This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Much better then the original for sure. Not only was it more action packed and more funny, it also blended so well. We all knew that Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn would be amazing, the rest of the cast was fantastic also. I like how it threw everyone off in the beginning with what happened. I also loved how the main focus wasn't Harley but, in the moments she did have, they were some of the best scenes in the movie. The cast overall was fantastic. Expand

This is probably the most "gunnish" James Gunn film.
Inspirations from 70s war adventure flicks and body horror Troma movies.
The thing is - Gunn not only uses all of it to create great entertaining film, because you see Gunn is kind of artist.
He puts a lot of love, depth and sensitivity into his characters,
script here is like perfect.
Action and actor directing is on very high level too, problem begins with the pacing.
Structurally this movie is not referring into acts and it's coming with idea of something like chapters, which work perfect in final result, but creates problems with pacing.
Instead of this film is really, really close to perfection.
Greatest blockbuster of 2021?
For now, surely yeah.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was way better than the first, if you wanna treat it as a sequel. Mainly because the joker they used for the last movie ruined the whole thing. Peace and love but if you disagree you’re dumb, again that was said with peace and love. But if you wanna treat it as it’s own thing, I’d say that I thought it was okay. The whole story itself was hella boring, honestly they could’ve done better with the story. The characters were all okay, they weren’t anything special and honestly they killed off the interesting ones within the first 10 min. I think the movie would’ve done better with a star. Not that none of them aren’t stars but they aren’t that big, if that makes sense. They weren’t will smith, honestly I’m not a fan of his but he’s well known and would’ve probably made the movie pop more but that’s my opinion. Also if you’re debating whether or not you want you’re kids to see this, it’s rated R for a reason. I don’t recommend it for kids, even if they are fans of these characters. But if you want to traumatize your kids a little I mean I guess go for it lol. Anyways if you don’t watch the movie you aren’t missing anything and if you do you’ll feel kinda robbed so I guess do what you want with that information Expand

This Suicide Squad movie actually felt like a movie and not something Frankensteined together by a studio.

The movie is darkly humorous, but still serious enough for you to care about the plot and the characters. Even villains unknown to those that might not be familiar who don't read comics, such as myself, were brought alive in an interesting way. Especially Polka Dot Man and Ratcatcher 2 stood out, but all the characters and actors did a great job.

Would definitely like another Suicide Squad movie in this vein if James Gunn is behind it, doesn't even have to be this squad. Can just be another squad of anti-heroes and villain protagonist as long as it's half this interesting.

Cena and Elba's dynamic was amazing for alot of the movie and they really did a great job playing off each others character dynamics. Harley Quinn had her own stand-alone role here, with nary a mention of the Joker whatsoever. It really did a great job bringing her character into a more self-sufficient role, as opposed to her relying on the ever looming threat of the Joker to give her a role in the story. There's some meta humor here and there and everyone's role really did a great job, all the way until the end. The main bad guy is a massive in-joke to one of the earliest villains for the Justice League, but it really didnt mesh well with the overall story. Stuff kinda went off the rails in a bad way, towards the end. There wasn't as much cohesion with the script and the characters actions went against their already built up motivations built up through the movie. On its own, the ending could have worked pretty well but just didnt work for me. I'd still highly recommend anyone who is interested go watch this on HBO Max at the very least. Really makes me hopeful for another movie in the series and I definitely couldn't say that after the first one. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is no way to say this without a bit of a spoiler-but with the huge incredible cast that this movie was advertised to have I was really excited. Then for a fun joke they killed off my favorites and the most interesting characters in the first 15 minutes. Then the movie follows the least interesting characters and actors around for another 2 and a half hours. The only bright spot is Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, who is always entertaining. She's the reason this movie gets any points at all in my score. It also didn't really seem as funny as any of the other James Gunn movies. Very difficult to believe that this was made by the same person as Guardian's of the Galaxy. Maybe I was just super put off by the beginning. I can't believe I would recommend the previous Suicide Squad movie over this one for any reason, but I find myself doing just that. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. E-Value: 9
Acting: 9
Plot: 9

Despite the critical failure of the 2016’s Suicide Squad, the tenth instalment in DC Extended Universe featured the return of Suicide Squad consisting of new team members along with few returning characters from the first movie as a standalone sequel under the helm of well-known director, James Gunn, who have previously directed two Guardians of the Galaxy movies before his firing from Marvel Studios and eventual reinstatement. The Suicide Squad is currently available in cinemas and HBO Max at the same.

