This could be seen as a smug, empty exercise in satirical excoriation – and as a smug, empty exercise in satirical excoriation, it’d be one of the best – but there is a genuine heart to the film, as well as intellect. Cheadle, Gerwig and Driver are all superb, while Sam Nivola and Raffey Cassidy give their smart-mouth, role reversal kids an impossible likeability. Read full review

Much as he might adore the man’s work, DeLillo’s mannered, precise writing occasionally clashes with the cheeky punch of Baumbach’s typical approach. When he leans into the artifice (see: the scenes around the Gladney dinner table, overlapping dialogue as the family circles around each other in a ritualistic dance), the film fizzes even through the chaos. Extremely good movie. Don't let bad reviews fool you in this case. It's basically people love the novel so much, no movie could be good enough or people who don't understand this type of movie at all.

I really don’t like when characters pay no attention to what other characters have said on screen. Normally I would absolutely hate a movie where the dialogue is near constantly and simultaneously coming out of every actors mouth that is on currently on screen making a cacophony of “whiteI really don’t like when characters pay no attention to what other characters have said on screen. Normally I would absolutely hate a movie where the dialogue is near constantly and simultaneously coming out of every actors mouth that is on currently on screen making a cacophony of “white noise.” Worse, I generally despise when so much of the dialogue is being delivered with such dramatic weight as if it was being etched in stone. For some reason none of that dissuade me for both watching and enjoying this. This is definitely a film where you can tell how much the actors enjoy the work and excel at what they are giving in their performances to a point that I got swept up and brought along. There are some genuinely creepy moments and some masterful effects. It’s so well filmed and the staging/sets are amazing. The music is also just fantastic. I’m trying to think of something that this reminds me of, but it’s too grounded for it to be anything I’d like to compare it too. There isn’t a lot of humor really and normally that would put me off as well. The only thing is I felt like it over stays it’s welcome because of that. I’d recommend this if you’re in the mood for a mildly abstract drama with a good narrative.… Expand

At first glance it is like a satirical analysis of the consumer society in the 70s, but the mix of ideas becomes confusing and the viewer loses the idea of what they are watching, and if the movie is funny or not. The lesser of the bad is that the final credits sequence is somewhat worth the effort.

Writer/director Noah Baumbach has a mixed record of success. Marriage Story (my review) was powerful, while I didn't care for Mistress America (my review) or Frances Ha (my review). This time he's combining some of the issues from his previous work to create this rather unusual meditation onWriter/director Noah Baumbach has a mixed record of success. This time he's combining some of the issues from his previous work to create this rather unusual meditation on life, love and happiness. Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig play parents in a blended family. First, it's about their issues, then an evacuation notice causes a panic and finally they're back to navel gazing. There are undoubtedly humorous moments and some interesting sequences, but there are also extended periods of introspective dialogue that's more for the writer than for us. Driver (who's grown a gut for the role) is compelling as always, but it's hard to predict this film's appeal since it's an unusual mix. I appreciated it more than liked it. The credits are the most fun because Baumbach created a music video in the grocery store.… Expand

THE GOOD: The craziness and dark humour of White Noise does somehow work during its first half. Sharp dialogues and interesting camera work. The dope end credits almost made me rise my rating in 1 point.

There are VERY few movies that actually make me physically ill. In fact, two of them are Adam Driver movies. This one gave me a really nauseous feeling. Its so very bad. Yikes.
