder, the power, the majesty, the lore. Seeing Diana as a sweet, eager child watching these warrior women train and fight, wanting to be like them from that young age...her curiosity and desire to fight.. and when her mother tells her the story of the gods and their own history, you're completely captivated along with her. Throughout the film you grow with this character, you see her develop, learn, face the realities of the world, struggle with herself and the way she thought things were... Steve Trevor played brilliantly by Chris Pine is such a perfect costar for Gal Gadot - he works perfectly with her, and honestly it's their chemistry, relationship, charisma and overall story that makes this whole movie work so well. I just wanna see it again...and now I'm incredibly excited to see more of Wonder Woman and this DC film universe. Oh, and make sure to give Patty Jenkins the reigns of the DCEU - she is a godsend! As a total fan of Lynda Carter, I was a little worried that no one could ever be right in the part, but Gal Godot is perfect. With this, you get a bit more of the flavor of the comics, but there's a strong nod to the 70s series as well. I'd say this is the best of the new DC films, with a compelling Diana who is every bit the princess of Paradise Island and the demigoddess who fights for justice and love. Excellent supporting cast as well, with no wasted moments, and a terrific villain who is portrayed extremely well. Chemistry between Godot and Pine is strong, and it was a nice touch to go back to WWI instead of WWII. I haven't enjoyed a movie this much in years, and can't wait for a follow-up. Expand

MASTERPIECE!! This is one of the VERY BEST superhero movies EVER. Another hit in a year full of GREAT movies. I RECCOMEND THIS MOVIE TO EVERYONE!! It's that good. And yes, children can acutaly see it, as opposed to the last 2 DC movies.

At first I had my doubts, because of the mild dissapointment of Batman v Superman (I didn't completely hate it, but didn't care much about it) and the ultra big dissapointment of Suicide Squad, but after seeing the good reviews I decided to go watch it. AND NOW I WANT TO WATCH IT AGAIN. The movie leaves you with a very good feeling, it's fresh, fun, has a good message (I think the whole world needs to receive this message right now), and Gal Gadot... congratulations o the PERFECT performance you gave. And Patty Jenkins, congratulations for your great directing.

Oh, and the action sequences are amazing too :D funny how the action was really great and it wasn't even the best part.

All in all, a big win for everyone involved: the makers, DC, and we as the audience... even Marvel, who now has some REAL competition, so they must raise their already high standards even higher (can't wait to see that! :D). This movie really left me feeling very happy and those are the kind of movies that I love :).

Just have to add my two cents -- Wonder Woman is a beautiful film, and so much more than just a 'superhero' movie.

The cinematography was fantastic, the script/storyline a classic tale set in an interesting time period, and the actors brought to life these characters in a believable and moving way (a film made by less capable directorial hands and cast would not have been so concretely realized).

I won't pick at the storyline or offer spoilers -- I really think everyone and anyone who wants to see what will undoubtedly become a cinema classic in the adventure/action genre should see this! This was an impressive film, and emotionally touching in addition to thrilling to watch!

If you are a fan of the comics - definitely see the movie!

If you are not a comics fan - I still say you should see the movie.

And for those bringing their children - I know that I would have loved to see this movie as a child (I'd say 10 years old might be a good age). This might be too forceful for younger children - unless you (the parent) are there to comfort them.

Let me add that Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman = AMAZING! She brings heart and beauty to the role. Gal is beautiful and I am very satisfied with her believability and portrayal of Diana, Princess of Amazons...and dare I say, Demi-Goddess of Peace, the Warrior-Heart-Spirit, and Integrity (Sometimes you have to kick ass to bring about Peace!).

To any of the negative nancies out there complaining about Gal Gadot's body or height -- I'd like to see how YOU look in Wonder Woman's costume! Yeah, that's what I thought.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was an incredible movie. It's a 10/10 for sure. I wanted a more muscular and stronger looking actress (like Gina Carano or Rhona Mitra) to play Wonder Woman, not a stick figure like Gadot, however she did an incredible job of acting that I forgot how weak and scrawny she looks in real life. The story line was decent and the action sequences were top notch. The emotional elements that make you tear up felt genuine, which makes or break a movie in my opinion. I am not a fan of Chris Pine but he did well here. I got a vibe of the Howling Commandos when they were all travelling together before the watch tower scene. The scene where Wonder Woman clears a trench of German soldiers was incredibly satisfying to watch. I know the word epic get thrown around willy nilly now-a-days, but this scene truly was epic. Unlike most people I loved Superman v. Batman, but this movie was leagues better in comparison. If you haven't seen this film yet, what is wrong with you? My favorite part was seeing Themyscira on the big screen. As a huge fan of Greek Mythology and shows like Xena; this movie was an incredible experience. Expand

Action packed, hitting some emotional tones and visually very impressive, the team on this movie did a superb job.

My wife and I went to watch it and it is hands down our favorite movie of the year and easily our favorite super hero movie ever. This coming from two sworn Marvel fans. Watch it already!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Much better than S vs B. What impressed me the most was that Gal Gadot did most of her own stunts instead of using a stunt double. She really had on-screen charisma, and was a humorous, yet headstrong and heroic character. Loved the soundtrack too, and the jokes cracked throughout the movie which really lightened the mood of the movie.

Also contained a very unexpected plot twist, totally did not expect that (I never read the cast list prior to watching so I had no idea who was playing Ares)

"Wonder Woman" is a superhero movie, and it fulfills the heroic and mythic demands of that genre, but it's also an entry in the genre of wisdom literature that shares hard-won insights and long-pondered paradoxes of the past with a sincere intimacy.

One of the best movies of this year. A really engaging movie that will set viewers in their own world. But some people are not into super hero movies but that does not matter in this movie it's really for any viewers.

There is humor, drama, action and romance in the right measure, and Gal Gadot knew how to give life to one of the most famous and beloved heroines of all time with surprising naturalness. Expand