After the events of Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey, Amanda Waller (Davis) assemble Task Force X aka Suicide Squad once again and this time, the squad is split into two teams which Team One is led by Colonel Rick Flag while Team Two is led by Robert DuBois/Bloodsport (Elba). Their mission is to destroy a Nazi-era laboratory called Jotunheim which holds a secret experimentation called Project Starfish in Corto Maltese.

During the mission, Team One suffer heavy casualties which all team members are kill in action except Rick Flag and Harley Quinn (Robbie), which the latter get capture by Corto Maltese soldiers. Meanwhile, Team Two manage to sneak into the country undetected and later found Rick Flag, who was rescued by Sol Soria, leader of the freedom fighters to take down Corto Maltese government. Not wanting to leave Harley behind as captive, Team Two devise a plan to rescue her before they can continue their mission.

Comparing this movie to the first one, this movie is a huge improvement although for the benefit of the doubt, the theatrical cut of the first movie is not exactly what director, David Ayer, intended. For one, the editing of this movie is better and not messy like the first movie. Not only the editing is better, the pacing now flows better from the beginning to the end. James Gunn have done a great job in redeeming Suicide Squad with his directing style and his writing. It really fits his style of directing and the humours he utilised are even better and not forced like the first movie. Since the movie is R rated, James Gunn took a great advantage of the rating to make the movie even more gory and violent than 2020’s Birds of Prey.

The cast have done an amazing performance in this movie. Among the casts are Joel Kinnaman who played Rick Flag, have done better job in portraying the character in this movie. He has a good character developement unlike in the first movie where he is more of a generic soldier character. As usual, Margot Robbie is still great at portraying Harley Quinn just like in the first movie and Birds of Prey. Let’s not forget about John Cena. Not only he gave an amazing performance as Peacemaker, his acting skills is so much better now and he definitely improved a lot. David Dastmalchian who played Polka-Dot Man, have done a great job in the movie especially in providing comic relief moments in the movie and turn the character from being a joke to being a badass. King Shark is great as well in providing comic relief moments and his lines are pretty funny especially the lines is done by Slyvester Stallone and credits goes to him on the way he delivered it. Although her screentime is lesser in this movie, Viola Davis still manage to play her character well like how she have done in the first movie.

Although not really a big disappointment, I felt that many characters especially the ones in Team One got killed off way too early in the movie without any character development. Not even a little development at all. Still, I have to give James Gunn some credits for about not to get too attach to the characters. Thanks to Gunn’s direction, this movie really live up to its title and being worthy to the name of Suicide Squad. As I mentioned earlier, this movie is a standalone sequel which means you do not have to watch the first movie to understand this one as there are very little connection to the first one. Last but not least, stay back for post credits scene.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the best American film I've watched so far. The film is extremely graphic, but it's not ONLY graphic. It's got a hint of comedy, and some heart, especialy when it comes to characters like King Shark and Bloodsport. When it comes to having "Suicide" in the name, that isn't a joke. many Task Force X (or the Squad) members perish in either style, or a comedic way (like Peacemaker, Javelin, etc), which is a reason it's so good, I'd recomend this to;
A: Adult DC fans
B: Teens who can handle extremely graphic and violent content

Expand

You've got the extreme gore accounted for, the gut-busting hilarity absolutely in play and a **** soundtrack on board as well -- all very welcomed highlights in many a James Gunn project. However, the added tenderness and pathos this time around (namely in the second half), as well as the implementation of some of the most indelible imagery you'll get in a comic book movie this side of 2019's "Joker" are what untimely make this movie worth the look and then some. Also, this sticks the landing better than most comic book movies nowadays. Cannot tell you how many films -- Marvel, DC or otherwise -- end up limping to the finish line on a rather lackluster third act. This one's might just be the best part of the whole flick. A truly gratifying spectacle to behold from start to finish. Expand

Cheap attempts of giving a back story to the characters, which just highlights even more how little they had tried with the plot in the first place.
Lots of things happen with very little purpose. They just jammed everything that the audience might have wanted in there, without adding much to it. 'Cuz who cares, right?
Good job. Worst movie I have watched in a very long time. And with the cast you had, it must have been hard to achieve. Congrats.

David Ayer's Suicide Squad was Warner/DC's answer to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, and we all know what that was like.

It's ironic that due to the circumstances, James Gunn ended up directing this film. A sequel/reboot of something that tried to copy his work.

But is The Suicide Squad the wonder that was going to shake up the decaying DC movie universe?
To be honest, it wasn't for me, but the rest will depend on who you ask.

The Suicide Squad is Guardians of the Galaxy Rated R. Just that.
It may be more edgy or more ''provocative'' for some audiences to see blood and **** without moderation, but that in my opinion doesn't help the story at all, nor does it add personality to it.
And considering the weaknesses of the script, Gunn goes so far as to abuse of that resource.

Gunn plays the art of repetition, and adds some moments of comedy to try to lighten the atmosphere when he can't fill it with something more satisfying.
You can see that in Harley's scene with the President, and King Shark in the aquarium.

I don't deny this film is entertaining, although it has plenty of minutes to spare, but in overall delivers, even if it never gets out of the mold.

A lot of people would say that Gunn came to stir the pot, but ultimately, he never risks anything.

This film is AMAZING! Easily one of the best comic book films I've ever seen. Things that I liked:
You never know which characters are going to make it or die, so there is genuine tension and surprise throughout the movie.
The plot is fast paced and engaging. I was engaged immediately and stayed that way till the end. There are also quite a few plot twists which totally make sense, but nonetheless took me by surprise.
I found this film HILARIOUS. Like there were numerous times where I and the rest of the theatre were all rolling with laughter.
Things I didn't like:
Harley Quin started to grate on me somewhat at some points... she can be kinda annoying and is the only one of the team with plot armour... but eh, she wasn't too bad.
And that's it. All in all this film was an incredibly fun viewing experience. 10/10, would reccomend.

This latest installment in the "Suicide" franchise is truly annoying, exhausting and exasperating (not to mention shamelessly derivative) in virtually every regard. The overlong ragtag story line defies credibility and coherence, even for an action-adventure/sci-fi/fantasy vehicle where suspending belief generally gets a pass and is assumed to go with the territory. The uneven pacing and often-amateurish editing bog down the progression of the narrative, and the smorgasbord of gags and action sequences grows wholly tiresome quite quickly, despite a few that land successfully. And, with the exception of Margot Robbie's third turn in the role of the outrageous and inimitable Harley Quinn, there's not much to praise among the performances here, either, with heavy hitters like Idris Elba, Viola Davis, John Cena and Sylvester Stallone clearly taking part to cash in on what are assuredly hefty paychecks. Director James Gunn's latest feels like a production thrown together by a room full of stoned collaborators who have combined all of their ideas no matter how well they mesh and, sadly, with little attention paid to creating something cogent and cohesive. While many critics and viewers may have generously given this one a thumbs up simply for having been an improvement over the film's predecessor, that's not really saying much, especially when it comes to whatever discernable merits this second installment might have (not that such qualities are easy to spot to begin with). What's most troubling, though, is how this picture regrettably reflects the state of the American movie industry these days (thank God for foreign films and documentaries). Expand

If you are unfamiliar with Troma Team movies, they are extremely low quality, very crude, and riddled with excessive gore and/or childish poop/fart humor typically in the form of cheesy unfunny slapstick scenes or dialog.

This is the type of humor you would expect from Hollywood today, and the type of mindless filth you would expect the modern American to voraciously consume and mimic. This is clearly an adult movie, yet it seems to be intended for young teens based on marketing and the maturity level of the "humor". Yet another step toward complete infantile absurdism without any real substance, like a firehose of high pressure raw sewage being pumped into your mind. The official "taste makers" and "professional critics" have given this movie their blessing because it is "business as usual" (meaning it reinforces the ever lengthening state of arrested development) and is therefore safe. What's sad is people are actually swayed by their opinion still.

I am not surprised James Gunn was involved with this, the type of guy who thinks pedophilic rape is funny, and those that would continue to employ such a person would predictably create such wretched mental detritus and consider it entertainment. I have not seen the whole movie yet but so far at 40 minutes in, at least I haven't had any political agendas shoved down my throat. It's a sad state of affairs when people think lives should be destroyed over a difference of opinion, but making pedophilic rape jokes is no big deal because they were a few years old...

Scenes have good framing and the inventive title cards give the movie the feeling of chapters similar to how a comic book run would be laid out. Some people will not appreciate the gore and violence but damn if it doesn't look glorious. The action can feel very staged at times but didn't pull me out of the movie. People complain about the pacing but even in its slow moments it never feels dull. The main cast are some of the better fleshed out and unique characters to grace the DCEU, reminding me of James Gunn's past work with the Guardians series. King Shark steals the show, as well as a suprisingly great performance from John Cena. Somehow James Gunn made a huge cgi starfish into a simpathetic villain. (that last line holds so much weight) Overall a stylish romp that doesn't always hit with the humour but I'll be damned if it wasn't enjoyable. Expand

The team that survives heads to a fictional island to put an end to a secret alien experiment. Director James Gunn has brought the self-aware humorous touches and wacky characterizations that he did so well in the Guardians of the Gallaxy series. This lineup includes Margot Robbie (returning as a delightfully wicked Harley Quinn), Idris Elba, John Cena and Sylvester Stallone (as the mumbling voice of King Shark). There are genuinely amusing moments and lots of great action sequences, with the cartoon violence presented in original and cool ways. This is actually more fun the earlier movie…maybe it just needed “The” to make it work. NOTE: As usual, sit thru the credits for one final gag with a previously “dead” character. Expand

The Suicide Squad is exactly what happens when a studio lets a creative do their thing with little to no interference. James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is not going to be for everyone - and you should know that up front. It’s very niche and 100% Gunn, so if you’re a fan of his previous work and projects I think you’ll like it. If you’re not, good luck, cause it’s a lot.

The story is fun. It makes sense and what’s great is every single character (mostly) gets their chance to shine. Personally, I fell in love with Polka Dot Man, but every single character was absolutely brilliant.

It’s fun. And it’s also actually a good movie, unlike the disastrous, studio meddled 2016 film. If you’re a fan of DC, Gunn, and/or superheroes, this is most definitely up your alley, but if you’re not a “nerd” than I would approach this film with caution. 2nd best film of 2021 IMO so far.

Visually distastful, action scenes are boring. The redundance of "chapters" to help give some sort of structure ends up being quite ridiculous. The location of 'Corto Maltese' is badly depicted both visually and in writing. Behind the adolescent humor, the emotional scenes never work and all the character arks of "surviving" heroes are unoriginal. I genuinely do not understand the hype of this movie. Surprisingly I did not expect much from Ratcatcher 2 but i found her character really well done. For me the star of the movie was obviously Bloodsport and Peacemaker but the way Idris fit in so well between action and comedy showed how good of an actor he is especially with the scene involving him and Viola Davis.

Not too sure how some people are complaining about it not having a plot when their mission was explained maybe 3 or 4 times throughout the movie with chapter titles.

Id give this movie a 7.5 had some solid action some fun jokes may not work for everybody but it definitely did for me.

Some only seemed to exists for no other reason than to die as idiotically as possible. I suppose that’s what some people wanted to see, but I was bored. I’m not fifteen years old anymore. Blood spatter and body count doesn’t make a good movie for me. I wanted it to be funny but rather than humor, I got dumbed down dialogue and dick jokes. And there were actual good actors in this movie! Idris Elba, you’re character was Wil Smith’s without any good lines! Peter Capaldi, what was the point of your character? You were the dumbest character in this ridiculous excuse for a plot and you were supposed to be the smart guy!

As music progresses over the decades, these tonal changes appear more and more in modern music to give listeners a novel, unexpected experience. Suicide Squad is what happens when you do too many changes too quickly. With the exception of some weak writing here and there, there are some extremely satisfying scenes in this movie. The problem is that the movie identity is stretched and changed so suddenly from scene to scene that it creates what others have described as "Tonal Confusion." There is one scene late in the movie that is supposed to be heartfelt, but it's so out of place it completely missed it's mark for me. This movie is a mad scientist experiment of sewn together pieces that had some truly great moments, but it stumbled enough in it's transitions (with a few jokes that also fell flat) that I walked away somewhat disappointed. Which is a shame, because I really wanted to love this movie. But... there are a few scenes I keep looking back on and wishing they captured the spirit of the movie as a whole. I hope James Gunn sees enough of these kind of reviews to tweak future projects. Gunn displayed some really cool ideas/scenes that unfortunately, in the end, fell short of being the sum of it's parts. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. How come DC make such a bad movie, everything is so predictable, OH there is gore, what a shock! (Actually not cuz the whole movie industry is literally using gore) And then, Ooh! A character die from out of nowhere! Another one! And...another one...Wow...another character died...What a surprise...And why tf did they make Starro a naive traveler when he is literally the conqueror of NINE galaxys???????? Everything in this movie is not only predictable, but forced and overused. Like, ok DC, we got it, you're dark and you use overused gore in order to make people think your movies are "mature" (when they are really just for teenagers who think they are edgy and psychopath, when in reality, they are lame) You all need to understand; Blood, gore and cursing isnt mature, its actually childish to think you're mature just because you can take this ****
Another problem; We get told that bloodsport sent Sups to the Hospital...ok...where is that in the timeline? was it after the league? before the league? Why are they just making spin off instead of making connected movies?
I'd give a 1 bcuz of the rat girl and king shark, but nah...just remember, kids and angry edgy teenagers; Gore doesnt make you mature nor an adult.
And its so confusing, too long, too much, like, PLEASE, how long you're going to drag the movie? Just so rats can kill Starro?Like wtf

There was so much hype and the trailer was so well made that I was expecting this to be something good from DC for a change but unfortunately I was mistaken. Pretty average movie which was full of unnecessary bs

Not a huge DC fan, but I thought this movie was alright. It isn't the best or most innovative super hero movie ever, but it's enjoyable nonetheless

an excellent movie, it is full of very crazy moments and crazy scenes.
James Gunn has a quirky way of giving his movies personality, I've just enjoyed every moment of this movie.

Despite having the script a bit exaggerated, the film goes straight to the point with no frills, totally unpredictable, a very misleading trailer, but in a good way. The Suicide Squad is definitely better than the first one.

Well everyone the Suicide Squad are back for more suicidal missions and if you thought the first one was mental you ain’t seen nothing yet. Alright, don’t shoot me but I hated The Suicide Squad, it’s bad, very bad, and not even Margot RobbieWell everyone the Suicide Squad are back for more suicidal missions and if you thought the first one was mental you ain’t seen nothing yet. Alright, don’t shoot me but I hated The Suicide Squad, it’s bad, very bad, and not even Margot Robbie is enough to save this mess. Supervillains Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena) etc. are led by Colonel Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) to take on a top secret mission on the remote island of Corto Maltese. There’s a whole bunch of new characters whose names you probably shouldn’t try to remember because you just know a lot of them are going to die in some horribly gruesome death, so no spoilers but don’t get attached to anyone.

This is not a sequel but it’s not quite a remake either, there was no way to continue on from the first Suicide Squad so they’ve essentially started again. One of the main issues I had with Suicide Squad was the unnecessary supernatural elements that I couldn’t buy into, witches, Killer Croc etc. I felt this kind of movie would have been better more grounded in reality and I hoped The Suicide Squad would rectify that. Well after the trailer it was obvious that wasn’t happening and they’ve gone even more in the ludicrous direction. I can buy into it for Guardians of the Galaxy but this…seeing King Shark (Sylvester Stallone) chomping his way through this movie like he got lost and wandered off the set of Aquaman just feels so wrong. Sure the CGI and the effects are impressive to look at but that’s not enough. The plot is absolutely bonkers and I don’t mean that as a compliment. Sorry guys, I did not enjoy this. Every single scene is so jam packed with failed jokes it’s tiresome. I’ve never seen a movie try so hard to be funny, almost every line is trying to make you laugh and so many of the jokes just fell flat. It can’t just be me, the cinema I was in wasn’t laughing either. Aside from a few **** it was generally quiet. I can tell you sitting there for 2 hours with so many jokes being thrown at you in a desperate attempt to cause the cinema to erupt into fits of laughter was embarrassing. Yet in an unexpected turn of events the last 10 minutes of The Suicide Squad was the most watchable thing about it. But still, that’s 2 hours you gotta get through first and no matter what I ain’t getting those 2 hours back.

I went to see the first Suicide Squad mainly because of Harley Quinn, and I went to see this for the same reason and you know what Margot fans, you’re better off with Birds of Prey and skip The Suicide Squad. If there’s one positive I can pull from the wreck of this utter mess is that director James Gunn set out to make a movie and the finished product is the movie he wanted, creatively he got what he wanted to make and just because I didn’t like it doesn’t mean others won’t. In fact there is a substantial fanbase already and a slightly suspicious amount of positive critic reviews. But whatever, it is what it is. David Ayer however did not get the same courtesy. Studio interference practically butchered the movie he set out to make and we got an absolute disaster and I don’t believe anyone was actually happy with the first Suicide Squad. I really hope we’ve now gotten to a point where if a film studio hires a specific director for a movie they’ll trust their vision, let them get on with the damn movie and stop interfering. Gunn made the movie he wanted and there’s a lot of fans who enjoyed the hell out of it, I’m not one of them but that’s ok. I’ll get over it. I won’t hold this against James Gunn, despite this experience I’m looking forward to the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie but one thing’s for sure, I never want to see another Suicide Squad movie again, they can make as many as they like but I’m done. Not recommended.
